Install 10.4.11 using TDM from G5 to G3.. works, but doesn't take
I cannot use the Installer app, as I said above, will not even open - it just crashes. So, my plan was to put the G3 in TDM with my G5, and run the "combo" updater on my G5 and point it to my G3. That works perfect just as it should.
BUT, when you then cycle the power on the G3 at the end of the install and reboot it, the "combo" update has not taken. Everything seemed to work perfect when I did the install.. but the G3 just does not take it as when I reboot, I am in the same broken 10.4.11 I had from the "incremental" update.
I know this fix of using the "combo" updater will work, as I said did it on another system, but the question is why the G3 is not taking the update despite everything indicating it did? what gives? I would not have to do this if the Installer app worked, but it is hosed.

Sorry, you are jumping to the wrong conclusion... it WILL work if something is damaged in the parts of the OS that are replaced by the Combo Updater, but clearly WILL NOT if a part of the OS is damaged that was never Updated!
Appears to be time for An Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

my ipod says it is updated to most current 6.1.6, i use the rdio app and it worked but now with the update it needs 7.0 but i do not get option to update to this what do i do?

I admit, it's been awhile since I synchronized. Just did so, and all appeared right with the world, the handheld made the appropriate noises and showed the appropriate actions and same on the computer (XP, connect as always have through USB). In other words, they appeared to "talk" and said they were synchronizing. But my data (like important calendar entries) is simply not there. Nothing. Nada. Nothing recently added.
I tried repeating it several times. Yes, I have the system set up so that desktop overrides handheld. So what's up? Used this a lot in the past, never had this happen.

I have a Palm Z22 and Windows Vista--things were going great until a few days ago when I noticed that the palm weren't connecting. The Hotsync process proceeds normally, there are no problems noted in the hotsync log, and yet things do not travel from the computer to the palm and vice versa. I've tried pretty much everything: I know the palm is connected to the desktop, not Outlook; I have tried soft and hard resets; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software multiple times; I know the username is correct.
I suspect the problem has something to do with Vista; when I restored my computer to a previous time it started working fine but this morning it stopped again. The computer may be automatically updating in a way that is preventing the Palm Desktop software (verson 4.2) from working. Version 6.2 seems to work but I really hate it--there's no color schemes or categories. If someone could help me out with this I would really, really appreciate it.

Windows 7, firefox 1.6.16 just installed office 2010, sometimes cannot open a link in outlook and firefox is my default browser, and firefox will not initiate at all. Have to restart computer to get any response which then works but after a while it crashes again. Was this due to an update or office 2010 has a hidden setting somewhere? I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
have upgraded to a computer running Windows 8.1. I installed PSE9 and PrE9 using the original download files. There was no problem with this and the programmes work. However I cannot download the updates available. Each time I try the updater appears to download the files then says "there is an error please quit and try again". Does this mean I need to upgrade?
You should use a tool called MDT (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit) which is the recommended way to deploy microsoft os:es if you don't have System Center configuration manager.

Harddrive died and replaced it with a new WD 320. Used Snow Leopard to intall OS Disk Utility to Restore from TimeMachine. It appears to have 'pasted' the backup from TimeMachine on to the WD320. Tried to start OS and it says that WD320 is a backup and won't run from it. What do I do?
I re-reinstalled Snow Leopard and restarted. It is working fine!!!!

That's correct. iTunes will delete any apps you have not downloaded through your own iTunes account. If you did use your own iTunes account, choose iTunes > File > Transfer purchases... to move the apps into your own iTunes Library.

Re-download the apps through your own iTunes account (pay for them if necessary). Apps cannot be shared between different iTunes user accounts. -

Well. When I run the report for one date (this is a GL financial cube), this works perfectly. When I run the report for a different date, it all of a sudden doesn't work. When I view the data in excel through a pivot table, everything is fine.

I restarted my itouch using the home button and top button...it restarted but it only shows the apple logo and that is it. I deleted all files from ifile and then it froze... any ideas of how to make it work again?

I have tried re-inserting the com.apple.finder.plist into my Preferences folder and re-booting - this didn't work.
First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion. To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4. What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content. Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems. You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults. A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install. If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive. -
Reinstall from recovery mode downloads successfully but doesn't restart or install
I'm having tons of problems with my Macbook so I attempted to reinstall Mac OS X from recovery mode. I restarted my Macbook while holding down the option key. Then I selected the reinstall option. It downloads successfully, but then does nothing and goes back to the main recovery mode screen. I expected it to restart and reinstall, but it doesn't.
Am I totally screwed here?Try starting in Safe Mode and see if the problems still occur?
Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this is the case then there's no need to re-install and it won't matter because there's a problem(s) in your Home folder which won't be touched by the re-install. In any case, if it downloaded the installer may be be in your Applications folder as "Install Mac OS Mountain Lion"
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours. -
I can no longer use PubMed from Firefox. It works in Safari. How can I fix this?
This is a new problem as I have been able to use PubMed via Firefox in the past. I haven't noticed any trouble with other websites while in Firefox. I can search PubMed fine while in Safari but my EndNote doesn't interface with Safari for some reason and really want to be able to use PubMed through Firefox. Is this fixable? I have the most current Firefox too.
Could you be more specific regarding what issues you are having specifically? (i.e. What you are attempting to do, what's not working etc..)
You could also use safe-mode which especially since it sounds like a compatibility issue solves most issues or identifies the source
