Install 10g on a pc with DHCP enabled

Hi,
How to Install 10g on a pc with DHCP enabled ? I looked at Quick Installation Guide
10g Release 2 (10.2) for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit)
B14318-01
August 2005
But I found nothing.
Thanks.

"Oracle Content Database" is a different animal than the "Oracle Database"
There is a section Installing Oracle Database on DHCP Computers in the Oracle Database Installation Guide for Windows.

On a Windows 2003 server running Oracle 9i, I installed the Oracle 10g database. After the installation, I'm unable to connect to 10g database but can connect fine to the 9i instance. .
At the SQL prompt, while trying to log as system/manager@STR05CI I get the following errors:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
If I connect as sysdba to start the database, I encounter the following errors:

Also, how do I resolve the 'status UNKNOWN' for the STR05CI instance so that it becomes READY?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

You have an entry LOCAL_LISTENER in your spfile, that's not necessary (at least for single - non RAC - instances) as long as listener is running on port 1521. If you specify this parameter, you have to add address resolution to tnsnames.ora .
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Basically that means database is not started, it also happens when tnsnames.ora entry points to an non-existing SID.
'UNKNOWN' means there's a static entry for the instance in listener.ora, 'READY' is shown when there was a dynamic registration of the instance with the database. PMON background process does this automatically, when there's no entry in listener.ora and listener runs on port 1521.

  • Can I use Time Capsule to share a public ip within a network with DHCP enabled?

Hi I have a router with 8 public ip's which is doing DHCP for the public ip's I own. What I am trying to do is to give a static public IP to my Time Capsule and then the time capsule should create another network (both wired and wireless) with private IP (eg. 192.168.1.xxx) and do DHCP to the connected to time capsule devices.
I tried to select the option SHARE A PUBLIC IP but it is not working.
    Any help?
    Armandos

I am assuming that the static IP address that you are attempting to assign the WAN-side of the Time Capsule is one of the eight Public IP addresses available to you ... correct?
If so, then you should be able to configure the TC's WAN port for either: 1) Use the "Using DHCP" option to grab one of these Public IP addresses from the upstream router's DHCP server, or 2) Use the "Manually" option, and then, enter the appropriate IP addresses in their appropriate fields.
With the Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address selected, the TC's NAT & DHCP services will be enabled and they should be able to provide a Private LAN behind it.
Are either or neither the TC's WAN or LAN sides working properly?

  • How to install 10g database on windows with db block size 16k

    Hi,
Can somone help me install oracle 10g database on windows xp with db block size as 16k.
i need this database, because it is one of the recommendations for insalling OWB(Oracle Warehouse Builder).
    Thanks,
    Philip.

    1)     In Initialization parameter pile
    DB_BLOCK_SIZE=8192/16K - One way
    2) The other way once you install Oracle 10 G then at the time when you are creating database with Database Configuration Assistant – you can modify the block size by the[b] Initialization parameter screen.
    -     Sizing Tab
    Block Size 8K/16K
*** Remember by default Oracle 10 G uses 8K block size.
You use the options on the Sizing tab to configure the block size of your database
and the number of processes that can connect to this database. The Block Size setting corresponds to the smallest unit of storage within the Oracle database. All storage of database objects (tables, indexes, and so on) are governed by the block size. The block size defaults to 8KB, but you can modify it. Once the database is created, you cannot modify this setting.
The maximum and minimum size of an Oracle block depends on the operating system. Generally, 8KB is sufficient for most transaction-oriented applications, and larger block sizes such as 16KB and higher are used in data warehouse–type applications.
The Processes setting specifies the maximum number of simultaneous operating system processes that can be connected to this Oracle database. You must include at least six processes for each of the Oracle background processes. You can increase this number on the Initialization parameter screen.

Is this a problem of inadequate RAM or something more grave plz help me out.
    Sandeep

It seems you have a basic problem with your downloaded zip-file, it could be corrupted (CRC-Error (=Current Redundancy Check), checksum error).
But, you are right, 256MB RAM is also not enough for a 10g database, you will have problems, but later on.

  • OC4J with DHCP

Many thanksYes, OC4J works happily in a DHCP environment. Although, if it is being accessed as a server from clients, and the lease on the IP address expires and a new IP address is given, the clients will need to use the new IP address. How do you envisage clients locating the server? If it's by domain name, then you'd need to make sure you had a DNS server that could map DHCP IPs to names correctly. If it's by direct IP, then you'd need to notify the clients if the DHCP address of the server machine changes.
I don't see why using DHCP would not be supported with OC4J standalone and haven't seen anything to say that it's not.
It'd be worth putting in a call to Oracle support and ask them for their view on this.
On the 9iAS DHCP point, the last I heard was that we were looking at how to resolve it for the next release. I will need to check on the status of that and get back to you.

  • Launching xcode from nfs share (Ensure that Xcode.app is installed on a volume with ownership enabled)

    Hi!
We have mac mini (Yosemite) and NFS server under Ubnuntu 14.04.

    Thanks in advance!

It's cool answer but I need solution how to accomplish my task. Maybe I can use iSCSI device or NBD device ot maybe there we have some NFS mount options?

  • Install 10g with 8.1.7/8.1.6 Fails

I am trying to install 10g on Solaris 5.8 Sparc. The system has 8.1.6 and 8.1.7 on it. The install fails with a file not found exception. The file it is looking for is /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.6/inventory/ContentsXML/oraclehomeproperties.xml.
    Wasn't ContentsXML introduced in 9i?
Is there a way to install 10g without uninstalling 8.1.6 and 8.1.7?
Thanks in advance for any help and/or wisdom you can provide.

This seems to be an oracle inventory problem.
I'm no longer sure where the inventory identifier is on Solaris - on Linux it's held in the /etc/oraInst.loc file. If you can find that, you could blank it out and set up a brand new inventory location for 10g. (Watch out, though, as you need the correct inventory locations when you wan to do patches or DB s/w management for the 8i version. SO back it up before wiping it.)

  • Installed 10g on Windows 2003 computer with existing 9i

Hi, I have just installed 10g on a PC running Win2003 with an existing 9i. When I tried logging on to 10g, it's telling me TNS protocol adapter error. I configured a new 10g listener and setup the tnsnames as well. When I started the 10g listener, it's telling me LISTENER already started (the 9i one). I stopped the 9i listener and started the 10g one, and was able to log on to 10g.
Now, how would I be able to access 9i and 10g at the same time? Also, I noticed that the 9i listener shows as Windows service, but the 10g does not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

10g listener should be able to server 9i database as well.
If your 9i instance is not self register with 10g listener, run netca to configure your listener to include 9i instance.

  • Is there a way to install 10G on a Linux box with less than 1G of Ram?

    Hi All,
This maybe a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway.
I've got a Linux box with 256 Ram running CentOS. I can up it to 512, but playing with the 10G R2 Enterprise install, it complains about it not having 1G of ram needed for install. So is 1G the minium ram for Oracle 10G R2 or is there a way to install it on a box with less ram? This is not a production environment, I'm just learning and testing.
Also, what is the min ram requirements for the Express version?
    Thanks,

  • Oracle10g Installation problem on Linux with DHCP IP

This warning means it is not recommended to install Oracle 10g on a DHCP assigned IP address. It could work, but you won't be able to configure Enterprise Manager, since this tool requires a fixed IP address. If possible, have the IP address fixed.

  • Cisco 891 not getting IP address with DHCP with latest IOS

    Hi,
I have a few Cisco 891 routers that are configured as DHCP clients on the WAN interface.
For some reason when I boot the router with a late IOS, the router is not receiving an address.
It works just as expected with the older IOSes.
    Any ideas of what changed?
This is how the interface is configured:
    interface FastEthernet8
     ip address dhcp
     no ip redirects
     no ip unreachables
     no ip proxy-arp
     duplex auto
     speed auto
     no cdp enable
    This IOS does not work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.154-3.M2.bin
    While these do work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.150-1.M7.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.151-2.T2.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.152-1.T1.bin
Doing a "show ip interface brief" shows that FastEthernet8 is unassigned with the affected IOS.
With the older IOSes there is an IP address.
I had to downgrade two routers due to this issue, and did not have  plenty of time to troubleshoot.
Both of the routers are connected to DSL from the same ISP...
Anyone seen anything like this  before?

Add another one to the list.
I have a MacBookPro3,1 that connects to WIFI no problem. It used to connect to ethernet when I originally bought it, however I've been using WIFI exclusively for the past 2 years.
Recently I had a need to connect via ethernet and it wouldn't work at home (apple airport router). I next tried connecting via ethernet at a friends house using a linksys WRT54G, no dice either. I have the computer in the lab today (University Network) and I get the same error. 3 different locations, 3 different routers, all same problem. It used to connect to home and university networks ethernet right away.
    IP address assigned is 169.xxx.xxx.xxx - subnet - 255.255.0.0
no other info. It's showing up as connecting to the network, but unable to communicate with DHCP. It does work if I enter all of the information in manually.
At first I thought I had messed something up in networking preferences as I tend to play around with things alot. However I did a complete system format, and fresh install of OSX Lion and I still have the same problem, without any of my meddling around to confuse things.
    What gives?

  • 2008 r2 hyper-v guest with static IP always looses network connectivity after every restart - no problem with DHCP

    Hello,
We are running 2008 R2 domain with one physical DC and other running in VM on Hyper-V host (2008 R2 Standard). The host has 4 NICs and is configured to use one physical NIC for itself (management) and the hyper-v guest is configured to use another dedicated/physical
NIC (through microsoft virtual switch) just for itself.
I noticed that after setting the hyper-v guest with a static IP address all works fine only until guest restart. When the guest boots up the IP address is still configured correctly in IPv4 properties, but there is no network connectivity at all and in fact
the guest shows running APIPA config in ipconfig /all output. That situation continues until I remove the virtual NIC from hyper-v guest, remove the virtual switch from dedicated NIC on host and then reconfigure it (using same settings as they were). very
    annoying.
For time being I switched the virtual DC (problematic hyper-v guest) to a DHCP IP and configured DHCP server (running on physical DC machine, not on hyper-v host) to store a reservation for the hyper-v guest so it always gets the same "static"
    IP configuration.
Is there some kind of a problem/bug with using static IP on (2008 R2) hyper-v guests? is there a hotfix for static IP config in hyper-v guest environment?
both 2008 R2 OSes (host and guest) are up to date with all updates (synced with Microsoft, not WSUS).

OK, I'm not at the office now, but took my time to test out the restart scenarios on problematic virtual guest remotely.
No dice, same as it was, everything works fine after guest has IP configured in DHCP mode (IP reservation of 192.168.1.5 for specific MAC address) and it doesn't work after restart in static IP mode (same address, works before restart of guest).
I also took "arp -a" outputs at each step from host server and that was always saying there is only a single host (192.168.1.5 = VDC = problematic virtual guest) assigned to that IP address and always with same MAC, so that pretty much rules out
ARP/MAC troubles and no issues with switches/routers getting spoofed. Problem is most likely with the virtual guest (WS2008R2) or within the host running same OS.
    Here are outputs:
    A) VDC has IP configured in DHCP mode - always same, survives through restart (all works)

Throughout the testing, the hyper-v host IP configuration and IPconfig output was always staying same.
The Network Connection #2 is the only one the host uses (not shared with hyper-v guests).
The Network Connection #4 is assigned to Microsoft Virtual Switch hence why it doesn't show up in results, like below:

On Monday I will install more test guests in Hyper-V host (WS2008R2), in variety of flavors like 7x64, 8.1x64, ws2012r2, and see if they show similar problems with static IP configuration when utilizing a dedicated NIC from host server.
Don't get me wrong, I can live with virtual DC running on DHCP IP reservation (which is based on MAC), because the virtual DC pretty much requires a physical PDC (hosting also DHCP in my network) to be present for safety reasons ... however I prefer a static
