Install 10g on RH Linux AS

I am trying to install the 10g DB on Linux and I got the following:
Checking installer requirements...
Checking operating system version: must be redhat-2.1, UnitedLinux-1.0 or redhat-3
The Oracle Version :10g Release 1(10.1.0) for Linux x86
The Linux Version:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS(2.6.9-5 ELsmp)
The oracle installation software requirements mention that it should be
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES/AS 2.1 (x86)
or Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES/AS 3 (x86)
As I am not familiar with RH version I do not know is both are compatible?!

It is duplicate of following thread

Please also read the install documentation. This has been noted as a requirement for oracle-xe (you need one more lib ;) ) This also helps you setup your DB, etc, etc.

  • Is there a way to install 10G on a Linux box with less than 1G of Ram?

    Hi All,
This maybe a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway.
I've got a Linux box with 256 Ram running CentOS. I can up it to 512, but playing with the 10G R2 Enterprise install, it complains about it not having 1G of ram needed for install. So is 1G the minium ram for Oracle 10G R2 or is there a way to install it on a box with less ram? This is not a production environment, I'm just learning and testing.
Also, what is the min ram requirements for the Express version?
    Thanks,
    Mike

It looks like you will have to uninstall "libaio1", but I don't know for sure and don't have Ubuntu 10.4 available right now to play with.
Sorry but the instructions are for Ubuntu 10.10, not 10.4, which is different.
If you need to install XE on Ubuntu, I'd rather suggest 11gR2 XE:

My first node finished root.sh without any problem but not second node it give me "Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack." error. Moreover, I found "ERROR: clssnmconnect: failed, rc = 3, node samurai (1), (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=racs01-priv1)(PORT=49895))" error in ocssd2.log file. However, I can ping privet and public ip/hostname without any problem. Any input or suggestions are welcome!

    1. Can i install oracle 10g AS 32 bit on linux 64 bit ?
    Regards
    James

It should be possible to install at least the SSO and OID components of OAS 10.1 on a 64 bits Linux system as long as you take the 10.1.4 version. According to the [url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/idm-certification-101401-083012.html]certification information, it is certified as long as you patch it to 10.1.4.3 afterwards.
Note that is a quit typical setup for FMW11g products which require SSO. If you want to use the latest OID version (11.1.1.4) on x64, you will need a 64 bits OS. But you should still be able to install SSO on that box as well and wire it to your OID. Since 10.1.4 is still 32-bits, it should be supported with a 64-bits OS.
Note that you could install your 'infrastructure' on two boxes with OiD residing on the 64-bits box while SSO runs on a 32 bits environment. But I just think that it would be an overkill unless you have strict topology requirements or overanxious network administrators.
    Thanks,
    EJ

  • 10g on enterprise linux AS 3 - connection refused when attempting to ...

I recently installed 10g on RedHat Linux Enterprise AS 3. The installation appeared to go seamlessly and immediately afterwards I was able to access SQL PLUs via
http://localhost.localdomain:5560/isqlplus and login as system and perform queries. Shortly thereafter, this stopped working. When attempting to relaunch the browser and direct to this address, I receive the error: The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost.localdomain:5560. The same error is received for other urls , e.g. ..ulrasearch, em etc.
I checked some of the prior postings that discuss checking configuration files for Apache, etc. I don't seem to have an Apache directory created anywhere although it is referenced in some of the log files.
Rebooting the machine makes no difference.
I am new to 10g and running Oracle on linux so any help is appreciated.

    Alison is right,
For the another processes you need to type :
    ULTRASEARCH
    $$ORACLE_HOME/bin/searchctl start [stop]
    ENTERPRISE MANAGER DATABSE CONTROL
    $$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start dbconsole [stop]
    ORACLE MANAGEMENT AGENT
    $$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start agent [stop]

SAJEEV GEORGEYou need to have the following packages installed already before starting Oracle installation

    binutils-2.15.92.0.2-10.EL4

And from the following link, you can get the same list:

  • Can you install Oracle 10g on REDHAT LINUX ENTERPRISE WS?

According to oracle documentation, it says you can install oracle10g on Redhat enterprise version 3 or 4, but it doesn't specify whether its Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS or WS. Can you install oracle 10g on Rehat Linux Enterprise WS?

Oracle Certificaction Matrices says only RedHat AS/ES is supported for database. AFAIK WS means workstation.
Also this link is very clear: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_61_1135.shtm
Besides the above sentences... If the WS installation is providing all required packages (listed in installtion prerequisites) I belive that Oracle DB could be installed on WS but as I (and the above link) said it is not officialy supported.

Actually when I clicks on yes to start database.
The web browser you are using is not optimized for this release of Oracle enterprise manager. It is recommended that you use one of the following:
    * Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, 6.0 or higher
    * Netscape Navigator version 7 and higher
    *Mozilla version 1.3.1 and higher
Dose any one know hoe to upgrade mozilla or install internet explorer 5.5, 6.0 or higher or SLES 8.
    Regards,

You can download package for your distribution (for example) from http://www.mozilla.org or directly from SuSE ftp server ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586
IE for linux does not exist.

  • Where can I get Red Hat Linux AS for Installing 10G

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 10G on RedHat Linux 8.0 and the installer is existing with error message(Requires Redhat 2.1 or 3). Is RedHat 2.1 is free downloadable and could some one point the URL where I can download.

I guess business economics and supportability has made Oracle to release products only on (a few) "enterprise class" distributions of linux. RHEL 2.1 & 3 has a subscription fee for support (one of Oracles requirements?), so it's not free downloadable (RHEL 3 is downloadable within RHN but not free).
Maybe they should look to their Unbreakable Linux campaign and release developer versions of the operating systems. With both products and os released under developer licenses, maybe they'll get support from individuals and smaller companies...
