Install 10gr2 ASM on single node, need clusterware installe first?

Install 10gr2 ASM on single node, Do I need install clusterware first?
When I install clusterware on single node, it shows " the specified nodes are not clusterable"
Thanks.

ASM and clusterware are two separate things. Clusterware is required only if you are setting up a RAC environment, is this your case? If you are just planning to use ASM then proceed with the RDBMS (database disk) install and use the DBCA to perform ASM configuration. It is assumed you have the raw devices ready to setup the ASM instance. Once the ASM instance is ready you can create the database to use the ASM disks.

  • Clone multi-node RAC and ASM to single node

    Hi everyone.
I need clone system with 3 application server and 2 oracle database RAC and ASM to single-node. The operating system is RHEL 5.
I see some metalink notes, but we can't found nothing. I find notes with multi-node to single-node, but nothing with RAC to non-RAC.
The eBS version is 11.5.10.2 and database version is 10.2.0.3
    Is possible this clone?
    Thanks very much.

  • Install RAC OBS on single node using VMWare

Re: How to install Muti_node R12 using VMWARE
    Mine is a little different.
I have the Test server which has OEL5 and one OAS 10g(Oracle application Server) with 10g database.
I want to install RAC OBS on this server by installing VMWare for the single node. I do not want to wipe out the OAS, reinstore OSL5 and start from a blank machine.
Can I keep what I have on the server and install RAC OBS by installing VMWare, configuring the virtual sharing disks, and install RAC OBS using ASM?

    Hi,
Can I keep what I have on the server and install RAC OBS by installing VMWare, configuring the virtual sharing disks, and install RAC OBS using ASM?Yes, you can. Just make sure you have sufficient resources on this machine.

Oracle 10gR2 RAC Installation in RedHat 5 Linux Using VMware.
Important points to install 10gR2 oracle RAC in linux5.
1.LINUX 5(Redhat 5) doesn't have /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file. so we have to configure it.
    2. Edit the /etc/redhat-release version to redhat-4 and and to invoke the runInstaller use the command
$runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs. //this will bypass the os check //
    3. Next during clusterware installation at the end of root.sh in node 2 end with error message. So we have adjust the parameters in vipca and srvctl files.
    4. vipca will fail to run. so we have to adjust some parameters and configure it manually.
refer the link, it will be useful to you to complete your installation.

    Good morning,
I'm trying to restore a rac/asm database to a non-rac environment to simulate disaster recovery under worst-case circumstances.

    1) Restored pfile

I noticed that it's trying to create the datafile. Shouldn't it be giving me a "Restoring datafiles from backup piece" clause? Also it appears to be trying to recreate the datafiles in their old location. Any thoughts on how to get around this.
Using the db_file_name_convert does allow me to restore files to the filesystem, but they use names such as "omf_*" and I'm not sure if it's converting the files properly from ASM format.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I assume your problem is either in your pfile ( but you indicate you have removed all RAC settings), or in your control file.
I would recommend to remove the control files and create them later as soon as the datafiles have been restored, using the commands:
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "OMST01" NORESETLOGS FORCE LOGGING NOARCHIVELOG
-- SET STANDBY TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE
    MAXLOGFILES 100
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXDATAFILES 1024
    MAXINSTANCES 8
    MAXLOGHISTORY 10210
    LOGFILE
    < your logfiles >
    DATAFILE
    < your datafiles >
CHARACTER SET <your character set>;So the steps are
    Startup nomount with the pfile
    Restore the datafiles using rman
    Shutdown the database
Use above script to create the control files
It is possible you need to use the RESETLOGS option instead of the NORESETLOGS

  • Installing full LR3 after Trial Version; need to uninstall first?

I'm currently running LR3 Trial version on my Mac but I decided to buy the full version.  Do I need to uninstall the trial version before installing the full version?
    Thanks.

All you need to do is enter the serial number into the trial version.  In fact if you purchased a boxed set with a CD, do not bother to load LR3 from the CD as it will most likely not be the most current version (3.7)

So this must be a bug. During root.sh execution ora.asm is OFFLINE but after failing it is ONLINE. It maight be a question of waiting/repeating or timeout as I see the "Checking the status of ora.asm" command is repeated several times during root.sh, but not enough perhaps. Now root.sh is failed, installation halted but ASM is ONLINE.
    Any other Idea?
    Thanks again.

  • Oracle Single Node RAC - Oralce Clusterware Install

    Hi
I want to install Oracle Clusterware to perform Active / Passive failiver for a 2 node cluster
I plan to use Oracle Single Node RAC for this and have Oracle Clusterware control the active passive failover.
However - I do not want to use ASM in any of my set-up.
We have a NetApp filer and are using NFS / NetApp technologies to control backups (Oracle snap manager).
    Is this possible?
All the documents I have include reference to ASM
If I try and install Grid - I am also asked for ASM information.
I find ASM an un-necessary overhead given the storage we have and do want to use it,
    Can anyone help?

    Hi,
no you don't need ASM to have RAC One Node. OCR and Voting disk can be on NFS, simply use Shared Disk location during installation, and you won't get asked about ASM.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/storage.htm#CDECEBGH
    Especially http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/storage.htm#CDEDAHGB
What you should use in conjunction with NFS however is dNFS.

  • Convert 11.1.0.7 EBS 12.1.3 single node to RAC with ASM on 11.2.0.3 cluster

    Hi
I am trying to convert a single node 11.1.0.7 database with EBS 12.1.3 version from single to 2-node RAC ASM on Oracle clusterware 11.2.0.3 on AIX 6.1 - 64 bit
I am following Oracle metalink document note id 466649.1 . My 11.2.0.3 clusterware is already setup correctly and working fine as per document E24614-03.
However I am currently stuck in section 3.3:Configure TNS listener (Doc id : 466649.1) . The netca is unable to start the listener and failing with error as below.
However when I start the same locally from lsnrctl command listener starts.

  • How to migrate DB from single node 10gR2 to RAC 11gR2 on diff platform?

How to migrate DB from single node 10gR2 to RAC 11gR2 on different platform with possible minimum downtime? We have a situation of upgrade/migrate oracle 10gR2 single instance DB to 2-node RAC 11gR. The source OS is Solaris 10 on SPARC and the target OS is Linux (the target servers could be changed to Solaris 11 x86 if needed). What is the best solution on that?
    Thanks,

Technically, can do the following for upgrading and migration?
    1. Create 11gR2 oracle home on the same server and upgrade the database from 10gR2 to 11gR2 by running conversion (2 hour down time?)
    2. Set up Heterogeneous Primary and Physical Standbys by RMAN. The standby is the RAC with ASM. No need down time. (from Solaris Space to Linux - this may be a problem)
    3. At the cutoff time, activate the standby DB from the RAC ASM.
If feasible, do we have some detail guild line for each step?

  • Can ASM be used in single node 11g?

I tried to create DB in 11g using ASM, but I was asked to create oracle CSS services (which is for RAC). of course it failed. My platform is oracle linux 5. As I remember 10g can use ASM (in Solaris), any one has idea about 11g? how to use ASM (not RAC)? (I already used ASM in RAC 11g)
    Thank you in advance.

Although this is for Oracle 10gR2, here's a web page that might shed some light on your situation: Note that is says CSS is created automatically even if you don't use it.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B10130_02/deinstall.htm#BCFBEEAJ
6.2 Removing Oracle Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS)
The first time you install Oracle Database, Oracle Universal Installer configures and starts a single-node version of the Oracle Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS) service. The CSS service enables synchronization between an Automatic Storage Management (ASM) instance and the database instances that rely on it for database file storage. It is configured and started even if you do not choose Automatic Storage Management as a storage mechanism for database files.
If you do not choose Automatic Storage Management as a storage option, you can delete OracleCSService. To delete this service without deleting the Oracle home, perform the following:

  • Install 10gR2 on SLES9 w/ RAC/ASM

    Hello,
I am going to install 10gR2 on SLES9 w/ RAC/ASM. Is there any step-by-step guide for it? Does 10gR2 ASM still need the voting disk and OCR disk though 10gR1 needs them? What kind of best remote access client to the server can you recommend?
    Thanks in advance.

My question "Does 10gR2 ASM still need the voting disk and OCR disk " actually is that "Does 10gR2 Clusterware still need the voting disk and OCR disk?".
    Thanks.

  • 10g single node install

How best to slice disk drives? Single Node install on a Sun V480 (2 cpu's @ 900mhz, 2 disk drives @ 36gb each), solaris operating system. For my test server I will install all 10g components. How best to distribute the 10g load (oraInventory, appserver, infrastructure, Metadata Repository) between the two disk drives?

Part of the installation involves the installer installing CRS software on the other nodes, creating the ASM and RAC instances and so on.
All this is done in an automated fashion - requiring each node to be prepped accordingly, ssh keys generated, public keys distributed and added to authorised keys and so on.
None of these installation steps (all critical) will be part of a "single node" RAC install.
In fact, the prepping part is even more critical and complex than the actual installation - if done properly the installation will be smooth and painless. If not... you will run into all kinds of problems. And this is often the case as one has to deal with getting the shared devices to be seen by all nodes, ensure consistent device mappings across all nodes, ensure that multipath (load balancing) I/O works, etc.
For this at least 2 nodes are required. For actual proper RAC testing itself, even 2 nodes do not suffice and at least 3 are needed.
IMO you are pretty much wasting your time as no real practical RAC installation lessons will be learned mucking about with RAC and a single VM.
