Install 11.1.2.4 on a single server for testing

I am not sure if anyone has installed 11.1.2.4 on a single server. If so can you please assit me. We are trying to consolidate some servers and would like to use a single server for testing of 11.1.2.4. Can this be done? Has anyone done this sucessfully or have any documents on how to do it on a single server.
Any input would help

How to install multiple E-Business Suite in a single server?

I read somewhere that we can install multiple E-Business Suite in a single server as long as the storage is enough, is it true? If yes do any of you can give me the steps to install it or refer me to a link? I'd searched here but couldn't find it, hope that I didn't miss something. What I want to do is install Vision database and another one is fresh install for testing, both in a single server. There will be about 20 people accessing that system. What kind of hardware must I use? Thanks.

If you want to run 2 instances concurrently, It would be safe to assume you want 8 GB of RAM plus enough storage to host both instances, backups, archive logs, patches etc. For CPU, most entry level servers can be single, dual or quad socket, or CPU socket. Most CPUs are dual core, meaning there are 2 physical CPU cores in each socket. So if you get a 2 socket dual core server, you see 4 physical CPUs on the operating system. If you get a 4 socket dual core server, you see 8 physical CPUs. If you want to run R12 applications, you will definately need 4 GB of ram per instance (E-Business Suite installation). 11i might get by on 3 GB of ram per instance.

Sylonious, did you manage to sort this problem out? I have been experiencing similar problems. I think my problem was because I had many different versions of JDKs. I have done a complete re-install. I would be really grateful to you (and anyone else) for help with this problem.
I have re-installed JSDK1.4.2_03, set the "path" variable to "C:\JSDK1.4.2_03".
When I compile using "javac" I get an error saying "javac" is not recognised.
When I compile using "C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin\javac Freq.java" no error is thrown.
Every time I try to run a java file, I always get the NoClassDefFound error. When run with the -verbose option, files are loaded from C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin - is this correct?
I have removed all previous references to java in the registry editor.

Install Domain Controller, Active Directory, RemoteApps on Single Server?

Have a server that I want to experiment with RemoteApps. Documentation I have read state you need to have a Domain Controller setup with AD on one server, and have a second server to install all the RemoteApps requirements. Is this true or can
this all be done on one server.
If I need a separate server for the Domain Controller and Active Directory, can I assume that a low end server would be sufficient? Or would using Hyper-V with a single hardware server and create two virtual machines: one as the DC/AD, and the other
to run Remote Apps be a possible solution. Any advice?

it really depends to be honest. I'd probably go something like this though:
One Small physical server to act as a domain controller - you could put DHCP on this too
One or Two physical, quite powerful servers to act as Hyper-V hosts - these can be domain joined.
Then for your VM's create the following:
1 x additional domain controller
For remote desktop services:
1 x Remote Desktop Session Host
1 x Connection Broker
1 x Gateway and web server
For additional services
1 or 2 x Exchange
1 x sharepoint
1 x IIS
but it really depends what you want to achieve.
The benefit from Virtual machines is that you can keep separate virtual servers for separate applications.
If you have two hosts you could then replicate the virtual machines between them if you wanted some layer of fault tolerance.

Upgrading more than one project on a single server for OBI 11G

Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade more than one project's RPD and Webcat on a single server and then demo them one at a time i.e I upgrade the RPD and Webcat for Project A, do the demo and then I upgrade the RPD and webcat for the Project B on the same server and do the demo for the project B as well?
Any pointers would be of great help.

You will have lot of challenges by doing this I.e when you do
An upgrade the security information will be imported into the weblogic
Which will have conflict with other upgrades.
If there is no overlap in security then you can do this

Installing/Configuring multiple CMS instances in a single server machine

We are installing BO enterprise server and we have a requirement which is as follows..
1. We have been given 1 server machine ( actual physical hardware machine )
2. We have been given two database repository instances ( one for Dev , other for QA )
3. We have to configure the 2 environments in the same server.
This means, Having two different CMS instances and pointing them to 2 different database repositories in one hardware server machine.
Any pointers how this can be achieved ?
I found a link where its mentioned that it can be achieved through the concept of SIA

But how do we achieve it?

First of all - this is not a good idea. It's possible to do, but not a good practice.
The purpose of QA environment is to Test what has been developed. If QA and DEV are on the same machine - what's the point?
Then your hardware server has to be big enough to support this.
I might be better to have 2 VM instances...
As to how to go about doing that :
1. It has been discussed here before, so if you search you'll see some good threads on the subject.
2. You'll need to review Admin guide and Install and Deployment Planing guides for the version of BO software you're going to use. (http://help.sap.com)
3. While pure BO stuff is fairly easy - you just create 2 SIA each pointing to its own DB and use different port ranges for both - you'll need to think about how to go about maintaining 2 instances of the Application server (Tomcat, WAS, WL etc ) to host 2 sets of BOE web apps (Infoview/CMC/dswsbobje)).

Using a single website for testing while running older existing webpages

quick question guys
our company has an older existing webspace and website running
i'm currently re-doing the website and would like to test how it currently runs online but without disabling the existing older pages, how can this be done?
when i looked at the online space of the existing site via ftp program, it contains 4 folders:
cgi-bin
logs
private
public
public is where all the current website is housed. what are the other folders for? they are currently empty.
can i simply create a folder called test1 and upload all the files for the new site into this folder in the existing public folder and access it by simply using the "test1" folder in my webaddress?
eg. existing site:
www.website.com
test site:
www.website.com/test1
will this work? all my coding (js, css) has filepaths pointing to their respective folders from the root, ie "../css/website.css" etc. will all the root access to the new site work this way?

I eventually followed osgood's example and created a two letter folder (name "ts") and uploaded it to the public folder of our existing website with the relevant new files.
I was then able to access those files (well a single page right now) in browser by simply appending the folder name at the end of the existing webaddress:
acompany.net -existing page
acompany.net/ts/ - location of new webpage(s)
when i add more pages they should be referenced within this folder only,unless i have specific outside links to go to, correct?
i'm curious as to why there are so many various and warning messages about doing testing this way? is it really bad? will search engines remember these test pages and degrade the company's web prescence later?? i guess with larger corporate sites with hundreds of pages, more caution has to be used? I hope i'm not doing anything harmful to the existing webstanding of the online site.

You could then just redirect the root level index file to point to the test folder, just rename the folder to something more discret like the initials of the company name.

Of course if you have any absolute url coding in the site you will have to change that too so it points to the correct file. You'd have to do that anyway

How to Install XI and EP on Single server

How to install XI and EP on same server. I tried to install XI then EP . After EP installed then iam not able to access XI j2ee engine . I think some where port conflicts . I gave system number for XI : 00 and EP : 02

Hi Kristene,
I have installed XI and EP on the same server (for test purposes) without any problems, so it should be possible. I installed them in a different order (first EP then XI), but I don't think that matters much.
The only real difference is that I kept the system number the same.
What do you mean exactly with not being able to access the XI j2ee engine? How did you try to access it?

Multiple Instances of OEDQ on a single server

Hi,
I am running a Linux Machine (Linux 2.6.18-308.1.1.0.1.el5), on which I have the latest version of Oracle 11g release 2 installed.
I have an instance of oracle Enterprise Data Quality tool running on an apache-tomcat-7 server. Port 8080
Now I have a requirement of Installing another instance of OEDQ on the same server, but a different APACHE_HOME directory and a different Port Number (8081).
So the question is, Can we install multiple instances of OEDQ on a single server?
If so, what are the prerequisites to be maintained.
I did my bit of tries, but ended up having issues with some java errors.

Multiple instances of EDQ on a single server is technically possible provided the installer takes care to avoid port conflicts. It is not the case that there is a single port used by an EDQ server, for example.
For various reasons, it is not officially supported; attempting to diagnose issues on custom installations on Tomcat is especially difficult and we do not provide documentation on this. In general, the requirement usually comes up for Dev/Test instances (as there is no performance advantage of using multiple instances on a single server), where we would recommend the use of virtualization where this is a requirement.

HFM and Database single server installation

Hi Everyone
I am trying to install HFM, FDM, HFR and database on single server (64bit 2008 R2 OS), I started with installation of 64 bit database(v11g Release2) which I have installed in my D drive rest everything remains at default path. Installation completes successfully, also I am able to login into the database through SQLPLUS.
Then I start my installation for clients which I am installing in c drive, installation of 32 bit client is successful and when I try to login through that client I am not able to login(TNS Protocol error).
Moving ahead with the installation of 64bit client, I am not able to install since it throws me an architecture error "Actual Value 32bit and Expected Value 64bit" if I install 64 bit first and then the 32 bit everything goes fine but I am only able to connect through 64 bit client and not with 32 bit.
Now I have few questions here..
1) Can I install database, HFM, FDM, HFR on single server (11gR2 and v_11.1.2.1) if yes what is the correct way???? Installing database first and then clients and then 11.1.2.1??? or what????
2) Why does it throw me an architecture error while it recommended to install 32 bit first and then 64 bit??????
3) If I install 64bit client first and then 32 bit I am able to make connectivity to database only from 64 bit so in that case after installing the suite I should run HFM atleast but I am only able to run it once the moment I take a restart of server everything goes down with "Apache bridge error" and then the 404 forbidden error.
If any one can guide me with proper steps for database installation and clients that would be great!!!!!
I am installing foundation services first then HFM followed by FDM and HFR.

Oracle multiple homes on a single server

This is about maintaining multiple oracle homes within a single server for different oracle versions.
On a Solaris-9 server I need to have 2 11g versions where 11.1.0.6 serves one instance and 11.1.0.7 is expected to serve 2 upgraded database instances.
For multiple homes involving full installations it is simply a matter of installing software in a new home with a new home-name. But 11.1.0.7 is a patch installation that needs an existing 11.1.0.6.
What is the recommended approach in this case to host multiple oracle homes?
Oracle's documentation claims their cloning tools can be used (prepare.pl and clone.pl perl scripts).
It also has something on runInstaller -clone mention.
What I've achieved so far is:
(1) Install 11.1.0.6 via Solaris-packaging onto a clean server. This installed onto $ORACLE_BASE/product/11.1.0 using ORACLE_HOME_NAME=OraDb11g_home1
(2) Upgrade this to 11.1.0.7
(3) Detach this oracle-home from global inventory
(4) Rename the folder 11.1.0 to 11.1.0.7
(5) Re-attach as new oracle-home (name=OraDb11g_11_1_0_7) and relink at the same time using runInstaller -clone command
I am no DBA, so I'd like to know if the above approach is good enough or if there is any other recommended approach.

@Shrini - I am using Solaris packaging for installing oracle software. So unless I rename the target folder I cannot achieve different the same 11.1.0.6 in 2 different folders.
Even if I managed to tweak Solaris packaging and install the second oracle (11.1.0.6) into a second folder, wouldn't that be the same as renaming an oracle folder-name? In this case, we still would end up with the same issue of relinking and correcting the global inventory.

Multiple oracle database on single server

In our organization, we are going to install, SRM, BW and XI on a single server, each going to use its own database.
So, in that case, will the listener and listener port for all the three database will be the same, or we need to define it during the installation.
Please help me in this regard.

Hi Sailesh,
The best option is different binaries (Oracle & Sap), different Filesystems and different ports (Listener, msserver, gw, and so on) for every system you install. And, of course, different system numbers!

I'm planning to prepare a SharePoint 2013 development environment. The current idea is to install Domain controller, SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2013 all on a single server. Even though this is for development purposes,
would there be any limitations specially when it comes to SP 2013 functionalities according to your experience?

Just use separate base directories e.g.
c:\32bit\oracle and
c:\64bit\oracle
Install the 32-bit client first, then the 64-bit client. The order should not matter.
