Install 11 over 9.3.1?

Anyone install 11 over an already installed instance of 9.3.1? Windows environment. System 9 installed distributed across several servers. Essbase, Planning, Web Analysis, Financial Reporting. According to the documentation this is possible. However I was wondering if anyone had any real world feedback on this.
Thanks,

I have Quicktime 7.7.6 for Windows installed on my computer.
I purchased Quicktime 7 Pro and received a registration number
I entered the registration number according to instructions
Quicktime 7 Pro did not install over Quicktime 7.

Entering the registration merely unlocks the Pro features of QuickTime Player 7. It doesn't replace it with a different version.

  • HP Software finds the printer, but then "the printer was unable to be installed over the network"

I have tried to search for a similar issue, but haven't had any success yet.  I doubt I'm the first with this problem!
The computer is XP SP3, the printer is Deskjet 3050A, and it's a WPA-PSK WiFi.
The printer confirms that it is connected to the WiFi.
When I run the setup tool on the computer, at the Network Check point, the setup software finds the printer at the correct IP address.  It is the only thing it discovers.
I click next, ànd after a minute or two, I get the error "the printer was unable to be installed over the wireless network"  Click Retry to try installing the printer over the network again, or click Cancel to return to the connection options.
This just cycles with no progress.  I have turned off the Windows Firewall and also disabled the AV.  No change.
I can browse to the web interface of the printer - but still can't install the printer.  It is listed in the Printers and Faxes as being Offline.
I'll try once again removing it, and re-adding it - but has anyone come across this problem before, please?
    This question was solved.

I am having a similar problem as well.  The printer is recognized (most of the time) when I run the HP Network DIagnostic Utility.  However, when I run the Add a Device setup program to install my wireless printer, it is NEVER recognized.  I have even tried to use the advvanced serach to locate it using the IP listed in the Diagnostic Utility without any luck.  As an aside, I was able to add the printer through windows just fine and am currently able to print to it, but would really like to add it using the HP installation so that I can configure the "scan to" settings again.
To make matters worse, I no longer have the USB cord that came with the printer because the device has been connected wirelessly for over a year now with minimal issues.  Any help getting this brick back online and connected to my network would be much appreciated!

  • I HAVE FF 3.6.21 DOES FF4 INSTALL OVER IT AND IMPORT ALL SETTINGS, BOOKMARKS, ETC AND CAN I GO BACK TO 3.6.21 IF I DON'T LIKE 4

I HAVE FF 3.6.21 Is FF4 a completely new install or does it install over the existing installation. Does it import settings, bookmarks, stored passwords, etc or do I have to add all that. Lastly, if I don't like FF4 can I go back to FF3 easily

Firefox 4 is no longer available. If upgrading, the only version that you can/should go to is Firefox 6.0.1, the current version. Firefox 7.0 is scheduled to be released on 09-27-2011 ('''''scheduled date is subject to change'''''). After Firefox 4.0, each upgrade replaces the prior version and the prior version is "abandoned" as far as security and stability updates are concerned.
Installing Firefox 6 will preserve your prior bookmarks, passwords, etc. You can/should make a backup of your personal information for safekeeping; what if you have a hard drive failure?

To test the new version 6.0.1 and leave your current Firefox 3.6.21 intact, you can install Firefox Portable. Firefox Portable is not produced by Mozilla (but is based on Firefox released versions) and is not supported on this site -- has its own support forum (see below). Firefox Portable installs in a separate folder on your hard drive and keeps its profile (personal information) separate so that it does not interfere with your current Firefox installation settings or personal information (bookmarks, passwords, etc.). You can also install Firefox Portable on a USB/thumb/pin/jump drive.

  • Acrobat Pro XI when installed over Acrobat 9 Pro removes LiveCycle Designer.

Acrobat Pro XI when installed over Acrobat 9 Pro removes LiveCycle Designer.  Forms Central can't open LiveCycle Designer Forms so what do you do?
I have uninstalled XI and re-installed LiveCycle Designer only.  On re-installation, I chose not to uninstall version 9 and to do a customer set up (not installing forms central).
LiveCycle is now working along with Acrobat ProXI

LiveCycle Designer is no longer distributed as part of the Acrobat release. I think it is available as a separate product. At this point, Acrobat provides the AcroForm type tools (kind of hard to get to, just as in some previous versions) and the option for Forms Central. The whole focus has changed. I suspect that others may be in the same situation of trying to get their forms to interact in Acrobat or Forms Central, but at this point I do not think there is any way to back Designer forms into either of the two current formats. Not much help, but a comment in any case.

  • Installing over old version

I will be installing CS4 Design Premium over Photoshop CS3; Dreamweaver 8 and Flash Professional 8. Will the settings and preferences (and in the case of Photoshop, plug-ins and actions) of these existing applications be transferred to the new installation?

You're not installing OVER anything. The upgrades install exactly the
same way as the full retail versions. The older versions, with the
exception of Acrobat, which you'll be prompted to uninstall, are left
    untouched.
Nothing is brought over from the older versions.

  • Can apex 4.2 be installed over Oracle XE10g DB?

    Hi All,
I have to install Apex 4.2 over Oracle XE for reporting purposes. I got the APEX 4.2 downloadable from OTN. I followed the tutorial http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21673/otn_install.htm#BABHHIJB. Now when i ran +@apxrtins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/+ command and changed the admin password and tried to open the homepage of my DB and unlocked APEX_PUBLIC_USER account, it shown me that as blank. So i thought i need apex listener for this to open up. I installed apex Listener using java -jar apex.war command. Even now, i am getting a blank page over this, no error comes up over SQL PLUS for Apex Listener. I am not able to trouble shoot this .
So after doing all this a question came to my mind can apex be installed over ORACLE XE? I have read a forum where it says yes you can install but i did not find anything relevant more than that.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Avi,
I have to install Apex 4.2 over Oracle XE for reporting purposes. I got the APEX 4.2 downloadable from OTN. I followed the tutorial http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21673/otn_install.htm#BABHHIJB.
Why did you use the Installation Guide for APEX 4.1 when you are installing APEX 4.2?
Now when i ran @apxrtins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/ command So you just want a runtime installation?
tried to open the homepage of my DB Which would that be?
    Note two things:
    1. The "database homepage" that ships with your XE is a special APEX application. This application will be lost as soon as you upgrade or reinstall APEX, because it has been "tailored" into the scenario XE using the APEX version that shipped with XE.
    2. A runtime installation does not have the web based GUI (workspace login, application builder, etc.). It's really just the APEX runtime for deploying your applications (through a SQL interface like SQL*Plus or SQL Developer). If you want more, you need a development environment (full install).
A third aspect would be the question whether you've upgrade your APEX images to 4.2.
So after doing all this a question came to my mind can apex be installed over ORACLE XE?Yes, as documented in the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/install.42/e35123/pre_require.htm#BABFCFBC]Oracle Database Requirement section of the Installation Guide for 4.2, you can install APEX 4.2 on XE databases since 10.2 XE. I can assure you from personal experience that this actually works with and without APEX Listener.
Side note: You need APEX Listener if you want to use certain features like RESTful Webservices built into APEX 4.2.

  • Will Firefox 4 AUTOMATICALLY install over version 3.6.17

    23/May/2011 5:57
Will Firefox 4 AUTOMATICALLY install over version 3.6.17? Will **all of** the add-ons and plugins work? How steep is the learning curve?
    Sincerely,
    Barry Karas

Click Help | Check For Updates. The next menu will display a list of add-ons which won't work with the new version. The update is automatic apart from that.
If you find you don't like the layout of the new version, here are some tips to make it look like the version you're using now.<br><br>
    * Right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will subsequently reappear below the search bar.<br><br>
    * Repeat the same steps, but click the top one called "Menu bar". This will reinstate the text links at the top.<br><br>
    * To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.<br><br>
    * To replace the status bar at the foot of the page, install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/<br><br>
See screenshot. Both top and bottom views are FF4.

  • Packages to install over the base packages

I have a KDE MOD arch installation and I have installed lots of packages, my question is how can I find a list of packages which I can install over the base install so that I can get all the programs installed which I have now....
for example i want to install the base arch install and then do something like
pacman -Sy xorg firefox truecrypt etc etc..
Please advice, I have tried various pacman commands but iam unable to get what i need.
    Thanks,

For explicitly installed packages only, use:
    pacman -Qe | cut -d' ' -f1 >pkglist
You have to bare in mind that foreigners (packages not in core/extra/community) will give you problems though...
To filter such packages out you could do:
    pacman -Qm | cut -d' ' -f1 >foreigners
    grep -vf foreigners pkglist >toinstall
    Hope this helps!

  • 9.2.2 Update "cannot be installed over this localized copy..."

My Pismo G3 PowerBook came with OS 9.0.4 disks, which I have used to do a clean install. (The reason why is a long story.) Then I downloaded 9.1, 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 updates in the same session from apple.com. The 9.1 and 9.2.1 updates have been installed successfully. Now the 9.2.2 update produces an error message: "This software cannot be installed over this localized copy of Mac OS".
I plan to install OSX 10.2.8 as well as having Classic once I get past this barrier, but how do I get any further?
PowerBook   Mac OS 9.2.x   G3 Pismo

Yes, Don, I had a similar thought about US English vs International English after I posted the question, based on a recent similar problem arising while re-installing AppleWorks 6.2.8 on a friend's computer. Last night (in Australia) I made sure that I downloaded the International English version onto my G4 laptop. After one faulty CD burn, OS 9.2.2 is now installed on the Pismo. This may be the first time ever that I have actually had 9.2.2 on the Pismo in around 5 years of ownership: previously I had given up the issue as too hard. So I am very happy and thank you for your confirmation of the approach.
As for the ZI prefix: well I never! Not in at those 5 years of ownership have I worked out or read or heard what ZI stands for! Your advice opens up a whole new world of understanding!
Another well deserved 10 points to the OS9-meister!
    Ann
That message is returned when the language version of
the download updater does not match the language of
the installed version of OS 9. The download updater
must match in order for it to run.
Typically this happens when trying to use the North
American English version of the update on top of an
International English version of the OS, or vice
    versa.
If you're not sure which language version you have on
the machine now, open About This Computer (top of
Apple menu when Finder is active). Check the info
line labelled "Version:" - the language version is
indicated on that line. For example, if the info on
that line is something like "Mac OS (Z1) 9.2.1", the
    "(Z1)" portion indicates it is International English;
other languages have other codes (D = German, E =
Spanish, etc.). If there is no code, it is North
    American English.

  • 10.5 won't install over 10.5.7

I'm having some issues and want to reinstall the system software. But when I run my 10.5 installation it says cannot install over a newer version so I have to do a clean install of a whole new system. I don't want to have to do that if possible (and then have to transfer everything over). Are there any other options?

You will have to delete the entire hard disk and lose all your data - but of course you have a backup?
This document explains how to correctly reinstall a prior version of Mac OS X in the event that other troubleshooting does not resolve an issue:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25404
BUT: Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186?viewlocale=en_US
But better still, describe the issues you are having, rather than just reinstall everything - not really a Mac way of doing things!

  • Install new drivers uninstall or just install over the old ones

do i have to uninstall my old mobo drivers before installing the new one's? or just install over them??

Quote from: Supershanks on 29-December-05, 04:31:38
It's safer to just install the new ones over the old with mobo drivers. It's graphics drivers particularly if changing between ati/Nvidia that sometimes require removal b4 installing new ones.
    luck
Yeah, I just overwrite the mobo drivers with new ones as they usually only differ in small details.
For Vid Card drivers I like to use Driver Cleaner (Google for it - It's free & it will get rid of Mobo & Sound Card drivers too, if you wish) to root out all traces of a previous driver set before installing new ones. Unlike mobo drivers, different versions can vary greatly in content... if some of the old code is left over, it may not allow the new drivers to work properly.

  • Adobe reader DC keeps installing over 11

Use Reader 11 and lately every time I return to my computer, Reader DC is now the default reader. I did not want to change from 11 so I remove DC and reinstall 11. the next day I return to my computer and DC is back !!
I do not like DC, do not want to use DC, I want 11 to be my default. Is there a reason DC keeps installing over 11??? Can I stop this somehow? I do NOT want to use DC, I do not like its interface nor any of its "improved" features, I just want to stay with 11 and be left the h*ll alone by DC.
Can anyone shed some light on this??
I have to go now, have to again remove DC and reinstall 11

Thank you, it is all good except the third step. I do NOT want DC on my system, I only want version 11 and no further since my other software does not play well with DC including my Chrome browser. I did follow the steps you mentioned and still DC managed to install itself over 11 so I had no luck keeping it from returning. Even if you tell it not tu update it does whatever it wants anyway. My current solution, which is a bad option but I have no choice, is to install a different brand of viewer. I prefer to have Adobe Reader 11 but it only lasts for a day before DC comes in and takes over. I am not sure even the removal tool from Adobe can remove it. I have scanned my system for viruses with 3 different packages and found none. There is something about Dc still stuck there and it will not go away. I may have to go manually into my registry and delete every single Adobe key and sub-key there, that will take a while.

  • Wiped my entire macbook drive and now snow leopard won't install over snow leopard server, HELP!

I ordered, what I thought, was Snow Leopard a while ago because I was running Leopard and I wanted to get the app store so I could move onto Lion and then Mountain Lion. I ordered the disc over the phone and the woman sent me the Snow Leopard Server instead of just Snow Leopard, I didn't think much about it so I clean installed it and ran it on my unibody macbook for a while. I didn't see much use for the disc anymore seeing that everything was downloadable at this point, so I sold the disc on Ebay and carried on. The server edition started to slow my computer down due to all of its excess applications and what not, and I read online that Lion and Mountain Lion are also very slow on the old unibody Macbooks so I ordered a regular Snow Leopard disc, now available online, and tried to install it. My computer said Snow Leopard cannot be installed over Snow Leopard server so I went to disc utitlity and wiped my entire drive while the OS X Snow Leopard disc was running and trying to install. I went back to the install window and it still said OS X Snow leopard cannot be installed over Snow Leopard Server so I shut down my computer and tried to turn it back on and I all I got was a blinking folder with a question mark in it, what do I do????????
P.S. All of my content is backed up on an external harddrive so I am all good with that.

    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. After formatting has finished quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the Snow Leopard installation.

It is actually more simple than iTunes lets u believe.
If you just download an older version of iTunes, most likly the one u had before u updated ur computer, that should fix it and then you can update ur ipod and then get the newer version of iTunes.
Thats what i had to do when i got that exact same error just a few months ago.
If that dont work let me know.

  • Installing over Tiger

So, I've been told you can install Snow Leopard onto a desktop with Mac OS X 10.4.11 on it - is this true? I don't want to buy it just to find out I need to buy Leopard discs too.

As others say, yes, provided that your computer meets the [requirements of Snow Leopard (SL)|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html]. Many believe that buying the box set is not necessary unless your want iLife and iWork. In other words, many believe that all you need is the $29 Snow upgrade disk. This disk is a full install disk and does not require that Leopard be installed.
Here is some info on moving from Tiger to SL. [This thread describes a successful upgrade install from Tiger to Sno.|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2185421&tstart=125] I recommend that you use the upgrade method if your Tiger install is a very good one. Otherwise, I would do an erase and install. The backup process I would use in either case is described below.
I would not upgrade to SL unless I had an external drive with a bootable clone of my internal-drive boot volume on it. I think that there is enough risk upgrading to SL that such conservatism is warranted. I would not use time machine for an installation backup; I don't trust it enough. If you do not like SL, then you can restore your internal using the clone. In doing an upgrade install, the clone is your data backup and fail-safe device. You can clone with Disk Utility, SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you do an erase and install, then the clone also is your migration medium.
An upgrade install is performed by installing over your existing installation from the desktop or having started from your SL DVD. Doing so requires you to have a GUID partition. To proceed, start the installer, choose your language, start Disk Utility, make sure your partition is GUID, quit disk utility if it is and continue your installation. All your data, users settings, and apps will be present after your upgrade, except that incompatible programs will be archived in the Incompatible Software folder. It the partition is not GUID, then you will have to do an erase and install.
If you do an erase and install, then make sure your partition is GUID as described above. After you install, then you will be able to use set up assistant to migrate you data, apps, users, and settings to your new SL install. Also, if you have to make your partition GUID, then your drive will automatically be erased Mac extended (journaled). Finally, post back if you choose to do an erase and install. I have more info to provide.
You probably will want to install at least two of the optional install items on your Sno DVD, Rosetta and QT7. You can install either from the Optional Install Items folder on your on SL install DVD.
Leave your Ethernet cable, if any, in place when installing, but unplug all peripherals except those needed to install.
