  • Installing R12 32bit on Linux 64bit

    Hello,
I want to do some experimental installations and want to get some expert input if some one have already tried these.
    1. I want to install R12 32bit application on Oracle Linux 64bit. Is this possible?
    2. If above is possible then can I do a RAC installation of R12 32bit on same platform using Oracle clusterware 64bit?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    1. I want to install R12 32bit application on Oracle Linux 64bit. Is this possible? If your OS is 64-bit, you need to install the 64-bit version of the application. With 32-bit OS on x86-64 machine, you can install R12 32-bit.

  • Windows 7 64-bit and need to install both 32bit and 64bit Oracle 11g client

    Hello
First I am sorry for asking what is probably a common knowledge answer from most in the forum. I just cannot find a straight forward answer searching these forums or via google.
We have Windows 7 64-bit planned as our next desktop upgrade. We have several Oracle databases, and all of the client software in our environment is 32 bit.
I want to try and be ahead of the curve so I want to deploy the latest 64-bit 11g client instead of our current client (10g 32bit).
The simple question is this: Can we actually do that with our 32bit application suite or do I need to install the 32bit client for 32bit applications side-by-side with the 64bit 11g Oracle client for future 64-bit clients?
For a follow up to that, if I do, then does anyone have good instructions on that? I found one article on this but it seemed custom and made use of the mklink command, so I have my doubts this is correct.
    Thanks

Thanks for the tip. What I wonder though is should I do that or does the 64-bit client have a 32-bit layer that works with 32-bit applications or, am I forced to still deploy a 32-bit client because of my 32-bit software?
    Thanks

  • I have installed db-32bit, and installed obiee-64 in windows7 with 64bit.

    HI,
I have installed db-32bit, and installed obiee-64 in windows7 with 64bit. while creating repository through rcu, it is populates with an error and showing my installed db is not supporting, what is the scenario to replace db11g 32 bit with 64? and is it the right way to install, please let me know and also would like to know, if i want to uninstall db do i need to uninstall rcu and obiee as well?

    Hi Satya,
You can install OBIEE 11g 64 bit with Oracle DB 32bit. I have done this many times without any issue.
Have a look at the following links:

  • Installing MaxDB client on Win7 64bit and connect to 32bit server

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install a MaxDB client on my 64 bit Win7-System in order to use the BO universe designer. And basically it does't work because the db server is 32bit. I tried to:
    1. Install the 64bit client driver -> The connection assistant moans about wrong architectures between application driver and database
    2. Install the 32bit client driver and hope that Win7 does not complain -> The installer quits because of the wrong architecture. I'm aware of the 32bit database administrator in Win7 (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe) but as long as it is not possible to install the driver this solution is not applicable
    3. Use the virtual XP mode -> Installation of the 32bit driver is possible without any problems. Then, the only problem is to access the driver. Unlike the usual "start XP mode application" (accessible via the start menu), the drivers are only registered in the virtual machine. Consequently, I had to install the whole BO package in the virtual machine as well. This works fine, but running the universe designer on the Win7 system in a virtual XP machine just does't feel right
Any ideas to resolve this issue? Maybe "force" the MaxCB 32 bit client into installation?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frank

    > I'm trying to install a MaxDB client on my 64 bit Win7-System in order to use the BO universe designer. And basically it does't work because the db server is 32bit. I tried to:
    Sorry, but that's nonsense.
The byte-version of the client has nothing to do with the servers byte-version.
    Connect 32 to 64? Works!
    Connect 64 to 32? Works!
    Connect 32 to 32? Works!
    Connect 64 to 64? Works!
The client software really is independent from the MaxDB server software.
What's not independent is the byte-version of the application you want to use with the 32-bit client software.
In this case, the byte-version of the BO universe designer.
    > Any ideas to resolve this issue? Maybe "force" the MaxCB 32 bit client into installation?
Since I'm not (yet) familiar with the universe designer software ... is this a 32-bit software?
Have you already opened a support message to get an answer from the BO support collegues?
Is the BO universe designer officially supported on Windows 7/64-Bit at all?
    regards,
    Lars

  • How to Install 11g Management Agent

    Hi
I installed 11g EM Grid Control (11.1.0.1.0) on RHES 5U2 64bit server. Installation was successful. Now I wish to monitor my other database servers through this OEM. My servers are RHES 4U5 32bit so I downloaded 11g Agent Software for 32bit. runInstaller doesnt seem to work in GUI hence I had to modify the additional_agent.rsp file in the unzipped directory /../response and included details. When I run the installer with -silent option it fails after 5 minutes with Error: Connection timed out.
Since I cannot access internet therefore I have set these values in the .rsp file
    SECURITY_UPDATES_VIA_MYORACLESUPPORT="false"
    DECLINE_SECURITY_UPDATES="true"
    Is there a workaround?
    Thank you all

    Hi Rob
It worked while I was typing my response. Now I can see the target in OEM but when I try to set Target Credentials for the DB it fails.
    OEM->Home->Preferences->Preferred Credentials->Database Instance->Set Credentials-> Target Credentials
I tried with two different user accounts but both are not accepted. I verified that the accounts are not locked.
Also if I go to Database Instance Page and click on Configure, it doesnt show the property where I can set username and password (dbsnmp). Instead it is showing following error on top
Error occurred while getting information for the specified target. Possible reasons include: the target doesn't exist; connection to the target failed
    Any clues?

  • Report Builder 11g on Windows 7(64bit)?

    Hi Oracle Guys
I know that Report Builder 11g is not certified on Windows 7 (64Bit)
Knows someone if release 2 it is planned ?
Or knows someone for when the releases 2 or a patch is planned?
We want to install next year new Developer-Clients and we want to know if Windows 7 64bit is an “no go”

I use the 11g Reports Builder on 64bit Windows 7.
It works fine except that it doesn't like the Aero interface. Windows automatically switches to basic mode when you're running the builder.
If you're ok with that then you shouldn't have any problems.
    Cheers,
    Toby.

  • Installing additional 32bit printer drivers on Windows Server 2008R2

    Hi,
I'm trying to add additional printer drivers (32bit) on a 64bit server so that 64bit and 32bit clients can add printers from the print server. I have found several posts about this and none has helped me so far. I found one from GeorgeLawr that
    I copied below:
I have found the best way to do this is:
Install the printer/driver for the type of device you are installing on the server, i.e. Xerox printer WCP7765 and driver for this printer (64-bit).
    Share the printer out (optional).
Test print to make sure it works ok.
Then from a 32-bit client (must be logged into the client with an account that has admin rights on print server), browse the printer server shares, i.e. go to "Start\Run" and type \\printservername\ then go to "Printers and Faxes" right-click
and select "Connect" for the required printer and it will say it does not have the required drivers and will ask if you want to install.
Install the required 32-bit driver and it will install on the print server. You then have to enable this in the printer properties.
In the print queue window that opens up after you install the queue, go to "Printer\Properties\Sharing\Additional Drivers" and enable the "Intel Windows 2000 or XP" option (note, if you are doing this from a Windows 7/Vista client you might
have to click "Change Sharing Options" or something, before you can click "Additional Drivers" option).
And that's it. You should now be able to go to a different 32-bit client and add the printer and print no problem.
This one gets me closer to an answer; however, on step 5 once it asks for driver path, I direct it to the CD that has the driver and I get a message that states something similar to "this driver is not correct for this version of Windows"
It's like it's looking for 64bit drivers and the drivers on the CD are 32bit. The printer on the (64bit) server is already installed. I'm on the 32bit client.
Can somebody help me get this correct?
    Thanks,
    MC

    Hi,
We can add drivers for client computers running 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows.
To add client printer drivers to the print server
    ==================================
    1. Open Print Management.
    2. In the left pane, click Print Servers, click the applicable print server, and then click Printers.
    3. In the center pane, right-click the printer to which you want to add additional printer drivers, and then click Manage Sharing.
    4. Click Additional Drivers. The Additional Drivers dialog box appears.
    5. Select the check box of the processor architecture for which you want to add drivers.
For example, if the print server is running an x64-based edition of Windows, select the x86 check box to install 32-bit version printer drivers for client computers running 32-bit versions of Windows.
    6. If the print server does not already have the appropriate printer drivers in its driver store, Windows prompts you for the location of the driver files. Download and extract the appropriate driver files, and then in the dialog box that appears, specify
the path to the .inf file of the driver.
Note: You might not be able to extract some printer drivers without installing them. If this is the case, log on to a client computer that uses the same processor architecture as the printer drivers that you want to add to the print server, and install those
printer drivers. Then use Print Management from the client computer to connect to the print server, and add the additional drivers from the Additional Drivers dialog box. Windows automatically uploads the drivers from the client computer to the print server.

  • Why Does Installing The JDK On A 64bit OS Install 3 Copys of the JRE???

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit version. I recently installed the JDK and realized that along with it 3 copys of the JRE were installed. This is a brand new computer I am running that I just brought home a few days ago so I know there not older versions. Basically what I have is the following; I downloaded the 64bit JDK package and installed it on my system. Now I have the following set up and would like to know if I can safely uninstall any of these as I dont think I need all of them.
Under Program File(x86) I have the jre6 installed there, that is the 32bit version.
Under Program Files I have the jre6 installed there, as well as the jdk1.6.0_20 these are the 64bit versions. The troubling thing is that inside the jdk1.6.0_20 folder I have yet another jre installation.
Now I assume that I need both 32 and 64 bit versions on my system for whatever reason is the case. What I do not understand is why if the jre6 is already installed in both the 32 and 64 bit locations as indicated above, than why does it also get installed inside the jdk1.6.0_20 folder location?? I know that the jre comes bundled with the jdk but is that the jre that is located inside the jdk directory or is it the jre folder????
Could someone please explain to me exactly how this works and what version i can uninstall??? I am assuming that I can remove the seperate jre6 install that is located in the 64 bit program files location as then that would leave me with the 32bit jre still installed and I would also still have the jre that is installed inside the jdk folder...
Am I correct on this one??? Also another quick question.... If you need both 32 and 64bit jre's than why don't you need both 32 and 64bit jdks??? Also is it possible to just go ahead and run only the 32bit version on a 64bit machine???
Thanks in advance for any help

They bother me because I prefer to keep my system tidy as possible. I do not like to have extra things installed that just waste hard drive space. I am the type of person that keeps my system as clean as my house. I don't like having things laying around that are never going to be used and just waste space. Now in this case apparantly one of these copies of java is not going to be used ever. It makes no sense to me that if the jdk comes with the jre bundled, then why would it also install a seperate jre in another folder when there is already a jre contained within the jdk folder?????
I understand the purpose of the 32 bit install of the jre, but why would you have the following set up???
    Program Files
    jdk1.6.0_20>>jre
    jre6Program Files(x86)
jre6Thats 3 copies of the jre and only 1 of the jdk?!?!?! I need one jre for 32bit and one for 64bit, but why the extra copy in the 64bit location???
You mention uninstalling and reinstalling, but as I said earlier this pc is only a week old and all i did was download the 64bit jdk from the Java website and install it. So all that will accomplish is the same result. My question was trying to figure out if it is safe to remove the extra copy of the jre without losing any functions????? Or would it be better to just remove it all and install the 32bit version???? I read that the 64 bit is for Internet Explorer 64bit which i never use, I use google chrome and firefox which are both 32bit. The thing is though is that the jdk is what I need for programming. Does it matter whether its 64 or 32 bit????
