Install 11g on Linux ubuntu

Hi,
can we install 11g on Linux ubuntu 7.4 ? In Quick Installation Guide
11g Release 1 (11.1) for Linux x86 B32280-01 August 2007 it is said :
Operating System Requirements
The following are the operating sytem requirements for Oracle
Database 11g release 1:
■ Asianux 2.0
■ Asianux 3.0
■ Oracle Enterprise Linux 4.0
Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.0
■ Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0
■ Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0
■ SUSE Enterprise Linux 10.0
On my linux machine I have
desktop:~$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.20-15-generic (root@palmer) (gcc version 4.1.2 (Ubuntu 4.1.2-0ubuntu4)) #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007
Many thanks.
Many thanks before.

I would be interested to know what other dependencies you had to install, because if there had been any encountered whilst writing the article, I would have documented them.
Ubuntu doesn't give you much choice when it comes to the OS installation phase, after all. So, assuming we're talking about a fresh OS installation, you cannot have had a different set of packages than me to start off with.
And the 8 packages I mention as being necessary by way of prelude to the Oracle installation are the only 8 I needed to achieve an error-free Oracle install. If I'd needed more, I would have mentioned them!
So if we start off from the same place, do the same things and come out with different results, I would be interested in the details...
Of course, I was documenting Xubuntu and you're using Ubuntu, so maybe that's the difference. On the other hand, I've just checked my Ubuntu 7.10 + 11g article, and it's only got the same 8 packages, too... and it certainly doesn't complain about unsatisfied dependencies. A mystery, then.

  • How to install JDK on LINUX Ubuntu on system with no net/wireless?

    Hello!
    I need to install JDK on LINUX Ubuntu on system with no net/wireless connection.
    What are the commands?
    Thank you!

    - Download your release of choice from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
    - Put the file on a USB thumb drive
    - Mount that drive on the target machine
    - Follow the installation instructions.
    The Linux/Ubuntu downloads of the JDK are offline installers (i.e. the downloaded file contains everything that's required). Only Windows currently has an online installer (smaller initial download, but requires a net connection for the actual installation)
    Alternatively: install the OpenJDK from the official Ubuntu packages using apt-zip (http://wiki.debian.org/AptZip).

    Package
    The prerequis verification of the installer will check all package. With an Oracle Database 11g installed, you need only to install one package (compat-db-4.1.25-9) that you can get from yum of from the installation DVD.
    On yum, I found the package compat-db-4.2.52-5.1.i386.rpm that I have copied and installed from the tmp directory.
    [root@oel11g tmp]# rpm -Uvh compat-db-4.2*

    thanks all!

    First of all, Ubuntu is not supported.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.xls
    You may have to install it on OEL or Redhat.
    Second, have you installed your database ?
    Check this link:
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/database/oracle/install_11gr2_oel_linux
    I've tried to give a lot of information about how to play with the kernel parameter and the package.
    If your database is correctly installed, you will not have this problem.
    Succes

  • Finally installed 11g on Linux!

    Tips, if you have a 64bit machine install 64bit software!
    When installing Oracle Linux select 'customise now' at the packages screen, select system/system files and look for a package called something like 'oracle recommended' this installed all the files needed for 11g and edited the kernel paramter files :)

    That sounds like a good idea
    Here is some more information (posted by Avi Miller)
    To install the Oracle Validated package during installation:
    1. Follow the installation process as normal until you get to the first software selection screen (it lists a series of tasks that you can add support for, and has an option at the bottom: "Customize Later" and "Customize Now"
    2. Select the "Customize Now" option and click Next
    3. Select "Base System" in the left-hand list and then "System Tools" in the right hand list. Click the checkbox next to "System Tools", then click the "Optional Packages" button.
    4. Scroll down and select the "oracle-validated" package and click "Close"
    You can now click "next" and continue the installation as normal. This also creates the oracle user/groups, sets up sysctl.conf, limits.conf, etc. It's fairly nifty.

  • Installing JDK in linux (ubuntu)

    Ubuntu installs software by running an install script. I download the JDK package file for Linux and select OPEN rather than SAVE as the download option. I Looked everywhere for the install script but couldn't find it. The first time around I selected SAVE rather than OPEN when I downloaded the file. The file name is jdk-7u3-nb-7_1_1-linux-ml.sh. I couldn't find any unzip program that could unzip the saved file. That is why I chose OPEN rather than SAVE the next time around.
    MY QUESTION IS: where can I get the install script? Also what unzip program will unzip the saved file? Does anyone have a suggestion?

    The easy way to install open jdk, you can simply issue the following command in your terminal :
    sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk
    if you want to install oracle JDK, you must download jdk archive file (tar file, not rpm) here : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
    Unzip it any where you like, then set your path manually , that would be something like this :
    there is a text file in your home directory called .bashrc
    you can open it with any editor you like or type the following in terminal :
    sudo nano .bashrc
    then add the following lines at the end of .bashrc file, and save : (replace ##AddressToJAVA## with your java (JDK or JRE) path. your path would be something like : /home/me/jdk1.7.0_02
    JAVA_HOME='##AddressToJAVA##'
    export JAVA_HOME
    PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
    export PATH
    CLASSPATH=$JAVA_HOME/lib
    export CLASSPATH
    the logout and login, and test your installation :
    "java -version" command must echo your installation version

    That's right, but if you are directly on the console, then :0.0 is enough. The xhots + command allows any client to use the display to launch its Xterm clients, such as OUI from oracle.

  • Oracle 11g Express for Ubuntu Linux

    Just like Oracle provided express edition for linux for 10g, will there be an easy to install express edition of 11g for linux? I mean via apt-get or debs or synaptic. Of course, synaptic being the easiest I have EVER seen oracle install on linux.
    I want to try Linux as a developer, but installing 11g on linux the normal way is a pain. I do not want to spend days trying to install 11g on linux. I want to get busy doing something with 11g such as write queries and design databases.

    Yes, sigh.
    If only people could write what they mean!My apologies for not being adept at the language. But we have both been wrangling with my lack of
    language skills for years, so we should be used to it by now.
    >
    Are you saying EE when you mean XE, perhaps?No. I meant EE using synaptic. Which does not exist. Which may explain why some people think the installation is difficult. The tools they have learned are not there and the fight to find or learn the alternatives is not pleasant.
    And even the simple stuff may seem. difficult. Some people, including modern developers with IDEs, are very concerned about the difficulties of editing in Linux. In my Oracle on Linux courses, I see grown men near tears when I tell them to edit sysctl.conf ... you should see the visible relief when I describe gedit or kate.
    You have been doing the baseline install for years - Back in the Red Hat 9 days, I'd been handing out the HJR Linux install (with your written permission) in my classes for years. So I expect us to get it done in a short time. Cookie-cutter boot, thru install Linux & Oracle, to tnsping shouldn't take us (you and me) more than 1.5-2.5 hours. (Especially if all we want is a basic data dump.)
    But ... reading the docco, translating the steps into a manual sequence, and finding and running the synaptic equivalent to the documented rpm commands - aka a synaptic install - can take days. Heck, just reading the docco to get it straight under a certified distro can take days.
    After that, OUI is simple, and (if the pre-reqs are clean) nearly fool-proof.
    BTW - why do we have to fight with the pre-reqs? Why can there not be more variants of the SUSE-supplied orarun.rpm to do all that manual stuff?

  • Problem with Site Studio sites unde Linux - Ubuntu 9.10

    Hello all,
    I installed UCM under Linux (Ubuntu 9.10). As part of the setup I configured the installed Apache server by adding to apache2.conf:
    LoadModule IdcApacheAuth /opt/oracle/ucm/server/shared/os/linux/lib/IdcApache22Auth.so
    IdcUserDB idc "/opt/oracle/ucm/server/data/users/userdb.txt"
    Alias /idc "/opt/oracle/ucm/server/weblayout"
    <Location /idc>
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    DirectoryIndex portal.htm index.htm
    IdcSecurity idc
    </Location>
    UCM interface works as expected and all was working ok.
    I then followed the Site Studio Tutorial Setup Guide and added some lines to the apache2.conf and it now looks like:
    LoadModule IdcApacheAuth /opt/oracle/ucm/server/shared/os/linux/lib/IdcApache22Auth.so
    IdcUserDB idc "/opt/oracle/ucm/server/data/users/userdb.txt"
    Alias /idc "/opt/oracle/ucm/server/weblayout"
    <Location /idc>
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    DirectoryIndex portal.htm index.htm
    IdcSecurity idc
    </Location>
    UseCanonicalName off
    <Location "/">
    IdcSecurity idc
    </Location>
    Afterwards I installed the Ravenna Hosting Tutorial. It appears ok in the site studio configuration pages. But when I try to view the site I get a 404. In apache access.log I see:
    172.18.0.160 - - [01/Mar/2010:10:25:58 +0000] "GET /RVH/index.htm HTTP/1.1" 404 499 "http://ucm/idc/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_SITES_ADMIN_PAGE" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; pt-PT; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 GTB5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) WIT Toolbar 2.0.17 for Firefox"
    And in error.log I have:
    [Mon Mar 01 10:28:05 2010] [error] [client 172.18.0.160] File does not exist: /var/www/RVH, referer: http://ucm/idc/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_SITES_ADMIN_PAGE
    Can someone give me a hand at what I'm doing wrong?

    Managed to solve this.
    The problem was with SSUrlMapPlugin.so not being loaded because of a missing dependency in the OS. I had to install libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2_2.95.4-24_i386.deb that is no longer on the Ubuntu 9.10 repositories so one has to fetch it from older releases.
    wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/g/gcc-2.95/libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2_2.95.4-24_i386.deb
    dpkg -i libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2_2.95.4-24_i386.deb
    And then restart apache and the content server.

    I belive you can follow this thread if you insist to make 11g installation on ubuntu. But as installation documents refer Ubuntu is not a certified platform yet for 11gr2,you can find details on below docs. (I suggest use OEL platform which is free and certified wiht Oracle 11gR2 db)

    (all other Disk spaces were accepted.)
    Where I can correct the disk space allocation ? There are 67 GB free disk space on my pc, avalaible space before VIS install was 270 GB approximatively.

    The problem is Oracle usually don't provide direct Oracle Client download except for Windows. You need to download the Server installation file and install the client piece. The download files are rather large.
    and is there any other tool which i can install instead of oracle client?It depends on what you plan to do with Oracle client and why you need it.
    On alternative is instance client, it has direct download for all supported platform.

    Kindly Help...

    You can just copy the relevant parts (the ones marked with error). You can also look at the timing
    when it happened the reports environment did not start.
    From what i remember this could be a memory issue, standard every managed server (WLS_FORMS and WLS_REPORTS) instance
    is configured with 1024m bytes of memory.
    What we did is first install a forms instance and after that a reports instance. After the forms installation we adjusted the
    memory parameters in setWLSEnv (<middleware-home>/user_projects/domains/<domain-name>/bin). Look in this file
    for references to WLS_FORMS (something similar to: if [ "${SERVER_NAME}" = "WLS_FORMS" ] ; then).
    Another thing which springs to my mind is, which products did you select. If you just want Forms and Reports
    you can select just the following:
    - Oracle Forms
    - Oracle Reports
    - Developer Tools aan.
    - Management Components
    - Oracle HTTP Server
    and deselect the other options:
    - Oracle Portal
    - Oracle Discoverer
    - Oracle WebCache
    - Clustered (if you are not using clustering)
    We also had to fix the following files (i do not think that you have to do this since your Forms did not show any problems):
    - (On Windows) Copy the file msvcr71.dll (FMW/windows/extra) to WINDOWS/system32.
    - Copy the file mod_wl_ohs.so (FMW/<operating-system>/extra) to <middleware-home>/as_1/ohs/modules.

  • J2SE v 1.4.2_04 SDK on Linux (ubuntu) install problem

    I've seen this question posted on this forum a number of times but no-one seems to know the answer. I would love an answer to this as have already spent far too much time trying to sort it out.
    I am trying to install the j2me mobile development kit: J2SE v 1.4.2_04 SDK with NetBeans 3.6 Bundle, on Linux ubuntu ...
    I download the file from this site ....
    I follow the instructions on the site:
    I do the chmod and this works ok
    I type ./j2sdk-1_4_2_04-nb-3_6-bin-linux.bin ( this is the instruction from Sun)
    and then get the error message:
    bash: j2sdk-1_4_2_04-nb-3_6-bin-linux.bin: command not found
    What's the solution? Any ideas?
    thanks

    try :
    sh jdkblahblhabl.bin
    But there is a debian way to install it see links at http://rzr.online.fr/q/Java
