Install 11g on solaris 11 11/11
Can someone give me some idea on how to install oracle database 11g on solaris 11 11/11?
I checked the oracle manual, but it seems to me solaris 11 11/11 only supports 11g 2.0.3.0, which is only available on oracle support? If I only have access to free source like 11g 2.0.2.0, is it possible for me to install the database 11g on solaris 11 11/11?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I had installed only solaris 11 11/11 on my laptop. Does that mean I have to install a solaris 10 and get rid of 11 in order to install database 11g?
If I have to use solaris 10 instead of solaris 11. It goes back to my original question: with my windows 7 and solaris 11 11/11, I couldn't delete solaris 11 and install 10. Because I intend to do it with a USB drive. I post my question here:
how to install solaris 10 8/11 with USB?
Many thanks!

I think that the error would be caused by the JDK version with which try to initializing.
Anyone have any idea about the possible error? Thanks in advance.Hi, I encourage you to try to use the generic installer at: %SOA_INSTALLER_DIR%/Disk1/runInstaller. Because if you are using the runInstaller at %SOA_INSTALLER_DIR%/Disk1/install/solaris it will lead to that problem in some cases.

Cant install agent11g on Solaris 9
Hi
I do have problem installing agent on solaris 9 64 bit.
I tried tree ways - pushing agent from OMS, downloading agent using agentDownload and cloning agent from almost identical machine.
Installation script start failing on the linking step giving errors about not being able to link. All prerequisites for agent are met.
The third solution works until starting agent.
Agent doesn't start throwing an error:
emctl start agent

If I execute this being in AGENT_HOME directory but using emctl.pl:

Also: 11gR1 on Solaris failing at relink phase with errors like "ld: fatal: relocation error" and then "ld: fatal: library -lclntsh: not found" [ID 848700.1] could be of help regarding the link (lclntsh) error.

Can you send details how can I create the raw devices and data files file system ?mrosa001 wrote:
I have some more questions:
How can I have the raw device shared by 2 servers?Yes - if the device/LUN is shared between cluster nodes. In other words, each cluster node need to see the same device. Once that is done, you can simply partition the device (if needed) and turn that into a raw device.
You will however need to configure the raw device entries (a file called +/etc/sysconfig/rawdevices+ on Linux) on each node.
Remember that you need 5 raw devices typically - 2 for the OCR and 3 for the Voting Disks.
Not sure about Solaris, but raw devices have been deprecated on the Linux 2.6 kernel as block devices can now be opened using direct I/O. Oracle recommends not using raw devices on Linux anymore. Not sure if this applies to Solaris. If it does, then 10g CRS Installer have a bug that prevents it from using block devices - forcing you to use raw devices (and then change it back to block devices after CRS has been installed). Or, you may find it easier to install 11g CRS instead and run 10g RAC on it (a certified Oracle combination).
Do I have to install ASM before the Oracle Clusterware SW?No. You install CRS first. Once that is installed correctly and successfully, then install RAC. I prefer installing RAC without checking any "+create db+" options.
Once RAC has been successfully installed, use dbca to create the ASM instances. Once that is done, create the the RAC database and instances. -

OWB11g error installing workflow on Solaris

You need to ensure that OS package SUNWuiu8 is installed on your Solaris. You may get this error if this package is not installed.
If you do not know how to do this, contact your System or Unix Administrator.
Note that this package may not be listed in your documentation. See Note 290034.1 on Metalink if you can -

How to install Dual OS(solaris 10 and Windows XP)?
I have got a 80 gb sata hard disk and i am not able to install Dual OS(solaris and Windows XP ) on it.My Partitions are as follows:
Primary partition-5GB
Remaining are extended Partition.
Extended partition details
8 gb NTFS partition(installed windows XP)
7 gb NTFS partiton(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partition(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partiton(has data in it)
15 gb RAW partiton
I first installed Windows xp on 8 gb Extended partiton. Then when i installed Solaris i could see only 2 partitons. One with the 5 gb and the other with the 71 gb.I actually wanted to install my solaris on the 15 gb Raw partition.Since i could not see the partition(15 gb Raw) i installed solaris on the 5 gb partition. Now when the comp boots it goes to solairs os only.i dont have the option to choose windows at all.
could any one of you explain me how the partitions are supposed to be and how could i make it as a Dual OS.

SaravananMandalaWindows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

Installing 11i on Solaris and migrating 8.0.5 to new 8.1.6 database
I've installed 11i (several times) on a new Sun solaris server. I also selected it to install a fresh database. On another server we have 11.0 and 8.0.5 database. We are using a new server to install 11i and we want to move our database over. I managed to transfer all database files over to the new server and upgrade to 8.1.6 (succeeded)
How do I proceed now to get the 11i applications to use the database i've transferred over. Is this possible??? Can't find any clear documentation on how to merge this database into the applications 11i.
Thanks
nullGina, I am attempting something similar... but it involves moving an exisiting installation from HP-UX to Solaris, so I cannot move the datafiles... If I run into a method that helps both of us, I will let you know... as of now, I am installing fresh on Solaris and going to try to run upgrade scripts on existing 10.7 and exp/imp into the new instance on 11i (Solaris).
Let me know of anything you find out that could help me, and I will do the same...

How to Install 11g Management Agent
Hi
I installed 11g EM Grid Control (11.1.0.1.0) on RHES 5U2 64bit server. Installation was successful. Now I wish to monitor my other database servers through this OEM. My servers are RHES 4U5 32bit so I downloaded 11g Agent Software for 32bit. runInstaller doesnt seem to work in GUI hence I had to modify the additional_agent.rsp file in the unzipped directory /../response and included details. When I run the installer with -silent option it fails after 5 minutes with Error: Connection timed out.
Since I cannot access internet therefore I have set these values in the .rsp file
SECURITY_UPDATES_VIA_MYORACLESUPPORT="false"
DECLINE_SECURITY_UPDATES="true"
Is there a workaround?
Thank you all
Edited by: user560883 on Jun 10, 2010 3:52 AMHi Rob
It worked while I was typing my response. Now I can see the target in OEM but when I try to set Target Credentials for the DB it fails.
OEM->Home->Preferences->Preferred Credentials->Database Instance->Set Credentials-> Target Credentials
I tried with two different user accounts but both are not accepted. I verified that the accounts are not locked.
Also if I go to Database Instance Page and click on Configure, it doesnt show the property where I can set username and password (dbsnmp). Instead it is showing following error on top
Error occurred while getting information for the specified target. Possible reasons include: the target doesn't exist; connection to the target failed
Any clues? -

64-bit WLS 11G for Solaris?
I can not locate the 64-bit version of WLS 11G for Solaris. When I go to the download page all I see are 32-bit versions (at least they look like 32-bit version as denoted by the filenames such as wls1031_solaris32.bin).
I have attempted to go through the e-delivery site but do not want to download a 21 part 11Gig file if it is not the correct one.
I would appreciate any help at all.I am pretty confident that you need the 64 bit JVM for your platform, then you need to use the generic installer, this is based on how it has been done in prior releases.
So you can find the available JVM's for your platform here:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/oracle%20fusion%20middleware%2011gr1%20(11%201%201%201%200)%20certification%20matrix.xls
In this case that would be Sun JVM 1.6.0_11+
OR
JRockit 6 Update 5 R27.6.2+
Then you should be able to run the generic installer here with that downloaded supported JDK:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/wls_main.html
I was not able to find anything specific on the documentation pages that described this process in detail, but you can always open a support case to get some assistance. I will check with the documentation team to see if that is going to be documented or already is.
If you look at the 10gR3 releases, it shows how the generic installer is used, for example:
http://e-docs.bea.com/platform/suppconfigs/configs/solaris/solaris10_103.html#104355 -
