Install 11gR2 RAC Database Problem: Invalid source path /.../Datafiles

Folks,
Hello. I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 VMs (rac1 and rac2) whose OS are Oracle Linux 5.6 in VMPlayer according to the website http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2011/10/11gr2-rac-on-linux-56-using-vmware.html
I have just finished installing Grid infrastructure and start to install RAC database 11gR2.
I have downloaded 2 files from https://edelivery.oracle.com as below:
V17530-01_1of2
V17530-01_2of2
When I start to install the RAC database using the above 2 files but get the error below:
[ora11g@rac1 V17530-01_1of2]$ ls
database
[ora11g@rac1 V17530-01_1of2]$ cd database
[ora11g@rac1 database]$ ls
doc install response rpm runInstaller sshsetup stage welcome.html
[ora11g@rac1 database]$ ./runInstaller

[ora11g@rac1 database]$
As we see the output above, the error is Invalid source path /../stage/Components/oracle.jdk/1.5.0.17.0/1/DataFiles.
My questions are:
First, are the files V17530-01_1of2 and V17530-01_2of2 the correct files for 11gR2 RAC database ?
Second, how to solve the issue "Invalid source path /../stage/Components/oracle.jdk/1.5.0.17.0/1/DataFiles" ?
Thanks.

Folks,
Hello. thanks a lot for replying.
I go up one level ( / ) and run the command again as below:
[root@rac1 /]# du --max-depth=1 -h
Its output:
8.0K ./srv
83M ./sbin
9.0G ./tmp
4.9G ./usr
157M ./var
20M ./boot
8.4M ./bin

0 ./proc
248K ./root
0 ./sys
117M ./etc
3.3G ./home
3.5M ./opt
25G .
[root@rac1 /]#
As we see the output above, it seems that 25GB disk space is used and /tmp occupies 9GB.
I have remove the files under /tmp but after reboot OS, the same files come up again under /tmp.
Some folks use 12GB for each of their VMs and is enough to install Grid and RAC Database.
My questions are:
Why my VM with 30GB disk space does not have enough disk space to install RAC database ?
Can any folk help to solve the issue ?
Thanks.

  • Uninstall Oracle 11gr2 RAC database in grid infrastructure

    Hi all,
After several attempt to install my Oracle database RAC with grid infrastructure, i want now to do a fresh installation as i have attempted 3 times and now i have all the procedure on installing the database and RAC.
Actually i have installed it correctly but now i want to cleanup my server and remove all oracle installation directory and do a fresh installation.
My question is what is the procedure to uninstall an Oracle RAC database and Clusterware with grid infrastucture and cleanup oracle base installation.
    The architecture is:
GRID and clusterware: Oracle grid 11gR2
    Database: Oracle database 11gR2
    Database and grid storage: ASM
    OS: linux centos 6
    Thank you.
    Raluce.

The deinstallation of Oracle GI could be not so easy thing to do, because it contains many components one should be aware of.  The proper deinstall is important because it will safe you from many issues with next install on these servers
In general we need to be sure that:
    1. all sowftware stopped properly
    2. removed from oraInventory
    3. binaries removed
    4. /etc/oracle cleared
    5. ocr and votes cleared using dd
    6. /etc/oratab updated
    7. .profile updated
    8. init.d files in /etc/ cleard
Usually its recommended to use deconfigure scripts, if they fails for some reason, the manual procedure should be followed.

How to Deinstall Oracle Clusterware Home Manually [ID 1364419.1]
As general recommendation its good idea to save your crs configuration for future reference.

  • Using Oracle 11gR1 OID to control access to 11gR2 RAC database ?

I have a two 11gR2 RAC Node database that I would like to implement Oracle 11gR1 OID to manage all access to the RAC database.
Should I install and configure Oracle 11gR1 OID into the same RAC database to control access to the RAC database? Is this the appropriate approach?
Please share your ideas... I couldn't make it to Openword to ask this type of question.

    Hi,
I think there is some confusion here. OID doesnt protect your database. All OID is doing is taking the authentication of the user and authorization (privileges) of the user to OID and out of the database. This way you can centralize the management of all user accounts in one place and not worry about it in the database. This is helpful only if you have many databases. If you have a very small number of databases and small number of user accounts, then OID is not really buying you anything. The best practices is published in the oracle docs. Just that you have to read a lot to figure it all out. Here are some info from our installation.
    1. weblogic and oid application is installed on a application server
    2. Repository database is a independant database (not shared with other apps) in a shared RAC cluster.
    3. Replication (OID application replication) setup between a primary oid server and a secondary oid server in the DR site
    4. Load balancer configured to point to the primary server and if primary server is not available, point the connection to secondary server
    5. DIP configured to pull all users and groups from active directory
    6. Password filter installed on all DC's to capture passwords and ship it to oid.
    7. Users creation, modification, deletion, expiry, etc., is all controlled on active directory.
    8. Database registered with OID for user authentication and authorization
For protecting you data, you will need to use additional security methods/products like :
    1. Database vault (to prevent privileged users from operating on the data)
    2. Database auditing
    3. Fine-grained access control
    4. table level policies
    5. Fine-grained auditing (column level)
    6. Audit vault (to consolidate all audit records to a central place for auditors to classify and research each audit event)
    7. operational/process to enforce security.
    Good luck :-).

    Shaji.

  • Reinstalling Oracle 11gR2 RAC Grid Problem - ASM Disks Group

    Folks,
    Hello.
I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2 whose OS are Oracle Linux 5.6) in VMPlayer.
I have been installing Grid Infrastructure using runInstaller in the first VM rac1 from step 1 to step 9 of 10.
On the step 9 of 10 in the Wizard, accidentally, I touch the Mouse, and the Wizard is gone.
The directory for installing Grid in the 2 VMs is the same: /u01
In order to make sure everything is correct, I delete entire directory /u01 in the 2 VMs and install Grid in rac1 again.
I have understood it's not the right way to delete /u01. The right way is to follow the tutorial
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/rem_orcl.htm#CBHEFHAC
But I have deleted /u01 and need to fix one by one. I install Grid again and get the error message on step 5 of 9 as follows:
[INS - 30516] Please specify unique disk groups.
    [INS-3050] Empty ASM disk group.
Cause - Installer has detected the disk group name provided already exists on the system.
Action - Specify different disk group.
In Wizard, the previous Disk Group name is "DATA" and its Candidate disks (5 ASMDISKs) are gone. I try to use a different name "DATA2", but no ASMDISKs come up under "Candidate disks". For "ALL Disks", all ASMDISKs cannot be selected.
I want to use the same ASM disk group "DATA" and don't want to create a new disk group.
    My question is:
How to have the previous ASM disks and its group "DATA" come up under "Candidate Disks" so that can use it again ?
    Thanks.

Hi, in case this helps anyone else. I got this INS-30516 error too was stumped for little while. I have 2 x 2-node RAC which are hitting same SAN. The first-built RAC has a DATA diskgroup. When went to build second RAC on new ASM disk new DIskgroup (but same diskgroup name DATA) got INS-30516 about diskgroup name already in use etc. Finally figured out all that was required was to restrict diskstring using button in installer to only retrieve the LUNS for this RAC (this was quick and dirty - all LUNS for both RAC being presented to both RAC). Once diskstring only searched for the LUNS required for this RAC only, e.g.
    ORCL:DATA_P* (for DATA_PD and FRA_PD)
    the error went away.
I also have DATA_DR and FRA_DR presenting to both RAC. Apparently it scans the header and if it finds a diskgroup name that is already in use based on the diskstring scan it will not allow reuse of the diskgroup name since it has no way of knowing that the other ASM disks are for a different RAC.

  • Install 11gr2 RAC, dose all IP needs to go in DNS server or just 3 scan ip

    Hello,
I am bulding a brand new 2 node RAC cluster (11gR2). But i know this new version has some big changes with the scan. My question is, do all the IP needs to be in a DNS server or just the 3 IP related to the scan ??
So do i need to put in 2 public, 2 private, 2 VIP, 3 scan ip (all 9 of them) in the DNS or just the 3 scan ip ???

it depends. If you decide to use GNS then no but it you want to do manual configuration of the oracle network portion then yes. (Personally I would suggest do so just as a fallback but that's just me).
the following from the install guide explains it best:
1.2.4 Overview of Network Connection Requirements
The following is an overview of network configuration requirements for Grid Naming Service (GNS) in a Grid Plug and Play configuration, and manual network configuration. Network administrators and system administrators can refer to the Preinstallation chapter in Oracle Grid Infrastructure Installation Guide for your platform for detailed configuration information.
The network configuration for Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC requires several addresses. The following is a list of those addresses:
GNS virtual IP address (GNS installations only): A static IP address configured in the GNS. The GNS virtual IP listener forwards queries to nodes in the subdomain on the cluster managed by GNS.
Within the subdomain, the GNS uses multicast Domain Name Service (mDNS) to enable the cluster to map hostnames and IP addresses dynamically as nodes are added and removed from the cluster, without requiring additional host configuration in the DNS.
To enable GNS, you must have your network administrator provide a set of IP addresses for a subdomain assigned to the cluster (for example, grid.example.com), and forward DNS requests for that subdomain to the GNS virtual IP address for the cluster, which GNS will serve.
Single Client Access Name (SCAN): A domain name that resolves to all the addresses allocated for the SCAN. Oracle recommends that you allocate three addresses to the SCAN. During Oracle Grid Infrastructure installation, listeners are created for each of the SCAN addresses, and Oracle Clusterware controls which server responds to a SCAN address request.
For high availability, you should provide at least three IP addresses in the DNS to use for SCAN mapping for high availability. A SCAN domain name must be unique within your corporate network.
Virtual IP address: A public internet protocol (IP) address for each node, to be used as the Virtual IP address (VIP) for client connections. If a node fails, then Oracle Clusterware fails over the VIP address to an available node.
During installation, if you do not use Grid Naming Service (which provides the VIP automatically), you provide VIP addresses. The VIP for each node is associated with the same interface name on every node that is part of your cluster. If you have a domain name server (DNS), then your network administrator should register the host names for the VIP with the DNS, so that it is resolvable from any client, as well as the cluster nodes. The VIP should not be in use at the time of the installation, because this is an IP address that Oracle Clusterware manages.
Public IP address: A public host name address for each node, assigned by GNS, or assigned by the system administrator during initial system configuration for manual configurations. The public IP address name must be resolvable to the hostname. Register both the public IP and the VIP address with the DNS. If you do not have a DNS, then you must make sure that both public IP addresses are in the node /etc/hosts file (for all cluster nodes).
Private IP address: A private IP address for each node to serve as the private interconnect address, dedicated exclusively to internode cluster communication. GNS configures the address automatically. If you select manual configuration, then you must ensure that the following is true for each private IP address:
    o
It must be separate from the public network
    o
It must be accessible on the same network interface on each node
    o
It must be connected to a network switch between the nodes for the private network; crosscable interconnects are not supported
The private interconnect is used for internode communication by both Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC. If you use manual configuration, then the private IP address must be available in each node's /etc/hosts file. Oracle recommends that it is configured on a dedicated switch (or switches) that are not connected to anything other than the nodes in the same cluster.
    Note:
All host names must conform to the RFC 952 standard, which permits alphanumeric characters. Host names using underscores ("_") are not allowed.

  • Installing Oracle 11g database problem (loopback adatper problem)

Hi, I tried to install Oracle 11g and I got a warning mentioning that I need to install Loopback adapter first.
I followed the Loopback adapter installation instruction from the oracle website, and in the last step I need to add a line to the hosts file. Which is where I got a problem...my laptop doesn't have a domain name, but it's a workgroup name instead.
    So can I put this:
    ip_address host_name
    instead of this:
    ip_address host_name.domain_name host_name
And if we cannot do that, should I try this 2nd method below?:
I also read one thread in the forum saying that we don't need to install Loopback adapter, but instead we have to edit the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files and make the value for HOST 127.0.0.1.

If I understand you correctly, I should add a line like this in the host file(a, b, c or d??):
example: My computer host name is: "David"
    a) "10.10.10.10 David.testing.com"
    or
    b) "10.10.10.10 David.testing.com David"
    or
    c) "10.10.10.10 localhost.testing.com
    or
    d) "10.10.10.10 localhost.testing.com localhost"

    Hi,

Yes, some TNS connections can be slower than others. There are a number of factors. The initial connection may result in a redirect to another listener on a different IP address (e.g. load balancing). This will be slower than a direct connection (no redirect).
In such a case for example, where a redirect occurs, the client with receive a redirect to a new hostname. It needs to resolve that to an IP. This can be slow due to DNS issues (either with the DNS itself, or with the resolution scope config of the client).
The connection can request a dedicated sever instead of a shared server. A shared server connection is simply a hand-off of that client to an existing dispatcher process. A dedicated server connection requires the Listener to launch a brand new Oracle server process, for that process to attach itself to the SGA, and then resume the connection/conversation with the client. Thus shared server is by its nature a lot faster to establish a connection with than a dedicated server.
So there are a number of moving parts that can be slow. And you will need to isolate these and test each in turn to determine where the performance knock is.

  • How to install Oracle 11.2.0.4.0 Rac Database on Grid Infrastructure 12.1.0.2.0 (Windows 2012 R2)

    Hi all.
    This is the scenario:
I have a 2 node cluster Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 x86_64, the nodes are part of domain.
Installed Oracle 12cR1 (12.1.0.2.0) as follows:
Installation done using domain administrator named "installoracle" that has been EXPLICIT promoted to local administrator in both nodes.
One domain user named "oracle12c" with no administrator privileges neither in the domain or nodes.
Installation, after a lot of customization in the OS of the nodes, has gone ok, perfect indeed, not even a warning during runinstaller execution.
All services and resources are up & running, I have rebooted nodes and all comes back ok in place. In windows services I can see some services started with "oracle12c" user, and all windows groups: DBA, SYSKM, etc, has been created.
Now I have to install Oracle RAC database in 11gR2 version (11.2.0.4.0) to accomplish with application requirements.
So, I execute runInstaller (setup.exe) logged as administrator via domain administrator "installoracle" (the one that was able to do the smooth 12c GI installation) and the gui comes with out problems, but at 4th screen the one in which you have to choose what kind of installation you want to do (Single, RAC or RoN) I select RAC option, the gui returns error: crs is not running in the local node...
Finally, in order to deliver some database 11.2.0.4.0 for my customer, I try to do installation of SW for Single Node, I did using "installoracle". The sw has been installed in one of the nodes. Then I have created a database and I have stored datafiles in ASM (this ASM is part of 12c clusterware) and also register the 11gR2 single instance database in the Grid Infrastructure listener
So, whats next??? Why is this behavior??? I did similar installations in Linux/Solaris with no issue (well as everyone can imagine, always there are some issues, but when solved you got GI in 12c and databases in the release that you want 12c, 11g, 10g...)
    Any clue?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Best Regards!!

To go back to old version (without changing compatible parameter), you can perform downgrade.
    Instructions are available at
How to Downgrade from Database 11.2 to Previous Release (Includes 11.2.0.4 - 11.2.0.1) (Doc ID 883335.1)
In this case you will having all the data file including the new one.
But remember database may not be in the same status as before (Before upgrade). it may have invalid objects of higher version after downgrade.
Downgrade is applicable only to successfully upgraded databases. In case upgrade faced some issue, do not try downgrade there.
Your second approach it not correct. Note that each datafile header will have db version. We can not open database in normal mode when header version and binary versions are different.

  • 11gR2 RAC, ASM and database

    Hi all,
I've installed 11gR2 RAC and database on Linux OEL 5.4. Everything seems Ok, I'm able to connect from client using SCAN, and load balancing works well, but "crs_stat -t" shows up some OFFLINE services, like gsd and oc4j.
Is this normal ? If yes, why it's so ? If not, what should I do to solve the problem ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Antoine

    Thanks for your answer.
Those services are disabled, and I've found this one on MOS FAQs :
With Oracle Clusterware 11g Release 2, the GSD resource will be disabled by default. You only need to enable this resource if you are running Oracle 9i RAC in the cluster.

  • 11gr2 Rac Install: Stuck at the DNS SCAN portion.

    Hi Guys, it's Xev.
Ok, I have followed his install guide to the dot. http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/oracle-db-11gr2-rac-installation-on-oel5-using-virtualbox.php#install_grid_infrastructure
During the Grid Infrastructure install portion, it's stops me and tells me that "No Locally adapter is defined" when I am right here, it won't let me past this point right below...
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/images/ol5-112-rac/47-grid-ssh-connectivity.jpg
Now, this install document, tells you to put the 3 SCAN Ip addresses in the /ect/hosts file and does not tell you that you need to install DNS on a server and configure it, or does he? The way he says it to
    me just doesn't make sense.
My question is to only people that have actually installed 11gr2 RAC using VirtualBox and using oracle linux 5.8.
He says in the install document this right here, but some how i think he is just flat out wrong.
I quote from the install document,,,
If you are not using DNS, the "/etc/hosts" file must contain the following information.

Note. The SCAN address should not really be defined in the hosts file. Instead is should be defined on the DNS to round-robin between 3 addresses on the same subnet as the public IPs. For this installation, we will compromise and use the hosts file. This is not possible if you are using 11.2.0.2 onward.
If you are using DNS, then only the first line needs to be present in the "/etc/hosts" file. The other entries are defined in the DNS, as described here. Having said that, I typically include all but the SCAN addresses..

So, Guys, what does he actually mean with this? MY Grid install fails when it's trying to resolved the scan. DO I need to install DNS like he gives in the link above, OR can the install work with the SCAN in the /ect/hosts file? I Personally think this is just wrong, and you have to have DNS working 3 ip round-robin for the SCAN to work.
Please only reply to this thread if you have actually successfully installled 11rg2 Rac (11.0.1) on Oracle Linux 5.8 using VirtualBox, or actually know where i am going wrong by your own experience, not just goggle searching.....but you got it to work....
I am begging on my knees for help with this, since I have been at this for weeks now.
If you help me through this, I'll be your friend
