Install 11i.10 Financials

Hi,
We have the Oracle® Applications 11i Release 10.2 Media Pack for Linux x86.
We have a laptop with Vista and the configuration is
RAM : 2GB
Disk : 120GB
Coure2duo 2.4
Can we install 11i (Apps and DB + Vision Instance) on this laptop by using a Virtual Server (VMware) and what would be the recommended configuration.
Thanks!

Hi,
With 2GB RAM, you should be able to run one application instance (i.e. Vision or Fresh database but NOT both). For the disk space specification, please refer to the installation manual (for the application/database space as well as stage area directory space).

  • Installing 11i on Solaris and migrating 8.0.5 to new 8.1.6 database

I've installed 11i (several times) on a new Sun solaris server. I also selected it to install a fresh database. On another server we have 11.0 and 8.0.5 database. We are using a new server to install 11i and we want to move our database over. I managed to transfer all database files over to the new server and upgrade to 8.1.6 (succeeded)
How do I proceed now to get the 11i applications to use the database i've transferred over. Is this possible??? Can't find any clear documentation on how to merge this database into the applications 11i.
    Thanks

Gina, I am attempting something similar... but it involves moving an exisiting installation from HP-UX to Solaris, so I cannot move the datafiles... If I run into a method that helps both of us, I will let you know... as of now, I am installing fresh on Solaris and going to try to run upgrade scripts on existing 10.7 and exp/imp into the new instance on 11i (Solaris).
Let me know of anything you find out that could help me, and I will do the same...
    thanks

I have this 3 step process documented from my own installation. Hope this helps.
    Hardware: Sony Vaio VGN-SZ110 Laptop
    OS: XP home 2002 sp2
    Memory: 2gb
    Space: (internal-‘C’:100GB, external- ‘L’:160 GB)
Will be installed in : L drive
    Before you proceed:
    (a) A clean install in a clean system is a better idea.
    (b) Remove any existing JDK from your machine if you have.
    (c) Remember to create very big page file in all drives. (My L drive has initial of 20 GB and my C Drive has 5 GB)
Step 1: You need following software before you actually install Oracle 11i:
    (a)     VC++ 2005 Express Edition : go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/default.aspx
    Install in your C drive (C:\VC05) ,
Copy link .exe from C:\VC05\VC\bin to C:\WINDOWS\System32
    (b)     Install perl from http://www.activestate.com/store/productdetail.aspx?prdGuid=81fbce82-6bd5-49bc-a915-08d58c2648ca
Skip this step if you download Oracle.
    (c)     Install MKSToolkit or cygwin from http://www.cygwin.com/
    •     Go for the option ‘Install from internet’.
    •     Install in c:\cygwin
    •     Select ‘All Users’
    •     Default Text File Type should be ‘DOS’
    •     Package directory should be c:\cygwin

              9. Utils= Default, additionally you need to manually select cygutils and file.
You can additionally select and download other less required component.
    •     Download the selected files and install will follow.
    •     After installation completed
Open folder C:\cygwin\bin , rename following:
    gawk.exe to awk.exe
    grep.exe to egrep.exe
    make.exe to gnumake.exe
    gcc.exe to cc.exe
Go to My Computer – Properties- Advanced- Environment Variables- Set Path to include the C:\cygwin\bin
    or optionally
    C:\> set PATH = %PATH%;c:\cygwin\bin
And then check your PATH to see that it include C:\cygwin\bin and C:\VC05\VC\bin
    C:\>echo %PATH%
    Step 2: Domain name configuration:
(I would suggest, at this point, you disconnect from regular Internet (however, disconnect from the internet is not important)
    Computer name – dxxx
First, go to my computer  properties  computer name  change  more  put localhost in Primary DNS Suffix of this computer (in net bios computer name, you will see dxxx).
at this stage you will see changes in your computer name.
    computer name -- dxxx.localhost
Secondly, right click My Network Places  properties  right click Local Area Connection (this is your connection)  properties  select internet protocol TCPIP  properties  advanced  DNS  put localhost in DNS Suffix for this connection.
Remember: To go to regular internet, you will need to remove localhost from above settings. No
    Restart required.
Thirdly, go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc, backup hosts file.
    update as following:
    #127.0.0.1 localhost
    127.0.0.1 localhost.dxxx
Restart your Laptop and ping following:
    ping localhost.dxxx
    ping dxxx.localhost
    ping localhost
    Step 3: Installing Oracle 11.5.10.2:
    Getting ready for the installation:
    •     Download Oracle 11.5.10.2 (or get your media ready unzipped) and unzip in a folder called ‘Stage11i’.

    •     After passing the welcome screen, select Express Configuration.
    Database SID - VIS
    MKS Directory - C:\cgywin\bin
    MSDEV Directory - C:\VC05
    Domain - dxxx
    Base DIrectory - L:\oracle
    •     Next, you will go through a system check. You MUST pass this check.
    •     There are 5 installation steps at this stage. It takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete.
    •     Once all step 5 of 5 is completed, you will go through another system check.
you must pass these 6 checks
    - db availability check
    - dbc file check
    - jsp check
    - environment file check
    - http check
    - php check

  • Using remote CD to install 11i

I am trying to install 11.5.9 on a WINDOWS Server.
The CD is mapped from another server.
The cd locator ASKS FOR THE LOCATION OF THE 1ST rdbms DISK.
But when I click BROWSE, it does not show the remote shared CD-drive [F:].
Also, it will not allow me to enter drive F: in the DIRECTORY field.
    Whats going on?
How can I install from a remote CD?

Hi, First check wheather that drive is mapped on your system, if not map it first from My Network Neighbourhood icon. That could be a problem. Never install 11i from CD's. Always perform Staging installation. Read the oracle docs carefully.

    Hi JD,
I am able to fix this issue.....:-) Thanks for your help JD.
As per the Metalink note 747424.1, i replaced all occurances of LD_ASSUME_KERNEL with XD_ASSUME_KERNEL only in DB-tier, but not in the Apps tier. So this was causing the
above issue in the instalation of oracle 11i on OEL5
--Once again i alter and replaced all occurances of LD_ASSUME_KERNEL with XD_ASSUME_KERNEL in both the files....
    (db tier)
    <DB_HOME>/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh (did it earlier)
    (apps tier)
    <APPL_TOP>/ad/11.5.0/bin/adgetlnxver.sh
--run  the autoconfig in apps tier with completed successfully result (and also generated the  DBC files)
--run the adstrtal.sh and retry the rapidwiz once more. ( Oracle Discoverer services VIS_oracleapp1 - addisctl.sh - this one is Failed)
--This time everything checked OK in the instalation wizard.

  • Installing 11i apps on windows xp and Red Hat linux AS 3.0

    Hi,
I am a newbie to Oracle E-business suite............i will be very helpful if anybody could help me with the full procedure on how to install Oracle apps on windows on Windows XP and Red Hat linux AS 3.0.........starting with configuring ip.....i would really appreciate if somebody helps me out...........well thanks in advance..waiting for a optmistic reply...
    Thanks again,
    Virendra

I have done installation on XP and 2000 servers are heres the steps... detailed ones. I also request those who install Oracle Apps 11i to first read the installtion pdf's which helps you understand clearly the prerequisites overall.
You cannot find the Pre installtion steps(such as Mks Toolkit and GNUMake config) in more clear terms from those documents.Which are explained here.
The Must PDF's to refer before installation
    1)r1152ins.pdf
    2)11iconcepts.pdf
According to the 11iconcepts PDF you can decide your business needs the N-Tier Architecture and Database Server and Application Tier Server File System in a very clear terms.
The installation process can be divided into
    Pre Installtion,Installation and Post-Installation stages.
I would caution everyone to concentrate more on Pre Installation stage and which is more critical for a successfull installtion of Oracle Apps and to be free with later cropping up problems.
Further before moving into Installtion stages i have to Explain the Number of CD's and Installtion type's in Oracle App's.
In many places you may need to wait patiently even more than 10 minutes for screens(Dialog Boxes) to appear dont conclude prematurely some problem on system.
In oracle Apps 11.5.1 it consist of 12 CD's.
    1) Start Here CD(RAPID Installation Wizard)
    2)1-11 CD's
    1-3 Application Top information
    4th Oracle DB
    5-6 IAS and other tools
    7-11 Oracle Apps DB.
You have to decide whether you are going to do a Single Node Installation(No Post-Installation Task) or Multi Node Installation. Refer(r1152ins.pdf)
While installing for Multi Node you can see the Installation locations to be mentioned as
Appl_Top,Common_Top,Data_Top etc.Try to install Appl_top and common_Top in one drive and Data_Top in another Drive(Single Node) and in different nodes in Multi Node installation.

Vision Demo DB: 22 + 35 GB (80 GB recommended).
Plus space for ur staging area.
This are the actuall space required for the Oracle Apps Alone plan for more space for future needs etc.
    Softwares on System
Win2000 server with Patch1,Winzip and Acrobat Reader Latest version etc.
    Install VC++:
Install a clean installtion of VC++ of Visual Studio Family 6.0
It should be first installed before installing MKS or GNUMAKE
NOTE: When Visual C++ is installed, let the installer register all environment variables. This will allow executables to be linked from the command line.
How to Download and install MKS tool Kit:
Note:Try to purchase the MKS tool kit from the below site.
or try to download the trial version valid for a months time.
    http://www.mkssoftware.com/products/tk/ds_tkio.asp
    Evaluation copy from
    http://www.mkssoftware.com/eval/
Choose "MKS Toolkit for Interoperability " Download it in C:\
Again you have to click the downloaded kit to start the actual download of 38 MB of MKS tollkit Evaluation version.
You will be sent a Demo serial number to your mail id==>copy the same to a Notepad on your desktop.
Now start the installtion of the MKSToolkit on your system by clicking on the MKStoolkit downloaded.
It will prompt you for the Demo serial number which has to be provided.
The MKStoolkit will be successfully installed.
How to Download and Configure GNUMAKE:
    1) HOW TO GET AND INSTALL GNUMAKE ON WINDOWS2000
This can be done by performing the following steps:
NOTE: Please, be aware that you must install Visual C++ BEFORE installing GNUMAKE, because its installation process involves linking executables.
    1) Before downloading GNUMAKE, you will need to acquire some utilities which will be used for unpacking files. You can obtain the required utilities at the following
    URL: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/windows/emacs/utilities/i386/
The directory contains the following files:
    README
    djtarnt.exe
    gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe
    gzip-1.2.4-i386.exe
    tar-1.11.2-i386.exe
    tar-1.11.2a.exe
Only two of the files are required:
    gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe and tar-1.11.2a.exe
    2) After downloading the above files, rename them as follows:
    gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe => gunzip.exe
    tar-1.11.2a.exe => tar.exe
Place them into a directory that you can set in you PATH environment variable.
    3) Point your browser to the following
    URL: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/make
The files needed from this directory are:
    make-3.77.tar.gz
    make-3.78.1.tar.gz
    make-3.79.1.tar.gz
    make-3.79.tar.gz
Development requires to install version 3.77 or above. Downloading the latest version is perhaps best decision, but there are advantages to downloading the version required by development (3.77). (This document assumes that version 3.77 has been downloaded) (NOTE: AVOID USING SPACES IN
DIRECTORY AND FILE NAMES. GNUMAKE,VISUAL C++, ETC. DO NOT ALWAYS DEAL WELL WITH SPACES)
    4) For instance, suppose you have downloaded file make-3.77.tar.gz on a directory called C:\GNUMAKE, unpack this file using gunzip.exe from a Command Prompt Window
Example: C:\GNUMAKE>gunzip make-3.77.tar.gz This last action, will expand file make-3.77.tar.gz and the extension .gz will be removed.
    5) On the same Command Prompt Window, you should UnTAR the file, with the following
command: C:\GNUMAKE>tar -xvf make-3.77.tar This will create a new subdirectory called MAKE-3.77 under C:\GNUMAKE, the original directory.
    6) In the new subdirectory, there is a batch file
called build_w32.bat; run the batch file to generate GNUMAKE.EXE
Try this from Command Prompt more than once if succesfully not built message appers till you get Generated successfully.
Note:If Possible run all the bat files in the MAKE-3.77 and also config.bat in the sub directory by double clicking it.
WARNING: There is a known issue with this last step, "GNU make fails to build regardless of chosing build_w32 or nmake"
    See [NOTE:115937.1]
for work around. RELATED DOCUMENTS ----------------- For Microsoft Visual C++, MKS Toolkit and

For Test and Prod it will ask for the location of Appl_Top,Common_Top and Data_Top location. Mention there path and ensure if more than one installtion say eg.Vision and Test or Prod to check the Path in all the tab pages its corresponding values and path's.
In Vision Demo many of the Options are not propmted from the user.
It will then do the system checking for Host Name and other details. All the checking should have been passed or if failed it will mark it in RED cross mark.Rectify the mistake and then onceagain proceed or else you will have problem after installation.
The Installation time takes around 5 to 6 Hrs of time.
For info on Post installation or on Multi Node follow the pdf's i have mentioned above.
The most tedious of all is succesfully crossing the Apps system checking it does for all
installed products it requires without any failure.
The GNUMAKE configuration or steps were nowhere given and it was all our trail and error exp.
This is possibly the most elaborate steps to install Apps on Win. post for further help. email me at [email protected] or [email protected]

  • How to install 11i on Red Hat Linux 64 bit

I'm having problems installing Oracle 11i on Red Hat Linux 64. I understand that it is not supported, however I need to go through the exercise of implementing OATM and then upgrade to 12.
I've started the install and I continue to hit this problem.
Any advise on how to get around this issue. Oracle Support insist on using 32bit. I do have a co-worker that has been able to install it on Red Hat 64bit.

Also make sure you install Install XML Parser since on Windows platforms, Rapid Install requires Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 Service Pack 4 (or later) in order to set up and start services.
    1) Open the Windows Explorer
    2) Navigate to the system root directory (default is C:\winnt\system32).
    3) Right-click msxm13.dll. Select Properties. them click Version.
    4) If XML Parser is not already installed, or if the version on your system is not 3.0 SP4 (or later), go to the following URL and download the Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 SP4 Software Development Kit:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b432cd45-b7ed-4c32-a443-ec56f10ee175&displaylang=en
    5) After installing MSXML 3.0 SP4 SDK, copy msxm12.lib from <Microsoft XML Parser SDK>\lib to <Visual C++/C>\lib, where <Microsoft XML Parser SDK> is the installed location of the MSXML 3.0 SP4 SDK, and <Visual C++/C> is the installed location of Visual C++/C 6.0.
For pre-req software, make sure NOT to install it in a directory that contains spaces and NOT under APPL_TOP

  • Cd rom stuck while install 11i applications

Hello, i'm newbie trying to install oracle 11i applications. I'd passed the prerequisites check but when I try to install and the system asked for RDBMS disk 1 my cd rom stuck. It happens to when I read the oracle CD but not with all other CD. Anyone knows what happened and how to solve it? thx.

Hi, I'd tried to clean the disk but still no luck. My supervisor suggest me to install 11.5.9 version first before he decided to buy another hard drive. I've passed all the prerequisites check, finished the installation but when the system run post-install check it said that JSP Check failed. The error message was like this :
    JSP Check : checking URL = http://localhost.localdomain:8000/OA_HTML/jsp/fnd/fndhelp.jsp?
    dbc=/home/oracle/demoappl/fnd/11.5.0/secure/localhost_demo.dbc

How can I fix that? Do I need to install Oracle Database and J2SE before I try to install Oracle Applications?
When I try to install 11.5.10 version, I tried to restart the installation with command /mnt/cdrom/Disk1/rapidwiz/rapidwiz -restart. The system then ask me to clear my /tmp/RapidInstallation. I cleared the directory and redo the command then it asked me to locate my config file and put the Start Here CD, when I press OK, the system went on but then the installation window disappeared. That left me a question whether can we really restart the installation from the last positon? If yes, what's my mistake?
    Thanks for the answer
