Install 9i on FC3 without p3006854???

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to run Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 on Fedora Core 3, complete with OEM components, without installing patch 3006854? I had gotten everything (listener, dbca, emca, netca, etc.) working without this patch (by manipulating the JRE directories in various places) until I got to the point of starting the Management Server, where I receive the following familiar error:

Could not start management server. Initialization failure
(I say familiar because I've seen several people run across it). The reason I had been trying to avoid the 3006854 patch (though I know it works) is that, after having applied it, I saw several messages like the following on boot:
Mar 1 11:34:28 localhost syslogd: ERROR: ld.so: object '/etc/libcwait.so' from /etc/ld.so.preload cannot be preloaded: ignored.
for various system daemons and this tends to make me a little nervous. Does anyone else running FC3 get these types of messages with this patch? Is there any way to avoid them? I suspect they are harmless but I would just like to have my system in a state such that things like this are not happening. Anyone?
