Install 9ias on win2k qualified hostname

Hi,
I'am trying to install oracle 9ias release 2 on our server, but when doing the installation, it gives the error:
installation detected that a fully qualified hostname has not been specified for this host.....etc
<IP_ADRESS><FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME> <ALIASES>
We have here a DNS server, so I tried also to set in manually in the hostfile, but the same error..
Has somebody experience the same problems? and how can i resolve this?
thanks,
Remco Ploeg

Hi Remco,
the easiest way is adding a line to your hosts file with following structure:
your_ip_addres machine.domain.tld alias
example:
193.2.1.66 this_is.my_ias.com my_ias
beware - you MUST follow this sequence - if you put alias in front of 'fully qualified host name' you'll get the same error again.
By the way - you've probably noticed till now from other discussions that this 'feature' ia s major pain in the ...
good luck,
Ervin!

Yes, obviously you will get this "Error: The requested URL was not found, or cannot be served at this time" as the service is not ready to serve your request.
I never told you to create a TNS Name/service name ........ At the time of installation of the Application Server the Universal Installer creates a service name for Reports Server and stores it in the tnsnames.ora of the 9IAS ORACLE_HOME which is, for eg. c:\iasora\app\oracle\product\9ias\6iserver, but the actual $ORACLE_HOME is c:\iasora\app\oracle\product\9ias\ when you start the reports server it will look in the tnsnames.ora in c:\iasora\app\oracle\product\9ias\6iserver\network\admin folder, when it checks for the service name it will not find it and gives an error.
So for this purpose I asked you to copy the parameter in the Reports c:\iasora\app\oracle\product\9ias\6iserver\network\admin\tnsnames.ora and paste it in c:\iasora\app\oracle\product\9ias\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
Did you edit your $ORACLE_HOME/6iserver/conf/6iserver.conf and specified to process the reports by rwcgi60.

  • Fully Qualified Hostname problem with 9iAS install on WinNT

I am working within a corporate lan and installing 9ias to a Windows NT Sp 6 PC. I am using a fixed ip address and a fixed dns server. Although in the tcp/ip properties, dns tab I specify the hostname (shashi_build) and the domain (optus.com.au) and have an entry in the hosts and lmhosts files (192.168.218.238 shashi_build.optus.com.au shashi_build), the installer keeps coming up with an error message saying:
"Installation has detected that a fully qualified hostname has not been specified for this host. Oracle 91AS installation requires a default domain name to be specified for each host where it is installed. Please consult your operating system instructions for detials on assigning a default domain name. If you are not using a DNS server, then the file c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts must also include a line of the the form:
    <IP_ADDRESS> <FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME< <ALIASES>
After making these changes, please reboot the host and restart the install."
    Unquote.
The use dns for name resolution box is checked on the wins tab. Use lmhosts is checked too.
I even tried using DHCP, but to no effect.
I have ensured that the temp directory has sufficient space, page file is a minimum 1024 mb etc.
Can someone please help urgently? Thanks in anticipation.

This is a big deal. Please search the forum for "fully qualified host name" or "fully qualified domain name." You must get this right at install because you cannot make any changes later.
I made several posts relating to this issue in detail ca. Jan. 2003.

  • Fail to install 9iAS9.0.2-a fully qualified hostname has not be specified

    hello
in order to study oracle9iAS,i download the 9iAS9.0.2 from your website, but at the first disk installation,it tell me:
"installation has detected that a fully qualified hostname has not be specified for this host,oracle9i Application server installation need a default domain name to be specified..........................."
and my host file under "C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc" is as following:
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    # For example:
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
    127.0.0.1 localhost
who can help me to solve the problem?
    thank you

You should enter another ip-address like
    199.999.99.0 hostename.domain
    127.0.0.1 localhost
If you don't intend to publish the website outside your own domain you can use a localdomain If you do want to be able to see the website from outside then you will need a fully qualified internet adress like web.oracle.com.
Try a ping from a commandbox (start > run > cmd) and you can see what adress your machine has now.
If you have windows 2000 SP 3 operating system don't even begin trying to install Portal
Oracle Portal is not working op service pack 3.

  • Error Message When Installing 9iAS

When trying to install Oracle 9iAS on my own PC at home, I get this message after the Installation Types page
"All Oracle9iAS installations on a host must be installed by the same operating system user. The initial Oracle9iAS installation located at c:\oracle\Portal was installed by a different operating system user. Please exit this install, log in as the user who installed the initial Oracle9iAS installation, and restart the install.
I dont't know why I get this error because I don't even have my computer set up for other users than myself. What is going on?
    Thank you,
    Doug McNelly

Search this forum for answers and discussions.
Basically, your machine will need a "fully qualified hostname" e.g. myhostname.mydomain.com, only myhostname is not enough.
Also, AS does not allow the IP to change after install e.g. no DHCP (dynamically allocated IP) allowed!

We are trying to install Oracle 9ias release 2 on windows 2000 system(...)
Did you notice that "Oracle9i Application Server installation requires a default domain name to be specified for each host where it is installed."? Seems as if AS requires both lookup (name) and reverse lookup (ip) to work (with domain names).
Open command prompt and type 'ipconfig /all' and check Host Name and Primary DNS Suffix. (There you should also be able to see if DNS servers are properly configured, if need be.)
After I set c:\WINNT\System32\drivers\etc\hosts File and reboot host, but still have this errorCHow can we solve this problem ? Thanks. That took care of only half of the problem :)

  • EXPERIENCE Installing 9iAS r2 on RH 7.3 or Suse 8 ?

    Hi:
    Anyone have experience installing 9ias r2 on RH7.3 or Suse 8 ?
    I would prefer RH 7.3!
If anyone know the tricks and steps to get it installed please post them here gently :)))
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello
I did a clean install with suse 8.0 . This is my configuration and basic installation steps.
Installed suse8 with pdksh (k shell, will not install by default )and Swap space 1GB
The hostname and IP adrress was in /etc/hosts file (Some shell scripts hardcode IP, Lot of problems when try to change IP address after installation)
Created iasdba group (didnt use the oracle user comes with suse)
Created ias user (made the home directory as /u1/ias , u1 is another mount point or can be a subdirectory under root )
logged in as ias user and set all env variables (created a shell script called set_ias_inf and put everything in it)
Install the infrastructure first (watch for the creation of genclntsh in $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory, as soon as it created from installation , made the following modification in the line starting with SYSLIBS, added the following line after -lc ,
    -lgcc -L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/2.95.3/
Installation completed and all required services started without any problem
To check did http://server:1810 and connect to em with ias_admin and passwd
stop the em from the suse box
    emctl stop
Login as ias and created another shell script called set_ias_as (copied from the previous one and change the ORACLE_HOME to /u1/ias/90200/as for AS installation
Completed the AS installation with everything and did the same change as INF installation
    Select the default character set
    select the instance as instance2
    Completed the installation
    All services started successfully

  • Problem install 9iAS -

    Hi All,
I am trying to install 9iAS (9.0.3) on my win2k Pro machine - and got weird problem.
First time I installed, everything went ok and worked fine. - However, since I have Oracle8i installed before and somehow Toad was screwed after 9iAS installation, I de-installed 9iAS (using Universal Installer come with 9iAS CD)
Weird problem happens ever since - it always pop up error (at 30% of "Setting up Install Types" bar):
All Oracle9iAS installations on a host must be installed by the same operating system user. The initial Oracle9iAS installed at ... was installed by a different operating system user. .....
The problem is that I definetely used same user name (indeed, besides admin, I am the only user who can login to this machine)
    Any suggestions will be appreciated!
    Warren

I cleaned registy many times using regedit (deleted anything related to 9i)- no use
I have 8.1.7 installed, and when install 9ias, error message says there's a previous 9i installation at my 8.1.7 directory (C drive) by different user - not make sense
    because (1) the first time I install 9i, I put 9ihome in D drive. (2) I install 8.1.7 using same username
The only thing changed is the user password to login to my computer. It's really weird.

  • Succes installing 9iAS R2 (release 2) on RedHat Linux 7.3

I had success installing 9iAS release 2 on RedHat Linux 7.3. I used the instructions on http://www.puschitz.com/OracleOnLinux.shtml.
At first, I tried this on RedHat 8.0. Funny thing is: installation of infrastructure failed even though I followed the instructions. Then I downloaded 7.3, followed EXACTLY the same instructions and voila, works like a charm.
Puschitz' instructions are for 9i and not for 9iAS though. Some additions:
    1) One of the pre-installation steps there says to set some environment variables, one of them being the SID. It's set to 'test', but of course with standard settings the sid of the database that comes along with 9iAS has a SID of 'iasdb'.
    2) Also what I did, was to downgrade the binutils package to the version provided by Oracle here: http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/files/binutils_readme.html. As an alternative, Puschitz says to change some makefiles. I didn't try this.
    3) I then installed the infrastructure. When finished, I exited the installation and rebooted. After the reboot:
    4) I changed to the /bin directory and typed (as root):
    ln -s /sbin/fuser
    5) Changed back to user 'oracle' and started the infrastructure with:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus
    connect / as sysdba
    startup
    exit
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oidmon connect=iasdb start
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oidctl connect=iasdb server=oidldapd instance=1 start
    $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
    6) Then started the installer and did the middletier installation. Rebooted.

Following your instructions i've also succesfull installation of ias9iR2 Infrastructure on Redhat7.3. Checked the database Iasdb and Enterprise Manager Website (on http://liminwang:1810), everything works fine. Hence i try to install Portal & Wireless on the same machine on a different Oracle_home (but on the same Oracle_base) according to the installation guide. The installation stuck when i've chosen the Portal and Wireless option. I get a warning that the Enterprise Manager Website Process is still running and it must be stopped to proceed the stallation. So i stopped this process by: $oracle_home/bin/emctl stop
Still i get the same warning. Stopping the database also doesn't help. Even when i deinstalled the Enterprise Manager Website component i get the same warning.
    Please help!

  • Relay Access denied /fully-qualified hostname

    hello guys,
I have made an application that sends emails (with attachments) to different users. It works fine when I use an email account (smtp server) from my network but not otherwise.... Sorry, hit the post button before addressing the other problem. While your getting the DNS problem solved find the guy that is administering the SMTP server and tell him it is not relaying messages for you. He'll probably want to know the address so bring the stack trace with you and show him the 500 series error.

  • Configure Postfix to allow a non fully-qualified hostname to send email

I have a Mushroom Networks Porcini box that sends notifications from email address bbna@bbna
When I set up the Porcini to send notifications to my email address using a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard Server the email session aborts:
    macbookenet:~ pderby$ telnet red.pderby.com 25

    RCPT TO:<[email protected]>
    504 5.5.2 <bbna>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname
I would like to configure Postfix to accept mail from this MAIL FROM address as an exception, rejecting any other addresses that are not fully-qualified.
Is there a way to do that?
    Thanks for any help!

Launch Terminal.app and buried in the usual postconf -n output for your host, you should find this line:
    smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_invalid_helo_hostname reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname
If so, then edit it with the following two lines (that first line is one long line) to tweak that:
    sudo postconf -e "smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_mynetworks reject_invalid_helo_hostname reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname"
    sudo postfix reload
That will cause local hosts (from the mynetworks setting) to bypass the SMTP HELO check that's tripping your "underpowered" box here.

The server has 2 500mhz Pentium Processors.
Actually, I was able to bypass the issue by forcing the OUI to use 1 processer (Note 229478.1), but I am now having issues with the Infrastructure Schema Configuration Assistant. Even though it says it succeeded, the log says otherwise.
