Install a new graphic card. Will it work with my computer.

I have a pavilion a1100y.  I want to upgrade the graphic card.  I purchased a nvidia GeForce 6200 PCI.
When I installed it the computer starts like normal but I can see any open windows on the desk top.
Am I doing something wrong?
Can you help me?

Well, normally the onboard graphics need to be disabled for the new card to work properly and that needs to be done in the BIOS.  I would suggest that to see if it makes things work right.

    Should I try this?
    No.
    It won't work.
Any reason a G5 Graphic card will NOT work
As explained, the G5 uses Open Firmware and the Mac Pro uses EFI.
The ROM of the graphics card is completely different for each of the two machines.
    The cards are not interchangeable.

Yup, wrong part of the forum.
Sven will move it next time he's here.
Pci2pci is a motherboard thing but could interfere with gfx detection.
I know you said you'd reinstalled all drivers but...
Did you get the latest drivers for your motherboard?
If that doesn't fix it I guess the next step would be a complete OS reinstall...

  • Help purchasing / installing a new graphics card

I am looking to buy a new graphics card as mine isnt good. I was told by a friend to get a nvidia gtx 660 (im not good with computer parts and installing stuff) I wanted to be sure that it would be compatable with my computer. My graphics card is a AMD Radeon HD 7560 HD , And my procceser is AMD A8-5500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics.

You need to check a few things...
      1. Do you have an open PCI-e x16 slot on your motherboard?
      2. Does your PC have a Power Supply with 24+ amps on the 12V rail and has a free 6-pin Auxiliary power connector?
If 1. is not true, you are stuck with the integrated graphics.
If 2. is not true and 1 is true, you will need to replace your power supply as well.
Let's see if we can simplify this...
What is the Make/Model of your PC (if it's a pre-built Dell, HP, etc.) or, if it's custom, provide a component list.
Check the power supply for a model number. If you can find it, provide it.

  • Can I put a new graphics card and power supply in my computer.

Hey all, I have the P7-1459 comp and it is good, but i was hoping to maybe give it a gaming boost. But i havent been able to find out if it could handle what i want to do. The new Graphics card would require a 450W power supply and i dont know if this comp could handle it. Anyone know one way or another? Need some help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Joshua, you are very welcome!
I am sorry that I misunderstood your question.  I thought that you wanted to know if the computer would handle the card.
Yes, you can upgrade the power supply unit (PSU).  I suggest measuring the existing PSU and comparing those measurements to the one that you choose.  I like OCZ and Corsair.  They will provide enthusiast quality with a reasonable price.  A good video card requires clean, stable power.  I recommend at least 500W; 550W to 600W would be even better.  This would allow for some future upgrades.  The computer only uses the amount of power needed to run the components.
    I hope this helps.

  • ITunes will not work with my computer.  iMac G3 processor, OS 10.4.11

Original message posted about a week ago - I have an iMac, OS is 10.4.11. I just updated my Quicktime software to 7.5, I also updated my iTunes to 8.2.1 (I think, it is definitely higher than 8.0). When I would open up iTunes. I would get this message. (We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later). This was happening before I did the current downloads. I had no trouble about 3-4 weeks ago. I was able to get into the iTunes store and download song. I am pretty annoyed to say the least. Apple makes it so difficult to get information, unless you do endless searches. Trying to contact customer service is a whole other nightmare. They offer this software for free, yet they want you to pay for everything. As you can imagine, I am not happy and venting is helping. So I am hoping there are some other people out there with similar problems who can help. Nothing has been changed or altered on my computer. I have no problem connecting to the internet. No passwords or ID's have been changed. As mentioned I updated my software to the highest, most current software available that my operating system can handle. So if anyone out there knows what is going on, or can help. Please advise. Thanks, from a very frustrated apple user! You can email me direct too <[email protected]>
Updated message 12/9/10 - I updated my iTunes version to 9.2.1. Now my iTunes will not open. When I do try to open it, It says that this program will only work with G4, and G5 processors. I don't know what to do. I can't afford a new computer right now. Any suggestions???? PLEASE HELP!!I am so frustrated!!! Thanks for your help.

OK - to answer my own question, Apple recommend 8.2.1, but you can install 9.1.1 and it will run on a G3. Very slowly. Looks like this is the only option. Get it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1036. You need OSX 10.4.11 or later though....

  • Installing a NEW Graphics Card?

My mobo is the MS 7411 w integrated graphics and sound [HD 3200].......I will be installing an ATI HD 4670 PCIe............1] do I have to go into the BIOS and change something to PCIe?   2] Do I have to go into Device Manager and tell it to disable present graphics adapter - prior to install?   3] I already have the latest [9.6] ATI drivers installed ....... since they both use the same drivers, I was wondering/hoping that I do not have to mess with the BIOS and could just install NEW card and then re-boot and the system would auto disable onboard graphics adapter and I would be in business.
PLEASE advise......as to right and wrongs here and................
    TKS   michael

Once you install the video card with the monitor attached it should default and work. Then in Bios you should be able to turn off onboard video and use the card. You can also check the Bios setting for video setting on PCI-e, PCI. Device Manager has nothing to do with your install or disconnecting of your onboard video. If you disable it in Device Manager it will reinstall as hardware found when you reboot. Just for FYI, if you were to install another 3000 series card you might be able to CrossFire with your onboard video, but with the 4000 series card you are better off using the card alone.
    Good luck.

  • Problem Installing my new graphic card 760GTX Stucks on HP Splash Screen

I'm using a h9-1185 Windows 7 and I thought I'd update my graphic card from a 7870 to GTX 760 but that was easier said than done. When I try to boot my computer with the new card it stays at the hp splash screen. The GPU is correctly installed I have both cables connected to the PSU. The fans are running properly It's just that I get stuck on the loading screen when I use the gtx 760. I can't press any keys to go to the boot menu, etc. After sitting at the screen for 5 minutes it changes to a black sreen showing at the corner the brand of my Graphic Card (760 PNY etc....) but nothing happens.
When I changed it back to the old graphic card Sapphire 7870, it didn't freeze or anything. It worked fine. I was trying to update my BIOS but I think i have the latest update (v7.09).
Maybe my english isn't good at all, sorry about that.

    John, welcome to the forum.
Did you install the latest driver for the new video card?  This must be done for it to work properly.
Also, when you have the new card and driver installed, I suggest clearing the CMOS:
This motherboard has a jumper to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS.
Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.
Move the jumper to clear for 5 to 10 secs, then move the jumper back to default.
Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer.
On the next startup, enter BIOS setup to re-enter user settings.

  • I have Numbers 2.3 installed on my IMac and have created several spreadsheets when I try to open the latest one I get a message "You need a newer version to open this spreadsheet. Do have to buy the new one and will it work with my OS - 10.8.5?

Do I have to purchase the new Numbers to replace my version 2.3 in order to open spreadsheets already created? Will the new version work with my OS  -  10.8.5?

If you are running Mavericks, and the Mac App store says you are up to date, then you have Numbers 3.2 as well as Numbers 2.3. You are getting the "Need a newer version message because your Mac is trying to open the document using Numbers 2.3.
Launch Numbers 3, then open the document from within that app, or right click/control-click the document and choose Open with Numbers 3.x.

  • Is it possible to install a new Graphics Card ??

Hi - I would like to use Aperture 2, however, it looks like my Graphics Card is too old, and is not supported.
I think my Graphics Card is the following: GeForce FX Go5200
Is it possible to upgrade this ??
    Thanks

Hi, Fantong. No, it isn't possible to upgrade the graphics capabilities of any Powerbook. The GPU and VRAM are soldered to the logic board. And you're correct in thinking your Powerbook doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Aperture 2. I'm afraid you'll have to upgrade to a newer, more powerful Mac or use a different software package.

Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers.
Is this the ASUS GTX 770 graphics card in question?
You need to ask ASUS if the ASUS GTX 770 will run in a non-ASUS motherboard that has a non-UEFI BIOS.

  • Got new iPhone 5 won't work with my computer because I don't have snow leopard.  Which cannot be purchased anywhere in town!  Is this seriously the only solution so that my phone will sync with my computer?

When I plug in my new iPhone 5 to sync with my computer it tells me I need iTunes 7.  I tried to download it, but it will not load on my computer because I need a software upgrade to 10.6.8, which from what I understand is a paid upgrade to snow leopard.  I cannot find it anywhere!  All of our stores that sell Apple products do not carry it anymore.  My computer is a MacBook I bought in late August 2008, the ONLY thing wrong with it after all these years is this particular problem.  I thought Apple products were superior because of their long life in comparison to other computers, why would Apple shorten the lifespan of its product by no longer supporting it with software??

10.6 Snow Leopard will run on any Intel mac. So that's any Mac made in the last 6 years. Snow Leopard came out in July 2009 and only cost $29. So you had over 3 years to have upgraded your MacBook.
You're willing to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a new phone but not the $29 in the last three years to have upgraded your OS on your MacBook.
The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

  • Two brand new Isight cameras won't work with my computer!@!!= ARGH!!!!!!!!!

The first Isight I bought had some stuck pixels and was returned to apple for a new Isight. The new camera worked for a couple of days then screwed up the video with ichat and skype. Worked OK with Quicktime, Imovie, Quicktime Broadcast although it locked up like the first camera did when recording on native resolution in QT.
I hope my experience hasn't been typical of the Isight camera.
Why would it work with quicktime/imovie/quicktime broadcast but refuse to provide decent video to ichat or skype even after formatting and reinstalling everything. Why then would it work ok on a macbook with no problems but not work on an Ibook? Why would a firewire camcorder have no problems using any of the programs but then run into problems using an Isight camera?

  • New GTX 590 - Will it work with CS5 Hack?

I have just been reading some of the reviews for the new GTX 590. It has two GPUs on one card. I was wondering whether CS5 hacked would this as one GPU and work faster than a 580, or only use half the power of the card. Thanks Roman

DO NOT get a GTX 590 for Premierew Pro CS5 usage!
I inquired with one of our nVidia forum members but got no answer.  But here is a response from EVGA:
"Dear Customer,  Thank you for contacting the EVGA Customer Service Team. My name is Matthew Hurwitz and I will be answering your question today.
Answer:  Bill, Since the program doesnt support SLI you are correct that you would be paying full price to use half a card. A single 580 would be faster and cheaper for such a program. Regards, EVGA
Question:  Thanks much for the quick answer. Yes MPE requires CUDA. Since Adobe Premiere does not support SLI the 590 is problably not going to be compatible with Adobe's MPE or would be a waste of money if it could only use half the board."
So yes it would work but it would cost much more and be less fast than a EVGA 580 (ckeck the clocks the 580's run faster than the 590's) not that I have been able to find any PPBM5 difference between my superclocked  580 (797 MHz) and an extreme overclocked 580 at 1275 MHz (see below)..
