Install a Router with IP Masquerading over ISDN

hi aLL
I want to use my Solaris 8 mashine as a router, to connect all my other computer to the internet and share one isdn line. for that i have to install my isdn card. its a very popular AVM Fritz! Card PCI. but i could not find a driver for it. i went to sun HCL. i only found 2 compatible isdn card in the list, a Digi International Digi Datafire-Ua and Digi Datafire S/T[a]. I tryed to get more infomation of this two cards but i found nothing. only a card with another name : DataFire PRIme. This one has Solaris Drivers but is not in the HCL list of Solaris 8
Does anyone knows about an isdn Card wich works unter Solaris, or know how to make a Router under Solaris ?
I know there are ISDN Modem connected with a serial cable to com 1 or 2. may they work ?
in half a year i want to use DSL. Does anyone has experience with DSL on Solaris ??? I know i need PPPoE.
Thanx Siegfried

The other threads seem to be showing ICMP deprioritzation, not packet loss
pinging only one host makes it pretty tough to see if there is actual loss or just deprioritization which more common
can you provide a traceroute that shows the packet loss as well to confirm?

  • Installing WRT160N Router

I spent hours trying to install a new WRT160N router. I was able to remove error code 323 when I was able to reset the router to factory settings ONCE. Now I can't get the router to reset to factory settings so the error code won't go away. When I was able to get past the error code 323 the router would stop configuring with error code 302. How do I get past both error codes and get the router installed on my computer? I am running windows xp. Thanks for your help.

Don't install the router with the set-up disk, you can do a manual set-up...

Did you try it with the iTunes your Mac already has?
Try running Software Update in your System Preferences.  That should bring your computer up to the latest software available for 10.4.  You would end up with an older version of iTunes, but that may be good enough to activate your iPad.

  • Switch 886 VA router modem to Annex B (German T-Com VDSL over ISDN)

    Hi,
I'm using a 886 VA router to connect to T-COM Germany VDSL. Unfortunately, german T-COM are using VDSL over ISDN, so I have to switch the modem to ANNEX B. Initial setup of the modem is ANNEX A. I can hardly find any documentation for it. Did anybody do that before?
    Cheers,
    Werner

You have the right model and should be able to use Annex B using IOS indicated in the following document:

  • Backup problem with Time Capsule over Router

    Hello fellas,
I am facing a back up problem with my TC(2TB) with Time machine. When I try to back up it gets stuck at "preparing backup". However when i directly connect to it via its own wifi, everything works like a charm. I even erased older back ups and created a new one. When I, however, switch back to the router setting (TC connected to a Router and me connecting over wifi) I still do see the erased backup on the right side. When I try accessing them, I get a black window where I should be seen a mirror of the desktop. I can manually (over Finder) add and erase files in the TC. The TC does pick IP and is active.
I did verify and repair the TC.(Permission tab was grey)
    OS 10.9.5
    TC version: 7.7.3
Hope you guys can help me.

Mavericks has a lot of issues with networking.. And it effects TM and the TC more than most things.
Apple finally fessed up there was some issues.
OS X Mavericks: Time Machine problems
Let me recommend you follow exactly the same list as in this thread.
I just updated Safari 7.1 and OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 now my Time Machine is not backing up and I don't know how to fix it.
In your situation there is a couple of other things to add.
Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only.
I am not sure how your router is handling ipv6 or bonjour for that matter.. both are necessary to have TM work.
    If that doesn't solve it..
Use Finder to force the connection to the TC to AFP protocol.
From top menu, Go, Connect to Server.
Type AFP://TCgenx.local (where you replace TCgenx with your nice new short name). local is the default domain in the TC and it can help to specify as your router is probably using a different domain.
Even better is to use the TC IP address.. but it has to be static.. so you will need to set it by dhcp reservation in the main router.
AFP://192.168.0.100 (replace with the actual TC IP you can get it from the summary screen in airport utility but must be static).
If you still have issues post back more details.
What router are you using make and model?
If it is not apple compatible it may simply never work.. some routers do not handle specific apple protocols like airplay or bonjour and this affects how it works with TM.

    Arguably, they're both right.
Changing your router changes everything, so your best course of action is to research the respective printer's documentation and determine how to reset them to factory default condition. Then, add them again using System Preferences > Print & Scan.
For that, I recommend you first "reset the printing system" according to these instructions: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Its instructions for Lion are identical to those for Mountain Lion.
As the article states, it will remove all your existing printers, leaving the Mac's printing system in a similar "factory default" condition ready for you to create a new print queue for each printer, which you should probably do.
Apple's printing support documents contain a great deal of redundancy, but this one may be a good place to start: OS X Mountain Lion: Set up a printer to print wirelessly

  • How To Use Your Own Router with Out Loosing Verizon's FIOS Services

How to use your own router with Verizon’s FIOS Service
First, you need a basic understanding of how FIOS works but unfortunately there are two types of FIOS systems out there. All of the systems utilize a fiber optic cable to bring TV, phone and internet to your location over one optic cable. In addition these systems provide interactivity including widgets, remote DVR, movies on demand and so forth via an IP (Internet Protocol) signal.  Your STB (Set Tip Box) requires both a video and IP signal. The IP signal is necessary for all of the aforementioned interactivity.  The fiber cable terminates at the Optical Network Terminal or ONT for short.  The ONT converts the optics into a digital signal that can be utilized by ones equipment.  From the ONT your video, phone and internet are provided to the location.  This is where things can differ as the internet signal can be provided via a coaxial (MoCA or Multimedia over Coax Alliance) or RJ45 Cat5 (Ethernet) cable.  It is important to identify and understand the differences of these two setups.  In my case I have my internet entering via Ethernet cable, which in my humble opinion makes things a heck of a lot easier.
How does one tell the difference? In most cases it’s rather simple; just look at the Verizon’s router WAN (Wide Area Network) Port.  Does it have a RJ45 (Ethernet) or Coax (TV cable Cord) going to it? If the router’s WAN port doesn’t have a coaxial connector then one will need to convert the MoCA signal into a usable Ethernet signal that routers understand. The easiest way is to use Verizon’s router as a bridge. In this method the Verizon’s router simply converts the signal and passes it along to your own router. The challenge is to try to maintain the interactivity that FIOS TV provides. Because of this one needs to supply the IP routed signal back to the FIOS router.  There are multiple methods for doing this and I would recommend investigates which one make the most sense.
In my particular case the IP signal was provided by Ethernet.  Again there are various ways of installing one’s own router. The hardest is to utilize Verizon’s router as a bridge.  This setup requires configuring Verizon’s router as a bridge and also creating a VLAN (Virtual Local Area Networks). In addition one needs to set up their own router so it will work with the various routing tables and networks. For me this is too complex for the average person and it can be difficult to trouble shoot if something goes wrong. Please consider that Verizon will not support utilizing third party routers.
The easier method is to request an Ethernet signal (if you don’t already have one) from their ONT.  I would highly recommend getting your hands on a NIM or Network Interface Module. This device is used to convert Ethernet to Coaxial so it can be fed back to your STBs.  These can be purchased online and Verizon technicians can be a valuable resource with these sorts of acquisition.  At the very least they can point you to the right direction.  Once you have a NIM the rest is rather simple.
Log into the current Verizon Router.
Located the router’s MAC address and copy it down.
Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
    Example:
    Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward:  Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.
Look at your current device list, typically found on the home screen. Copy down your STB MAC and IP address.
    Example:
    IP-STB1
    Connection Type: Ethernet
    * IP Address: 192.168.1.100
    IP Address Allocation: DHCP
    *MAC Address:                07:73:fFe:ad:8b:3f
    * Things you will need to write down
Go to the network section and look for the main Ethernet connection.  Select this and then select more setting, typically found at the bottom. Release the current lease.
    Remove the Verizon router
    Install your router
Connect the NIM by plugging in an Ethernet from one of the routers LAN (Local Area Network) ports to your NIM. Then connect the coax cable, the same cable that was used by Verizon router.
Set you DHCP routing IP pool to accommodate Verizon’s STB IP’s  (note their IP’s start at 192.168.1.100)
Go to DHCP section and reserve the STB IP’s by inserting the IP’s and MAC addresses. This shall ensure that nothing else utilizes the same IPs as the STBs thereby preventing IP address conflict.
Add the port forwards from Step 5 above.
Clone Verizon’s Mac Address utilizing the info from step 2
Finish setting up the router in typical fashion.
Unplug and re-plugin your STB’s and test functionality.  It’s best to try using a widget or Movie on demand function.
Note: if the new router can net get an internet signal contact Verizon’s support and have them release the IP and reset the ONT.
EVERYTHING should be working at this point.

3 Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
    Example:
    Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward:  Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.G
Your display obviously is not like mine as mine does not dosplay the port associated with the ip address
whatever, the STB's start at 192.168.1.100 and icement by 1 for each
the port addr's will be 63145 alo incrementing by 1
there is 1 entry for each in my pf list
however each ip addr also has a port entry starting at 35000 also incrementing by 1 for each ip addr
For some unknow reason these are duplicated e.g I appear to have 11 entries exaactly the same for each stb and as the fios services rules have no action switc there is nowhere to delete the extraneous garbage.
Why do you clone the mac addr??

  • 800-ADSL over ISDN ISDN-features

    Hello,
has anyone experiences with the BRI at the 800 ADSL over ISDN Routers (like 836).
I wonder what's the difference between the feature sets.
OOB-Management and Dial-Backup over ISDN is described in the Datasheet as feature of the 'IP/FW/IPSec-3DES-PLUS-Dial-Backup' IOS only, but in my tests it seems that the BRI is a fully functionaly routed Interface in all feature sets.
I think there is no more need to buy another ISDN-Router like 801 or 803 when I have full ISDN connectivity at the ADSLoISDN-Routers with standard feature set. And with the 'DMZ-Ethernet' feature I have even a secondary routed Ethernet-port and there is no more need to buy a 831.

I the 836 Datasheet (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/routers/ps380/products_data_sheet09186a008014ee18.html) you can see that the default featureset already has firewall and VPN features ('IP/FW/IPSec 3DES default feature set') even if it is called CISCO836-K9-64 (Cisco 836 ADSL over ISDN Router-64MB) in the Cisco-pricelist.
I hope that's the same with the 876 which is called CISCO876-K9 (ADSLoISDN Security Router) in the pricelist.

  • PPP Callback over ISDN failure - user not authorised

Hi,I'm still a rookie with Cisco and in need of help: Have a MS XP PC dialing into 803 over ISDN, successfully connecting if 803 config'd for Callback optional (no callback secure) but failing for callback secure with log message "Callback not authorized for this user Support". and despite reading up on PPP callback configs from the RemoteAccess Selfstudy guide, IOS DialTechnologiesConfig, and various examples I am unable to find what I'm doing wrong in the configs. Attached is file with router SW version, debugs used for logging, the active config, and the log. I have edited router name, usernames, and telnr for security reasons.
    Regards
    Zet

    Hi,
thanks for your advice. I've tried it with the same failure results as before.
Also tried setting up 2 1720s with Image ver 2.3(9)Rel(fc2) according to cisco sample doc "Config PPP Callback over ISDN" (isdn-ppp-callback.pdf) even tried PAP instead of CHAP - same result: authenticates user ok but fails callback. If the client is router server reports "no callback config for user ..." and if client is PC " callback not authorized for this user ..."
Have got the 1720 logs for server & client routers if you require.
Where else would it look to, to identify the client as callback, the global username declaration makes sense, according to Command Guide it looks like "dialer callback-server username" references the interface command "dialer map ip .... We've now tried both, neither working. I am truly at a loss here, any ideas?

  • Pre requisites for installing SAP Router

    Hi Friends,
As i am going through the implementation phase, I have to install sap router which i am new at. Also i am doing it because i have to connect Maintenance Optimizer to Sap service Market place for which Router would be essentially required.
I have some questions to put forth.
    1. what are the pre requisites for SAP Router
    2. Do we require Public IP and what would be the use of this ip
    3. how to configure the SAP Router
    4. Can i install the SAP router on the same host on which we have Solution manager, is it advisable. or we should go for a seperate host.

Installing the sapcrypto library and starting the SAProuter
    Contents
u2022     Downloading necessary software components from SAP Service Marketplace
    u2022     Creating the certificate request
u2022     Additional actions necessary before you can start saprouter
This section describes the necessary steps to download and install the sapcrypto library for use with saprouter. The saprouter must be started with the options described later in this section.
The license for the sapcrypto library covers  saprouter connections between saprouters at SAP and the first saprouter on customer sites and backend connections within the customer`s network. For all other purposes the library CANNOT be used!
Downloading necessary software components from SAP Service Marketplace
    1.     Login to the SAP Service Marketplace with the Service Marketplace USERID which is assigned to your installation.
    2.     Change to the alias SAPROUTER-SNCADD. Before you can download the software components two preconditions must be met.
         a.     You must have been allowed to download the software. This authorization is added as soon as SAP has received a positive statement from the "Bundesausfuhramt". This procedure is necessary since the software falls under EU regulations.
         b.     For more information on how to obtain authorization if download is not possible see note 397175.
         c.     You must accept that you must follow the regulations imposed by the EU on the use and distribution of the cryptographic software components downloaded from the SAP Service Marketplace.
    3.     The acceptance of the terms and conditions is logged with your USERID and stored for reporting purposes to the "Bundesausfuhramt".
    4.     Accepting with the button on the web-based form takes you to the folder where you can download the Software components.
These are packed into a single CAR file sapcrypto.car
    5.     Copy the file to the direcory where the saprouter executable is located
    6.     You can get the file car.exe/sapcar.exe, which is necessary to unpack the archive from any Installation Kernel CD.
Executing the command car -xvf SAPCRYPTO.CAR will unpack the following files:
    [lib]sapcrypto.[dll|so|sl]
    sapgenpse[.exe]
    ticket
    Creating the certificate request
    1.     As user <snc>adm set the environment variables
    SECUDIR = <directory_of_saprouter>
    2.     Change to the Shortlink SAPROUTER-SNCADD. From the list of SAProuters registered to your installation, choose the relevant "Distinguished Name"
    3.     Generate the certificate Request with the command
    sapgenpse get_pse -v -r certreq -p local.pse "<Your Distinguished Name>"
    4.     Alternatively use the two commands:
    sapgenpse get_pse -v -noreq -p local.pse "<Your Distinguished Name>"
    sapgenpse get_pse -v -onlyreq -r certreq -p local.pse
    5.     Display the output file "certreq" and with copy&paste insert the certificate request into the text area of the same form on the SAP Service Marketplace from which you copied the Distinguished Name
    6.     In response you will receive the certificate signed by the CA in the Service Marketplace, cut&paste the text to a local file named srcert
    7.     With this in turn you can install the certificate in your saprouter by calling
    sapgenpse import_own_cert -c srcert -p local.pse
    8.     now you will have to create the credentials for the SAProuter with the same program (if you omit -O <user>, the credentials are created for the logged in user account)
    sapgenpse seclogin -p local.pse -O <user_for _saprouter>
    9.     This will create a file called cred_v2 in the same directory.
For increased security please check that the file can only be accessed by the user running the SAProuter.
Do not allow any other access (not even from the same group)!
On UNIX this will mean permissions being set to 600 or even 400!
On NT check that the permissions are granted only to the user the service is running as!
    1.     Check if the certificate has been imported correctly
    sapgenpse get_my_name -v -n Issuer
The name of the Issuer should be: CN=SAProuter CA, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE
    2.     If this is not the case, delete the files cred_v2, local.pse and start over at Item 4.  If the output still does not match please open a customer message in component XX-SER-NET-OSS stating the actions you have taken so far and the output of the commands
    4.,7.,8. and 10.
Additional actions necessary before you can start saprouter
    1.     The environment variable SNC_LIB needs to be set for the user account SAProuter is running under.
    SNC_LIB has the form
    UNIX      <path_to_libsecude>/<name_of_sapcrypto_library>
    Windows NT, Windows 2000     <drive>:\<path_to_libsecude>\<name_of_sapcrypto_library>
    2.     Check if the environment of the user running saprouter contains the environment variable SNC_LIB
    UNIX     printenv
    Windows NT     System environment variable
    3.     start the saprouter with the following command line:
    saprouter -r -S <port> -K "p:<Your Distingushed Name>"
-K tells the saprouter to start with loading the SNC library
the corresponding file ./saprouttab should contain at least the following entries
    inbound connections MUST use SNC
    KP "p:CN=sapserv2, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE" <your_server1> <port_number>
repeat this for the servers and port_numbers you will need to allow,
please make sure that all explicit ports are inserted in front of a
    generic entry '*' for port_number
outbound connections to <sapservX> will use SNC
    KT "p:CN=sapserv2, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE" <sapservX> <sapservX_inbound_port>
permission entries to check if connection is allowed at all
    P <IP address of a local host> <IP address of sapserv2>
all other connections will be denied
    D  * * *
    Example
For a SNC encrypted connection to the SAPRouter on sapserv2 (194.39.131.34), the saprouttab should contain the following entries:
    SNC-connection from and to SAP
    KT "p:CN=sapserv2, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE" 194.39.131.34 *
SNC-connection from SAP to local R/3-System for Support
    KP "p:CN=sapserv2, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE" <R/3-Server> <R/3-Instance>
SNC-connection from SAP to local R/3-System for NetMeeting, if it is needed
    KP "p:CN=sapserv2, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE" <R/3-Server> 1503
SNC-connection from SAP to local R/3-System for saptelnet, if it is needed
    KP "p:CN=sapserv2, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE" <R/3-Server> 23
Access from the local Network to SAPNet - R/3 Frontend (OSS)
    P <IP-addess of a local PC> 194.39.131.34 3299
    deny all other connections

you cant connect a isdn modem to it.

There is a lot of documentation for that same error all over the web I was having the same trouble a while back with no relation to isdn at all. I was never able to pin it down. It was fixed with a reinstall.
You might want to do a 'google' on that error message and do a search on it at MS site too. Maybe with isdn in the search string too.
Make sure you have all your drivers for the motherboard updated, chipset etc...
As well as the driver for the modem itself. ISDN being a technology that is somewhat on the way out the door is receiving less and less support from the Manufacturers. Are your Modem drivers for XP specifically ? There is a good chance that a Win9.x driver would not work properly.
I had ISDN for a couple years. It was better than regular dialup but overall it was a major pain in the arse. Partially becuase the modem I had was a junkie one. It plugged up to serial. Thereby limiting my max speed to 115 instead of the possible 128.  It was very sensitive to port settings and the like. Was too dadgummed expensive too.
Good Luck, Hope I helped a lil.

I installed the current Bonjour printer services software on the Windows machine, and separately installed the driver software for the Epson printer on the WIndows machine.  Running the bonjour wizard, I get an alert saying 'I don't have sufficient access to my computer to connect to the selected printer'.
The printer has 'sharing' turned on from the Mac end; this works with a Powerbook via the wireless connection.  Sharing is also turned on in the Windows printer control panel for this printer (under properties).  The Mac is a G5 running 10.5.8.  When I try to print a page from the Windows machine it gets hung in the print queue.
Any advice how to proceed would be appreciated!

Any advice how to proceed would be appreciated!
    thx,

  • Having trouble setting up a linksys WRT54GS router with v...

Having trouble setting up a linksys WRT54GS router with verizon DSL using a westell 6100F modem. the modem works fine by its self  but the router will not connect  to the internet when installed like the cd tells you to.
online help and phone help has been less than helpful,  anyone have any Ideas?

Ok I found " Installing the liksys wireless router with a westell 6100 modem" in the verizon troubleshooting guides. printed the instructions so I would'nt forget. step 1 open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field.  PROBLEM it comes up with a login screen that I don't know how to sign into. tried the obvious stuff. cannot get past the login screen. I knew this sounded to easy to be true. anyone have any ideas?
