Install Application + Standalone task media

Hi
I am trying to image a Lenovo Tablet 2 using standalone media and it fails everytime it gets to the part of installing the applications. It says that the application must be installed in the full OS. Is this a pre-req for all SCCM 2012 applications deployed
as part of any method of task sequence. Do I always need a reboot to OS step before installing apps?
Thanks

Hi,
Yes you need a reboot to OS step before installing applications, even if you run scripts and so on, otherwise they will run in the WinPE context and not much an installer can do there. So the TS must have applied the image and rebooted to the full OS.

  • Install Applications in task sequence - fails if there is no source

I found an odd issue in SCCM 2012 SP1.  I have many applications that install perfectly when deployed.  There is no source for the application because it is a network based install, and needs to be.  If I try to add the application to the
"Install Application" method in a task sequence, it looks successful.  But then re-edit the task sequence and it will tell you there is an issue with the "Install Application" method.  The app will not install when you run the
task sequence either.  If you then add a content folder to the application, it works like a charm.
In the meantime, I am providing a dummy content location for these apps so I can get things running.  But has anyone run into this?  Seems so odd that task sequences don't like apps without content.

These are Autodesk application installs.  When the deployments are built, they are built to a network location and INI files are generated with paths in them.  In the past, I manually edited these files to use local relative pathing, so they
could be used as content, downloaded to the system, and executed locally by SMS.  I found issues with install Source locations though (yes, even with using SCCM's built in source control), that made me really want to change the INI's back to network locations,
so now there is no more need for content.
I will have to look into the DCR.

  • Installing applications to SD card

Can anyone tell ne how to install or move applications to the SD Card

I have not used Aerize since it first came out, so I don't recall if the instructions actually state to "intall" the application on your Media Card, or rather, "move" or "put" the install (*.jad) file on the Media Card, but the latter is the case.
You simply can't install applications to the Media Card. You can put "installation files" on the Media CArd.

  • New Applications model DOES NOT work with StandAlone OSD media

If you are able to create StandAlone OSD media, the new Applications model DOES NOT work with it.
    - The creation of the media will be successful
    - The application installation itself will be successful
Yet after the application is installed, it shows the correct process it needs to complete based on the return code in AppEnforce log, but does not process that information back to the the TS Manager so it appears to attempt to download a policy which fails
causing the task sequence to error out..
    Thanks,
    Squirre1

It is very similar to this description:
    http://madluka.wordpress.com/2012/05/15/error-0x8000405-when-installing-applications-to-a-workgroup-system-during-build-and-capture-task-sequence/
It is using the application model, since it is not attached to the domain it is on a workgroup. But it is on standalone media and not during a build and capture sequence, it is during an OSD. But alot of the same puzzle pieces fit. Basically pointing to
the new applications model not working during standalone OSD when the MP is not available. i would say that not enough information is getting encapsulated into the Application when exported onto the StandAlone media.

  • Installing "Applications" during the task sequence and installation enforcement

    Hello,
Kind of a weird question here, so it seems like I'm seeing that if you install an application on a system during its OSD task sequence, then you later manually uninstall that application, that SCCM considers that system now out of compliance?
And then reinstalls the application as indicated in AppEnforce.log?  Is this true?  If so, how do you get around this behavior?  I guess I thought that this application compliance only took effect when you actually deploy an application to a
system, through an actual deployment.  I didn't realize that it would enforce compliance even if an application was installed during a task sequence.  So if you have hundreds of systems that were imaged with the same task sequence and you have
a small handful of machines that can't have application X on it (so you want to uninstall it), which was installed via the task sequence, how do you disable this compliance enforcement and disable its automatic reinstall?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sorry for the delayed response, thank you both for your input.  To answer both your questions, no these workstations do not have any required deployments for this application directed at them.  I have confirmed that, however, they do have
the OSD task sequence deployment (that contains this application) constantly "available" to them (via only "media and PXE") as this makes it very easy for our technicians to reimage any machine whenever they need to (love that feature
    by the way).
I can only assume that because they still have this task sequence deployment pointed at them is why they continue to attempt to reinstall this application when ConfigMgr finds that it's not installed anymore.  In fact it does it at the same day/time
each week, which I believe is the same day/time of the week that the machines were imaged.  I must have the compliance part of the clients configuration to check every 7 days for stuff like this?  Anyway, that's my conclusion for now.
Since even Wally Mead felt that this must be an actual required deployment outside of the task sequence I'm really curious to see if anyone else sees this behavior.  It would be fairly simple to attempt to recreate, image a machine with a task sequence
that has "application" installs included, where the deployment for it is just "available" and keep the deployment "available" after the machine is reimaged.  Then after that, uninstall one of the apps that was installed
during the task sequence via an "application" and then see if it reinstalls automatically, it may wait a while (may 7 days by default?).  You can see the evidence of our application reinstalling itself in the "AppEnforce.log".
Is it even remotely possible that this is a new "feature" or behavior of ConfigMgr 2012 and "Applications"?

Two workarounds below (Not acceptable solutions)
*I can add a pause script after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr sequence, wait 5-10 minutes and the applications will install. I assume this is because the CM client has time to fully provision.
    * I can add the anon ‘IUSR’ account to the local administrators group on the DP and all applications install (without the pause script mentioned above). I can reproduce the issue repeatedly by removing and adding the anon account.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated…
Also, I come from a CM 2007 background and somewhat new to CM 2012. Should WebDAV and/or URL Authorization be installed and configured on the DP? According to MS tech support “No”. However, I’ve seen several SCCM 2012 guides on the web that say it should
    be installed.

  • KB2918614 Breaks MDT2012 Update 1 Task Sequence "Install Application" Items on Windows 7 deployments

    Consider the following scenario:
You have a WDS deployment environment for your enterprise running on Windows Server 2008 R2.
You use MDT 2012 Update 01 to create a Windows 7 Task Sequence for workstation deployment.
The task sequence has an "Install Application" task to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 RU4 MP1b.
You either refresh your reference build to incorporate KB2918614 or you publish the update via WSUS and use the Install Updates task in the task sequence prior to the "Install Application" task to install the hotfix.
In this scenario, the "Install Application" task starts but never completes. The Symantec installation executable is never called and does not show up in Task Manager. All subsequent "Install Application" tasks exhibit the same behavior.
No error messages are generated. Eventually the Task Sequence itself times out and moves on to the next task.
If you remove update KB2918614 from your reference build or unapprove it from your WSUS server, all "Install Application" tasks in the task sequence execute correctly.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issues with deployments? My hunch is that the problem is not specific to the application being installed, and it may also be a problem for environments using SCCM to install Windows 7. I have not had a chance to explore
this more, so I kept my scenario to the facts that I have directly observed.
    Thanks,
    Rick Reuling
    Walker IT Group, LLC

Quite the few incorrect assumptions, but thank you for your input. I disagree with your methodology and irrelevant conclusions.
Problem is quite clearly seen under easily reproducible conditions, which according to your description was not correctly proscribed. No one ever said the patch did not install correctly.
Whether the root cause is that mainstream third party applications are utilizing Microsoft solution accelerator proscribed methods that a privately reported vulnerability implicated as harmful; and thus the aforementioned patch changed the
expected behaviour to the detriment of mainstream certified applications in an unattended environment is at fault is up for discussion. Jamal's experience implicates the overall method in not only MDT but also SCCM so there stands a reasonable chance
that the problem exhibits on a further scale beyond the MDT environment.
However, as has been documented on a real world basis in the context of actual running environments (in which many do indeed still run Windows 7, much to all our chagrin and your self-declared shock) the issue still exists, and we must decline
your proposed solution as being appropriate to the described scenario. Your response clearly does not duplicate nor even attempt to recreate the problem space, If you had read clearly you would have seen we had already inserted a reboot in between the Windows
Update step in the TS and the "Install Application" step. Of course there are many other potential variables, hence why one should be quite careful about declaring an explicit problem or an explicit solution.
I believe Mike Niehaus clearly indicated the next step, and Jamal has confirmed the immediate workaround. I will encourage my clients to raise the issue through their EA channel.
    Regards,
    Rick

  • "The task sequence has been suspended. LiteTouch is trying to install applications. This cannot be performed in Windows PE."

MDT 2012 Server is up and running. I mistakenly deleted a Task Sequence step called "Install Application" that I thought was not needed (I know I should have disabled it and tested).
I have a problem now, when I went to image a computer I did not get application list (This used to work before I deleted the above TS step) with items to check and uncheck for installation.  "Install Application" TS was readded but now when I try to
    image I get this error:
"The task sequence has been suspended. LiteTouch is trying to install applications. This cannot be performed in Windows PE."
I've tried moving it to different positions on the list (Higher and lower) to no avail, I always get the same error. Please advise.
    -Thanks in advance!

On the computer you are deploying to "the client", boot into WindowsPE just like you are going to image and before you authenticate or
get any dialogue boxes, press F8 in WindowsPE to get command prompt and type the following:
    diskpart
    list disk
    select disk 0
    list part
    select part 1
    clean
    create part primary
    assign
    active
    exit
Please mark this as the answer if it works.
You are awesome this worked for me I didn't see how I was going to get my new computer to reimage again Thank you sooooooooooooo much!!!

  • Install application step on task sequence - application does not appear in the application list

    Hi,
I am trying to create a build and capture task sequence and add some application installation steps in the process.
On Install the following applications step when I click the star to choose which applications I want to install, Office 2010 application is not listed there, even though it is available in software library
and and I've been installing it successfully from application catalog.
I tried changing the setting "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence action instead of deploying it manually", but it had no effect.

    See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846237.aspx:
The applications that are installed must meet the following criteria:
It must run under the local system account and not the user account.
It must not interact with the desktop. The program must run silently or in an unattended mode.
It must not initiate a restart on its own

  • "Applications Installed" tab - Is it possible to fill list from "Install Application" task sequence?

    Hello!
I am using Configuration Manager 2012 with MDT 2012 Update 1.
All of my application installations are done via the "Install Application" task sequence step (some as a list, and some with variable).
I know the "Applications Installed" tab on the summary is specifically for the UDI, but is it possible to fill with applications that were installed using the "Install Application" step instead?

No. This is for Applications installed by the UDI Wizard only.
But you can add all you Application to the UDI Wizard, and make them mandatory, so the user wont uncheck them.
Thanks for the suggestion, but we will not be using the UDI for applications. We have a script that dynamically builds an application list (variable) and installs the software based on what the user has access to via deployments.
I am still holding out hope for this to be possible though. It's all based on various scripts, so my feeling is that somehow I should be able to populate that list by some other means.
My disadvantage is that I'm not very good with vb scripts, so I'm having a hard time figuring out where the "Applications Installed" tab gets its data from.

  • Client failing to install Applications in OSD

This is the first OSD in SCCM 2012 R2 that I am testing and I cannot get any application (not package) deployed finding several different errors (see below).  Also I am confused as to whether the client is properly registering on the server
(and if this is the cause of my problems)
The SMSTS log is showing the following errors during SMS client install:
Unable to read SMS client cert from environment. Not restoring SMS client cert.
Active request handle is empty, registering with new active request handle. This is expected if the TS was started from a media/PXE.
Failed to create instance for IMTCTokenHandler interface, hr=0x80070005
Failed to find property 'AutoApplyDeployment' in 'CCM_ApplicationManagementClientConfig' class defintion. Error 0x80041002. Default value will be used for this property
Error getting system isolation info. Code 8027000C
Remediation failed with error code 8027000C
Then during the application deployment phase I am seeing:
NotifyProgress received: 16 (Application failed to evaluate )
    Policy Evaluation failed, hr=0x80004005
Install application action failed: 'Microsoft Visio Viewer 2013'. Error Code 0x80004005
Install application action cannot continue. ContinueOnErrorFlag is set to false.
The SMS client is installed at the end of the failed task sequence but seems to have a few things not available.
Can I get any guidance on how to isolate what might be the cause of this?
    Thanks, Stephen

Is this the same behavior you're experiencing?:
    http://www.vansurksum.com/configmgr-2012-caveat-with-application-revisions-when-used-in-a-task-sequence/
This issue should have been fixed with R2 so the version of ConfigMgr being used would be good to know.
Also upload smsts.log (or even better all ConfigMgr logs) to OneDrive, because just providing single lines are meaninless (they are taken out of context). Thanks

I have been banging my head over and over searching for the fix and nothing has worked. Google used to be my friend. I am having doubts.
