Install bootcamp before or after installing lion

I'm currently on 10.4.6 (snow leopard) and want to install bootcamp to run windows. I've made a bootable clone with ccc to an external hd. I also want to update to lion. What should i do first:
a) make the partition in my hd and install bootcamp
b) install lion and re-ccc my hd to an external hd
thanks!

If you're going to be installing Windows XP or Vista, you must do so before upgrading to Lion. If not, do it afterwards.

  • Bootcamp: Before or After FileVault2?

    Or does it even matter?
I've been reading a lot online about the way Bootcamp and Filevault interact, but I can't find any NEW information. It seems to be all Lion related, not Mountain Lion related. I found one post on this message board from this March, but even it is a little overly complicated in what the guy is trying to do, and I honestly didn't follow what was being talked about.
Here's my basic question: I already have FileVault 2 completely set up on my computer and it works wonderfully. However, I've recently decided that I want a bootcamp partition set up for gaming and such. I don't care that the windows partition won't be encyrpted. It doesn't matter to me at all. So, running OSX Mountain Lion and FileVault2, can I just go through the steps normally to set up a Windows7 partition using bootcamp? Or, do I absolutely need to turn off FileVault2 in order to do that?
    Thanks!

I ended up getting everything working wonderfully.
Basically, you have to create your Bootcamp partition and install Windows BEFORE running FileVault2 on the main OSX partition. However, my computer works fine with Windows on Bootcamp un-encrypted and OSX on FileVault2.
Right now I have Windows 8.1 running on Bootcamp and OS 10.9 encrypted using FileVault2.
If you have any questions let me know! The process was simple enough. I was bummed that I had to turn off FileVault in order to run Bootcamp but it ended up not taking up far too much time to set up and fix.

install 6.5 before proceeding further. I coud not understand.
Just what it says - install os 10.6.5 before proceeding further.  You can either do so through Software Update or use the Combo update from Apple's download site.
You should repair permissions and restart your computer prior to updating and upgrading.

  • Install trackpad before or after Lion?

I am running 10.6.8 on my old MacBook.  I know that Lion will run okay on the MacBook (checked specs).  I just bought a Magic Trackpad so Lion gestures will work on the MacBook.  Should I install the Magic Trackpad before or after I install Lion or doesn't it matter?  For the record I tried search but I am still confused.

Thank you so much for the kind remark.
Given the stock market I wish I could convert some of that capital into capital.

  • Cannot install BootCamp after installing Lion

    History:
    · I had 10.6.8 and BootCamp on my Intel iMac (2007)
    · Lion to install, I had to secure the boot camp partition and then uninstalled bootcamp.
    · Then I can install Lion.
    · Now I wanted to restore boot camp, but there are error messages or if I want to reinstall Boot Camp
Would now like to restore my bootcamp or reinstall. But how?

you can't install XP on new 2011 Macs.
Boot Camp 4.0 doesn't include drivers, that does not mean you can't install XP.
Boot Camp 4 Lion Installation & Setup Guide (PDF)
While Boot Camp 4.0 will run in eitherSnow Leopard or Lion, it is a requirement for setting up new Windows installations in Lion even though existing Boot Camp 3 installations will continue to work in Lion if you upgrade your systems. What this means is that if you have an existing Windows XP or Vista installation when you upgrade to Lion then Boot Camp will still work, but you will not be able to upgrade it to version 4 or later.
Boot Camp 4 requires Windows 7 or later | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews
You don't NEED new 4.0 drivers, that is settled.
There is one sentence in the above article that needs to be confirmed, I highly doubt the accuracy:
if you decide to set up a dual-boot environment for Windows from a Lion installation then you will need to have Windows 7 or later, as your older XP or Vista discs will not work.
The only way Lion can allow XP to boot if it was there before, but not allow installing, would have to be the GPT partition.
Block = prevent = "cannot install" IS a form of blocking and preventing.
    So Apple does block.
    OP:
My iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) or iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2010) displays a black screen during installation of Microsoft Windows 7 using the Boot Camp Assistant.  How do I fix it?
The Windows 7 installer does not include required graphics or Bluetooth drivers for this computer.  To obtain the necessary drivers and resolve the issue, see this article.

  • Lion and snow leopard bootcamp, after installing lion snow leopard bootcamp with windows 7 does not boot

Just installed Lion OS  on my 2nd mac (on the 1st without an issue) but as I had a partition with windows 7 (installed with Snow Leopard bootcamp).
It seems that Lion OS renamed the Bootcamp partition but I am not able to rename it through OS.
Is there a solution for this or do I need to re-install?
    Many thanks for your help

Hi Jack.........ok ive managed to create a link to that video on how to install bootcamp.....this is the tutorial i used and i managed to gain 100% completion on bootcamp 1st time no messing......like i said in my previous reply did you save the windows support files from apple....(Critical).....ok no point in messing about i suggest you start again from scratch........these are the things i used and YOU will need to complete bootcamp
mem stick or cd-r / dvd-r......original copy disc of win 7 ...i never used an iso i used original disc....allow a minimum of 30gb of space for your win 7 partition.....if you want bootcamp so you can use big programs like windows based games i.e.....Crysis/Call of duty etc etc ..then you will need to consider that  you will need to allow a bigger partition to allow your HD to store the files.....this is the reason i installed bootcamp and so i made my partition    i have a 750GB HD so i made a partition of 300gb for windows 7 and left the other 450gb for Mac....so you need to partition enough for what you want bootcamp for remember once you get bootcamp working you will need to install ALL Important Windows updates Including Win 7 SP1......once everything is installed you will have bootcamp up and running lovely.....u can then boot up with either win7 or mac......click this link and watch carefully and do exactly as shown ok and you should be fine...if you have any probs contact me again ok.....let me know how you get on ok..:)...http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&v=QFIWtXTl4d0&NR=1

  • Easy to install Lion with BootCamp + Win 8 + NTFS partition for data?

Hey, I have a MacBook Pro (2011) currently on OS X 10.6.8, but I bought Lion 10.7 and want to use that.
Here's what I want to do:
    * install Lion (fresh, not upgrade)
    * install BootCamp
    * install Win 8 (DevEd) (for games and some other apps)
    And here are my questions:
    1) What's the best (free) way to save/"ghost" the current OS so I can quickly get back to that in case something happens when I install Lion?
    2) What order do I install BootCamp and Win 8 in? Any fool-proof tutorial for how to do this?
    3) If I do a backup with Time Machine as the last thing I do before installing Lion, I just copy the data back from the TM drive after install, right?
    4) I would like to use Win 8 and some programs there to read and write to the HFS+ OS X partition - is there a free and/or good way to do that?
    5) On PC I can use WinAmp, the great plugin "DeleteCurrentSong" and a shortcut key to delete the currently playing track. Is there a way to do something similar in any program in OS X?
    6) If not, would it be possible to - early in the install process - make a big NTFS partition and put most of my data there so it can be accessed from both OS X (with Paragon) and Windows? And Time Machine wouldn't back it up as long as it's NTFS, right?
Thanks a lot for any answers!

    Answer to question 1:
    a. Get a USB disc the same size or better larger than your internal HD
    b. Download Carbon Copy Cloner (free)
    c. Clone the internal HD to the external disc
    d. Reboot with the 'option' key held down. Choose the external disc to check that the clone was successful and is bootable.
    e. If yes, reboot again, hodling down the 'option' key. Choose the internal HDD.
    f. Dismount/eject the external HD and disconnect it from your computer.
    g. Go to app store and download Lion.
    h. When the download is complete, DO NOT run it. First, copy the file (Applications > Lion Install.app) to another location on your disc (the downloads folder will do). This is because after you run the installer it will delete itself from the Applications folder, and you may very well either want/need to do a re-install later without wanting to wait for hours for the download.
    i. Run Applications > Lion Install.app

  • Using Windows 7 after installing Lion.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate using Bootcamp in my iMac. Will it be safe after installing Lion or will it get corrupted?

    Will not be safe.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3199099?tstart=0
It may, but it could also present unable to boot back into Windows, it may change the partition number and require editinig BCD or just boot from Windows DVD and repair if possible and lucky.
I would install Lion to another drive, which is possible. It will need to erase the entire drive. Then clone the OS back if you want - or just run Lion off external and test it for a few days.

  • Is there a way to darken the dates (numbers) on ical. After installing Lion I can barely read the dates of the month in ICal

Is there a way to darken the dates (numbers) on the ICal calender. I can barely read mine after installing Lion.

I should note that the time stays on the left of the event name when I re-enter the text (which I had to do all the time before I found the "show event times" button) so I feel like there's a way.

  • How do I get back my files and setting after re-installing Lion?

After I deleted the wrong file, I had to re-install Lion. After I went through the setup none of my file were on the desktop and the settings had all defaulted. After I looked under the User folder, I noticed there are 2 different users listed, ajoep3 and my_full_name.my_full_name contains all the files, and prseumably setting that I had before the re-install.
How do I get those back? It won't allow me sign in under any other login.

I have a backup, through Time Machine, but I didn't use that. I had files that weren't backed up on Time Machine, so I re-installed Lion from the App store. I hoped it would just replace the system files I had deleted. It's hard to explain, but the user names, ajoep3 and my_full_name are tied together.
When I open the users folder it shows, ajoep with a house next to it, my_full_name and Shared. When I log in or out it only shows ajoep3. my_full_name isn't list in the system preferences>>users or any where else.

  • How do I recover space on my hard drive after installing Lion

My hard disk is full after installing Lion - before it had 80 GB free out of 320 GB.
Maybe it happened during the disabling of File Vault from Snow Leopard - I had to move a lot of files to get space enough for decrypting before using the encryption on Lion.
I have seen somewhere that the multi version way of saving files is what takes up the space and that it can be disabled.
    How?

Are you sure you don't have duplicate copies of the things you moved?
Did the old sparsebundle containing the encrypted version of your home folder get deleted?
If you're using Time Machine, the space may be taken up by Local snapshots.  See #30 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • After installing lion, my computer is running slower and having delays connecting to network

please help me resolve my problem.  after installing lion my system was running great for about a week.  suddenly it is having trouble connecting to the internet, running slow and the history pages are appearing without asking for them..  unable to get my homepage when opening up, just get a white screen. if i go to the history, i can get the homepage.  Only able to access my homepage by waiting for ever or getting it from the history.
    please help

Peter, thank you for responding.  No, I am not referring to the initial start up.  I downloaded Yosemite over a week ago and feel it is running very slow when switching websites.  Also, I have experienced numerous hangups causing me to force quite much more than before.
I just cleared my Safari history (I am guessing that is what you meant by "clean the old internet-caches" and restarted Safari.  I will see how it goes.
I uses a file called "Desktop" from my IPhoto library for my desktop pictures. It contains about 20 pictures.  I configured it that way in Preferences, but it seems whenever I shut down and restart my computer it reverts to the generic picture of Yosemite.  As for the question mark and "Update Needed" showing on my startup log in screen, I think I fixed that by changing my password in Preferences.
No that I have cleared the Safari history, I will see how things go.

I am having a similar issue, but in my situation, my users cannot log in.  All of my users are network users on Mini's.  I am running 10.6.8 on my server.  I have created users before with no issues, but have not done so in months.  When I try to log the new user in, I get the following error:

I have no idea of what to do.  I have verified that the user looks the same as my other users in WGM. The user's folder was created on the server.  The user has access to the folder.  I'm not sure what else could be wrong here.

  • Garbled text in Safari after installing Lion

After installing Lion, Safari now displays many pages with what appears to be missing font, garbled text. Many sites I've visted in the past (including my bank) just have "AAAAAAAA" wherever there's supposed to be text.
My first thought is either missing font or font clash. I never had this under Snow Leopard. Any ideas?

    Abiola O wrote:

There are two problems that leads to this.
    Mismatching permissions
    Corrupted cache entry's
First you should try to clear the safari cache.
To do so, click on the Safari menu bar at Safari and choose there empty cache.
If that does not solve the garbled fonts, perform a permission repair on your system disk, using the Disk Utility.
Before doing that, close ALL running applications.
Ignore upcoming messages like "could not repair on file XY" while performing permission repair, cause this will happen as you perform the task on a running system and opened files can not get changed.
If the problem persits, report back here.
I recommend to perform anyway a permission repair after every major update, cause during the update process, very often file permissions get crumbled. This will also solve some other issues after system upgrades.
