I am programmer and want to test for something.
Is it possible to install sun application server and jboss application server in the same computer (Windows XP Professional)?
Is there any special attention I need to take?

I plan to install APEX 4.2.1 and oracle HTTP server on 10.2.0.4 database.
Is there any down time required during installation?
I mean during installation, do I need to block users from accessing the database?
Can they do their normal data entry / inquiry?

An alternative to shutting down the database is to prevent all users from accessing Oracle Application Express when upgrading your installation from a previous release of Oracle Application Express. Oracle only recommends this option in high availability production environments where planned outages are not available. For all other scenarios, the database should be shut down.
To disable access to Oracle Application Express when the existing installation is using the Application Express Listener, shut down the appropriate application server where the Application Express listener is deployed.
To disable user access to Oracle Application Express when the existing installation is using the Oracle HTTP Server with mod_plsql, you should either shut down the Web server or disable the Application Express Database Access Descriptor of the Web server.
For an existing installation using the embedded PL/SQL gateway, you should disable the Oracle XML DB Protocol Server by setting the HTTP port to 0. This can be accomplished by starting SQL*Plus, connecting as SYS to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed, and running:
EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(0);
Once you have prevented access from Oracle Application Express users, you should log into SQL*Plus as SYS, connecting to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed, and query V$SESSION to ensure there are no long running sessions which would interfere with the upgrade process.
Back up the Oracle Database installation.
Oracle recommends that you create a backup of the current Oracle Database installation before you install Oracle Application Express. You can use Oracle Database Recovery Manager, which is included in the Oracle Database installation, to perform the backup.

I would remove Reader and repair or reinstall Acrobat.
Having different major versions can cause some users issues. Reader is not necessary if one has Acrobat installed. Even though Adobe has improved the capability of having both Reader and Acrobat with the same major version level there are still user configurations that have problems with this setup.

We are implementing Mobile applications,. Can we install Mobile repository server and mobile development server in same server?
Or do we have two sepearate servers for both?

Calendar server and address book server login fails with outlook connector

Hi all,
I have installed Java Communication Suite 5 according to the doc http://blogs.sun.com/factotum/resource/comms5-install-linux.html.
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying "Server:servername:3080
Error:service not available" also
"Server:servername:80/uwc"
Error:service not available"
asking to login to calendar server and address book server.Clicking "OK" allows install.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the meeting requests.It gives the error "login to calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of the error.The username and passwd entered is correct.

I would check through the outlook connector deployment configuration to verify that you have inserted valid information into all of the host & port fields - perhaps check the .ini file that is created to see if it has "Server" and "servername" listed.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Our basic recommendation is to have 20 tasks per MT Server. (An MT (Multi-Threaded) Server is equivalent to an operating system process.)
Consider the projected number of concurrent users for the application in the design phase of the implementation. Even though there may be a large number of potential users, a smaller number will be logged in at any given time. For purposes of the following discussion, assume that there are 100-200 concurrent users.
There are many variables to consider when tuning an Object Manager. This tuning should be reviewed with Siebel Expert Services as part of the Production Readiness review. Here are some variables to consider.
The number of concurrent users.
The length of time each user spends on the system during a session.
Session timeout.
Use of scripts.
Complexity of the application.
High usage times. (80% of users are online from 11:00 to 3:00)
The settings used for this Siebel Object Manager component are as follows:
Maximum Tasks = 300
Maximum MT Servers = 15
Minimum MT Servers = 5
Maximum Tasks represents the total number of concurrent users. Since the anticipated number of concurrent users is between 100-200 the setting has been set to allow for some extra breathing room. This is important to allow for sessions that do not log out properly and therefore hang around until the session timeout is reached. Session timeout can be set in the Webserver and is usually defaulted to 20 minutes.
Maximum MT Servers is the total number of processes that can be run for this component. It is also used to calculate how many tasks can be run on each process. The calculation is as follows:
Maximum Tasks / Maximum MT Servers = Number of tasks per MT Server
300 / 15 = 20
As mentioned before, our basic recommendation is that the ratio of Maximum Tasks to Maximum MT Servers be 20. An extensively configured or scripted application may require a lower ratio.
Minimum MT Servers is only used when the Siebel Server or the Component is started. This determines how many processes to startup for this component. The only benefit that this provides is that it reduces the initialization time of the process when a new MT Server is needed. In this example, 5 MT Servers were used because 100 users are anticipated. This way the system can handle 100 concurrent users before having to startup a new process.

Can you please guide me for script writing for automatic failover in case of primary datacenter outage?

You are trying to implement manually what should be happening automatically in the cluster. If the primary SQL Server becomes unavailable in the data center, it should fail over to the secondary SQL Server automatically. Is that not working?
You also might want to run this configuration by some SQL experts. I am not a SQL expert, but if you have both hosts in the data center in a cluster, there is no need for replication between those two nodes as they would be accessing
the database from some form of shared storage. Then it looks like you are trying to implement Always On to the DR site. I'm not sure you can mix both types of failover in a single configuration.
FYI, it would make more sense to establish a file share witness in your DR site instead of placing a third node in the data center for Node Majority quorum.

Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
Might also put them in the Airport Express, no idea what Double SAT is!?

Replication between Oracle Server and MS SQL Server

Hello,
Does anybody know of a well known or reliable software that can do data replication between Oracle Server and Microsoft SQL server.
I suppose I can write my own version using Heterogenous Services in Oracle but I would like to know if such an automated replication between Oracle and SQL is available commercially.

please post you question on failover clusters in the cluster forum. THey will explain how this works and point you at scipts.
You should also look in the Gallery for cluster management scripts.

Installing 2 Application server and 1 DB server and load balancing for 11i

Hi,
I need info on how to install and configure load balancing for 11.5.8 on Win2000. The scenario: 1 db server DB, 2 apps/web/forms servers AP1 and AP2. Using rapid install you can only specify one db server A and one form server in multi node installations, right? How do I install the form server on AP2? Can I use the same config.txt? The computer name for AP2 is different.
