Install CD says my computer can't install Snow Leopard, yet it seems to meet all the requirements

Hi, I have already checked to see that I meet the requirements in the instructions (and answers on similar questions). I am using a CD direct from Apple of the software (a copy of a 10.6.4 CD). Yet the install CD says it can't be installed on my computer and simply stops, its very vague about why.

>(a copy of a 10.6.4 CD). That's your problem.  You got the wrong CD.  Any system with 10.5.8 will not be able to use a 10.6.4 CD.  The only 10.6 installer that will work with a 10.5.8 system (assuming it is Intel and 1 GB of RAM as G5 and G4 and G3 won't work), is the one with this label*
Anything with a different looking label is system specific only for the vintage Mac stated on the label that was released with the 10.6.x release stated on the label, or anythign with Upgrade, Dropin  will not work on a 10.5.8 machine, unless that 10.5.8 machine was released during the 3 weeks prior to the August 28, 2009 release of Snow Leopard.  OEM discs will not work unless Apple offered it directly to you stating it would for your Mac model and vintage Mac.
Contact AppleCare if you received the wrong disc from them.
Contact the person who gave you the disc and tell them it is the wrong disc otherwise.
You can buy a 10.6.3 retail disc with the above image if you have the system requirements for Snow Leopard from the Apple Store for $29.95.

When you installed Snow Leopard, Tiger was replaced, leaving your programs and files intact.
What is causing your freezing problem is unknown, you can take Kappy's advice and remove everything, but you lose your files and free iLife programs that came with Tiger/new machine.
The 10.6.3 disk you "upgraded" with has the full 10.6.3 on it, but no free iLife suit, so a erase and install will remove what you already have installed.
You can try to locate your problem without the erase and install method by running through this list of fixes.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
But before you do anything, backup your personal data off the machine to a extenal drive and disconnect.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Because if you have to follow Kappy's advice and wipe and install 10.6 fresh, it will cure your problem in nearly 99% of cases, but you have to rebuild everything. All programs and files.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If this is all too much for you, then STOP and call a local PC/Mac service or competant friend to assist you.
Yuo might need to install more RAM into the machine to make 10.6 run better as well.

I have the original snow leopard disc and I think it's a retail version . Please guide me through the installation in details. Can you also please let me know about this boot camp.

You cannot. From a legal standpoint, the license agreement for OS X mandates that you run OS X only on Apple hardware. HP is not (yet) owned by Apple.
From a technical standpoint, your HP laptop doesn't use EFI, but rather an early predecessor called a BIOS. Apple is the only vendor of consumer computer hardware that uses EFI; other vendors reserve EFI for use in servers.
Secondly, Apple's operating systems support a rather limited number of configurations of video hardware and mainboard chipsets directly since they need only support those systems that they manufacture. You cannot use Windows software or drivers on OS X, so prior to installation, you would need to write your own hardware drivers for your laptop, create an OS X drive image on a Mac, and then modify that image with your drivers before putting it in the HP.
It will be simpler (and legal), to simply purchase a used Mac. Apple's online store has refurbished MacBook Airs starting at $850 and Mac Minis for $700. If you go to e-bay or craigslist, you'll find used Macs for considerably less.

  • Im trying to instal snow leopard on my macbook. its running tiger 10.4.11 and it meets all the requirements  but it ask me for a restart to begin instalation progres, i restar it and it doesn't happen anything

im trying to instal snow leopard on my macbook. its running tiger 10.4.11 and it meets all the requirements  but it ask me for a restart to begin instalation progres, i restar it and it doesn't happen anything. anyone can help me?

I assume the restart was prompted during the installation process?
First of all, that restart will take several minutes while files are moved into place and should not be interrupted.
If it fails, or you have interrupted the process, you'll need to boot from the installer (hold down the C key on startup) and use Disk Utility to erase the drive prior to continuing the installation.
That will wipe all data on the drive, though, so if you didn't make a backup before beginning the upgrade, you'll need to get your data off safely before proceeding. That may likely require the use of another Mac to access yours in Target Disc Mode.

  • Installing snow leopard on a partition with lion as the native os

I want to use quicken on my lion macbook pro. i tried installing snow leopard into a partition but can't install it. i can't start from the install disk and neither can i just designate the partition as the destination. thanks

Joerel- You may not be able to boot that Mac with that DVD but it should be able to boot from a fully-updated version of Snow Leopard + Combo Update (preferably 10.6.8v2) since that model originally shipped with Snow Leopard. Getting Snow Leopard onto it might be an insurmountable challenge; it depends on your available resources.
You're going to need a Mac that can boot from that DVD or already has 10.6.8v2 installed. You should then be able to clone that other Mac's boot volume over to the partition you set aside on your newer Mac's internal hard drive.
Remember that you will need to use the Combo Updater, not the "delta" update from Software Update, if you want to be sure this will work. The reason for this is that you need to be sure the components for the newer Mac are included in the OS, which the original DVD install obviously does not have and the "delta" updates may not have.
    Get the combo updater here:

  • How can I remove Snow leopard from my Mac, it crash all important programs

Please tell me how I can remove Snow Leopard from my machine & revert back to Leopard 10.5.8
Since I loaded Snow leopard, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark & Mail all quit over & over again. I never had ANY of these issues before loading snow leopard. I rely daily on the programs I listed. I am not saying once in a while, but constantly; opening the programs, exporting, placing graphics, emailing, you name it, it quits the program I am in. I keep sending apple the crash reports, but I am afraid I have reached my end. (Apple must have a folder fu;l of crashes with my email address in it by now.)
To maintain my sanity PLEASE tell me there is a way to do this without risking loosing any of my data.
I do have time machine hooked up.
Please be a life saver (sanity saver) and tell me how to get Snow Leopard off my machine!!!!!

    First, Welcome to the Discussions,
Second, there is no way to successfully degrade an OS to a previous version. You would have to install anew a previous OS, thereby erasing all your data. Then you would take that version up as far as you want to go.
Of course if you've been using Time Machine you can recover to the prior system and retain your files using that.
Best of all would be to have a firewire external drive and use an app like this to make a clone on. No worries then if one wants to go back before any major changes very precisely.

  • HT3209 My computer meets all the requirements to view HD video content, why can I not download and view it?

I have all the minimum system requirements to view HD content on my computer. Why does iTunes tell me that I don't and cannot download my HD movies that I have already purchased? Why should I buy the SD version when my computer is completely capabile of viewing all HD content and has a very good video card with HDCP status showing that it's good?
Please help so that I can get my movies downloaded.

This is for the Windows 8-8.1 users out there:  If you have the Pro version of Windows 8 and just recently upgraded to 8.1, Microsoft automatically includes a Virtual Machine package called Hyper-V client.  It doesn't ask you if you want to install it, it just does.
This may also apply to Windows 7 users who may have inadvertently installed some version of Hyper-V on their computer.
The Hyper-V package installs a secondary video driver that breaks HDCP, which means you can't play HD movies even on a compliant system.  You need to get rid of it.  To do so:
    Go to Control Panel
    Programs and Features
Turn Windows Features on or Off
    Uncheck "Hyper-V"
    Reboot.
This applies to almost anything that requires HDCP, so if you're having trouble with Blu-Rays or Amazon Prime, that's likely the culprit.

  • On Mac OS X snow leopard, when I quit firefox 4, all the app tabs I set up get deleted. Is that suppose to happen? on your website it says that when you close firefox and reload the browser the app tabs should be there on start up?

When I close the firefox browser but I do not quit the program entirely, the app tabs remain as I had originally set them up.
But when I fully quit firefox. All the app tabs I set up are gone and I have to set them up all over again every time.

Here's what happened in safe boot mode.
I click on apple logo > software update > see's that Super Drive 3.0 is checked > click install
I wait for the install to go through.
First pop up says " There was a problem installing this update" Quit all apps before installing bla bla bla... I noticed a sound when this pop up appeared. It's the sound of when you restart the macbok. There is another popup behind this saying that software update has been sucessfully installed.
So what I did first was click "quit" on the popup saying "There was a problem installing this update".
then I clicked "ok" where it said that the software installation update was successfully installed.
I get another pop up which is the Software Update window. I let it look for any updates and it then says that my software is up to date. I noticed that Super Drive 3.0 is listed and cannot be checked [x]. There's a Check mark with a green circle around it.
I quit the software update window and click on apple logo > software update and let it do its thing. Next thing you know, It says that Super Drive 3.0 needs to be updated. I also checked the SERIAL ATA and still shows rev. CP06.
I just recently installed this mac os X so there is no "important" data on this laptop. I don't have any money for OS Lion or Mavrick nor meet the system req to run it. 2gb to 4gb is expensive for a ddr2 800 200 pin ram

  • Updates will not download anymore even though the computer meets all the requirements and it goes into and endless loop of connecting to the server, why?

Firefox used to update automatically as it's set-up to do. Now it shows an update for security and asks to download it. Then it won't download it. The box shows a bar that continually shows that it's in motion and the message says that it's trying to connect to the server but it never does. I checked the system requirements for the download and it has the requirements. Your help information doesn't give an answer for this problem. I would need to talk to someone who can help. Is that at all possible? Thanks, chezo7

You '''can not''' download version 8.0.x, the latest for your PPC MAC is the 3.6.24 version.
Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac. Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

3.6.24 version you can download from here:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
by the way a group of Mac users have created their own Community Build from the "Firefox 4+" versions.
    TenFourFox for PPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 .

Do you meet all these requirements?
Apple states the following basic Snow Leopard system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel processor (IA-32). "Yonah" processors such as Core Solo and Core Duo can run only 32-bit applications; later x86-64 architecture processors such asCore 2 Duo will also be able to run 64-bit applications.

5 GB of free disk space
DVD drive (also accessible via Remote Disc) or external USB or FireWire DVD drive for installation

  • Can't install Snow Leopard on iMac

Heya everyone. Alright, pretty much I had no problems with snow Leopard for a while until it started not being able to open a few files, I quickly restarted the computer, only to find the mac had stayed at the loading screen. I installed Snow Leopard again, that seemed to work and everything was still there. It crashed a second time 2 weeks later, I accidently put in the Leopard CD instead of Snow Leopard, and restarted the mac before it could confirm installation. Unfortunately i was too late, and tried using the snow leopard CD and didn't work
Shortly after i just went with installing leopard. it had made a file with all my old files, but all the applications were corrupted and had to be deleted and had to start my apps from scratch on Leopard. Now every time I try install Snow Leopard it won't let me from the desktop, and when i try doing it from restarting the mac it won't even get off the calculation for how long the installation is meant to last. I've tried to go to disk utility and verify and repair the CD and the hard drive, but nothing seems to be working!
I REALLY want Snow Leopard back, but it won't let me :S Can anyone help me at all?!
Thanks guys. o0 Will Ryan 0o

Your story is a little hard to follow.
Do you have a backup of your important files?
Is there anything that would keep you from simply erasing your hard drive and then doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard?
    Good luck.

  • Major installation issues. Can't install Snow leopard.

I've been experiencing problems with my macbook so after many attempts at trying to solve them i've decided to re-install snow leopard. I had to boot from the disk holding down C because my laptop would no longer boot. I went through the usual steps of selecting the language and the appropriate drive. Then I get an error dialogue saying: 'the contents of this disk can't be changed. Mac os x couldn't be installed on this disk'
    What do i do now?
    Helllllllllllllllp

You should probably confine discussion of this issue to the original topic you already started:

Otherwise, folks reading this one don't get the full story.

  • Ever since I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8), masking in QuickTime 7Pro has stopped working.  Has anybody experienced this?  Is there a work around?  Can I use FCP to add masks to video?

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8) a month ago, the masking function in QuickTime 7Pro (v. 7.6.6) stopped working.  Masks disappeared in old videos where I had previously and successfully added a mask, and I could not longer use QT 7Pro to add a mask to a new video.  When I installed Snow Leopard I also installed QT X, but I found QT 7Pro in the Utilities folder, so it is still there but the masking function is definately not working.
    Has anybody else experienced this?
Is there a remedy so I can recover my older masked videos, and make new masked videos?
Can I make masked videos in Final Cut Pro?
