Install CS5 trial alongside licensed CS4?

Does anyone know if you can install the Photoshop CS5 trial alongside CS4? I have a licensed copy of CS4 but want to try out Photoshop CS5. I don't want to screw up my CS4 installation though.
Does the trial of CS5 happily co-exist with a licensed version of CS4?

  • Downloaded and installed CS5 trial version

    I downloaded Adode Download assistant and was able to do installation of Download Assistant and did an apparent download and install of CS5 trial version.  However, the Download Assistant did not start the application as promised.  What I got was a "Finish" screen that suggested I start out with tutorials on Adobe TV.  They all appeared unrelevant to CS5 and CS5 itself could not be started even by going to the folder CS5 had created in my user file.  What do I need to do to actually run the CS5 trial version? My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, the computer is a Toshiba Satellite E305-S1990 that has worked fine on other dowloads though none were from Adobe.  How do you expect people to purchase your programs if they can't run the trial versions?

    The trial I was attempting to install was the Photoshop CS5.1trial.  No, I didn't receive any error messages while doing the download or install.  I have tried installer several times.  It does not indicate that the trial has already been installed, but goes through what looks an installation process as follows.  Each time it says it has completed installation and shows me a page with a finish tab at the bottom of the installation steps listed on the left side.  In the center of the page is a message which says something like "Continue on to the next step to learn about CS5" or something to that effect.  If you click on the message you are taken to "Adobe TV' which appears to have little to do with CS5.  If instead to hit the 'Continue' or 'Next' tab at the bottom of the page it does something I can't remember at the moment (and the PC I loaded onto is packed away for a trip I'm leaving on tomorrow).  In any case, yes there are files in my user
    folder and I have clicked on the file marked CS5 to no avail.  If there is a secret to actually running the program, I obviously don't know it.

    I've been trying to install the CS5 for a couple of week now but cannot get it to install. I've tried lots of things I've seen in the forums but I still cannot get it to install. I'd appreciate it if someone could offer some help and direction to step me through the possible issues. I've tried uninstalling, using the cs5 cleanup utility, changing permissions on the entire Adobe folder, completely uninstalling any Adobe product, deleting all reference folders, running as administrator, etc etc but nothing works. I've turned off firewall and antivirus, closed all applications including start-up items, and still nothing.
    I'll start again and list my issues and perhaps someone can help..

    Try this microsoft solution, it worked for me on Vista with SP2, 32 bit. Even though you have a 64bit system, I think this solution might well work.  I spent 9 days with Adobe trying to install $1,700 software, and still they haven't given me a solution.  Opened Microsoft tech support case today, and everything is now installed, CS5 and Acrobat 9 professional.  Installed Acrobat 9 the same was as CS5, and installed it using the new Admintrator account.
    Here is a summary from Microsoft of what the did to fix the issue:  Good luck!

    I am currently running the PS CS4 trial version and have the upgrade on order (shipped from so no key until arrival)
    Can you simply use the trial, as I assume its essentially the software, and enter the key on arival and activate etc (less hassle) or do you need to uninstall and start over?

    Just entering the serial should work fine. I've done this a few times in the past when I didn't have access to my software by other means and luckily, PS does not have much in terms of extra content that only becomes available with a full install, so this should be smooth sailing...

    I've just installed a CS5 upgrade on top of CS4 which itself was an upgrade on top of a full CS2
    I'm planning now on un-installing the "2" and "4" to just leave the "5" in situ
    Is there any technical reason for leaving them in situ

    Photoshop does not install "on top of" its predecessors, but along side.  As you have seen, they can all coexist, though you can only run one at a time.
    That said, the uninstaller for older versions of Photoshop chances undoing some of the file associations that the later installer has set up.
    For this reason, most people advise just leaving them in situ, if you're not hurting for disk space.
    And who knows, you may find something you think isn't working the way you expect, then want to close Photoshop and go back and open the old version just to see how you had it set up.

    Yes you can uninstall CS5 programs without affecting Photoshop CS6. Please make sure that you are using the standard uninstallation procedure:
    On Windows XP, uninstall via Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
    On Windows Vista or Windows 7, in the Control Panel select Programs then Programs And Features.
    On Macintosh, the uninstaller is in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers.

    I got an error in the end of the instalattion of Flash CS5 yesterday, but it seems to work fine when I open Flash CS5. Is there some kind of "repair" I can run to be sure, or do I have to delete the whole thing and instal it again?

    Hi, I don't recall an exact message. It just told me that it wasn't installed corectly and that I should try to restart my computer, it didn't tell me what the problem was.
    But it seems to work, I just need the program for something very important on monday, so I just wanted to know if there was an easy way to find out what the problem was / if there was any. I mean rather find out now than monday right

    I am 99% installed and it stopped and says to close Internet explorer to finish.  I closed it and even unhooked the internet and it still says the same thing.   Enough is installed for me to use the program but i have to leave the installer open on the computer or else cancel it.   Does somebody know what i can do????

    It is possible that Internet explorer is running in the background.
    I recommend navigating to the task manager and clicking on the processes tab.
    The click on "Show processes from all users".
    In the list of processes, look for "iexplore.exe". Select it and click on "End Process".
    Repeat the steps if you see more instances of the same process running.
    That should allow installation to complete.

  • Install CS5 and keep CS4...

    I have CS4 and downloaded the CS5 trial. When I try to install CS5 trial, it asks me to close all of my CS4 apps. I don't want it to install over my CS4 apps. Does anyone know if this installer will overwrite CS4?

    It doesn't over write them but you do need to have all Adobe applications closed when you install.

    got a brand new macpro.    trying to install CS5 trial version.  i download adobe download assistant,  click the installer, it opens up, the bar goes across the screen, then it quits... nothing.     I called adobe tech support 3 times already, and they're completely clueless.  completely.  their only advice is to go back to the website and try downloading again.  Ive downloaded the thing 10 times now.    What's up Adobe with your tech support?   they're rude, nonchalant, and sound like they're sleeping.

  • CS5 Trial - so much wrong

    Downloaded & installed CS5 trial, have Windows 7 and plenty of RAM.  Have tried x64 & other version, same issues in both.  I open a raw image, it opens and overlays approx 80% of top menu, cannot use buttons on left side of main window, only the select choices given within the actual image preview window.  Cannot close the image or exit the program either, as there is no functionality/button for this whatsoever within the preview window/workspace, and attempting to click to either side of this window or in the x on top right of main window causes nothing but a beep.  If I choose 'close window' from bottom task bar, nothing happens.  The *only* way to close the image and the program itself is through task manager.  1) Can the clone tool or any other tool other than the limited selection actually given in the 'preview' window actually be used in the trial version?  Or is it not really as fully functional as I was led to believe?  2)  How on earth are we supposed to exit the image and/or the program itself if clicking anywhere outside the preview window is disabled, and you have not provided any means to do so within the preview?  Please advise..  Thanks.  (sorry, a bit frustrated that I downloaded this and it does not work)

    It would help alleviate our ignorance if you gave us the following System information:
    Operating System/version
    Amount of RAM installed
    Hard drive(s) capacity
    Make and model number of video card
    Also be aware that the only way to check that you have the latest video drivers is on the manufacturer's web site.

    Hi, I was wondering if installing a trial version of CS5 would fix the version cue errors from CS4.
    If not, does anyone know a good download of the version cue files? They have all dissappeared from my computer after running the cleanup script and the problem still persists =(

    Afterr months of pain and one ephiphany later, i have a simple solution to the issue.
    Go into the common files, adobe drive, version cue folder, and drag the files into the recycling bin =)
    So theres no need to install cs5 =D
    Hope this can help others who still have this issue.

    Upon removal of the Photoshop CS5 trial, I lost all of my Save as Adobe PDF Presets (.joboptions) in the CS4 versions of Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign. I miss them... so much....

    So I contacted a friend and he sent me a copy of his default presets.  These need to be installed in the Macintosh HD > Library > Applications Support > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings folder.

    You can open Photoshop normally as it was before you saw the trial version?
    Bridge CS6 opens, but you cannot see your pictures?  Here's an easy way to check:
    First reboot your computer. Photoshop CS6 should open normally, that way we know it's fixed.  You can exit Photoshop
    Now...
    Make a shortcut to Bridge CS6 and place it on your desktop.
    From Windows Explorer, drag one of your picture folders to the Bridge shortcut.
    Bridge should open and show the pictures in your folder.
    If it does not, get back to me and we will look at other ideas.
