Install Disc Lost--need to reinstall Mail

My Macbook is about a year old, and I've moved since then. I can't find the box and I'm having a LOT of trouble with Mail. first one account wouldn't download, now i can't send through any accounts. I need to reinstall the program, but i don't have my original disc.

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

Mike,
Reinstalling Mail will not affect anything in your HOME folder. This includes anything in your mailboxes, any of your settings for Mail, etc.
Look on versiontracker.com for an application named Pacifist. Pacifist will allow you to browse the contents of the Leopard install disk, and extract/install just Mail.app. Are you sure that you need to reinstall Mail, and if so, why?

Simply go ahead installing CS5.5. All you need is the CS3 serial number for verification.

Personally, I would use the cleaner tool re-installation steps here: Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Keep in mind, CS5.5 was made quite a while before OS10.10, if you do get it running, there's no guarantee that a program that old will function correctly in an OS that new.

Do i need to reinstall mail...

Yesterday multiple copies of the same email (last count 50+) started appearing in the “recovered messages (Gmail)” folder. I deleted my account from mail then reinstalled my account.
Problem sorted
Mail even managed to recover my inbox and sent messages, some of them have a file size of 0bytes but the content is all there.
This morning however the “mail activity box” started showing hundreds of messages being recieved without showing anything new in the “mail inbox”...
No change in the file size of the 0byte messages.
Does anyone know if this is normal?
If its not im thinking I might need to reinstall mail, not something im looking forward to...
Any help would be massively appreciated

In the end I just upgraded to lion.
It's early days yet but I haven't had any more strangeness from the "mail activity mailbox."

Corrupted Windows 7 install on W520 need to reinstall Windows?

Somehow I have corrupted my Windows 7 installation on my W520.
I receive this error message from Windows when I try to open standard links with Windows Explorer:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
Lenovo Support says I have to reinstall Windows 7 from the recovery disks. (My backup is also corrupted.) I do not want to completely reinstall Windows if I don't absolutely have to (Nobody would.). Fred Langa has a column that says you can do an "upgrade" reinstall to the same version you already have and it will fix a corrupted Window. However, as I don't have a complete copy of Windows I don't know whether I can do that with my Lenovo Windows serial number? I have downloaded a couple of Windows 7 install discs from Digital River and neither of them seemed to work. (I am running Windows 7 x64 Professional.) I have tried a bunch of file association changes by merging new associations with the Registry, but this has not solved my problem. Windows basically works, and all of my programs work, so I am really hoping for a solution. I can use Power Desk to navigate Windows instead of Windows Explorer but it won't open the desktop shorcuts like Control Panel, Documents, Picture, etc.

I have been to Digital River, but I found *two* versions of Windows Professional X64. I also found two different numbered ISOs which claimed to be the same version. (I actually first learned about them in a different forum in Lenovo.) I tried to do a Repair from them and neither worked. They might work for an upgrade install, with my Lenovo serial number, but they do not work with a Repair. (I did have a Repair disc that I had made myself, and it did *not* solve my problem.)
Do you happen to know the exact ISO number of a version that will work. They are 3GB per download, so they take a few minutes at home. Here I am on a satellite connection so I couldn't download them at all.

Install Discs Lost

If, for example, the install discs are lost, is there any way one can erase everything and re-install OS X except buying a box of Tiger?

I 'lost' mine last year and called Apple. They will get you some more if you are under the 12 month warranty - I think thats what they said. It was a call centre in India and I got cut off.
Anyway - I found them again so had no need to order.
I would suggest calling and see what they say.

A friend of mine needs to re-install mail, but they can't find there installation DVDs which came with their iMac. Is mail available to download from Apple anywhere?

I have an iBook G4. I lost all install discs and need to reinstall os x. I would like the ilife as well as the marbleblast gold and world book inclusions (if possible). At minimal, I am going to need the two install discs and a disc for classic. Anyone know where I can get them? I can't find any on amazon... Thanks in advance!

Hi there...
I wan't to reinstall Mail and I've inserted my original 10.5 Leopard install-DVD, but when I try to install Mail using "optional installs" it's not possible to check the box next to "Mail" - it's gray and "non-active"
I'm loged in as admin.
What to do?? Please don't tell me I need to reinstall all of OS X :s

*You don't need Pacifist in order to extract the Mail package from your Install Discs.* Just insert the Disc labeled "Mac OS X Install Disc 1", then open a Terminal and copy/paste the following in (in one line):
cp /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ Disc\ 1/System/Installation/Packages/Mail.pkg ~/Desktop/
Note the blank space between "pkg" and "~/Desktop". You don't have to be afraid of the Terminal. This command will copy (cp) the file Mail.pkg to your Desktop (~/Desktop/) where you can double-click it in order to run the installer. It's simple like that.

Cannot activate new account in Mail, random misfuncioning. Reinstall Mail?

I am not able to activate a new POP account in Mail (I already have 1 POP and 1 .Mac active accounts). Other Mac with identical software has no problem at all....!
Maybe too many emails, or just the Mail software is corrupted.

I wouldn't reinstall Mail just yet.
I'm having the same problem at work. I'm starting to suspect it is an issue with 10.4.8.
Up until yesterday I could start new accounts, but they couldn't receive mail. Today I can't install a new account at all.
I can set up Exchange accounts, however, through Mail.
What exactly happens when you try to activate the POP account.

I am unable to open Mail. After troubleshooting, it tells me I need to reinstall Mail but I can't find a way to do that.

Unless you have it backed up to time machine (in which case you open applications folder, enter time machine, go back to a backup in which mail was working, click it, then click restore) the only simple way to reinstall applications that came with OS X is to reinstall.

Bad Install Disc?

I've never used or even taken my Install Disc out of it's case, so it's totally scratch-free, but when I tried to start up with it today, my Mac just sat there on the Apple logo, reading the disc for about 20 minutes, and finally just shut off by itself. This is the gray disc that came with the computer. I tried again with same result, so I started up from the HD and verified it with Disk Utility and got this:

Checking Catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.

I verified Disc 2 and it checks out fine, so did I get a dead disc? And if I did, how do I go about getting a new one?

Appears so. Call 1-800-MY-APPLE, tell them exactly what you posted here, and ask for a replacement disk. Have your purchase info and serial number (it's under Apple menu->About this Mac. If you're nice, it might not cost you anything but a little time while they ship it.

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775 (telephone numbers for other countries - http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html). Provide the serial number and specifications of the Mac. They may be able to provide a replacement set of discs for a fee. These discs will be for whatever OS was installed on the computer originally, so if you have an upgraded version you will need to obtain the discs some other way.

Prepare Your Mac for Sale
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer. Instead just shut it off. The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.
