Install dual OS in S10e

Hey...
I bought a S10e with Windows XP preinstalled. I want to install a Linux distro (Suse) as a second OS. I tried to find some help from this forum, but without result.
Can anyone help me on this?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Jejeje

Hi you are welcome....
First you should know ,, when you install or partition your S10e , you lost your ability to Rescue and Recover...
Best you backup the whole system before you do that... a howto ive written here Backup S10e
If you want to install a linux system this without fear why choose not this http://wubi-installer.org/
you can install Ubuntu as an deinstallable program works exactly like the normal ubuntu 9.04
and the best of it..
It doesnt destroy the rescue and recover funktion in your S10e... i approved and tested it ...
so give wubi ...a chance ..

  • How to install Dual OS(solaris 10 and Windows XP)?

    I have got a 80 gb sata hard disk and i am not able to install Dual OS(solaris and Windows XP ) on it.My Partitions are as follows:
    Primary partition-5GB
    Remaining are extended Partition.
    Extended partition details
    8 gb NTFS partition(installed windows XP)
    7 gb NTFS partiton(No data in it)
    20 gb NTFS partition(No data in it)
    20 gb NTFS partiton(has data in it)
    15 gb RAW partiton
    I first installed Windows xp on 8 gb Extended partiton.Then when i installed Solaris i could see only 2 partitons.One with the 5 gb and the other with the 71 gb.I actually wanted to install my solaris on the 15 gb Raw partition.Since i could not see the partition(15 gb Raw) i installed solaris on the 5 gb partition.Now when the comp boots it goes to solairs os only.i dont have the option to choose windows at all.
    could any one of you explain me how the partitions are supposed to be and how could i make it as a Dual OS.

    Windows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
    As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
    You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
    I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
    If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

  • How do I install dual-boot Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 on one hard disk ?

    I tried to install Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 on same disk using CDs, but
    the second installation overwrote the first Solaris which was installed
    previoudly on the half-disk size partition of same disk.
    How do I install two Solarises on one hard disk ?
    Thanks
    Yakov

    There are no tricks to get Solaris to dual boot on the same drive. Just allocate and pick the free slices not used by the first Solaris install when you put in the second install. Technically speaking there is nothing preventing you from running seven separately bootable Solaris instances on the same drive (one of 8 available slices is overlap -- slice 2) provided you use a swap file on a root partition instead of reserving a whole slice for swap.

  • Mac mini with 10.6 installed - dual boot 10.8?

    Hi all
    I have an a Mac mini with 10.6.8 installed (think it came with 10.5) and would like to buy Mountain Lion from the Apple Store and install it as a dual boot setup. I think the hardware is too old for 10.10 (although it does give me the option to download it from the App store). I would like to keep my existing install and install 10.8 either alongside 10.6 or on a separate partition. Couple of questions;
    Can I shrink the partition that contains my existing 10.6 install (there is plenty of space on the disk), create another partition and install 10.8 onto it?
    Failing that can I install 10.8 alongside 10.6 on the same partition (like we used to do for OS9 and OSX)?
    For 10.8 I will be receiving a "content code" for the Mac App Store - once I download the files and start the install presumably the Mac will restart and I will get access to the usual install utilities (without the OS running)?
    Many thanks for any help.

    If your computer will run Mountain Lion, it will run Yosemite.
    1. Yes.
    2. I would go with 2 partitions.
    Yes.
    Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
    To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
    Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
    OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
    2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
    8 GB or more of available space
    Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

    Do a backup before installing.

  • Windows 7 instal dual boot

    I'm trying to install windows 7 as a dual boot. I downloaded easybcd to take care of the dual boot start selection. Then proceeded with usb instal which didn't work. So I then downloaded the iso and burned to disk. Which wouldn't load (yes bios had dvd as first boot), but I then just went into windows 8, found the setup, which started. When I clicked update and instal it hung and crashed. But when I hit don't update and install. It did just fine. Went through the whole install and down the list of like 5 items 0-100%.
    But now, after rebooting after installing, it just sits at the starting windows screen, with the red green blue yellow windows 'flag' flashing brighter/softer. Its been there for like 20 min. After rebooting, I get options for windows 7, windows 8, or windows installer. If I try 7 I get error right away and it restarts me, if I choose 8 it loads me into my normal windows 8. IF I choose installer, it brings me back to the starting windows screen.
    I don't know if its still installing things, as the windows flag is flashing brighter and then softer over and over, but its been again another 30 min and its still there. No % marker or anything.
    I haven't installed any drivers (which I have saved on d:/ and on a usb as well) as I haven't had the opportunity nor know when to install them other than after windows starts.
    Any help much appreciated.

    I tried that, but when I get to the select a drive/partition screen, it that's where it says cannot install on that drive/partition. No option to continue. But, once I get my super raid daughter board and my 3x 480gb crucial m550 msata drives, I will just have one msata set up gpt for windows 8, one set for ntfs and for windows 7, and then the third will have to be my scratch disk. I'll then use my 2.5" 1tb Samsung evo for all data, source files, and use my external enclosure with 1tb Samsung evo for my export. Wish there was a way to get the new gt72 4x m.2 sata daughter board.

  • Installing Dual 500mhz Processor from G4

    I have a B&W G3 that currently has a 400mhz processor. I just salvaged a Dual 500mhz processor from a dying Powermac G4. How can I replace the processor? Will it work? thanks.

    That dual G4 processor uses the 300-pin rectangular connector. The processor board is much larger, and is installed with three or four screws over as many posts on the motherboard.
    The Blue & White G3 processors, like the beige G3 before them, and the very first "PCI-graphics" G4, use a 305-pin nearly square pin grid array inserted into a ZIF socket.
    They are not compatible, and the signals have been changed -- there are no adapters.

  • [SOLVED] Can't install; dual-boot sharing partitions?

    Hi, I'm currently dual-booting Linux Mint 14 and Windows 7 on my laptop, and decided to replace Mint with Arch. Somehow, though, I don't think I ever divided my HDD into seperate partitions for Linux and Windows. Using gparted (or fdisk), /dev/sda (my HDD) has essentially got a Dell utility partition (100MiB, sda1), a recovery partition (15GiB, sda2), a 1 MiB unallocated space, and a 284 GiB section labeled "OS" (sda3). I can't touch the partition on Linux because it's always in use.
    I can't get through with the installation because of this, and can't find an answer no matter how often or in-depth I RTFM. If someone could point me in the right direction, that'd be great.
    Thanks.

    I would recommend downloading the gparted cd here, and setting up your partitioning scheme from there. I am quite suprised about your system setup though, you may want to nuke it and start again because something weird is going on.
    Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what's happening. I'll look into using gparted as a LiveCD, but I'd rather not wipe everything if I can help it.
    I don't know if this is the case, but Ubuntu had (has?) an option to install to an image on the windows partition (wubi), rather than a partition of it's own. It's possible that Mint adapted this for their spinoff, and would explain why you only have a Windows partition.
    I recommend that you modify your partition scheme if you want to install Arch. Shrink your Windows partition as much as the Windows partitioner will allow (avoid gparted and similar tools for this purpose, the Windows in-built partitioner should be adequate), then create an extended partition to house your Arch partition, swap partition, data partition, or whatever partitions you want.
    Yeah, I installed Mint from a mounted image in Daemon Tools, so that could explain it. I'll look into shrinking my Windows partition and seeing if I can somehow remove Mint from my Windows partition. I still have grub and all, if that makes any difference.
    there is a mint4win,  do you see something like this on boot? http://i.imgur.com/sPOMx.png
    Yep! I may have installed mint4win. Let me look into that.

  • Iphone 3g dead after installing dual level

    Hi all,
    this is really anoying.
    I installed ( or tried to) the application "dual level" from appstore.
    Then my IPHONE suddenly rebootet but it did not come up again.
    The screen shows the apple logo in the middle but nothing happes .
    I pressed the home button and the "standby button" on top to force a reboot - but still the same:
    After it went down, the apple logo shows up but nothing happes further
    Any suggestions ? I need my phone urgendly
    tia

    First do not connect THROUGH a usb hub. Make a direct connection into one of your computers usb2.0 ports. Now try holding the wake/sleep button or standby button as one of you called it, and the home button until the iTunes logo and the usb connetor cable apear on the screen. This will put the phone in recovery mode. Itunes should then recognize it.
    If that one doesn't work. Try getting to power off. Then with it plugged in still directly! Hold the wake/sleep button for five seconds. While still holding the wake/sleep button hold the home button for five seconds. Then realease the wake/sleep button and remain holding the home button. Itunes should recognize it in DFU mode.
    Restart your computer before you try those though, just to be sure your computer isn't acting stupid. They like to do that at times. Mostly when you are really not in the mood for it!

  • Using install dual iso 2012-09-07 - graphics issue? [SOLVED]

    I have made a bootable usbkey with the archlinux-2012.09.07-dual.iso
    file but having tried to boot it, both on an Inspiron 530s and also a
    Samsung Q35 netbook, there is a blue "graphics" screen but it does not
    stop and offer me the choice of i686 or x86_64 but carries straight on
    to boot to the normal prompt. So I can't choose which architecture to
    use for the install.
    Does anyone know a workaround to be able to get to choose which of 32
    or 64 bit to boot for the install? Or is there a problem with this new
    install media on some hardware?
    I have done quit a bit of reading but not seen this issue mentioned in
    any of the arch wiki or other google searches.
    Thanks

    This shouldn't be possible unless the iso, usb-stick or written data has been flawed in some way during processing...
    There's zero reason to use unetbootin for things like these; use dd to write the iso to usb and check both the iso and the written data to the usb-stick afterwards.
    I've made a shell-function which I use, that automates the above and which you're free to use also:
    Usage:
    $ iso2usb <file> <drive>
    iso2usb() {
    md2=$(md5sum $1 | cut -d " " -f 1)
    sudo dd if=$1 of=$2 2>/dev/null
    md1=$(sudo dd if=$2 count=$(( $(stat -c %s $1) / 512 )) 2>/dev/null | md5sum | cut -d " " -f 1)
    if [ $md1 != $md2 ] ;then
    echo FAILED!
    else
    echo OK!
    fi
    OK I tried with the dd method and it works perfectly... I will check back on the wiki and edit to ensure that a comment is included that the unetbootin method does not work.
    Thank you for the shell function - which I will use though I changed it so that the drive only needs defining as an argument as "sdX" and added in the /dev/ prefix in the function as per:
    iso2usb() {
    md2=$(md5sum $1 | cut -d " " -f 1)
    sudo dd if=$1 of=/dev/$2 2>/dev/null
    md1=$(sudo dd if=/dev/$2 count=$(( $(stat -c %s $1) / 512 )) 2>/dev/null | md5sum | cut -d " " -f 1)
    if [ $md1 != $md2 ] ;then
    echo FAILED!
    else
    echo OK!

  • Satellite Pro A200: XP + Vista installed/dual boot possible?

    Hi,
    I am not sure if I am right here at XP OS but I post it as it is OS related.
    My Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7) runs smoothly with XP but I want to create a sandbox (partition) for/with Vista.
    Basically I know that it is possible to run XP and Vista on one system. *But*, Satellite Pro A200 notebooks are shipped with a BIOS for XP and one for Vista and with information that you have to install the correct one. For me this means that you have to install BIOS for XP when running XP and BIOS for Vista when running Vista.
    Question:
    Is it possible to install Vista on a Satellite Pro A200 with XP as main OS and having so XP BIOS installed?
    Boot loader would be Acronis OSS as this loader already manage my two XP partitions.
    Many thanks for any information!
    Best regards,
    Andreas

    Hi
    In my opinion there are no serious reasons why you shouldnt be able to use Xp and Vista on your Satellite Pro A200.
    Ok there are different BIOS for Vista 64bit, 32bit and Win XP but your Vista should run also using the BIOS for Win XP.
    Ive got other Satellite notebook series and Im able to use XP and Vista at the same time. I mean Ive got a choice to boot either the XP or Vista ;) and Im still using the old BIOS version.
    Ok some functions are not available like FN keys but this is not very important for me.
    Well, to cut this story I think you can use Vista and XP without changing the BIOS ;)
