Install DVD won't start up

I can't install Leopard on my Mac Mini (1.83 core duo with 1gb ram). Everytime I start from the DVD I get a prohibitory sign -something like this: (\) (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106805) I think that support link is talking about starting up from the HD not the DVD, I tried everything suggested there.
Could this DVD media be broken? Tiger starts up fine from the HD and Windows too.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Wilfredo.

Well, It turned out to be a bad media (got a new one from the store). Now that I installed Leopard, I tried to install the new boot camp drivers to my windows vista partition, but nothing happens, no auto play, no windows files, nothing... Is this another bad media?

  • Win7 install dvd won't start on mac mini

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my mid 2007 mac mini (running snow leopard) in a bootcamp partition. I created the bootcamp partition (32GB) using bootcamp assistant (no problem there) and inserted the installation dvd, but once the mini reboots to start the installer I just get a black screen (symptoms very similar to those with the late 2006 iMac).
I tried using both the 64 and 32bit version but no difference there.
The win7 install DVD (bought, not downloaded) seems ok as installation as a virtual machine using vmware works.
I'ld really much prefer running windows in a bootcamp partition than through virtualization, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If it won't start past the screen with the Apple logo in the center, there's something very badly wrong with your system. Try starting in safe mode (hold down the shift key at startup, starting when you hear the startup chime and letting go when you see the Apple logo). If it starts up fine then (keeping in mind it will take longer than normal to start up in this mode, so be patient), but the problem returns when you reboot normally, you have some incompatible third-party software installed. What that might be is hard to say.
If safe mode doesn't work either, your system is probably badly corrupt. Try reinstalling. Hold down command-R at startup to enter recovery mode. Once you do that, go to Disk Utility and repair the hard drive. If problems are nonexistent or fixed, quit Disk Utility and then reinstall the system. (This will simply replace the existing system files, and should leave all your other stuff alone.) If problems cannot be fixed, report back for more instructions.

  • Flash Builder 4 Installed, But Won't Start

I installed Flash Builder 4. The installation completed without a hitch, but the application won't start. Here are the log files from \Local Settings\Temp and Adobe Flash Builder 4\.metadata.

Any idea regarding what I am doing wrong? I have Eclipse on my comp, but I have installed the standalone version of FB 4 trial.

    > Even if the trial has expired shouldn't the screen with buy now appear?
Yes, that's what I would expect too. Sometimes there are situations where previously installed Prerelease versions (beta versions from Adobe Labs) can interfere with that though, especially with multiple users on a given machine in a Lab setting.
    > I can requisition a full license from the sysadmin.
Good idea - that's probably your best shot at getting FB4 activated on that machine, without needing to re-image it. After you obtain an FB4 serial number, you should be able to enter it at install-time to activate the license.

  • [Solved] Fresh install; HAL won't start?

So I just finished a fresh installation and now I can't start X because HAL won't start up at all.
I haven't messed around with anything except for installing everything and fixing up my config files.

Ah, haven't been up to date on all the changes, it seems...
In the past I've had problems with the nvidia driver + Xorg without HAL, I think?
Anyhow, contrary to the Xorg page, I had no 20-nvidia.conf. I created that and now I'm able to startx without HAL but KDM doesn't work, the screen flickers when it attempts to start Xorg but then it crashes. Strange. Nothing in the Xorg logs either.
I'll have to see about that next, but it's nice to be able to get rid of HAL at least.

  • Problem: Burned DVD won't start at menu, starts half way through first video

    Hi,
My problem is that after burning my DVD, it won't start at the menu when I insert it in the computer. I get the beachball spinning for a few seconds and then it comes up about a third of the way into the first video. The image is distorted in 4:3 and then it rightens itself.
I have first play set at the menu. Everything tests ok in the build and preview mode. Can anyone help me fix this?
I am so upset because I had successfully burned this DVDs and sent them to the client after testing. The client emailed today to say both DVDs were smashed in the mail and could I please re-burn them. I'm supposed to deliver again at 9 am tomorrow.
    Thanks
    Carolyn

    We try.
Most of us have been in some of the same spots, and with the courier banging on the door, to deliver the final product to the client.
Though you say that you do not do authoring often, it is good to see that you are trying to do all the testing necessary, so that your client gets the best possible product. That is very important, and it shows that you take this seriously. All the more reason to try and help.
Good luck, and do not let the postman mangle the Project this time...

  • After I reinstalled my install dvd-wouldn't start?

One of the 3 users on my macbook pro, lost safari, I re-installed install DVD that gave 2 users back safari, 1 user has 3 safari icons, 1 now works. I shut down after finishing all processes, when we tried to start macbook pro it would not start. Had to use--power,command,option,p and r keys together. It started, then shut down before user screen, tried it again, it's on but I'm afraid to shut it off again. If we leave it idle too long the screen freezes(this has always happened) When all recommendations except one failed, what is left next $1000, repair? So frustrated, I don't understand what is happening. Would this be common after re-installing dvd or trying to re-install applications(did not work). HELP

I am opening the application folder at the bottom of screen I don't see safari. I can go to recent history and get on safari by clicking on the safari link saved in history. There are 2 safari icon on the screen, but when I click these it says it cannot open safari, and generates a report? I tried to update safari with updates but again it says it cannot open? I believe it was put in the trash and thrown away, how can I get it back-I only know basics, please tell me where to look for whatever process I should try, I really appreciate help, thanks

  • Macbook Leopard Install DVD won't mount

I want to perform an erase and install of OS X 10.5 on my late-2008 Aluminum Macbook. When I insert the "Mac OS X Install DVD" which came with my MacBook, it will not mount. The Macbook sounds like it's spinning up the DVD, but then ejects the install DVD within 20 or 30 seconds.
Any suggestions? To anticipate questions & suggestions:
    1. Yes, this is the DVD which came with this MacBook.
    2. Yes, this MacBook can read other DVDs.
    3. No, I don't have an external firewire hard drive I can copy this disk to.
Can I remote install this DVD from a Mac Mini running OS X 10.4?
    Any other ideas?

Well, the instructions are given for use with the MBA, but it should work on any recent laptop Mac that has a wireless network.
There can be any number of reasons. The optical drive is out of alignment, there's a motherboard problem, the drive's mechanical side is not working correctly, you have a corrupted OS X installation system, bad or marginal RAM, etc.
If you have another Mac with a dual-layer DVD drive and a blank dual-layer DVD-R disc, then you might try duplicating the disc on the other computer, then try booting from the duplicate. See:
    Duplicate a CD or DVD
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.

  • Install cd won't start

    Hi
I have a friend with a HP laptop. He tried to intall arch linux (it took a year to convince him), but the install cd doesn't start, it is just spinning and spinning and nothing happens. He did a bios upgrade recently, before he installed windows7. Last year he had Kubuntu on his laptop.
Next he tried opensuse, but the situation is the same.
He's never been able to boot from usb, so he is using optical disk.
I suggested to make a Load default in bios or downgrade bios, but method failed. Any idea?

Thank for all the suggestions. Unfortunately it's not only the arch linux image but opensuse install failed as well, however he managed to install windows 7. So it's probably not disk, odd or iso image problem.
The only thing I can think of the he tries to insert the disk upside down. Or similar

  • OS 10.5.6 install DVD won't work on my G4  running 10.4.11 - HELP!!

I recently purchased a retail copy of OS 10.5.6 and attempted to install it on my G4. The installer runs fine from the DVD but freezes when it gets to the initial "choose language" screen. Mouse and keyboard are completely unresponsive with mouse pointer stuck in upper left of display.
Note: OS 10.4 DVD boots fine, as well as my original AHT disc. Disk Utility & AHT have been run and both come up clean. Also zapped PRAM, etc.
I've tried everything I could come up with such as switching KB & Mouse to other USB ports, removing add-on cards, etc. with no luck whatsoever. Does any one have any tips, thoughts or workarounds? I'm fairly knowlegdeable but may be totally missing something. Otherwise, I just wasted 129 smackers...
    Setup:
    G4 QuickSilver - 2 x 1 GHZ (2002)
    1.5 GB ram
    Radeon 9600 PRO Mac/PC edition
    <No PCI cards installed>
    Apple 24-inch LCD display
    Apple USB Mighty Mouse
    Apple USB Pro Keyboard

For more (not good) news on this video card & Mac model combination, see http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/9600mac_pcedition.html.
I suspect that any video card that shipped as an OEM product with any Mac model that meets the Leopard system requirements (& is supported by the Quicksilver) will work. This is because the Leopard DVD will have the necessary video driver extensions for those cards, but not necessarily ones that support other cards. Searching through my /System/Library/Extensions folder indicates that the following types of OEM ATI Radeon cards should be supported, but there are no guarantees:
    ATI Radeon 8500
    ATI Radeon 9700
    ATI Radeon X1000
    ATI Radeon X2000
There are also a number of driver names associated with various nVidia GeForce cards, the other supplier of OEM video cards for Apple.
The "Catch 22" about this is that if there was a Leopard compatible driver extension for the 9600 available (which there does not seem to be), you could install one of the above cards, do the upgrade to Leopard, & add it to /System/Library/Extensions folder of your startup drive afterwards. Then, the Mac could boot from that startup disk with just that card installed ... but the Leopard DVD disk still wouldn't work for repairs that require booting from it.

  • Failed Windows install now won't start up in OS X

Hi all, I am trying to install Windows 7 on bootcamp. I have three internal drives. One brand new 1tb 7200 seagate drive that I just put in. Partitioned it for NTFS. Rebooted to the disc ISO but get this error 'status 0xc00000e9' on install which would be ok if not for the fact that I can't boot back into OS X. If I do a hard shut down and power on I hold option and it still boots back into the disc with the same failure. As well if I hold down X on restart it still boots me back into the disc drive as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm going nuts here.

Hello all got it fixed. I unplugged all devices from the tower except the keyboard and pulled out the sleds for the two hard drives that did not have my OS X start up on them. The option key then allowed me to chose startup disc. Not sure what variable it was that allowed this to work.

  • Just installed PE10, won't start up...

    Hello
I just bought photoshop and premiere elements 10. I installed both of them (Disc 2) and restarted the computer just like it said. I opened photoshop and that works fine. However, when I opened up premiere and went to the menu screen, I clicked "new project" and it doesn't even come on at all. I uninstalled and reinstalled it hoping that would work, unfortunately it still isn't coming on. I even made a shortcut to just start up a new project but that doesn't work. It keeps disappearing after it says, "Loading importer quicktime.exe", I downloaded the latest Quicktime update but still no luck. Hopefully someone can help me with this.
My laptop is a Toshiba C660.
    Windows 7 64-bit operated.

Around 93gb left on my hdd.
    Thanks

There have been a several similar posts from Toshiba owners recently. In all (I think) cases the problem was solved by installing the latest generic driver from the display driver manufacturer. However to allow this you must first remove the driver from Device Manager. If you don't you will just get an error message saying to go to Toshiba's own site. The exact text of this solution (provided BY TOSHIBA) is:
    Dear Mr Bray
    Toshiba Reference Number:
Thank you for your recent enquiry.
Please try uninstalling the present display driver and updating it with the latest driver from Intel, to uninstall the present driver please boot the Notebook to the Windows desktop screen, open the Start Menu and type Device in to the search line, select Device Manager from the list above where you typed. In the Device Manager click the arrow to the left of the line saying Display adapter, then right click the Intel display adapters name and select Uninstall. When prompted whether you want to continue the uninstall, make sure that you put a Tic in the box where it says Do you want to delete the software for this device.
Once the driver is uninstalled restart the notebook and download the driver,
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/2067 6/a08/Win7Vista_64_152252.exe&lang=eng&Dwnldid=206 76&keyword=%22HM55%22
Install the driver and then test the Adobe software, if you are still having issues please contact Adobe support at http://www.adobe.com/support/photoshopelements/  .
    Hope that works for you.

  • After Reader install - Vista won't start

I tried installing the latest release about a month ago and got the blue screen on start up before having to go through a system recovery which involved restoring to the point before installation. Since then I made do with Reader 7.0.9 although I always got the warning that there were incompatibilities with Vista (though I have found no issues using it). Yesterday last thing I downloaded and installed Reader 8.1.2 (the latest available) and this morning on restart I got the blue screen again before I did the same recovery involving an automatic restore to before the installation.
Given that I see others are having some issues with 8.x I think Adobe has a serious issue with Vista compatibility.
As a result of constant problems with Vista (certainly not just Adobe) I have started transferring to Mac - even though I have been a committed PC guy for years. I am more impressed with Macs than I thought I would be. Microsoft Vista has killed the PC for me as a reliable platform for my work.
However, they still play an important part currently in my day and I'd like to think Adobe and Microsoft could sort this current issue out. Any idea when that might be?

You may say that and believe it can't crash Windows Vista - but, nevertheless, Vista crashes on startup and Reader (as the only variable that has changed - I've experienced this twice so it's not a fluke) is the culprit in this situation - even though the issue may actually be something in the O/S!
This morning I recall something on the blue screen the second time I started it that referred to IRQs - I'm not sure that Reader uses interrupt requests but clearly it is triggering something.
As to getting a patch from Vista: I've had that experience with other programs - sorry to say occasionally unsuccessful and repetitive until Vista finally gets it right. This time it sent the report (after system restore) and I received no response at all. I have no 'weird' programs on this computer, only mainstream programs. While I understand how it could be true it's still very frustrating when one program says it's the fault of another and vice versa. No one seems to want to take responsibility, least of all Microsoft.
Perhaps I am just venting my anger at yet another conflict with Vista :(

  • Purchased games and trying to install but won't start installing or nothing.

Hi I have just purchased call of duty and GTA4 for the game to play on my mac book pro.
I went to download it from the App store and it did start downloading located down in the dock however, once the internet conncetion has been interrupted the icon of the 2 games which were saying it was downloading have gone somewhere and the icon has just disappeared. I went back to teh App store and clicked on the part where it says purchases. I found the 2 games I was trying to install. On the right hand side on the games, it says INSTALL.
I clicked it. ok what now? nothing happens. It doesnt even say resume downloading or anything. It just say install.
Click click. Nothing happens. Hwo can I resume the downloads again?

    Hi..
Launch the App Store. From the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > Check for Unfinished downloads.
If that doesn't help, try here >  Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads
If that doesn't help try this...
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

    Hi Trilby and all,
I don't mean to revive a dead thread, but I'm having the same issue with a new twist:
ryansturmer wrote:... running the NetworkManager executable directly gives me "Error while loading shared libraries: libnl-rout-3.so.201: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory"
    And _this time_
    pacman -Ql libnl
doesn't list that file, nor does https://www.archlinux.org/packages/core … bnl/files/. So it doesn't seem to be the result of user error (of course I'm guessing it is). Any help?

  • Tiger Install DVD won't boot on G5

I am trying to install Tiger onto a G5 with a blank internal HD. But when booting from the DVD (retail version), instead of a gray apple, I get a kernel panic. Some backtrace messages appear ending with "We are hanging here".
Some items mentioned in the backtrace include:
    com.apple.driver.AppleMacRISC4RPE
    com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily
    com.apple.driver.IOPlatformFunction
The weird this is that I CAN boot this computer using a Leopard CD. (I installed Leopard onto an external drive). Tiger was first installed on this computer when I upgraded from Panther a few years ago. I'm pretty sure that I booted from the DVD when I performed that upgrade.
I have tried booting from other Tiger DVDs: a version with 10.4.5, and a (retail?) DVD containing only a PPC install.
With the hardware, I disconnected all peripherals, removed a 3rd-party PCI card and removed all non-apple memory. Still no go.
Does anyone know what's going on here?

I've previously used that DVD to install Tiger on a G4. Booted without need to remove any hardware.
However, in the mean time, I found the original disks which came with the G5 (they contained version 10.4.4 -- not 10.3 as I first thought). I booted from those no problem.
So my immediate problem is resolved, tho it's still a mystery about that retail Tiger DVD.
    Thanks for your help.
