Install error, failed to initialize

Can not install Flash Player.  When I run the installer from the link on the main page I get an error that states "failed to initialize".  I have tried downloading and installing the 'offline' installer and it seems to run, but the program is not actually installed when I try to check or use the program.  I have also run all windows updates.  What should I try next?
Operating system: XP (32 bit) service pack 3
Browser: IE8 (32 bit)
Player Version: 11 (or any that will make youtube, etc. work again!)
Thanks

The installation process is probably being interrupted by your antivirus file scanner. Most security apps incorporate such utilities which spring into action as soon as you attempt to install, or uninstall a program. That has the effect of causing the installation to halt at a certain point and you're left somewhere in limbo.
What I suggest you do here is to find your AV app on this site and then use the instructions to disable it: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html
After doing that, download the Flash uninstaller from here: 32-bit Flash Uninstaller When you see the prompt, choose "Save" and save it somewhere you can find it easily afterwards. Do not choose "Run". Close IE8 before you run the uninstaller.
After the uninstaller terminates, reboot to clear the old Registry entries.
When the system reboots to the desktop, disable your AV app again, then go here to download the latest version: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
This time, when you see the prompt, choose "Run" to install it immediately.
Finally, re-enable your antivirus again.

  • "Installation Encountered Errors -  Failed to Initialize" -  help!

I am running an XP S3 box, 2.66 GHz with 512mb RAM and lots of memory.  Recently I tried to update my Acrobat Reader (Secunia reported my version was not current). Upon downloading, an error msg without a number came up as in subject line of this post.
"Installation Encountered Errors -  Failed to Initialize"
I uninstalled my current version of Acrobat Reader. Tried to install again but no luck. Same error msg.  I cleared the cache out of Firefox 6.0.2, tried again: ditto.
I have on my computer  installed an old version of Acrobat 5.0 (KWW500R7153013-348) that I bought in 2003 (I think)  so I unistalled that, then tried again. No luck.  So I reinstalled the old Acrobat, then uninstalled it. Same. Then I defragged my hard drive, restarted. Now I was getting frustrated.
I did a system restore to a point before I tried to update Acrobat Reader; no luck.  No matter what I do, AR will not install.  I've read all the KB articles at Adobe, but nothing seems to work. Can you please help?
    Mark

I had exactly the same problems, and it goes that because I wanted an English version of Adobe Reader, went obviously to adobe.com but because I am based in Europe, oh... this site decides to be so lame and Fail to Initialise and couldn't even redirect me by detecting my IP address, but could detect enough to not let me install a simple reader !!!
So this link is the link for European IP address users, http://get.adobe.com/de/reader/enterprise/ and then you just have to copy paste into translate.google.com to know what to do, and you can still download English or any other language...
However this is all lame and poorly organised for a company the size of adobe, and their help thingo was a complete waste of time, obviously it was only geared to the US !! Hello the rest of the world exists too.
Anyway hope this is of help, I even went to foxit reader and it's faster, but needed adobe for the pdf to be able to be opened in photoshop !!! aggghhhh these people and their control freakish *****

  • Cannot download Fallensword Helper Scripts. Getting "Script could not be installed Error: Failed to @require json2.js"

Hello, I did a drive eraser and reinstalled everything(to clean up computer), then when I got to reinstalling firefox I had a problem. I play a game called Fallensword. It has a script called Fallenswordhelper. So I installed GreaseMonkey, then when I tried to install scripts it said "Script could not be installed Error: Failed to @require json2.js". I have done this to my computer every year since I started using computers. I have never had this before. Please help me get a fix for this, for I google it and cannot find a answer.

This was a indeed a problem in Greasemonkey 0.9.0. It has been resolved in Greasemonkey 0.9.1, as can bee seen at [https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/closed#issue/1262 their site]:

  • Download Error - Failed to initialize

I have been trying to load Flash player and I get an error "Failed to initialize" at what appears to be approximately 50% completion.  Does anyone know what this is and what I can do to circumvent it?
    Thanks,
    Wayne

    Hi
Reason: Antivirus software from vendors like Comodo, Jiangmin, and Rising are incorrectly identifying the Adobe Flash Player installer as malware. False reports from these vendors include “TrojWare.Win32.Trojan.Agent.Gen,” “Trojan/JmGeneric.bcy,” and “Suspicious.” Users are also reporting “Failed to Initialize” errors and the installer is getting quarantined.
Workaround: Antivirus software vendors and service providers are currently addressing this issue so that the installer is recognized as being legitimate. Ensure that your antivirus signatures are up-to-date.
If the issue persists, use the direct links to download Flash Player installer.

  • Installation Encountered Errors "Failed to Initialize"

Unable to install Flash Player 11.  I keep getting Installation encountered errors.  "Failed to Initialize".
Followed all of the instructions under the "Troubleshooting" screens.  I temporarly deactivated my Norton Virus software.  I unstalled the old Flash Player version.   I'm using Window XP and Internet Exployer 8 on a 32 bit machine.   Now I have no version on my system and the new version will not install.
Please provide details for installation the latest version of Flash Player 11.

Try using the installer(s) from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550

You have a (some?) mismatches in the machine, probably in the filesystem, environment variables, and Registry.
    Recommendation:
Uninstall all Java installations. Remove residual files and directories.
Remove all classpath and other Java-related environment variables
Make sure that the path env is cleaned.
Edit the Registry - remove HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft
Scan (search) files for "java" or "sun" names and validate that the files found are one you want to keep, otherwise delete them.
Download a new copy of the offline installation version of whatever Java you want, and install - after reading the Installation Instructions.

I had this problem as well. I solved it by using an old Palm Desktop download instead of the one that Palm is providing now. My old copy was provided as a zip archive and the single file in the archive was named simply setup.exe. I guess the only difference between my old file and the file that Palm provides now has something to do with the installation software (it may be InstallShield; I don't remember for sure). In any case, if you are having this problem you might be able to find a usable file out there somewhere.

  • Error: Failed to initialize mediacore

Hi people, im having trouble at startup, im using AE CS3 and when crashes it throws me "failed to initialize mediacore".
Then the program runs but it kinda throw some artifacts in the project im working, like little black bars ruining everything, those also appear on the exported render.
I tried updating codecs and downloading the latest quicktime but nothing works.
CS3 is the only alternative because my partners are sending me AE CS3 projects.
Im working on windows xp proffesional sp3, mi proccesor is an Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2GHz, mi ram is 3GB, an my video card is an integrated onboard Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family.
Google doesnt help to much, only a few results came up.
Well thats it, anyone have any idea? dont be shy, everything help.

Apples and oranges. Even for AE7 Adobe never supported OpenGL officially, but since it used an older version of OpenGL, your chip set may just be sufficiently powered to deliver all the features. And AE7 did not have MediaCore... Anyway, could you just try to reduce the hardware acceleration level in your system generic display settings? Or perhaps there is some compatibility settings you can tweak? Down to the point: You problem is, that MC still thinks hardware acceleration is available and does not revert to software-only mode, which requires you to somehow convince it to do so by adjusting things outside of AE. If you are adventurous enough, maybe you can also download the CS4 trial and see if it behaves any better... As a last resort, you could also attempt to remove all MediaCore plugins from your Support Files folder (move it to a different location so you can restore it at any time, don't delete it!). This should, in theory suppress all functions handled by it (you will also loose the ability to deal with some of them entirely), but may prevent at least the rendering errors. you will still get the warning message, though...

  • Flash Player Install Error Failed to Register

So many questions about Error Failed to Register can you at least give us an estimate when it will be resolved?

You earlier replied that you tried all the solutions offered in this forum.  Most of the time over the last year or so the only solution we posted is to use the MSI installer http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_ 13_active_x.msi

  • Software Install Error: failed run: preflight script

I'm trying to install new software (the software instrument Trillian by Spectrasonics) but every attempt results in the error message:
"The following installation step failed: run preflight script for Trillian Disc 1 Core Library.
Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
I've tried everything I can think of with no result. I'm a Mac user of 18 years and can generally get myself out of the usual issues etc but I've never seen an error like this before and after trying the obvious have no idea where to start.
There's nothing on the software manufacturer's support site about this and apparently my tech support call will be answered "within three business days .
    Any pointers much appreciated.
(I've tried various drives, rebooted various times, done the permissions thing etc)

Thanks for the responses but the software is very much compatible with 10.6 (and is moving to 64bit this month).
Spectrasonics are rather slow to respond ("three business days" for a response to my call apparently !) and I can't find any solution in their support documents online.
The good news is that I discovered a workaround by logging out of my account and logging in as another user, it installed just fine that way, though it took a while to change permissions for my account.
The bad news that it's something in my user account, but I have no idea at what level.
Whatever it is is still there and I don't know what other effect it's having on my setup and and I can't find any fix or pointers about it anywhere, although I have found numerous references to users having the same problem trying to install software in OS X as a whole (not just 10.6).

  • Install Error: failed to register

    Flash 11.3 for ie9 on windows 7 64 bit won't install.
I have tried subinacl with reset_fp11.bat,  hand registering the ocx files (regsevr32), made a new admin account and tried to register flash there.... also tried .exe and .msi installers...
    No joy!
    Any other possible solutions?

Looks like you have already done everything possible!
There must be some registry permission problem that is not covered by the reset_fp11 procedure, but what?
If I were in your situation, I would try to observe the installation process using Process Monitor; that could possibly help to uncover what exactly goes wrong during the registration.
Run the uninstaller first, then download the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header
Start ProcMon, then set the filter to 'Process Name' is 'install_flash_player_ax.exe' (add), then run the downloaded installer.
You can save the output from ProcMon; let me know if I can help you to go through the (potentially very large) output; I will PM you my email address.

  • Failed to initialize the DBMS

    Hi All,
I have SAP MDM 5.5 with SQL server 2005. The MDM server is up (it shows the green node) and I have started the SQL server and SQL agent.
When I click on any of the repository e.g. vendor, and enter the user as Admin, then it throws the following error on pop up.
"Repository login failed, please try again.
Error: - The MDM repository is invalid"
When I click the DBMS setting, it gives the option of my local instance on the SQL server. Then it prompts me to enter the log path and the data path. After entering, it gives an error
    "Failed to initialize the DBMS"
The path for log and data file which I am giving
    Log file- C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\kolkata_mdm_log.ldf
    data:- C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\kolkata_mdm.mdf
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Jitender

    Hello Jitendra,
you have to define the Log path and data path as (suppose if you have installed the MDM server in C drive):
    C:\Program Files\SAP MDM 5.5\Server\Archives
or you can refer the guide avialable on SMP:
    For installation and configuration guides:
    https://websmp201.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700004121872006E.HTM
Also you can refer the Sizing and Performance guide for MDM 5.5.

    Hope this will help you.
