Install existing router in new home

What must I do to install my existing WRT54GS wireless router in my new home?
I suspect I need to set new IP address, MAC address, etc..   Just not sure how.     Thanks!

Connect the Modem to the router on the Internet Port and the computer to the router on the Ethernet Port...Open the set up page of the router by launching an Internet Explorer Browser and type the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as admin and click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings button. Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".Click on enable,Click Clone & click save settings.Check WAN IP on Status page of router .... If getting Valid Ip .... try going online. If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip address .....

  • Lightroom 5 - Re-installing existing licence to new laptop

    Hi there
I recently had an accident with my laptop.  It is now dead.  I want to re-install Lightroom 5 which I purchased as a download, I have the licence number.  I have attempted downloading via free trial, as per forum suggestions but this forced me to download Creative Cloud and would not accept my licence number, says it is not applicable that I already have it.  My understanding is that you can install the program onto two computers, as long as they both belong to the same person. I have spent a couple of hours fiddling around and am getting frustrated, can someone offer some advise please.  thanks in advance

This seems to be a fairly frequent problem, it seems to be hard to find the non-CC version for download and the CC version won't work with a non CC license key.
So, here's what I believe you need to do:
Uninstall the CC version you've downloaded and installed.
    Go to here http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
That should take you to the country-specific download page.  I know it says updates but if you click on the Windows or Mac version of LR it's actually the whole program
Download and follow the instructions for installation and then enter your serial number when asked to.
Stand-alone LR does not need de-activating, you can install it on your new laptop with the old number without any problems.  I've done it myself in the past as I've moved on to newer PCs.  CC and pre-CC Photoshop does need de-activation but not non CC LR.
    Good luck!

  • I just bought a mac book pro and airport time capsule. Which one should I turn on first to get it going. We do have an existing router and old PC in the house.

    Hi
I just brought home a mac book pro 13" with retina and the airport time capsule . What one should I turn on/ hook up first? We have an existing router in the home and an old PC.
    Suggestions?

Turn off you cable/DSL modem, your computer, and the old router. Disconnect the computer's Ethernet cable from the old router. Replace the old router with the Time Capsule. Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port on the Time Capsule. Connect the computer's Ethernet port to one of the LAN ports on the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable.
Turn on the modem and wait until the status lights indicate connection with the ISP. Turn on the Time Capsule and wait for the amber light to begin flashing. Open Airport Utility in your Utilities folder to configure the Time Capsule.
If a user guide came with the Time Capsule I suggest you follow it's instructions.

  • I am a fitst time user of the new airport extreme time capsule 2TB. I have a mac book pro and an imac. I installed the router today and got my computers online wirelessly. BUT I cannot get my previous wireless printers to connect with the router.

I am a first time user of the new airport extreme time capsule 2TB. I use a macbook pro and imac. I installed the router today and got on wirelessly. BUT I cannot get my 2 printers that were previously wireless to find the router signal. The worked fine on my current set up OS Mounitain Lion 10.8.4.  Apple tells me it is the printer mfr issue and printer companies tell me it is apple issue. Any help appreciated.

    Arguably, they're both right.
Changing your router changes everything, so your best course of action is to research the respective printer's documentation and determine how to reset them to factory default condition. Then, add them again using System Preferences > Print & Scan.
For that, I recommend you first "reset the printing system" according to these instructions: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Its instructions for Lion are identical to those for Mountain Lion.
As the article states, it will remove all your existing printers, leaving the Mac's printing system in a similar "factory default" condition ready for you to create a new print queue for each printer, which you should probably do.
Apple's printing support documents contain a great deal of redundancy, but this one may be a good place to start: OS X Mountain Lion: Set up a printer to print wirelessly

  • Need copper drop line installed at a new home I bought.

I bought a new house a little while back and inquired in email if my DSL would work through FIOS. I was informed it wouldn't but to call their service center and I would most likely be offered a deal, etc. I call and get an unfriendly\unhelpful rep. The price she offers me is still more than double of what I currently pay.  I send the below email:
    ==========================================
    Hello,
Let me start by saying that I have been a Verizon customer with the same phone number since I was about 18 years old....I am now 44. I've only had to call Verizon a couple of times during that time frame and when I did, found them to be friendly and helpful.
Recently however I bought a new house and wanted my DSL transferred over to my new property. I'm being told that I cannot do this as the previous owners had FIOS installed there. It seems while checking into things online that the copper drop wire can indeed be replaced back if you want to go back and forth arguing with Verizon for three months or more. I even saw an article online from a Verizon rep stating that he doesn't see why someone would want to go back to copper but if someone bought a new home and wanted the copper line put back in, that they would do so at no charge. So I am not sure why I was told this cannot be done previously.
Anyhow, I called a Verizon rep last Wednesday morning around 10:30am. I wish I would have written her name down and I could be mistaken but I think she might have said her name was Samantha? Either way, I thought she would be more than willing to work with me but I did not find her very friendly or helpful at all.  Verizon is asking me to get FIOS....which I DO NOT want. If you are going to refuse to re-run the copper line at my new property then I ask that you at least grant me FIOS service for the contract I have for my DSL. The women I spoke with said the bottom of the rung FIOS speed would cost me (edited)! That's outrageous! That's more than double of what I am paying now for something that I don't even want. I am a single man and am the only one using my internet connection. I just basically check email, Facebook, pay some bills online and watch a few YouTube videos. That's all. I find the speed of my DSL to be perfectly acceptable. I see no reason why Version cannot give me their slowest speed FIOS for the price of what I currently pay. I've been a dedicated customer for over 25 years and have been happy with my service until now. I feel like my business throughout the years has been unappreciated and for the person on the phone I spoke with, they didn't seem to care at all.
So in closing....I'm willing to forgo arguing about have the copper drop wire put in if Verizon would be kind enough to honor my current DSL contract with them and put me on their slowest FIOS speed for the same price. It seems fair to me and like a good compromise to keep a long term customer happy. Thank you for your time and concern in this matter.
    =============================================
I get a relpy back from a woman called Michelle. She tells me she spoke to her supervisor and gives me some price plans. The amount deal she gives me is more than what I was told previously and is more than an actual mailing (which I still have) that included both phone with internet! I'm then told I should call a service number and ask to speak to a supervisor. I tell her that I already called this number and got no where. She then says she will have a supervisor call me. I inform her that I work third shift, keep an odd sleep pattern which often means sleeping during the day and that I would prefer to handle this through email as it all seems simple enough to me. She tells me that she forwarded my email to a supervisor and they will contact me through email soon. I patiently wait two or three days and no reply. I email again and Michelle responds back with the standard textbook replies and tells me a supervisor will call me in 24-48 hours. I have to go through the whole process again on how I prefer to handle this in email this way we can both get back to one another at both our convience. For me personally, I don't have 24-48 hours waiting for someone to call me, nor do I want to be on the hold for a half hour and then arguing for another half hour or more.  So here I am, for the second time....days after I was told that a supervisor would email me in regards to my problem but yet I have still heard nothing.
It's not like I chose FIOS myself and now want to go back or anything. I merely bought a new house in which the previous owners wanted FIOS there....not ME. I see no reason why they cannot install the copper drop wire back or at the very least....give me FIOS for the price of my current DSL plan or at least something VERY comparible. I am totally put off that they would treat such a long, good standing customer so non-chalantly. While I would rather stay with Verizon, there are other options out there and I will pursue them if they continue to turn a blind eye to my problem.  You would think that they would want to keep me as a voice\DSL customer (even if it is for a lower contract price) rather then lose me as a customer all together. Should I decide to cancel my Verizon I most certainly will file complaints through the appropriate channels, contact my local TV "On Your Side"  team and possibly go as far as to consider small claims court for not honoring my current contract at my new residence\refusing to install the copper drop wire back. If Verizon truly does care about it's customers then I would love nothing more then to find someone willing to promptly help me in my situation. Thank you.

Be sure to reset your modem whenever you change what connects to it. Power it down.
Three days ago I went in to a bestbuy and bought a new 2013 Airport Express.
Is my Extreme a bad unit?
Did you purchase an 802.11n Express or an 802.11ac Extreme?
    Either way, update its firmware:
AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.6.4
    or
AirPort Base Station and AirPort Time Capsule Firmware Update 7.7.1
    respectively.
If it's still slow, return it. It's not normal.
Buy directly from Apple. The price is exactly the same and shipping is free.

Wait, I'm a little confused. On my day old iMac running Mavericks, do I install iDVD from my iLife 11 disk, or somehow copy the app from my existing iMac and install it on my new one?

The following may be a bit easier set up the new Mac with the same iDVD capability on your old Mac:
1 - copy your current iDVD application from the old Mac to the Applications folder of the new Mac. The latest version available is 7.1.2.  If you don't have that versoin go to the Apple Downloads site and download the iDVD 7.1.2 updater and run it on your current iDVD application.
2 - copy the iDVD folder that resides in the old Mac's HD/Library/Application Support folder to the same folder on your new Mac.

    Cannot get the Apple.. what?
Model and actual device you are talking about?
Apple covers a pretty huge range.. If you mean extreme.. did you reset it to factory and start over.. that is always necessary when you change a network. You cannot pick up a router from one home and network and plonk it into another and have it work.. aint gonna happen.
You also need to power down any pure cable modem for 20min or so to get it to forget the old MAC address that captured the IP so the Apple ??? has a chance to work.

Can I add a second router in my home by connecting to another FiOS coax outlet?
My existing, Verizon supplied, router is connected to a cable coax outlet on one side of the house and works fine.  With all the new A/V equipment coming out these days, I'd like to be able to network them.  So what I'd lke to do is put a splitter before my FiOS HD DVR receiver and connect another router right there for my TV, BLU Ray, Receiver, XBOX, etc.
Any tips, comments, or suggestions appreciated.

Don't want to do that ... while the refrigerator talking to the dryer has had the interesting side effect of automatically tossing my salads, my washer now insists on feeding my clothes to the ice maker which makes for either shredded or frozen clothes depending on the setting.  I can only imagine what would have happened if they networked my coffee maker and toaster as well!

  • Can't add itunes library to my ipod etc since installing itunes on my new computer. HELP!

I have just installed itunes on my new PC and am trying to add some songs onto an ipod.  The songs were purchases from the Itunes store.  I go through the process of drag and drop onto the device (its the same with my ipad and iphone) but it won't work.  Since installing itunes on my new computer I have bought an album off itunes and it downloaded with no problems - but any of my old purchases won't transfer over.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.  I haven't as yet transferred over my music libray from my old PC (songs that I burnt )  so not sure if it would be the same.  I would have thought that songs that have been purchased in itunes should easily transfer.  Help please?

Move the files for your new purchases out to the desktop.
Migrate your library properly from your old computer as given below.
Move the files stored on the desktop into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
    Migrate iTunes Library
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Cannot install office 2008 on new Macbook pro.

I have just received my new macbook pro 17 inch. I"ve installed the bundled apps cd, but when I try to install Mac Office 2008, I receive the following error:
Microsoft office for Mac can't be installed on this disk. newer-version-installed message.
I'm running Snow leopard 10.6.4 and have only installed firefox and AIM besides the software that came with the mac.
I've searched the Mac and cannot find any reference to Microsoft or office 2008. I've also gone through the "Remove office 2008 manually" from the Microsoft website and again have not found any files or folders they referred to.
Does anyone know what else I can do to solve this issue?

    Hi baltwo,
However, running Remove Office might do the trick.
I mentioned it anyway because I've seen posts in the past here where the same thing happened. The OP had manually deleted everything they could find, but still couldn't install without either running the Remove Office tool, or going the Draconian route and formatting the drive, reinstalling everything from scratch.
I think that happens if you've opened any Office trial app. It must put a hidden file on the drive somewhere that tracks your 30 day usage from there. If it does exist, then using the Remove Office tool is the only way to get it off the hard drive so you can install the full version.

  • Install archlinux on a new computer

I want to install archlinux on a new computer and install all the packages installed on my current computer.
Is there any way to make this work easier?
how can I  make the config file both in home dir and in etc dir the same?
Can I just copy the etc dir to my new computer?
    thx~

Yes, you can copy the whole dir, but you might end up with some unneeded files.  I would configure the new system part-by-part like you did for the first one, but with the adantage that you can simply replace the files instead of editing them.  Same thing for the "home" config files, just pick the ones that actually exist on your new system and copy them. And when you install a new program you can do the same with its own config files.  It's a bit more tedious, but it's cleaner and more instructive.
