Install Extra Content via ARD?

I've used the Adobe Application Manager 3.0 to deploy our Production Suite CS6 product to all the macs on our network, but I'm not sure how to do the same with the content for Premier and Encore. I've downloaded the DMG files from the licensing site, but cannot make a remote installer package.
Is there any way to install these remotly as well?

from your post i understand that you are not able to package fuctional content of Premiere Pro and Encore. please confirm my understanding.
If this is the case, did you try both installation/trial package options on welcome screen? ideally using any one of them you should be able to package these contents and i have verified with both of these workflows on mac. But i would recommend you - please try CS6 trial package option (on welcome screen - where you select package type), if you are getting stuck in CS6 installation package workflow.
please let me know if you were able to package and deploy these contents.

PRE 9- installed extra content from DVD, but still getting prompt?

I just installed Premiere Elements 9 from DVD.
I also installed the second DVD of extra content.
When I start up the PRE 9 program, I get a prompt warning me to "Install Full Content- a reduced set of content... has been installed. You can install the full content by inserting your content DVD or downloading it."
Even though I had already installed the second DVD of content (which was a LOT of content!), I put in the DVD again. This time, the installer wanted to REMOVE the content, so I took the disc out before going any further.
I am not sure if the additional content was successfully installed or not. If so, how do I get rid of that popup prompt?
When I have a project open in PRE9 and open the Disc Menus tab, there is a dropdown box of menus by filter, including Entertainment, General, Happy Birthday, etc.
If I click on Entertainment, for example, I have a choice of Art in Motion, Music video, Performance Star, Broadway, Popcorn, or Stage. There is a Main Menu and Scene Menu for each of them. Happy Birthday has Balloons, Birthday Party and Kids Party. Etc.
Do I have the additional content properly installed, or is there supposed to be more than this? If there is, how do I get the PRE 9 program to recognize what I already installed from that second disc?
My system:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
16.0 GB RAM
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor 3.20 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series graphics card

Want to Upgrade 27 eMac to Leopard via ARD.

How do I install an OS via ARD? I thought I need a .pkg but the Leopard install disc doesn't. If there is a way, and I'm sure there is, this would save me hours of installs...please help? I'm running a MacPro 10.5.6 and the eMacs are 10.4.11

AFAIK it can't be done via ARD - seriously think about it? Obvious question would be: How do you maintain the VNC connection when the client(s) has booted from the Installer Disk?
The best way to do this and if you have OSX Server is to use the NetInstall Service:

Once the image has been built, restart client macs holding down the 'N' key. Depending on the speed/bandwidth of your network all 27 macs should upgrade without too much bother.

I'm new to Mac, Just purchased the MBP Mid 2012 non retina 2 months ago.. and upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2
I'd like to Install Winows 7 via BOOTCAMP and have extra 1 or 2 partitions (ExFAT) on the same drive for my personal data, any advise on how to do this properly... I tried in many different ways but always ended up hitting the wal..

Deploy CUPS printers.conf file via ARD?

Hi all
Anyone have an idea how to push out CUPS Printers to Tiger clients using ARD 3? I have been trying to send out the printers.conf file located in /etc/cups to a few Macs, but after the CUPS file copies to its destination, print jobs error out with a generic "a printing error has occurred" message. I checked permissions, etc and everything looks good. I assume Im missing another file somewhere but am stumped.
Basically what I want to do is set my Mac with 5 AppleTalk printers from my LAN, and then reproduce those printers for 10 other Macs so that those users see the exact same printers I see in my Print Setup Utility. I don't want to have to set up the printers manually on each Mac. I figured it would be a no-brainer to just copy my "golden" CUPS file via ARD to the other Macs but I'm having no luck at all thus far.
Once the printers.conf file is copied to their Macs, They can "see" the new printers in their Print Setup Utility.app as desired, but they are unable to print to any of them ("printer error occured"). Rebooting doesn't help.
Facts:
All Macs and printers are in the same AppleTalk zone.
All Macs are on the same subnet and VLAN.
All Macs are the identical version of OS X and are from the same NetBoot NetRestore master image.
All Macs are running 10.4.7.
Users do not need to authenticate to print.
All printing is done direct to the printers - no print server is in the middle.
All Macs have the ARD 3.0 client properly installed.
All Macs are Power Mac PPC G5s with 1.5 GB RAM.
No users are logged into their Macs when I attempt to copy the printers.conf file (no users are printing or running Print Setup Utility etc)
All of the printers are PostScript/PCL HP LaserJet's with valid AppleTalk names and Zone info.
I can print to all of the printers just fine and my other Macs can print to them also when configured manually.
There must be a practical way to mass-deploy CUPS printer settings to my Macs via ARD. Obviously I'm missing a critical step. Any ideas?

This is possible, but you have to be very careful because one mistake will cause this to fail:
1. On your template computer system, reset the printing system via Printer Setup Utility then configure your printers.
2. Backup the following files, noting their proper POSIX permissions:
/etc/cups/printers.conf (root:lp, 600)
/etc/cups/ppd (whole folder) (root:lp, 755)
3. Use ARD to deploy the files in the following way:
a. Log out all users on the client systems and reset the printing system by executing Apple's Reset Printing System script via Send UNIX command as root:
/Applications/Utilities/Printer\ Setup\ Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/PrintingReset.sh
b. Stop CUPS (PrintingServices) before copying any new configuration files (Send UNIX Command as root): SystemStarter stop PrintingServices
c. Distribute the printers.conf file and ppds folder to the clients. You can either copy the items there via Copy Items, setting owner and group to root and lp, and issuing appropriate chmod commands via Send UNIX Command to set their permissions.
d. Repair Permissions (Send UNIX Command as root): diskutil repairPermissions /
e. Start PrintingServices again: SystemStarter start PrintingServices, and restart.
That should work. You can also distribute a printer list via the managed client, storing a printer list in the com.apple.mcxprinting XML file in an attribute mapped to dsAttrTypeStandard:MCXSettings in a computer (dsRecTypeStandard:Computers) account or group (dsRecTypeStandard:Groups) account. Account types from NetInfo, LDAPv3, or Active Directory will work.

Extra content not showing up in fcp

hello, when i installed my final cut i installed the 50+ gigs of extra content (sounds, templates, etc) on my second internal hard drive while the final cut apps are on my main hard drive. in final cut, under the veiwer generator pop-up menu there is a options for text, color bars, etc. there is also an option for master templates with an arrow by it. when i scroll to it nothing appears. does the extra content need to be on the same hard drive as the apps or do i have to tell final cut where the extra content is?

yes you are correct, there should be master templates in the FCP menu where you are looking ... the implementation of these is a bit, um, inconsistent, and while i can't find a place to set their location (to tell FCP where to find them), a search in the manual turns up some information on page 503 about where they should be ...

[Solved] Openbox's rc.xml error "Extra content at the end of document"

I have a rather silly problem with Openbox.
I'm not a programming genius so, for me, dealing with XML is a pain but I usually manage to get OB's menus and other docs to work. Ive been banging my head into a wall of xml trying to add my own entry to OpenBox's rc.xml file. All I want to add is an Xfce terminal centred on my Twinview desktop. I've done it in the past but right now I can't get the rc.xml file to work. Whenever I re-configure OpenBox I get the following message spit out at me:
Extra content at the end of document on line ###
So far, this is what I've attempted to get this to work:
- I have tried recopying a new rc.xml from /etc/xdg/openbox to my home directory's ~/.config/openbox. I was assuming I'd botched it entirely and started over from the beginning.
- I have cut/copy/pasted the commented paragraph, above my entry, with the same co-ordinates and with the "force position" set to "yes."
-I've googled this error but I only found one or two semi-relevant hits (from this forum no less!) Unfortunately I did not find a fix to the issue or a reason as to why this error crops up
I know that it's probably something that is easily missed but I honestly can't see it. I'm hoping someone on the forum will have run across this issue before and had it fixed. Below is a copy of my current rc.xml.

You can use whatever tool you prefer - for someone already using emacs, emacs is a natural choice. Simple, easy to use online tools exist e.g. http://schneegans.de/sv/

How can I 'login' as a different user via ARD?

It has been too many years and I cannot remember much of anything anymore...
My main computer is running the ARD admin app. I have a 'server' that has the
client software installed and setup to auto login to my admin account on the 'server'.
I can easily connect to the server using ARD... however I would like to connect
as a different user ( the postgresql admin account).
Is is possible to do this via the ARD software?
If I log out on my main admin account on the server while connected via ARD
then the remote desktop software on my main
computer reports that ARD in no longer active on the server client and I cannot access
the server via ARD without rebooting the server.
The help menu in ARD gives an Applescript that supposedly will allow a login from
the clients login screen but I don't seem to recall how to setup the client so
that one can access the server if the login screen is up...
I am running the latest everything...
In short-- Can I use ARD to connect as different users on a client machine? ( if so how)

I enabled postgres in the sharing panel.
When I log out I get the login screen and I can directly
login to the postgres account via ARD.

To get Document content via RFC

Hi forum,
I have a small bsp-application to show documents for a material-number stored in the SAP-tresor (via ftp).
The SAP-tresor is installed in the core-system, the WEB-AS is another server.
I developed a remote-enabled function module called get_doc_content_rfc. This function module reads some customizing to get all values for calling the function module CV120_DOC_CHECKOUT_TO_TABLE.
Now, when I call my get_doc_content_rfc in the core-system, I get the document content via the function module CV120_DOC_CHECKOUT_TO_TABLE. When I call my function module get_doc_content_rfc form the developer-system via RFC in the core-system, the function module CV120_DOC_CHECKOUT_TO_TABLE dosn't deliver the document content.
In the debugger, I can see, the function module CV120_DOC_CHECKOUT_TO_TABLE opens a ftp-connection to the server with the tresor and then reads the document content. Do I use my function module get_doc_content_rfc in the core-sysem, the ftp-connect can be established. Do I use my function module get_doc_content_rfc via RFC to the core-system, the ftp-connection opend by the function module CV120_DOC_CHECKOUT_TO_TABLE gets a time out.
Now, my question. what can I do, to get the document content via RFC from the core-system.

ARD only works with Windows computers if the Windows computer is running VNC server software. Even then it can only control and observe. Do you have this installed?

Unix command to update Microsoft Office 2008 via ARD

I'm looking for a unix command I can send via ARD to update Microsoft Office 2008. It just needs to install all updates and then restart. Kinda like apple's software update one: softwareupdate -i -a; shutdown -r now

Why go through all the trouble of trying to do it in Unix. Apple and Microsoft made it a LOT easier.
Just download the update from Mactopia
Open the .dmg
(for convience and ability to have it stored) Drag the Update from the Microsoft folder that opens up and put the update on your desktop
In ARD Select what computer(s) you want to install the update in
Use ARD Install function to install the update
Go have a cup of coffee and a donut while ARD does the install.
You do not even have to do a restart. Microsoft uses a different icon for the update but it still is a package file operation.

Adobe apps fail to launch after copying via ARD 3

For several years we have beeen updating our Adobe apps by updating our master image and copying (via ARD v.1, then v.2, now v. 3) the applications and the associated Application Support files to the target machines. (300 Macs running Tiger) Since upgrading to version 3 of ARD. Adobe apps fail to launch after they are replaced, even with the old files.
I found a post alluding to a known issue with Acrobat from June. It stated it was a known bug that engineering was aware of. THAT was the only mention I could find. Does anyone know anything more about this? This is critical for our publishing workflow - Adobe has two updates that affect us in critical areas that we need to implement, but are reluctant to visit 300 individual desktops (even remotely) and run individual install patches.
The silent install works great for installation, but does not address updates.

Using Adobe CS3 app's via ARD?

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to use the Adobe CS3 design app's via a VPN connection. I have a client who's office will be physically inaccessible for 2 weeks plus, but their computer and internet connection will be functioning normally. I've tried and succeeded in setting up a solid VPN connection, and can remotely control her machine via ARD, screen sharing (10.5.x) and VNC.
The problem arises when trying to use some of the finer control tools within the app's. Specifically, the pencil tool. I get random starburst type rays across the pasteboard. I've checked to make sure that no specific brush strokes are selected. If someone at the office uses the machine with all the same settings the pencil works fine. I've had intermittent success using the pencil in InDesign, but Illustrator and Photoshop consistently give me bad results.
Any thought would be much appreciated.

First: if you have CS3 on your computer and do not have the install disks then you are in violation of the software license.
Second: Minor bugs in Photoshop and Dreamweaver. PS gets slower and slower the longer you work in it.
Last question: probably not as the installer puts files in various places.
The operative answer is the first one. You are on your own conscience.

Installing optional content on a different hard drive

Hey, I'm about to install Final Cut Studio 5.1 on my computer and i have a quick question.
Will installing the optional content (Apple loops, fonts, tutorials...) on a different drive than the boot drive that i am installing Final Cut Pro on, negatively affect the performance? The drive that I am considering installing the content on is a 300 gb 7200 rpm firewire external hard drive.
Actually, one other question. The external hard drive can connect via either USB 2.0 or firewire. I realize that USB 2.0 is faster so i assume i should use that connection. Is this correct?

You should be fine installing the optional content on your external drive. If you plan to use the drive for media storage as an FCP scratch disc, connect via Firewire. While USB 2.0 may be faster, it transfers data in short bursts (packets) and FCP requiress a sustained date rate that Firewire offers.

Extra Display with ARD

When I login to one of my clients (Powerbook G4) via ARD, it has two displays which show in ARD. They are not evident when the machine is being used as a standalone. This has the effect of hiding windows etc. I have partly solved it from a user perspective by mirroring but want to get rid of the extra display. Am trying to reset NVRAM etc, but need to do it from afar.
Any other thoughts.

I just tried this with my 12" G4 Powerbook.
I set up a second display, and then controlled it using Remote Desktop on my iMac. While ARD was active, I removed the second display and noticed that the application windows I had on the second display did not move to the main display, and I could still move my mouse to the second monitor. The only way I could see the "phantom" display was via Screen Sharing or ARD.
Luckily, a simple reboot with the display disconnected seems to have resolved the issue (no resetting of NVRAM is necessary).
Going the other direction (ie, removing a display from the imac, which is running SnowLeopard), seemed to work fine. After I removed the second display the windows moved to the main display and ARD displayed the correct window.
