Install failed - won't reboot off the Windows CD in order to "re-format"

My installation went OK until the reboot failed. The error I get is "Disk Error - press any key to restart" but it won't restart with a key press. Nothing. Have to power down / restart - hold Option - etc.
How can I reformat the partition so that I can boot into Boot Camp, when I remove the disk and try this I get the same thing.
If I put the Windows CD in and start with the "C" key pressed it just restarts the installation (3rd time).
Any ideas ? Am I confused about what is supposed to happen ? Either way, I'm stuck.
Thanks,
Ed

Well, I used a Vista CD instead and it seems to have worked. Although not by the book. Seems OK though.
I think my XP CD wasn't bootable for some reason.
Thanks,
Ed

My Droid X won't reboot past the M logo.  I have tried taking my battery out and it still doesn't work.  Any suggestions?

You may have to do a dreaded factory reset.  Follow the second method in these instructions from Motorola using the Power button and Volume rocker.
    https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/63875/~/droid-x2---master-reset-%2F-factory-data-reset
Be aware that a factory reset will delete all of your data (SD card will be safe though).  If you have your contacts backed up via Google gmail or Verizon Backup Assistant they will be safe too.  But you will have to download and install all of you apps again as well as set up your email and social apps.
If a factory reset does not help try removing your SD card and repeat the factory reset.  If that doesn't work, seek professional help (Verizon tech service) or get a replacement phone.

  • My 2nd gen. ipod touch won't get off the 'slide to open' screen and it won't slide... Shows lock symbol at top.  What do I do to fix it???

My 2nd generation ipod touch won't get off the 'slide to open' screen and won't let me slide to open.  It shows the lock symbol at the top.  This is my first time to have one so I'm a little lost... Is it fried or is there a trick to unlock and get it open?  Yes, I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff and I have no manuel to read and learn from.  Someone please help!!!!

    - First try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults.

  • Boot Camp Question .... I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp. If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.

  • Can't activate after latest iPad upgrade. Advises me to go to iTunes but it won't get off the error screen.

Can't activate after latest iPad upgrade. Error message advises me to go to iTunes but it won't get off the error screen.

I am the original owner of an ipad and it woke it yesterday requiring me to activate it using the original apple id used to set it up.
It will not accept my apple id and password.
It does not show up in my icloud under devices.
I have tried hard restart (home + power) and itunes recovery.
I am out of ideas and have not found anything for original owners (as opposed to someone who bought it from someone else).  I did see some posts from last year where a few people had the same problem and took it back to apple and got a refurbished unit given to them since customer service and engineering couldn't fix it.  I was wondering if this was related to the recent ios8 upgrade. Anybody else have ideas or same problem before I hike down to the apple store for mercy?

Thanks Fred. So I bought Snow Leopard, also installed ALL updates to now 10.6.8
Problem: when I start my Boot Camp (3.0.4) it does not let me use a USB. I have been reading your article that I can be on a later Boot Camp but somehow Apple is not leading me where to actually download this Boot Camp Assistant upgrade.
Keep in mind: every update on Apple about Boot Camp has been .exe which is useless to me since I do not have Windows installed.

  • Installing Windows 7 on my bootcamp partition (mid-2009 mac book pro with mountain lion) My computer won't boot from the Windows 7 Install DVD.

    Hello,
I have been trying to install Windows 7 on my macbook pro (mid 2009, MBP53). I have successfully created a bootcamp partition using the assistant. When the computer tries to boot from the windows 7 install dvd, the screen is just black. The dvd spins for a bit, then stops and the computer is just black (no blinking cursor).
Any advice would be very appreciated.
    Thanks.

What kind of an install DVD are you using for Windows?
You can use any DVDs that are hardware specific. Only the full non-hardware soecific DVDs work on the Mac.

  • Bootcamp Install Fails - Does not Reboot

    Hi,
When installing windows7 64bit via usb using bootcamp, it is successful at partitioning, but does not reboot when necessary.  No message is displayed indicating that bootcamp failed.  When I manually restart the OS, it simply restarts in OSX.  Why am I having this problem? And how can I manually force it to resume?
    Thanks,
    Domenic

I should also mention, I have a 3rd hard disk with Windows XP installed (all of these are internal in the MACPRO). The same thing is now happening there as I have just checked. The Bootcamp control panel does not instigate to boot into Mac OS X either. So how can I get this control panel to write to the EFI (if this is what it is called?) to boot into the correct selected partitions? I should also mention I can see the Windows 7 and the The Windows XP respectively displayed in there. But I cannot get to boot into either of those either by selecting them from this control panel. It is stuck booting into it's own OS disregarding my selection. I don't think it is 'talking' to the EFI anymore and writing what it should to it (or to bootmgr or something)? What can I do in this case?
What does bootcamp.exe actually do? If I could delete the current list it has stored and get it to rescan even though everything is exactly the same, just reinstalled Mac OS X by erasing the partition on the main drive, which I'm guessing this is why Bootcamp.exe does not write the appropriate command to boot into my OSes?

  • OS X won't boot but the Windows 7 partition works perfectly?

About two days ago, I switched on my iMac only to find it was creating a very loud fan noise and both the windows partion and OS X Snow leopard were not working, they were both freezing on load up and just generally having prolems. After a couple of minutes or so (after many reboots), windows 7 started working properly again. I haven't tried to use the OS X untill recently. My problem is that OS X probably hasn't been working since the loud fan noise that day. It won't finish loading up, it gets to the stage where the apple sign comes up and the swirly circle underneath appears, then it seems to load endlesslyc(I have left it like that for many hours and nothing has happened). Booting up from the disk at the boot up preferance window also doesnt work, it just goes back to the circle and logo screen. What can I do?

  • QT 7.4 install fails - You do not have the appropriate access privileges."

well.. first off.. hope this right forum. It's happening qith a Quicktime 7.4 install but its not Quicktime issue..
Got the 7.4 Software Update along with 2 others (iTunes was one). I'm on my Mac, logged in as the admin, only account on the machine.
The two other installs downloaded and installed fine. In the SAME INSTALL session the QT 7.4 reported "You do not have the appropriate access privileges."
I've ran permissions fix with Apple disk util and OnyX, no help, install fails and reports same.
    Here's the Console:
    1/26/08 6:26:23 PM Software Update[3382] arguments=(null)
    Model Name: Power Mac G4
    Model Identifier: PowerMac3,5
    Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
    Processor Speed: 1 GHz
    Number Of CPUs: 2
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 2 MB
    Memory: 1.5 GB

sorry for the sys confusion I simply forgot to set ox version on the reply. I'm installing from the Software Update on the Mac, so... software update is choosing what to install, not me.
I have fixed permissions using Apple Disk Util and Onyx. Several times, repeated, and from startup disk, backup system clone, and the install CD. All complete showing a few items as "file changed, did not fix."
I really don't care that much about getting the QT 7.4 update but it really bothers me that I'm having this problem. The problem concerns me more than not having the update.

  • MBP Won't Run Off the Battery

I've had my computer for a little over a month, and the other day it stopped running off the battery. Everything is fine when I have the AC adapter plugged in, but the computer won't start up if it is disconnected. I ran the computer off the battery more often than not before this started happening. I removed the battery and put it back in a few times, but that didn't help. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks!

Mine did almost the exact same thing.
A few days after the update, it started registering 32 hours of remaining charge (33500+ MhA), and one day, all of a sudden, the battery just died.
Mac OS says there is no battery installed, obviously it won't charge or run on battery power, when I press the LED button it does nothing. It's just dead.
My machine is almost 2 months old... I called Apple and complained about this whole thing, because my machine has almost every other defect out there, including the whine, the almost unbearable temperatures, the moo, and the LED buzz... so I told them that enough was enough and that I wanted a new machine.
They just said I sould drop it off at the Apple Center, and THEY would decide if should get a new machine.
I feel so terribly frustrated. How is it possible that you spend $2000+ Dlls on a machine that after just 2 months does all these things, and still be treated unfairly, like an idiot, with arguments like "It's our decision if we replace the machine, or repair it..." ??
This is just not fair. But what can we do, right?

  • IMac won't reboot past the apple screen. 2009 10.6?

My iMac wont reboot past the white apple screen! What do I do?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
