Install failing on user creation...
Ok,
So I went ahead and figured I'd try installing on just one hard drive to make sure the rest of my system will work. The installer gets started then 'Installation failed, check logs'. I look at the log file and this happens:
-If I put in a username and password for myself it gives:
Cannot create 'username' in /etc/passwd, please check shadow something
-If I don't put in a username and password it gives:
No username and password given for user
And thats it, lame failure, any suggestions?
Sam
I went through the process again making sure I hit each prerequisite for the Grid Control install.
It seemed to have failed again on the Repository Creation Assistant. Below is an excerpt of the log:
Getting temporary tablespace from database...
Found temporary tablespace: TEMP
Checking SYS Credentials ... OK.
Checking DB Init Parameters ... OK.
Checking for Repos User ... Does not Exist.
Loading necessary DB objects ...

Done Loading necessary DB objects
Creating repos user ... Done.
Creating EM Schema ... Failed.

Configuration assistant "Enterprise Manager Repository Creation Assistant" failed.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
We have an exisiting OBIEE 10g installed on AIX-64 bit and DB2 9.7.
We brought it down and have started a fresh install of OBIEE 11.1.1.6 under a new Filesystem.
While Installing OBIEE 11.1.1.6, the Install errors at Configuration Step when it tries to create a Domain.
Here's the extract from the log :

OblixAnonymous user creation failed
Hi all !
during the installation of POlicy Manager. at the culmination of Product Setup. i got this message at the bottom
During creation of these policies 'OblixAnonymous' user creation failed. Before enabling these Policies please create 'OblixAnonymous' user.+
what is the purpose of Oblix Anonymous user and will Policy manager work without this user?
Best RegardsSure, OAM works just fine without the OblixAnonymous user. However, what might also have happened is that the policies automatically created by OAM to protect the admin URIs /access and /identity would have not been created or only partially created. As long as you're OK with that, your OAM install is completely functional.
OblixAnonymous is the user the credential_mapping plug-in binds to for the Anonymous authentication scheme that is auto-created. You can always create one later if you need one to "unprotect" a URL.

We are having a customized Portal Admin screen where we do the following together:
1. Group Portal creation
2. Group creation
3. User creation
When I do all this together, it fails with an error :
"<Error> <VisitorUserManager> <415380> <EJB Exception: : javax.transaction.TransactionRolledbackException:
EJB Exception: : Exception com.bea.p13n.usermgmt.UserManagementException: User
TESTUSER was not found.] at com.bea.p13n.usermgmt.internal.UserManagerImpl.getUserProfileManager(UserManagerImpl.java:238)
This is at the statement :
<vum:createUser userName='<%=userName%>'
password='<%=password%>'
profileType='<%=profileType%>'
groupPortal='<%=currentGroupPortal%>'
/>
Now, if I separate this screen into 2 parts where 1) & 2) i.e Group Portal & Group
creation are done in one screen while 3) User creation is done in another screen,
it works fine!!!
This is very wierd, it looks like some kind of transaction needs to be committed
but I am unable to figure out how to do this. Any pointers appreciated!!
Thanks,
SLNHere is more detail from a more recent try at creating a user...
From the system.log on the file server:
Feb 25 09:11:53 fsserver2 DirectoryTools[23708]: copyDirectory(en, /Network/Servers/fsserver2.xxxxxxxx.com/Volumes/uservol/Users/elviragonzales) failed with 1
From the LDAP logfile:
Feb 25 09:10:10 dbserver slapd[71]: Entry (uid=untitled_1,cn=users,dc=dbserver,dc=xxxxxxxx,dc=com): object class 'posixAccount' requires attribute 'homeDirectory'
Feb 25 09:10:10 dbserver slapd[71]: entry failed schema check: object class 'posixAccount' requires attribute 'homeDirectory'
User's home directory gets created in the proper place but with wrong owner and group. Owner ends up being root and group ends up being admin. -
DIS Install fails to find notes.ini if multi-user notes install
Yesterday I attempted to install the WebCenter Integration into a Citrix image and it fails with the error 'Error 2343: Specified path is empty'. After some experimenting on a physical machine I have been able to confirm the installer program fails if the Lotus Notes client has been installed with the multi-user option (what we require) but succeeds if it installed as single user. With Lotus if it's installed as single user the data directory will be in the program install directory, if it's multi-user then it's in the user's profile. . Looking at the installer log you can see it can't locate the notes.ini file when it's a multi-user install.
Install Notes as single user then switch to multi-user, there is a section in the guide here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/doc.1111/e10624/setup.htm#DISUS147 that tells you how to manually edit the Notes.ini file

"Login Failed for user" in Standard Report Creation Wizard
I am trying to create a report using the report wizard in CR 08. When I choose new connection ==> OLE DB(ADO)==>Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server and enter the Server and user ID (no password), I get the error "Login failed for users".
SQL State: 42000
[DataBase Vendor Code: 18456]
I was using CR 10 and called the 1-866 # and was told to try it wil CR 08 and Im getting the same error. I know the log on information is correct because I use the same server name and userID to login with SQL Server management studio and Visual Studio 08.
Please let me know what I can do to link CR to my SQL Database.
Thanks,
JohnHow is your user accessing the site?
Did you extend it to a different zone, and if so what authentication provider are you using for that zone or is it the same zone?
Looks like the domain is a workstation name? are they logging in with valid credentials for the WIN-IMH9QUCN1FU workstation, which may be different than what they usually log in as?

User equivalence check failed for user "oracle" while running cluvfy
Hi All,
I am getting User equivalence error as follows while executing cluvfy. I want to install CRS on this server.
oracle@node200$ ./runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n node200,node201,node202
Performing pre-checks for cluster services setup
Checking node reachability...
Node reachability check passed from node "node200".
Checking user equivalence...
User equivalence check failed for user "oracle".
Check failed on nodes:
node202,node201,node200
ERROR:
User equivalence unavailable on all the nodes.
Verification cannot proceed.
Pre-check for cluster services setup was unsuccessful on all the nodes.
I have sucessfully configured ssh and able to do ssh from all the nodes without prompting for the password. Also oracle uid and gid on all the servers are same.
I also checked in .kshrc file and there is no tty entry in that file. and I have also setup /etc/hosts.equiv file on all the node.
I still get the user equivalance error. Can anybody help me in this ?
Regards,
Raj.Hi,
thanks.
i need some more help because first time i am working on RAC,
i am also having User equivalence check failed for user "oracle"
i got two machines, one is IBM machine and one is DELL machine installed with solais 10 (AIX installation). both machines are not connected by private network now. and no shared external HDD available now. it will take one week time to set up the HW. the user equivalence check depends the above two factors?
now public network is available and node reachability test "passed"
could you please tell me what may be the reason for the user equivalence check in my case. details are given below
i have oracle user in both machine. user creation done through SMC. home directory is /export/home/oracle
the following are the details.
1) $ ssh pc000905 id -a oracle
Enter passphrase for key '/home/oracle/.ssh/id_rsa':
uid=100(oracle) gid=300(oinstall) groups=301(dba)
$ ssh pc026376 id -a oracle
Enter passphrase for key '/home/oracle/.ssh/id_rsa':
uid=100(oracle) gid=300(oinstall) groups=301(dba)
2) user nobody exists.
3) all files n .ssh directory have same permissions.
4) ssh and scp is working with out password(rsa and dsa keys generated).
5) oracle user is using bourne shell
6)soft link of /usr/bin/ssh and /usr/bin/scp are created to /export/home/oracle/bin
7)ForwardX11 is "yes" in sshd_config
8) created a config file in .ssh directory and ForwardX11 is "no" in that file
8) umask =022 in both nodes.
error displaying is

The installer certainly thinks that you still have a previous ConfigMgr client installed. Perhaps you haven't completely removed it. Use ccmclean.exe from the SMS 2003 tool kit.
If that fails, why not just rebuild the server - you've said that this is a fresh install. I don't like too much messing at the beginning. This can be difficult enough - you need to start with a clean installation of the product.

"[DBNETLIB] Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection"
After patches applied on patch Tuesday the database reports the above error.
All accounts are domain accounts and SQLServer uses Windows auth.
DCDIAG show no errors
All servers and DC have been restarted,
Message in db log confirms the connection is being denied due to trust.
Event log shows same rejection
Protocols enabled: named pipes, tcpip, memory
TESTS:
PortQry: "
TCP port 1433 (ms-sql-s service): LISTENING"
Connect with domain admin accounts works from multiple clients systems to DB.
Cannot connect with newly created domain admin account
Can connect if new admin account connect to server in terminal server session and uses UDL wizard or any other tool including isql.
New standard user also fails to connect.
NOTES:
I removed the SSL patch and the IE security update to see if that was an issue.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯Has someone left the company or has an account of some nature been dropped/replaced?
Please click "Mark As Answer" if my post helped. Tony C.
Hi Tony,
Srry but No. We just installed the monthly updates.
I went back and found I had missed removing a patch. I missed the rollup for Windows Server 2003:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: NtServicePack
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4382
Date: 3/12/2015
Time: 12:26:04 PM
User: NETTEST\admin
Computer: DATA1
Description:
Windows Server 2003 KB954920 was removed from your computer, and the previous Windows Server 2003 configuration was restored.
After I removed that is still didn't work but after about five minutes it started working.
I guess I ned to report that to MS after I research what might be changed to make the patch work.
Every time I get stuck and ask for help it seems to be just before I stumble on the solution.
Thanks for replying.
Well - maybe this will help someone else.
Thanks again for replying Tony
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Family Pack Leopard install fails G4 Dual 1.2Ghz
All, I purchased the Leopard family pack and have successfully installed it on an Intel Macbook Pro and a G5 2.3Ghz DP machine - flawless, no problems during installation or after.
However, any attempt to install on a G4 Dual 1.2Ghz + 2Gb of RAM + just bought a Seagate 500Gb Barracuda internal drive (well within the designated technical requirements), I've tried the following.
1. Booting the G4 off the Leopard install DVD, I get the following error: Failed Install message = "The Installer could not validate the contents of the Essentials Package...".
I can never get beyond this point. After receiving this error, the internal disk isn't even recognized on the bus - I have to pull the disk out, put it in an external case to reformat it. I've even tried a low level format and also had Seagate replace the disk thinking it was defective.
2. I then thought it may be an issue with putting the Seagate disk in cable select mode versus master / slave configuration. The Seagate is the only hard drive in the machine. I have tried both cable select and master/slave configuration - both freeze after install, etc. without fail.
3. Tried installing Leopard on the G4 by connecting it to the G5 in target disk mode. It installed, but routinely just freezes (NEVER had this issue with Tiger on this machine).
I do see lots of people posting issues with the "The Installer could not validate the contents of the Essentials Package..." error.
For the record, after successful Leopard install using technique #1 and #3 - I am also unable to run the Migration assistant - it fails every time with a kernel panic. I'm not having any trouble with the Leopard install media on any of the other 2 machines, nor did I have issues running the migration assistant.
Any ideas are appreciated. thx, themdg - you said you put back your 2-512 original RAM cards and tried to install Leopard and the install failed. But my original, factory-installed RAM was third-party RAM which prevented me from installing Leopard, giving the “essentials” error. Only when I purchased RAM from Apple, and used only that RAM to install, could I get it to work correctly.
Check your original RAM. If it is not the Apple brand, it may not work because of that, even if it was the factory-installed RAM.
After I installed Leopard with only the Apple RAM, I added back the third-party RAM and I’ve been running Leopard flawlessly since.
It seems the installation software, which meticulously checks the installer disk for flaws, should also check the RAM to see if the installation will be successful (i.e., check to see if it is going to produce the “essentials” error) and also check to see if you have enough valid RAM to install, before it begins installation, and to let the user know there will be a problem unless the RAM is changed to valid cards.
I “assumed” I had enough valid RAM when I first tried to install Leopard because I had a G5, but it had only 256 MB of non-Apple brand RAM (minimum of 512 is required). A direct check of that by the installer and letting me know it was a problem would have saved me a lot of trouble checking lots of other potential problems, like a bad installer disk, a third-party drive, etc., before I figured out it was insufficient and incompatible RAM for the installation.
I read the minimal requirements for installation of Leopard and probably someone will say I should have checked all those before I tried the installation, but I didn’t, as I’m sure many others have not, because we “assume” Apple had tested it and would prevent us from making any mistake like this.
Previously Apple made their software and hardware to “just work” by providing error messages before we made an error and we have come to rely on that. But they overlooked this problem on this update. It’s the first time I’ve had a problem with an update from Apple.
I’m still a loyal Apple user, but I’ll check requirements a little closer with future updates. -

I followed the oracle documentation:-
Installation Guide for Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) E12002-02 October 2009
now we are going to 2011 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there another newer Installation guide from oracle?
thank youGood question, rozester.
I encountered this problem also, while trying to install the SSO MRCA 10.1.4.3.1 on 64-bit RHEL5 (though it's at version 5.7 but I'm positive that won't make any difference to the result).
This may or may not match your situation, but when I looked in the log file $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/repca/log/repca_<datestamp>.log, I saw what was probably the reason behind the error:
<$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I think I remember seeing that the link operation during installation had failed, but I hoped it would be OK. And it possibly would have been, if I'd remembered to specify the destination database Oracle home rather than the SSO MRCA Oracle home when prompted (on the page where it asks for database home and log file path). Perhaps then it would have used the sqlplus binary from the database oracle home, and since that one definitely works, it might have worked. But before I thought of that, I did a workaround; I installed the SSO MRCA on a 32-bit RHEL5 box (using the same directory paths) and copied the shared library files to the 64-bit box's shared library directory via scp as follows:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib; scp -pr * oracle@rhel64box:$PWD/
When I re-ran $ORACLE_HOME/runRepca, it then worked without error. Another thing I could have tried is just running runRepca on the 32-bit RHEL5 box, and that probably would have worked too, but it probably would have been a lot slower compared to running it locally on the destination server; it's takes quite a while as it is.
Hope this helps. I'm sure it'll help me if next time I do this I forget what I did before and go searching again ;-) -
Reports successfully execute but generate a login failed for user 'sa' err
I am running Crystal Reports Server XI R2. Classic ASP is used to generate embedded reports within our application. The crystal reports use ODBC to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database. The reports successfully generate in our Classic ASP application. However in SQL Server 2005, the following error messages are being generated each time a crystal report is ran:
- Login failed for user 'sa'.
- Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 8.
We know that we are passing the correct username/password to the crystal reports, becuase they execute successfully.
It appears that when the report is called, Crystal Reports appears to conect to SQL Server using a username/password that we didn't provide it at execution time, this fails and the SQL Server 'login failed for user' is generated. Then it runs the report using the username/password we provide and it successfully generates a report.
I have ran Profiler against the SQL Server Database and the 'Login failed for user 'sa' ' errors have a ApplicationName of either 'Seagate Crystal Reports' or 'Crystal Reports'. Therefore I know it is Crystal Reports generating these errors in SQL Server.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop these SQL Server 'Login failed for user 'sa' ' errors being generated? What happens if you use Profiler when running the report using Crystal Report Designer?
If the report is ran through Crystal Report Designer, NO 'Login failed for user' error messages appear in profiler. Everything looks ok when ran in Designer.
Also, need to know what patch level you are on?
We are running Crystal Reports Server XI Release 2, Version: 11.5.8.8265
No additional patchs have been applied since Crystal Reports Server was installed.
We may try the SA account if one of the connections fail to log on with the credentials you provided. Verify the user you logged on with has rights to all tables.
The reports were running through our application using the SA account. The SA account has permissions to these tables. The reports do generate results and appear perfectly fine in the application. The issue is that when our application requests the report from Crystal Reports Server. Crystal Reports Server delivers the correct report to our application. However during the process to generate the report, 'login failed for user 'sa' ' errors are being generated in SQL Server 2005.
Also, I have tried creating a completely new SQL user called 'crystaluser'. I ran the report using Crystal Report Designer and used the crystaluser logon and saved the report. Then I ran the same report through our application. SQL Profiler will then display 'login failed for user 'crystaluser''.
Its seems as though Crystal Reports Server is first executing the report using the default SQL user saved with the report, but is either sending a blank password or no password at all. This generates the 'login failed for user' in SQL Server 2005. But it then uses the SQL username/password my application gives it and successfully generates the report. Of course this is only speculation. -
Sql Server 2012 Login Failed for user "NT Authority\System"
I have installed SQL Server on a new server. I have been getting the following error on each of the database in it.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database 'ABC'. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]
Here is some information on the instance:
1) Default instance
2) SQL Server, Sql Server Agent, Sql Server Reporting services are running / log on using a domain service account.
3) Sql Server Browser is disabled.
4) SQL Server VSS Writer is running / log on as Local Service.
5) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM does exists in Login with just public server roles.
I ran a trace on login failed and I get:
ApplicationName: Microsoft Windows Script Host
and it runs every 15 minutes.
Help please?Hi,
The error was thrown when the SCOM components connected to the backend SCOM databases.
You can specify a domain account, grant it the sysadmin role and the error should be gone.
Also, see the replies in your previous thread:

Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool' on SQL Express 2012
I am new to both ASP.NET and SQL Server.
I have IIS8 installed on my Windows 8 PC, together with SQL Server Express 2012. Given my ignorance, I have just set everything up using default values.
I have a very small web site set up in its own folder and set up in IIS 8 as a virtual folder under the default web site. I have also set up a very simple database called 'StockControl' via SSMS, which contains one table called 'Colours' which has two columns.
One page in the website is a simple ASP.NET form which runs on localhost without any problems.
On the second page in the website I added a GridView ASP.NET control, letting Expression Web 4 generate the connection string and place it in a web.config file. I tested the SQL query and the connection as I went along and both came back as successful. So
far, so good. However, when I try to run the page in the browser I get the error message:
Server Error in '/' Application.
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool'.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool'.
Source Error:
An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.
Stack Trace:
[SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool'.]
I have spent two days trying to find out what I have done wrong and even uninstalled and re-installed SQL Server just in case i'd totally messed up and corrupted the database.
I would really appreciate some help please.I changed the IIS default identity to NetworkService and got this error instead
Unable to open the physical file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\StockControl.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)".
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\StockControl.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
There is nothing running that is using the database.
I have also set a login up for the Apppool and set the user mapping to the database but the problem persists,
What is so infuriating is that a week ago I had several pages in this website that displayed, inserted, updated and deleted records on this database using ADO as well as ASP.NET running just fine. Then this problem came out of nowhere.
