Install Failure! Can't Upgrade without Upgrading first!

I need to be running 10.3.9 to use my new Nano...
I ordered Tiger 1.4 but it only came on DVD (without special ordering the CD and waiting... I don't do waiting well...)
So, I ordered a new Lacie CD R/W and DVD [read only].
It reads the DVD, but when I click on the install icon, it ejects the DVD and tells me the media is not readable...although it just read it.
Seems I need to upgrade my Firmware for the DVD Reader...
I downloaded the Firmware upgrade from Lacie, but it says I have to be running at least system 10.2 in order to update the firmware!
So, I can't do the upgrade without the firmware and I can't load the firmware without the upgrade...
Any suggestions?? Do I just have to order the CD and wait??? Thanks

Well, the wait for a CD copy of the software seems to be "forever" as indicated by the .pdf order form. First you have to print out the order form and wait for your DVD to arrive. Then mail the order form by snail mail with payment and proof of purchase of the DVD. Then wait for Apple to return it to you...also by snail mail...AND the order form indicates that all orders for CD's must be placed by YESTERDAY. "Orders must be postmarked by December 20, 2006."
I have not tried to boot from the Firewire port. Sounds like [from you] that that would not work anyway. The USB two port DOES recognize the DVD and read it but will not boot from it...but it seems to indicate that the DVD should boot IF I can only get the Firmware upgrade to load.
I may just have to find someone locally who owns 10.2 and install it long enough to upgrade my drive so it will read the 10.4 install. Big problem is that I'm relatively new in the area and don't know many Mac Owners.
I guess I should have ordered an internal DVD reader. So many of the DVD readers will only operated with G4's and higher these days that I just ordered the first one I found that actually claimed to work on a G3.

I have Final Cut Studio 2, which I've never installed. Can I upgrade it to the latest version of Final Cut Studio, or would I need to buy the latest version?
    Thanks, Caoim

As an alternative, you could purchase FCP-X, which isn't an upgrade; it's a completely new application.  To quote Apple; "It's revolutionary!"  To quote me; "It blows!"
BTW, Final Cut Studio 2009 was also known as FCS 3.  You might be able to find an upgrade version on ebay or craigslist.

  • Can I install PS CS5 and LR4 without uninstalling first?

Could not uninstall PS CS5 and Lightroom 4 on a Windows platform due to computer crash. Need to intall now on a Mac platform. I have original DVDs and product keys. What is the procedure in this case. Thank you.

    you're allow two installations/activations.
and if you've already use both you can request an activation count reset, http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html
but your ps cs5 is not a cross-platform product so you won't be able to use your pc serial number with a mac installer.  lr is a cross-platform product so your pc serial should also work with your mac installation file.
if you need the lr 4 mac installation file and if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-lightroom-4-is-out.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

  • I need to update to 6.0 but it doesn't work--I've tried several times and it never gets past the stage of "connecting to update server"--so how can I update without uninstalling first and losing all my bookmarks and passwords?

I have a MacBook Pro with Lion. Every few days Firefox will tell me, "you really need to update to 6.0," and I say, "yes please!" but then it says "connecting to update server" for ages and ages and nothing ever happens. I wouldn't mind uninstalling the old one and downloading a new one, except that I have lots of bookmarks and passwords saved, and I don't want to lose them all. So what's going on, how can I update?

Thanks, but, using the "free" version of Reader, there is no opportunity to open nor import the xml data - the menu options do not exist - there is no import listed.
If we try to open the xml file directly, then we get an error - something to the effect of "unsupported file type, or the file is corrupted".
I just noticed in my Pro version that there is the command File ->Form Data ->Import Data to Form... command. Is this what you are referring to?
What do you recommend? Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to purchase a few copies of Acrobat Pro for the reservations people to use? I was hoping that the free version of reader would do it, but perhaps not?
    Thanks again,
    Rob

  • Can I upgrade directly from ColdFusion 9 Enterprise to ColdFusion 11 Enterprise without going to 10 first?

Can I upgrade directly from ColdFusion 9 Enterprise to ColdFusion 11 Enterprise without going to 10 first?
For those who have done this,
    1.  What quirks did you find that you had to overcome in your installation (I know that everyone's environment is different and produces differest results)?
    2.  What part of your code broke for which you had to find fixes?
Tips and suggestions for a smooth installation, besides following the installation document.
    Thanks!

Create a car (archive file) in CF 9 enterprise which will capture all CF 9 settings like Data sources, Web services etc. Make sure when you are doing this, pop up blocker is disabled.
NOTE : While creating the archive file, give the full name with the absolute path in the package name. For example C:\Test\mypackage.car
Then move this car file into the server where you want to install CF 11. Install CF 11 and then  deploy this archive (car) file. All CF 9 settings will be migrated to CF 11 enterprise.
Else, if you want to install CF 11 on the same server where CF 11 is installed, then remove the connector for all the websites which are configured with CF 9, make sure the CF 9 services are running and then run the CF 11 installer and at the end of CF 11 installation, you will get a dialogue box which will ask you to migrate CF 9 settings in CF 11.
Run the Code Analyzer in CF 11 Administrator to check whether any the CF 9 code used in your application is breaking in CF 11 or not

    No.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.

    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • Can I upgrade to Lion from OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)?  Do I need to install Snow Leopard first?  If so, Which version?

Can I upgrade to Lion from OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)?  Do I need to install Snow Leopard first?  If so, Which version?

There are only two versions of Snow Leopard, the ordinary one and the server edition.  Most people have no need of the server edition.  Any Snow Leopard retail disc, no matter how old, even 10.6.0, can be updated to 10.6.8, so the version is pretty much irrelevant.  You need to make sure your hardware is up to scratch for Lion though - you have to have an Intel processor, Core 2 Duo or better - NOT Core Duo.

  • Can I upgrade the OSX V 10.7 Lion to another operational system without risc to lose the instaled programs?

How can I upgrade the Mac OS X 10.7.5 to better operational system?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and try downloading Yosemite from the Mac App Store. If you get told that it's incompatible, your computer can't be upgraded past 10.7.5.
Upgrading the OS always carries the risk of losing data that hasn't been backed up. It isn't possible to foresee all problems associated with this.

  • Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is trying to backup data from the iPhone.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support.  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my phone?

Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is backing up data from the iPhone before installing the new operating system.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support with no success.  I still get the error everytime (about 5 minutes into backing up iPhone data).  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my iPhone (the error message says that if I continue I will lose all data on the phone)?  If I have already synced the phone before upgrading the OS, would I be able to restore my data after installing the new OS by syncing after the OS upgrade is complete?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

  • I have mac OS X 10.5.8, can I upgrade to OS X Lion without going through OS X Snow Leopard?

can I upgrade to OS X Lion without going through OS X Snow Leopard?

    Yes.
Instead of upgrade, you can do fresh install Lion into another partition and so you would have multiboot 10.5.8 and 10.7.
If you wish to use the the exisiting 10.5.8 partition to install 10.7 Lion, you can first create a 10.7 DVD. And use the 10.7 DVD to do installation instead.
Here is how to create 10.7 DVD.

  • Can I upgrade from iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5 to iPhoto '11 on my Macbook Pro (10.6.8) without upgrading to Lion? or iPhoto '09...

Can I upgrade from iPhot '08 (ver 7.1.5) to iPhoto '11 on my Macbook Pro (OS 10.6.8) without upgrading to Lion or iPhoto '09?

You should only get that message if you are attempting to install the same version of iPhoto that is already on your computer.
Should you upgrade your current version of '08 (7.1.5) to anything higher, including '11 (9.2.1), it will upgrade your current library with all your photos and not create an additional application or library.

    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
    Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive has failed. You may be able to salvage the mechanism by removing it from the enclosure and installing it in another one, or in a drive dock.

  • 1. can i install a SSD? 2. can i upgrade (install new) usb 3 hardware to replace current USB2.0?

To installing a SSD, yes, it is possible. See this link to read more.
There are also quite a few YouTube videos on the process.
To the second, no, it's not possible to replace USB 2 with 3 without replacing the system.

I have an apple iMac G5 running Mac OS 10.4.11 can i upgrade it to 10.5?
If so will i also loose all the software currently installed on my Mac? eg. Adobe software.
I have moved countries (opposite side of world) so i do not have my install disks, or the disks that came with my Mac.
Where can i get the 10.5 upgrade from?
Do i need my original disks that came with my Mac?
    - Thanks if anyone can help
    Note:
I have never had any problems with my G5, it's been my awesome helper these past 7 years, I can't say the same thing for my new Mac, but it seems now my poor G5 is slowly being made redundent because they no longer write software for it.
I don't see why i should pay for a new Mac because my old one does not always function on the web, or having a new printer because it does not support the new software.
My New Mac Laptop has had no end of troubles since i bought it less than a year ago.
What happened to Mac being a sign of Quality??

First off, all upgrades can potentially break a system.  First and foremost, backup your data before installing anything.  Next read this tip as 10.5 loses Classic compatibility, and has these other issues outlined on the tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275
