Install failure on PPC G5 help please?

Hi There..
Running a duel 2ghz powerPC G5 with 3 gb ram and a 143 gb hard drive. We just bought logic studio and I am trying to install it. We had OS X 10.4.8, so the logic box told me it needed 10.4.9 minimum. So I software updated to 10.4.11 and installed. Well the install failed and it told me to try again. I did... it failed. I did again... it failed.. then I got grey screen of death (multilingual shut the front door screen) So...
Installed a clean OS X 10.4 whiped the drive. Upgraded to 10.4.9, installed quicktime 7.2, installed the projectmixI/O's drivers.. and installed Logic Studio...
FAIL
FAIL
FAIL... the failures are getting faster... or closer to when I start installing.
What can I do? Does my drive need cleaning? Or configuring? Is the disk ******? Am I doing something wrong with my OS?

Just tried to boot off drive with techtool pro... it sits on the apple... now.. I know Im supposed to give it 10 minutes or so to boot.. but last night, I came downstairs after 45 min.. and nothing.. started again.. and 30 min later.. nothing... and I am doing it again right now. I have downloaded a demo of Drive Genius and am conisdering loading it on.. to see what it can do. But I guess the idea is to boot from the cd to check the drive.. it probably can't check it self. There is only one hard drive in this machine. (Which I'm about to change).
Anyway... I guess its off to the apple store after real genius...

I have tried uninstalling Flash and downloading the current version from the web. I always use the factory discs for installing CS 5.5. When I start AE it crashes if I try to minimize it and Dynamic Link makes it crash too. If I drag a video file into AE and ad the Warp Stabilizer it crashes before it finishes. Using a new i7 2820q, 16 gig RAM. System meets all requirements. HELP!

Can't install firmware v20 on n97 help please?

hello,
i've been trying to update my phone for the past 10 hours and it's not worked in either NSU or OVI suite.
In OVI suite it gives me an internal error, phone not detected and NSU tells me to plug my phone directly to the pc even though it is. Can someone please help me with this?

Not to sound rude, but plugging it into a different USB does nothing.
Re-installing everything does nothing.
FIX OVI so i can update my N97!
FIX NSU so I can update my N97!
Make a phone that doesn't need to be corrected 4 times Nokia.
Your USB Hub Errors/Internal Errors are all indications you have no idea what you are doing.
Don't make customers use these products when they don't work for everybody.
There are literally thousands of pages of questions, complaints and pleas for help from all around the world.
You people have not answered them, or more importantly, fixed the problems.
Why even offer these discussions?
Nothing becomes of them obviously.
Even though people have paid good money, and usually alot of money, to have one of your products, the least you can do is offer people help.

I rang one of them, telling them I cannot update my N97 to V20 using OVI or NSU.
They HAD NO IDEA what I was talking about.
They suggested I re-install the programs.
Yeah, did that. Did nothing.
It is your programs that are the problems.

Rectify these issues with NSU/OVI and the N97 immediately.

Partition failure! Require URGENT help please!!!

Okay so I was just using the Boot Camp assistant to install Windows 7. During the set-up process, Windows reported that the partition disk which I made (30 GB partition, FAT32) has to reformatted to NTFS. As a result, I changed my mind and wanted to remove the partition as I thought this process would be too complex for me!
So I went to Disk Utility and clicked on my hard disk and then selected the partition tab. I removed BootCamp partition by clicking the "-" sign and pulled down the Mac Hard disk back to its original space. But I didnt notice the "Apply" sign over there and just closed the Disk Utility!
Now its showing less hard disk space!
Here's what the problem is:
Originally
1) 320 GB hard-disk with 260 GB free space (all before partitioning the disk)
And now after removing the partition and my HORRIBLE mistake,
It is a 286 GB hard-disk with 239 GB left.
Please people, I really love my MacBook and I don't want to cause any harm to it!
Please, please help me get my Mac to get back to its original hard-disk state!

Ipod touch required software not installed although reinstalled 3 times, help please

I had an ipod nano and itunes work fine, i bought new ipod touch 4G and connected it to itunes and get a message that say this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again. i have done this 3 times with latest itunes but still the same message ad ideas? Any help would be appreciated thanks

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Today I receive a message from nokia with the new ANNA ... i tried to install it using the nokia ovi suite....
...first step : backup ...ok...
..but next ...a problem....keep in the middle of the instalation...retry....and finally it returns a error : 12017...
...I look for this error and its description is : Device is not responding...
...now i try to reebot the device..and don't reboot ..don't do anything...
please...any way to reebot? any way to go back to the previous software (backup finished ok at first step)???

The 'byte-range requests' issues applies to the server hosting the episode media files, not the feed. It arises because this is the method used by iPhones - effectively requesting part of the file at a time: not all servers can accept this.
Your only options are either to speak to the people running your server and ask them to implement it, or to host the media files on another server having checked beforehand that it will accept byte-range requests.

Powerbook HD Failure... HELP PLEASE!

I've had a bad problem with my HD, here is the story:
I was on Safari & iTunes & Adium at the same time. For some reason, the music I was playing would go on and off, and I started getting the multicolored wheel. Sounded also like the drive was working hard... like there was an invisible program running (but there wasnt). I figured I would reboot, and the problem would stop.
So on the reboot, my powerbook became really really slow. The startup was really long (15mins)and I would say 20x the normal speed at which it usually worked. Opening the Finder window to run backup took like 5 mins. I tried backing up onto my Firewire disk, but it froze during unfortunately.
I ran the Install CD, used the disk utility and checked. The Verification failed and so did the repair. The SMART check also fails. My computer not cannot recognize the harddrive and I can only run through my firewire disk & CD. But I realized that through the portable hard drive, the system runs much faster than it originally did on my Hard Disk.
I never heard and strange sounds or ticks. The only thing I heard was that it sounded like my drive was working really hard. Or copying files, or fragmenting, etc.
What I'm most worried about is data recovery since I havnt done an update in a while. If this is a software related problem, will I lose my data? What could it be? Or is it a hardware related problem?

edit: I did a hardware test and there was an error detected. But the hard drive was actually scanning for the error.. so I guess the drive isnt DEAD.

I'm a little confused. You say that your computer will not detect the internal hard drive (and was showing all the symptoms of a failing/failed drive) and then a hardware test detected an error.
Finally you said "the hard drive was actually scanning for the error..." Can you clarify this? How is the hard drive able to 'scan for the error' if it cannot be recognised/booted? What are you using to do this particular scan?
Generally drive failures with the symptoms you describe will not be software related and ultimately the drive will need replacing. However it is quite possible for the drive to 'seemingly' be alright again for a period of time (this can be anything from a few days to, potentially, a few months) - but will then fail completely, and probably without any further warning.
Anyway, jumping a little further ahead, if you are going to attempt some form of data recovery yourself then the application you will need is Data Rescue as well as an external FireWire drive with plenty of free capacity for DR's temporary files whilst it is attempting to recover your data.
The demo on Prosoft's website will allow you to scan your drive but will only permit the recovery of one file per session. Hopefully this will be enough for you to gauge whether there's any hope of recovery (and if you need to purchase the full product).

I have an old hard drive from a ruined computer attached to my new one but i cant find my old bookmarks which i want to install on the new machine. help please!

my old computer was running vista, and i had hundreds of bookmarks in many folders, but i cant find these when exploring the old drive. I presume i cant use the import facility as i wouldnt be able to access the firefox browser itself on the old drive, but i was hoping the bookmarks would be stored somewhere accessible

I shut my firefox browser on my new machine and attach the hard drive from my old machine. I can explore the contents of that drive but when i search it for the suggested folder " %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\" nothing is found. when i try and open firefox from the old drive, the browser opens that is the new version that i have on my new computer with no saved bookmarks! Am I doing everything right?

Problems installing windows xp !! help please

when setup stops and asks "to set up windows xp press enter " the next screen says"setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" setup cannot continue! ive checked and done all i can think to do now for 3 days! my hard drive shows up in bios to be just fine. what do i need to do to install windows xp? thanks

Go to the BIOS, under config, change the HDD mode to COMPATIBILITY. Your HDD should now be seen by the installer CD. Upon installing all the drivers using System Update, you can put it back to the default option.

Mac OS X Leopard install disc -- optional developer installs -- help please

Hello. I have a question that I've been looking to have answered for a long time. Within the install disc for Leopard, there is a folder called Developer or something like that, and inside it are the installation packages for Xcode Tools, Web Objects, and Dashcode. I have installed these three packages on my computer (I am a computer programmer -- I have very little experience with Mac programming, but I want to get started with learning). Anyways, in addition to these three installation packages, there is a folder called Packages, and inside this folder are about twenty installation packages, with names like X11, WebObjectsDocumentation, gcc, java, and SDKs and earlier versions of Mac OS X and that kind of thing. My question is -- what are these? Are they separate from the things that the Xcode Tools package installs, or are they all included in that package? If I'm going to be developing on the Mac, are these things I am going to need? Any info in regard to this will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

They are sub-packages. The main XCode installer will install all the components by invoking the individual installers. The packages are separated in case you want to install the individual components (e.g. just install X11 without all the other parts).
As to whether you need them, that's only something you can answer based on what you're trying to do.
There's no harm in installing them even if you don't intend/expect to use them, other than eating a little disk space.

Installing Flashplayer to Linux, need help please

Ok, so I'm a windows xp person, I am new to Linux/ubuntu
system setup thing... anywho I have been trying to watch youtube
and get on to sites that require flashplayer, etc. It isn't letting
me watch vids, so I do not have flashplayer, and when I went to
read the instructions on how to download it, It was all gibberish
to me, this is my first time ever using a linux so can someone
explain to me how to download it? Im new so you may have to include
every single detail, and tell me where to go, etc. Thank you so

I received three files in Microsoft Outlook in a PDF format. When I clicked on open I got a window showing "Opening Mail Attchment" and only open from "trusted" sources. After opening it displayed a window for File conversion with Windows as the default with Western European( Windows) as I assume the font. The file was shown but had essentially meaningless characters and numbers with maybe the occasional meaningful word. There seems no way to understand why this happened or to correct it. Can you help please

Cant install Beta CS6 in Windows7, help please

I have dowloaded the window files 3 times. They appear as a bunch of zip files and any attempt to unzip them is unsucessful.
What am I doing wrong?

When you download the file, you should only have one zip file that is 1.7 GB.
Download Photoshop CS6 beta for Windows (ZIP, 1.7 GB)
I usually put the zip file on the desktop. Then right click on my zip file, I select extract all, and select a folder on the desktop. I then open the file and click on setup.exe to install.

How to format external HD and install software on it? Help, please?

When install programs on my Mac there is only one option for installation - on the internal HD, the other drive plugged in the computer appear with exclamation mark - ie they are not available for installing anything on them.
I want to be able to install some small programs , or a web browsers on external drive , just to see how they works, etc.
How to format an external HD or USB flash drive (if its size is enough)
so it is possible for install a program on it instead on the internal hard drive?

That's the theory. Note that you'll wipe the external drive in the process, so if there's anything you want on it, get it copied elsewhere first. It’s always wise to back up any important stuff on your MacBook of course before doing anything like this (but not to the drive you’re about to use!)
With the drive connected, open Disk Utility, highlight the external drive in the sidebar (that's the drive itself, usually listed by the manufacturer's name and the size of the drive). Select 'partition' in the tab bar, ensure the drop-down on the right is set to 'Mac OS Extended (journaled)', give the partition a name in the box above that (like 'ext HD' or whatever). Click on the 'options' button below the diagram and select 'GUID Partition Table' (very important - it won't boot SL with any other setting). then click the 'apply' button.
Once that's done, close DU and insert the 10.6 install DVD in the MacBook (or whatever the Mac is). After the licence agreement there’ll be a picture of Macintosh HD, but underneath should be a button saying ‘show all disks’. click that and select the external drive, then click install and follow the instructions.
Note that if you do this with the grey install disk that came with the computer, you will only be able to boot that computer with it, as it’s model specific. If the install DVD is a black retail one, it should theoreticaly boot any Mac (but note the licence conditions).
Once the install is complete, boot from the external HD by either selecting it under ‘startup disk’ in Sys Prefs, or by holding down the alt key during restart and selecting the drive from that screen. You can then install any progs you want and try them out from there. (don’t forget to reset the startup disk when you want to reboot from the MacBook).
If you don’t have a DVD, or you want a duplicate of your existing system, go with the clone idea, using CCC (not because it’s better than SuperDuper, but because it’s free if you don’t mind putting up with a few ads while it’s working!)
