Install FCP HD on new Quad G5

I just recieved my new Quad G5 and am having problems installing FCP4 HD.
Originally I started with FCP1.25 on my G4 then bought all the upgrades. Now I can't install FCP 1.25 to begin the upgrade process again on the new machine. Installing the OS9 support module on the G5 lets me install FCP 1.2.5 but not start it to enter the original serial number.
After installing FCP 4 and trying To open the app I get a message that hardware or software is missing (I am presumming they mean the original FCP 1.2.5 and its serial number)
Any sugesstions?

You're right, it's not funny it's silly.
If I'd just spent 4 or 5 grand on a new computer and my 1 year old version of FCP 4.5 wouldn't install, I'd be a little upset. Especially since it's a fix that Apple won't tell you about or provide themselves. Instead, you have to inquire here to get an answer from people who want to help, but who aren't even sure they should answer in case it violates the Terms of Use.
When I bought my 1st generation dual G5 I didn't even think to ask if FCP 4.5 would run on it (negligence on my part, perhaps) but I'd bet the farm that the majority of Apple Store employees would not have known to tell me if it wouldn't.
Sorry, but it's the silliest thing I've heard since Apple told me that if I wanted to install FCP 3 on my PB, I couldn't use the upgrade disks I'd purchased, I'd have to buy the full OS X version. Why? To circumvent the fact that the PB was not built to boot in OS9 which was required to install the original FCP software.

  • Can't install FCP on my new MacBook Pro

I just realize that I can't install FCP on my brand new Macbook Pro. Does anyone knows of any solution that would let me install FCP. According to the notes FCP will not install on Intel Core Processors.

It would be useful if you -
    A. told us what version of FCP/FCS you are trying to install
    B. told us the error messages you received
In the meantime, Final Cut Pro 5.0 and earlier are not supported on intel macs. Time to upgrade. If you have a regular retail version of FCP, the upgrade price is $299. Academic and Not For Resale versions do not qualify for the upgrade.

  • Re-install FCP 4 on new Mac dual 2.3

I just bought a new G5 dual cor 2.3 and used the migration software which transfers most of the software from my old G4 to the new G5.
However, it does not transfer FCP 4.
I did a lot of search and found all the neccessary tweaks to get FCP 4 running on the new PCI graphic cards. What I did not find is the basic
'... how do I install FCP 4 on a new machine?'
Do I have to de-install it on the old one and get a kind of 'transfer-licence ID' and if so, how?
Do I just do a fresh install and poke in my licence number - but wouldn't it be a breach of the licence because I installed it then literally on two maschines.
    Sorry, I really don't have a clue.
    Thanks for help

I'd just install it on the new machine. Delete the app from the old machine and you've only got one install.

  • Re-install FCP 7 on new MacBook Pro

My old MacBook's motherboard was damaged to the extend that I had to replace it with a  new OS X Yosemite. I have FCP X - but also want to use FCP 7. When I try to install it with the disc, the message reads"invalid product key". The duplicate from my old MacBook - the message is that it can not run on this version- need to re-instal. Has anyone also had this problem? Any solution?

There are best practices from Apple for installing both FCP-7 on a system with FCP-X. You can find them in this Apple document, about halfway down the page:
Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4: Installation best practices - Apple Support
    also . . .

Not sure what you mean by this - is the serial number for your disc being rejected?
Is the FCS3 you are installing an upgrade version or a full version?

  • ***Can't install FCP on my new MacBookPro

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and rather than migrate anything from my old PowerPC Mac, decided to re-install all my apps. The problem is, when I pop my FC Studio 2 install disc into my MBP, the finder window briefly comes up and then disappears. When I double-click on the DVD icon on the desktop it happens again, never allowing me to get to the icon to install FC Studio 2.
I tried popping it into my iMac and the finder window came up perfectly with the icon that I need to double-click on to install...
So what's happening here? Why won't my MBP recognize my FC Studio 2 install DVD?
    Thanks in advance.

Just by chance are you running Parallels? If you have Parallels open and running Windows, it controls the DVD drive and on the Mac side the DVD appears to be not working. If this is the case I would suggest you quit Parallels and complete your installation.
None of our machines are running Parrellels.

  • CanNOT install Tiger on New Quad. What version of Logic is most reliable??

I've read all the posts to death, and fully intended to install Tiger onto my new Quad, but that is not an option. so... It came with Leopard 10.5.1. I need to know what exact configuration with the most stability I should go with. i.e. -- do i stay at 10.5.1 or go to 10.5.2 --- i have every upgrade of Logic since 6.0, so do I go with 7.2.3, or Logic 8.??, or something else.
I am interested in what is the 'lesser evil' of a combination here and trying to stay off as much issues as some of you more unfortunate souls.
and lastly, in this equation what other update should i definitely do, or avoid like the plague...i.e. pro kit, pro apps, security update blah, blah, blah...I do video editing as well, so i wonder if my Final Cut Studio 2 will even come in to play in the equation.
I am really sorry for all who have been screwed over by all these completely evil 'bugs' and such. i really welcome any of your input if it means it can lessen the blow on my own studio.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    o.k.
i have come to believe that you have been completely misguided. there is absolutely no way my new Quad or Macbkpro will run tiger 10.4.11...no way!!!
i took both an internal, and an external drive to my old Tiger running G5. Did fresh installs of tiger on both. then did combo upgrades up to 10.4.4 ( cause it would not do any higher and do the intel version from the G5 ). I brought the drives back to my new Laptop and Quad. updated the software on them up to 10.4.11 intel combo. stuck one drive into the quad, and left one for an external scenerio. I have booted, rebooted, target disc mode, chose boot drive mode, prayed, cried, switched start up drive... even switched the roles and tried to do it with the MacBkPro, also. what i get, from either one, every single time, is the following....
the great black curtain of death saying to do a hard reboot, and code at the top saying stuff like
"panic(cpu 0 caller 0x003abd33) : Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI" . "
then some stuff about... debugger called...<panic>...backtrace, format - frame : return address (4 potential args on stack)....jibberish code junk.... then Kernal Version: Darwin kernal version 8.11.1...
so, please, be my kind Italian friend and tell me, are you SUUURE this is possible??? if you know a special secret to accomplishing this, you can reach me through my site. ( i don't want to do or say anything on the forums that would be wrong or against the rules... really...i respect them...I also respect my tons of paying clients that are ready to find other places to give my business...)
and lastly, if indeed I am "stuck" with Leopard on my Quad, in regards to Logic, what combination do I go with in juggling 10.5.1 vs. 10.5.2, vs. Logic 7.2.3 vs. Logic 8.?, then what other random stuff should I do or avoid, i.e. ProApps updates, Pro-kit, certain security updates, etc...
    Thank you,
    jeremy

  • New Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP.

I got a new Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP that worked fine in SL.  Is it not compatible?  Is it really a PowerPC program???  I'm a videographer and rely on this software and to spend $300 to continue to use it after spending a lot more for this software 4 years ago!  Tell me this is not the case and there is a solution to installing FCP.

How to run FCP 6 (FCS 2) under Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 (FCS 2) is a PPC app. The Programs themselves are Intel. If your trying to install FCP 6 (FCS 2) this work-around will work...
First you need to install Rosetta from your Snow Leopard OS installation disc:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/27987.html
After doing that you can install FCP 6 (FCS 2). Remember, after installing FCP 6 (FCS 2) you need to apply the updates. This has been discuss many times in the Final Cut Studio forum.
If your trying to install FCP version 5.1 (FCS 1) (a PPC app) and below your out of luck....

  • How many times can you install FCP?

Hello everyone, new to the forums here. I've searched throught he forums but couldnt find an answer to my question.
I'm in the middle of installing Final Cut Studio 2 (waiting to put in the next disc) when my buddy came over and mentioned that you could only install FCP one time and never install it again on any other computer. This worries me because in January I was going to get a new Mac Pro and un-install FC from my Macbook Pro so I could use it on the new computer. Is this possible? Or once I install this on my laptop is it permanent?
Thanks in advance for the help

Ok so you can install it on as many machines as you like but can only use (or have one activated through registering) one at a time. I know this is a touchy subject with piracy and all, but I thought it would just be rediculous if I installed this on my laptop, and 6 months down the line wanted to install it on another computer that I own.

  • New quad and lots of force quits

hi i just got my G5 quad and i have instaled FCP studio but it seems like i have to do a lot of force quits on it. can anyone help me. and when i export a movie that is about an hour long it takes about 3 to 4 hours to export when using quick time converstion. does it take that long for the rest of you quad owners.
    thanks matt

Don't know about the Quad, although I have a friend who has a Quad with 2.5 gigs of ram and one 23" monitor and for some reason it does not look as fast as I though. I have a dual 2.0 with 3gigs of RAM and a Quick Time compression on a movie that's about 26 minutes, with Sorenson 3 compression, size is 320 by 240, 500KBPS, IMA 4:1 as is, takes about 45minutes to 50minutes to do.
    Hope it helps,

  • Can't install FCP 5

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and was getting ready to install FCP 5 (and later upgrade to 6),
but when I click on the installation icon I get this message:
" You can't ope the application Final Cut Studio.mpkg because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported. "
I was not expecting this since I had FCP installed in my old computer which is also an intel based MacBook Pro (2007).
Why am I getting this message? My system requirements are good.
    Any way around this?
    Thanks!!

You don't need to install FCP 5 before FCP 6. Everything you need is on the FCS2 install disc. All you need is the serial number from FCP 5.
That said, you still can't install it on Lion unless you install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 6 Snow Leo disc first.

  • Cannot install FCP X on Mac Pro (2,1).  Graphics card issue.

I have a Mac Pro 2,1 (2 x 3 Ghz Quad Xeon, 16 GB RAM, and ATI Radeon X1900 XT (512 MB)) AND I cannot install FCP X.  It says graphics card not supported. What do I need to run FCP X?  If I need a better GPU, what card is recommended for this machine?  It's hard to believe I can run the software on my Macbook Air but not my Mac Pro supercomputer...

Radeon HD 5770 (as inserted into the current MacPros) will do it. Make sure it's the unit bought from Apple, not a big box store.
Plenty of discussions about it, here's one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2544029?start=0&tstart=0
Your "super computer" is more of a super computer than mine, but it did start life in 2007. Things have moved on... your MacPro isn't obsolete, by any means... in fact your original graphics card is probably just about to give up anyway! Mine did last year (I had an older card in a MP 1.1) and am glad I changed it.

  • Installing FCP (V2/V3 on iMac G5)--Urgent!

Okay, I have some editing to accomplish (putting a reel together) and I'm in the process of upgrading everything... I would like to use FCP on a loaner G5 iMac while I wait for my QUAD to be delivered. I have FC Studio Cross-grade on the way that will solve all of the world's problems--right? Yet, I don't have any current FCP or FC Studio components.
    I own FCP V2 and the V3 upgrade... I was using this painfully on my G3 Pismo years ago... I also have a B & W G3...
Any ideas? I see my options as follows:
    a) Try to install FCP 3 on the G5--probably will not work--bad idea.
    b) Use iMovie... not powerful enough--bad idea.
    c) Get a temp. license from Apple for FCP 5??? Is that possible?
    d) Install the old $h#t on the old G3...
    e) Something you suggest?
    Well, any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Robert

    a) Won't work. The upgrade to FCP 3 require that FCP 2 be installed, and since you don't have OS 9 running...you can't do this. Even in Classic mode I hear that installing FCP 2 doesn't work.
    b) If it isn't powerful enough for you, it isn't. What kind of reel is this anyway? This should be fine for straight cuts and dissolves.
    c) Not possible.
    d) This is your best bet. In fact, this is your ONLY bet in my book. And FCP 3 works fine on the older machine.
