Install FCP7 after FCPx

Does anyone know if there are issues re installing Final Cut Pro 7 and the rest of studio on a clean Snow Leopard intal where Final Cut Pro X is already installed?
My current set up (new machine) has issues with FCPX but on another partition with just the OS and FCPX it works fine. I was intending to remove the existing partition so the clean install remains, migrate personal info and docs plus programs from an external carbon copy of my existing set up.
If I remove both versions of Final Cut plus the rest of studio and the new Motion and Compressor from the carbon copy partition then migrate apps I hope re installing studio  will fix all my issues. Has anyone tried a partial migration with success?

Great news, it is all fixed. I used an application called FCS remover to uninstall FCS studio 3 and FCP X as well as Motion and Compressor. Re installed Studio from the disks, down loaded the updates so then Studio 3 was working fine.
Next tried to download the three new apps but my system (App store) still had them as installed. After discussion with AppleCare created a new user and downloaded the three apps then changed back to my normal account and everything is working perfectly.

  • Can I re-install fcp7 AFTER installing fcpx

Now that I've somewhat committed myself (a good choice of wording) to FCPX, I think it might be prudent to re-install FCP 7 (studio 3), which I had dumped. I have read the help page on how to install fcpx on a machine which has fcp7, but I cannot find anything on doing the reverse...

Simply put FCP X (and Motion 5 and Compressor 4 if you have them) in a folder named exactly Final Cut Pro X and put the folder in your Applications folder.
Then install FCP 7 as normal.
For some reason that I don't understand it is also suggested that after installing FCS 3 you open Motion 4 before opening any other app and then quit it.

  • Update FCP5 to FCP7 after FCPX install??

    Hello FCP Gurus,
So I just bought FCP-X, not thinking that it would effect my current beloved FCP7.  But low and behold, after installing, it reduced my FCP7 to FCP5!  And then when I downloaded the ProApps update 2010-02 to upgrade back to 10.7, it told me that my computer doesn't need the update!  So now I have all my FCP7 projects that can't be opened in FCP5 because they're "too new!"  Any suggestions???
    Thanks!

FCP 5.x, whether the stand alone or as part of Final Cut Sutudio is a pay for upgrade to FCS 2009 - which includes FCP 7. You didn't get it via Apple Software Update.
FCS 2009 is a set of disks (7 or 8 DVDs, dunno exactly, my set is in a safe deposit box at my bank)
$16 bucks? Tell him I'll buy a truck load at that price. These babies were $300 if you had a prior version, $1000 if not. What kind of people are manning the Apple support lines these days? In my day, you had to know every single product not only blindfolded but after being beaten senseless, hit with sticks, then drowned in a bucket and spat upon by Windows gamers. Pffft!
"I have a iPhone, tight jeans, a Justin Beaver haircut and horn rimmed spectacles"... Welcome to Apple.
They used to employ people who knew what they were talkng about. For shame Apple. For shame.
Now, get off my lawn you youngsters.

  • Do you live dangerously and install FCP7 and FCPX on the same volume?

Hi, I went ahead like a crazy person and just installed FCPX on my system where I also have FCP7.
Now I see al these warnings saying that you should have a separate boot disk for FCPX and FCP7.
I have had no problems with FCP7 thus far.
Do you have both installed on the same drive? Does it work?
Please write a reply if you have so i can sleep easier
    Thanks!

Yes, I have them installed on the same drive. They both work, though not simultaneously. Larry Jordan has had them on one drive for a couple of months.

  • How can I install FCP7 on OSX 10.8.5 if I've already installed FCPX?

I tried to install FCP7 on my new 30 inch iMac,3.2 ghz intel core i5 running 10.8.5 and it won't allow me to intall FCP7?
Any way to go back to the old FCP7?
    Thanks

Use this free tool: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/ to remove FCPX.
Install FCP7 and run all updates.
Download FCPX again at no cost -the App Store knows that you already paid for it.

  • I have a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard and FCP7 installed I would like to run FCP7 and FCPX on the same computer, is this OK

I have a Mac Pro (early 2009) with Mac OS X version 10.6.8, I use this for video editing with FCP7. I would also like to install FCPX, my operating system is Snow Leopard. Is this OK or do I need to up-grade my operating system. I want to be able to use FCP7 and FCPX on the same Computer. Your advise will be appreciated.

You will see from the hardware spec that the latest version of FCP X requires Mavericks.
The Mavericks spec shows you can upgrade to Mavericks on your Mac Pro.
Ensure you have a bucket full of RAM installed.

  • Can't install FCP7 on a Maverick OS?

I am trying to install FCP7 from the original disks into may computer with Maverick. OS 10.9.1
And its telling me the installer found an error.
Does anybody knows of a codec or a plug in that can overpass Mavericks and make FCP7 Available to install?
    Thanks

    Pepe,
Mavericks cannot install FCP7 from disks because the installer was PowerPC based, hence the error as Mavericks will not run any PowerPC installer. This is not a Rosetta issue, just that Apple never provided a updated installer for FCP7.
Assuming you still have your old computer, you can install and run FCP7 on Mavericks (no Rosetta needed) by using Migration Assistant (MA) but unfortunately, MA is an all or nothing program. If you are transferring all the old programs, then MA is the way to go. You can also delete the programs you don't want before or after MA transfer.
FCP7 will run on Mavericks, it is just getting it installed that is the bear.
You also can't simply drag the application over by USB unless you know where all the supporting files are located on your old computer, copy them and then install in the proper places on the new computer. Unfortunately, Apple has changed where each file goes, which is exactly what an installer program does, puts all the files in the appropiate places. Lots of hidden files.
While it is possible to use terminal to gather files from the old computer, and then to place them in the appropiate folders on the new computer, it is not something easily done.
If you don't want all the old programs but just a few, one way to cheat, is to clone your old hard drive onto an external drive, remove all programs you don't want to transfer, and then run MA. Big Pain.
Having said all this, I am a big fan of the new FCPX 10.1.1. Way faster, better management, no out of sync audio, much better multicam, etc…
You can download a free trial to play with it.
Check out FCP.co for some great articles and forums.
    Hope this helps, Greg

  • Newly installed FCP7 crashes when I render

I recently bought a used Mac Pro from 2009 and installed FCP7 on it.  After that, I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.  I use a DSLR camera so when I import my footage I use a plug-in from Canon that changes the codec from H.264 to 4:2:2.  Anyway, when I throw even a small clip on the timeline to render, the software crashes.  I have no idea why this happens.
When I render without using the Canon plug-in, everything is fine, but it drastically decreases my workflow.
    Any suggestions, thank you!

This is for Windows, but it "seems" that you have a similar problem, so some reading that MAY help with ideas

  • Having purchased and installed pages after finishing my 30 day trial I now can't save changes to documents, it keeps saying that my trial is over and I need a serial number?  Never got a serial number, any ideas how to rectify this?

Hi, having purchased and installed pages after my 30 day trial had finished I am now unable to save any changes to documents I had created in the trial version.  It says I need a serial number, which I never got when I purchased the pages app.  Does anyone kno how to rectify this, I would be very grateful for any help as I'm currently writing up my thesis and am now unable

Hi, I had the same problem and I found that you don't need a serial number anymore. Here is what I did:
(1)I went to Applications fodder on my Mac. (You can navigate to the Application folder from 'New Finder Window.')
    (2) Deleted Pages (installed as part of the free  free trial version) from the Applications Folder. Also deleted 'IWorks' from the Applications folder.
    (3) Started AppStore.
    (4) Clicked on  Purchases.
    (5) Clicked on Pages.
    (6) Clicked Install.
    (4) repeated (5) and (6) for Numbers and Keynote

  • How to install iPhoto after upgrading to yosemite?

how to install iPhoto after upgrading to yosemite?

Download it from the App Store as Matt suggested.  You may have to move the current version to the Trash Bin (don't delete yet), go to the App Store and look for iPhoto 9.6 under purchases.  It will be free.
What iPhoto version did you have prior to the Yosemite upgrade?  If it was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll also have to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before opening it with iPhoto 9.6.

did not get a save instead of run prompt
Right click on iTunesSetup or iTunes64Setup (the installer you downloaded in step 3).

i just had a new hard drive installed. After loading everything back on my computer from external drive, i came to the "select wireless network screen. I've misplaced the WEP password for my internet. Is there anyway to find it on another computer?

Maybe. What kind of other computer are you talking about? What operating system is it running? What kind of wireless router are you using?
Your best bet may be to just reset the router and set it up again.
Just so you know, WEP is a very old security system for wireless and is considered insecure. If you have it available, use WPA2.

  • Mac OS 10.4 Install Stops After First Disc

I'm trying to do a fresh install of mac os 10.4 on my mac mini g4. I restarted the computer with Disc 1 and booted up while holding C. I went under options and chose to do a fresh install. After it checked disc 1 the install began. After it finished with disc 1, it restarted and then it gave me the message, "Please insert the 'Mac OS X Install Disc 2' disc to continue installation. (You have chosen to install software that requires this disc)."
This is where the problem is, I insert Disc 2 and after about 10 seconds, it spits it back out. Nothing on the screen changes.
I've tried restarting it, inserting disc 1 again, restarting the installation process, and restarting while holding C with disc 2 in. None have gotten me past that message.
The discs I am using are the ones that came with the Mac Mini (two gray discs).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there, That second Disk thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.
