Install file missing in tar archive - how to install?

I want to update Flashplayer for Firefox on Linux.
I downloaded the file install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz and unpacked it.
The installation instructions on the website say that I should run now the install script.
The tar file doesn't contain any install script. In fact it contains only one file, which is
libflashplayer.so.
I tried to find out where to place this file, by listing
ldd /usr/bin/firefox
but the firefox on this machines seems to be statically linked:
$ ldd /usr/bin/firefox
not a dynamic executable
What should I do now to upgrade Flashplayer?

I unpacked the tar file and copied the libflashplayer.so file to usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins and finally to home/firefox/plugins where my firefox program file resides. Everything worked ok after that except that the playback was choppy like a slide show like I explained in another post.

The hard drive on my fairly new HP Pavilion desktop died hard on boot-up. HP replaced the drive the next day. Used the Recovery Disks and got the unit up and running. I have been using Memeo Premium Backup and never did get any error messages during backup. When I went to restore the data, much of it is missing or corrupt. In the Restore data on the backup drive, I can see many folders but only a few have data. I opened a ticket with Memeo and after they made a few useless comments, they closed the ticket.
Fortunately, most of my iTunes data (folders and files) were restored in-tact. The exceptions were the library files, which are missing. The library files in the Previous Itunes Library folder were corrupted. I installed iTunes 10, but there are no songs, podcasts,etc, in it. I have tried every article in the knowledgebase and tried to fix the ITL and XML files, but it is hopeless. Also, when iTunes is running, at the top it shows .iTunes Preferences.plist. So, I have a disaster and about 10 gb of music going nowhere. Any ideas? I would really appreciate any help I can get.

They are all mostly the same size at around 6MB but there are a couple that are very large 55MB (including the 30 tmp file I mentioned above. There is also one around 7KB). I tried renaming the most recent (as of 8:30PM last night) tmp file as iTunes Library.itl but when I launch iTunes, I get the "The file 'iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" popup.
But when I go into a directory I created to get the most recent itl file I've been saving as a backup and copy it into the iTunes directory to replace the one that I tried to make with the tmp file, and launch iTunes, my whole library loads with no problem.
However, if history repeats itself, this will work for at most a couple of days before I have to copy the saved itl file back into the iTunes directory.

During installation of the NI-VISA 2.01 driver I get an error that tells me that my file (NICVISA.DPT) doesnt look like a tar archive. How can I make it look like a tar archive or is that not the solution to the problem?

I am trying to install the NI-VISA 2.01 driver I downloaded from the NI website on a HP-UX 10.2 platform, but it keeps giving me the following error:
tar: /var/spool/sw/NICVISA.DPT: This doesnt look like a tar archive.
I also get errors telling me that files can't be loaded because their missing from source media. What could be causing this? Some of the files are msgrt4.txt,ni7seg24.bdf,ni7seg26, etc... Can these needed files be downloaded anywhere or is the problem linked to the tar archive scenario..

The files were corrupt. Originally I had downloaded the driver files to my PC and used FTP to transfer them to my UNIX machine.
Your tech support rep. suggested I download the driver files via ftp.ni.com to my UNIX machine vs. the PC...this worked great. I am now communicating with my instrument

not sure what's happened to my computer but I can no longer install programs or updates for programs as I get the message "files missing from install directory"
How did they get corrupt in the first place? I get this when trying to download yahoo messenger of all programs...duh! I'm getting pretty frustrated since this has only started a month ago and I've been hoping something would fix itself but no....the last time my Toshiba service station updated was Jan 24 and now it says unable to connect with server....yet I got here to post a message and can get to the internet so don't understand why the updates can get in?

Cannot install yesod: There are files missing in ...

I'd like to install Yesod. According to this page, you need to do "cabal install Cabal cabal-install yesod".

Anybody knows how to figure this out?
BTW, I know that Yesod is available in AUR, but there are many dependencies and I don't want to install them manually.

Hmm I just tried using yaourt, and apparently there are broken dependencies here and there, so I can't build it

I even uninstalled ghc, and re-installed it again. The same errors still occur.
Anyway, I think I'll wait for a while, untill all the dependencies are updated.

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I’ve owned Macs since 1990 (IICX my first), mostly desktops. Having had DVD/CD drives in all my previous laptop Macs since 2001 - (2) G4 Powerbooks, A 17” Mac Book Pro - and also inspecting a friend’s year-old Mac Book Pro which had the DVD slot - unless someone told me at purchase, I had no reason to know that the Retina display version of the 15” had NO DVD drive. ANYHOW, I fully intended to buy the non-Retina display version, because it was cheaper. Unfortunately by the time I got to the Apple store they were no longer selling the non-Retina display version; all versions were ONLY with the Retina display. And the fine distinction of a DVD vs. a non-DVD drive was not pointed out. So now I have to shell out an additional $80 bucks for an external SuperDrive.

Automator workflow to TAR multiple files in a single directory into multiple TAR archives, in succession?

Good afternoon,
I have set up an automator service that TAR's a folder into an archive for me and it works quite nicely. Idealy however, I would like to be able to highlight several folders, right click and have automator tar each folder into it's own TAR archive, but do it one by one.
Example:
FOLDER 01
FOLDER 02
FOLDER 03
Highlight all - Right Click - "TAR Folder" - Automator takes over at this point and TARs each one into:
FOLDER 01.tar (Once complete moves onto:)
FOLDER 02.tar (Once complete moves onto:)
FOLDER 03.tar (Finished)
I'm not 100% sure so I guess it would be a good time to verify, is there a problem with having the system try to TAR multiple folders at one time? If it is not a problem then I guess this discussion itself is pointless and I can simple right click on each folder and select "TAR Folder" and just wait until they're all finished. I would think that it would be ideal for the system to do each one individually and not try to do them all at one time.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think I have the following totally fleshed out but you probably can extrapolate on it. This is a service which you can right click a set of folders and it will tar the files within those selected folders with then file names "name xxx.tar", where name is the tar'ed file/folder and xxx is a count within the folder.
I think that is what you originally specified so I am a bit confused by your script with the bit about Archive.tar.
Anyway here the basic idea:
I ran the script directly with a folder argument just to see it indeed tar's up all the stuff inside, one tar per item.
