Install Font from PC's to Mac

I need to copy font (Hacen Tunisia) from windows XP to Mac 10.5.6; simply coping the font does not work correctly because there is space between the characters in words.

You need to find a Mac/Leopard compatible font.

  • How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion?

How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion? Thanks!

although I believe I *have* used the .suit extension when I was creating suitcase files for TrueType fonts.
You can get away with that because you haven't really changed anything. It's already a suitcase file, with a Type code of FFIL (the Creator code is mostly irrelevant). Adding .suit still tells the OS it's a suitcase.
However, if you do something silly like change the Type code to LWFN (the outline portion of a PST1 set), then neither Font Book, or any other font manager knows what to do with it. It's recognizing the LWFN code, but the data structure of course doesn't match. The file is still a Mac legacy TrueType font. Suitcase Fusion 5 tosses this on the screen when I change the Type code to the wrong one:
Changing the extension to something obviously wrong, like .otf produces the same message. It's trying to parse the data according to what the extension says it is, and nothing lines up.
Trying to use .ttf or .ttc also doesn't work. A Mac legacy suitcase TrueType font is not built the same as a .ttf or .ttc font. Either is technically correct (it is a TrueType font), but that's the only similarity. What's happening in that case is Mac legacy TT fonts have all of the data in the resource fork. When you add .ttf or .ttc to the name, the OS and any font manager then tries to find the data in the data fork. Nothing there.

  • Porting type 1 adobe fonts from win xp to mac

I have several type 1 postscript fonts (purchased from Adobe in 1999) on my pc and want to install them on my mac OSX 10.6.7. I brought one font onto the mac desktop and the file extension automatically switched from .pfm to .pfb (which I assume is what I want to happen?). However, the font will not install: Font Book does not recognize Type 1 fonts.
What do I do? All help appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, only Adobe applications recognize Windows Type 1 fonts on a Macintosh. Macintosh Type 1 fonts (that use resource fork-based files) are still supported by MacOS as well as Adobe applications. Unfortunately, the fonts were licensed in both Windows and Macintosh formats and they were not compatible. We would strongly recommend against any attempts to convert fonts. The results of such conversions rarely match exactly what you would have gotten directly from Adobe for the target platform.
Yes, you are correct in terms of what I meant by private font directories.
I have no idea why file suffixes would have changed when you copied the files. (How did you actually copy them?)
Adobe stopped active licensing of Type 1 fonts ten years ago or so. For cross-platform compatibility, we strongly recommend migration to OpenType fonts. Although Adobe applications will support Type 1 fonts for the indefinite future (we must do so in order to fully and properly support the PDF file format and existing PostScript and EPS files), the same is not necessarily true for operating system platforms which are committed to both OpenType CFF and OpenType TrueType formats going into the future, but not necessarily Type 1 fonts (regardless of platform).

  • Install windows from iso on older mac

    Hi everybody
I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro (15"), running Yosemite, and I want to install Windows on it using bootcamp.
Since my optical drive doesn't work properly, I hope for installing windows from an iso file.
The problem is the system's bootcamp assistant have not such option.
Is there a workaround for it?

You can modify the Bootcamp info.plist using Enable Bootcamp to install from usb for OSX 10.9**WORKS** , but for Macs with built-in Optical drives, BC Assistant sets the CSM-BIOS layer to boot from the Optical drive. There is no way for a user to change it. Some 2011/2012 Macs allow a USB/ISO combination, but older Macs will run into issues with Keyboard and Mouse drivers which may not work.

  • How do I install fonts from Type On Call into Win 8.1

I have been using Trade Gothic Condensed as my default Excel font for many years. Each time I get a new computer I have been able to install the font in the new OS. I am having trouble doing that with Win 8.1. It says it is installed but does not appear in my list of Fonts, yet the Myriad font comes up fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to install the Trade Gothic font in my new Win 8.1 computer?
    Many thanks
    George

There are strings in the pliist file to add other Macs so that you can use some USB-DVD drives.
This is 5 page thread, so a little more 'meat' to it:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3410900?start=60&tstart=0
And on PC booting Windows from a USB DVD to do the install is usually a piece of cake, sometimes you just need to specify that USB in the BIOS boot order and sometimes select via F12 (or another Fkey) and that is it.
What you have here seems to be everything and everyone is excluded unless there is a  mac-model device ID string that specifies yes.  An unnecessary hurdle.

  • How to install fonts from CS3 into CS5?

At work I often need the font DIN which was installed with our version CS3. At home I have CS5 and I do not know how to install the needed fonts. I packed the relevant file with the fonts and other links into a directory but how can I install the fonts at my personal computer using Windows. When using a Mac it was quite easy to install the font, I just click at the font within the directory "fonts" and with another click on "install" I got the font. My PC however asks me which programme I want the file to open with - but which one should it be? It can't be Word, Photoshop, IrfanView or whatever. So what do I do? Can anybody please help me?

Well.. there are many different kinds of font files out there. Some of them advertise the type of font in the filename, e.g.
    DINBold.otf
    DINBold.ttf
    DINBold.pfm
    DIN.dfont
    DIN.ttc
    and so on.
Others, typically Mac fonts, don't have a file extension that tells us what kind of file it is. Of those Mac fonts, there's one kind that you can't use on Windows at all, because when you look at it in Windows the size is zero kilobytes. The fact that, at some point in the past, you moved a file from Mac to Windows without font problems does not make a platform-compatibility problem any more or less likely - perhaps it was all set in fonts you already had installed at home. The fact that right now it doesn't work in the Document Fonts folder makes me believe that you may have a Mac font resource fork problem - that's what would make the filesize 0k. If your fonts don't have file extensions (or if you have file extensions hidden by Windows, which is the way Win7 works by default) then you can't really know what kind of font file it is. Looking at the Properties of the font file will tell you, though.
Lastly: since you don't own an (extra) license for the font, you'd be ripping off the font developers by installing it on your home computer, although obviously not intentionally.

  • Installing backup from my passport for mac to new macbook

Could I use My Passport for mac to install everything thats on my Macbook to a new Macbook Air?

Yes, although if you don't already have a backup on that Passport drive, you can just as easily use Migration Assistant to transfer your files directly from the Macbook. You would connect both computers to your wireless network (or wired to a router, if you have a Thunderbolt - Ethernet adaptor for the Air; this may be faster).

  • HOW to install fonts from rpm/tar.gz (ec-fonts-mftraced)

    Hey all.
I'm trying to install a music program called Lilypond, for my girlfriend, as an example of how easy (heh) linux is to use.
Now, to use this particular version, I need to install some fonts. ec-fonts-mftraced, to be exact.
The Lilypond site provides downloads for the fonts here
There is an rpm, deb, and tar.gz version, none of which I've managed to install from. I've tried using
    rpmunpack | gzip -d | cpio -uid
as (kind of) per the instructions:
    EC-FONTS-MFTRACED
GNU LilyPond 2.3.x needs TeX (if you are using the TeX backend) and
PostScript Type1 PFA/PFB fonts with full internationalisation support.
By default, LilyPond uses the ec* family.
    INSTALLING EC FONTS
The binany RPM and DEB packages should be installable on any RPM or
    DEB based system.
If you do not have such a system, install either
    * the RPM, like so
    rpm2cpio ec-fonts-mftraced-1.0.2-1.noarch.rpm | cpio -uid
    mktexlsr
    * or the DEB,
    ar p ec-fonts-mftraced_1.0.2-1_all.deb data.tar.gz | tar zxf -
    mktexlsr
    BUILDING FROM SOURCE
    cvs -d :ext:[email protected]:/cvsroot/lilypond co sauter-fonts-mtraced
    cd sauter-fonts-mtraced
    make all install
    mktexlsr
I can't get anything to work though, nor can I install the fonts thru KDE control centre.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
    Much appreciated,
    Thom.

You need t1utils (an easy compile), potrace (or autotrace), tetex, and python so you can compile mftrace.
mftrace PKGBUILD is at the bottom of http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=6450
    Then you need to:
    cd /usr/share/mftrace/
    import filelib
    Here's the PKGBUILD for ec-fonts-mftraced:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=6451
Fontforge I think helps it compile faster (??)
All of the above-mentioned packages that aren't available via pacman have been uploaded to ftp.archlinux.org/incoming

  • I just re-installed fonts from a third disk in my Create Suite 5, but can't find CLASSIC CURSIVE FONTS in my selctions.

I am in the process of re-installing ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE 5 DESIGN PREMIUM because I had to change my hard drive. I haven't done this for years. There is a disk that came with the Suite called "CONTENT." It contains FONTS. I followed the instructions to INSTALL, but do not seem to have a single CLASSIC CURSIVE FONT now. Can anyone help? I had about 3 of these in the past.

Sorry I didn't see your response earlier. Here are the screen shots you requested:
#1 Is what appears on my screen when I put the disk in.
#2 Is the screen after I selected "English" as my language
#3 Is the screen I got after selecting "Goodies"
#4 Is the screen I got after selecting "Fonts"
#5 Is the list of fonts I get after opening the folder "Adobe"
#6 Is the step to install the fonts: "Select all, Right-click and select "Install."
These all seem to appear in my font choices for InDesign, however, I am missing the three fancy script options I used to use all the time. The kind you use for invitations and such.
Here is a screen shot of my InDesign fonts. In the past, there were two such fonts towards the end of my font list that are no longer there. I really don't seem to have any traditional script-like fonts in my list anymore.
    Are these images even legible?
Thanks for your help. I look forward to your reply.

  • Can't install Lion from usb to my mac pro!!!

I created a USB boot disk per instructions and when it boots on my Mac Pro all it goes to is the Safari Only interface with no options to install anything. Just to be sure I boot to the same USB on my Macbook Air and I get the OS X Lion install options/interface so the USB key works.
I have a brand new 3TB drive as the install disc. I did boot to a Snow Leopard install disc so that I could format the drive correctly as the USB key didn't give me those options. In any case I can't install Lion for some reason to this machine. Any ideas?
It's a 2.8Ghz Quad Core Mac Pro bought in Oct of 2008.
    Thanks!!

It's not specifically hardware specific. But IIRC the Air computers used a special version of Lion, at least when Lion first came out.
Try this, use LionDiskMaker to create the USB installer.
Serial Serveur » Lion DiskMaker (US)
See if that creates a usable USB stick.

  • Installing fonts -- FontBook can't see TT fonts from pre-X

I've just made the migration over from a 9.1 iMac (I've been broke, so sue me ), and when I went to install fonts from my old Mac's collection, FontBook can't understand TrueType fonts that are wandering around "naked", IE files not in font suitcases; also, it seems confused by suitcases that contain more than one family, whether TT's or T1 bitmaps. Since this is how I organized the bulk of my pre-X collection, am I doomed to firing up the old iMac one last time to sort out the mess, or is there simply something I'm not doing the way that OS X expects it? (Which already wouldn't be the first time, given that I go back to System 7.0... )
    Mini G4 1.42   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   1 gig/ComboDrive

I'm no expert... but i do have over 2000 fonts on my system (only about 250 are active)... BUT, i've been told to stay away (far away) from TT fonts with system 10.x This probably isn't what you wanted to hear... but you will avoid probs if you stick to Postecript level 1 & 2 fonts.
ALSO, there are about 5 different places that system 10.x puts / stores fonts... BE CAREFUL. getting used to font managed is more complicated now.
I'm having a different issue with fonts, as i use a ton of them , but i'll save that for another posting
    hope this helps... sorry.
