Install fonts to Leopard

I'm having a problem installing fonts to my system.
Even though the font is PostScript Type 1, it worked in Tiger on my PowerBook G4. I upgraded my machine to MacBook Pro with Leopard on it. Now, Font Book doesn't allow to install the font. I tried to put font file into several fonts folder but didn't work. Is there any ways the font I have is able to employed?

You must have clicked the link to "subscribe to this topic". You then get an email notice anytime someone replies to it. You can click the link at the top of the post again to remove the subscription.
But, you are saying that Leopard doesn't install all the fonts we need?
Uh, no, since there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of fonts available. OS X comes with quite a few, but not that many.
Of those that come with OS X, none are Type 1 PostScript fonts. You'll have to find your original copy of the missing font and install it again.
If not where do we get them?
All kinds of places. Adobe, ITC and Bitstream to name a few for quality fonts. None of those are free and very cheap. Free fonts can be found a number of places. But the free ones are almost always worthless junk. So badly made that they cause problems on your computer. Not that there aren't some good free fonts out there. They're just hard to find. It takes a lot of work to create a good font from scratch.

I just dragged and dropped the downloaded ".tff" font files into in Font Book icon in theDock and a new window popped up and just click "Install Font" button.
That works, too. Sets are, more than anything else, just a way to organize your fonts by project. By dropping the font in, it should now be listed in one of the standard headings like "Computer".
The new fonts have automatically loaded into Adobe Illustrator CS3 without having to close it.
Better apps will see when fonts have been enabled or disabled without having to close and restart them. Microsoft Word (and likely the entire Office suite) does not.

Reloading system fonts in Leopard

Is there a way to reload just the system fonts in leopard, i seem to be missing some standard ones for things like websites etc? It may be to do with issues i'm having using suitcase fusion.

Since these are installed as part of the system, I think you have to reinstall the system with an Archive and Install preserving Users and network settings unless you backed up the system fonts.

Self Installed Fonts

After installing MacOSX Snow Leopard, most of my fonts cannot be used. When using iWorks, most of the fonts will be clump up or condensed together. The larger the fonts, the more clump up they will be. Only 25% of the fonts (maybe the standard fonts) are useful, the rest are unreadable and compressed. If I use Microsoft office, only 30% of my total fonts appear when I click on the fonts toolbar while the fonts toolbar of keynote show all the fonts insatalled but many are unusable. Tried many ways like font validation and erase but to no avail. Please help!

Open up Font Book, select all the Fonts and Validate them.
Fix any problem and resolve duplicates.

If you have a lot of dashboard widgets, you may need to increase RAM to improve performance on either operating system. The RAM needs to follow Apple's specs to ensure smooth operation. Only get RAM with a lifetime warranty.

The Tiger installer is a san serif gray and white X with a spotlight on the center of the X on a black background.

All versions of Photoshop get their fonts from your OS. Just install any missing font wherever Windows keeps fonts.

Just purchased a ipad2, could not us it on my MacBook 10.4.1 - Purchased and installed OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - downloaded and installed latest itunes, set up a itunes accounts and tested by purchasing an album and app, ipad does not show in devises?

I just purchased a ipad2, it would not work on my MacBook 10.4.1 I purchased and installed OSX snow leopard 10.6.3 downloaded and installed the latest itunes, set up an itunes account, purchased some music and apps. When i plug in my ipod it shows up and works, but when i plug in my new ipad the ipad screen comes up with a display of a cable and itunes but does not show in devises, i have tried all the resets and different USB ports with no success. Any ideas short of selling it on ebay or buying a new computer?

If you've already tried the usual rebooting of the computer and ports and stuff, there is only a few things left I can think of. It's possible that when you updated iTunes it didn't fully replace all the files, so I suggest just manually removing iTunes and then reinstalling it.
Try removing iTunes manually first http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224 then download a fresh copy, make sure it is 10.3.1
It is essential that you go through Finder to remove those files it mentions. Otherwise they won't be reinstalled when you run the installer again.

How can i do a re-install of snow leopard?

it has been suggested that i do a fresh re-install of snow leopard to remedy my battery issues (extreme drop in charge with sn installation http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10258624). i'm new to macs, so i'm wondering how to go about the re-install. can anyone help?

On the issue of the points system. You don't see a lot of points given. I don't know why those seeking help aren't interested in tossing a carrot to the unpaid Apple helpers. Perhaps Apple could do more to encourage them. Except that users don't play, I think the point system is pretty good. Usually, I think points are given to decent or good solutions and helpfulness. But, you see excellent solutions given by talented individuals, e.g., V.K., totally ignored point-wise on a wholesale basis.

How can I do a clean install of Snow Leopard with out losing iLife applications?

I bought my Macbook pro in 2009 and am currently running the Leopard software. I want to do a clean install of Snow Leopard, but I do not want to lose my iLife applications. I lost the DVD's that came with the computer. Is there any way I can do a clean install of Snow Leopard with out losing my iLife applications?
Will a regular installation of Snow Leopard allow the App store to recognize that my computer has iLife and mark it as a purchased item in my account. If it can, then would I be able to do a clean install and re-download the apps for free.
Any help would be appreciated!

1. Install Snow Leopard normally; this will keep the applications intact. An actual clean installation involves either erasing the partition or creating a blank one, and neither of those will carry the applications over.
2. The previous iLife installation won't carry over to the Mac App Store, and the Mac App Store versions are incompatible with Snow Leopard.

I had this imac 27" two years back(leopard 10.5.8) and no problem was encountered so far! (thanks 4that),i always made an update as far to snow leopard 10.6.8. Unfortunately when i did some application /downloading,the system was off and when i turn it On the logo of an apple only came.So what i did is to start all over again,now i am two years old back with Leo-10.5.8,My problem is i cannot install my snow leopard,it reads that i have to clean tha disc which i did and thru utility disc.Any help please and i really appreciate to every1 helping me to solve the problem.I will keep in touch.

BTW,I purchased the SL by retail and originally installed for the first time in my IMAC 27" ,unfortunately during the upgrading of the system,suddenly it was totally gray.then off as it killed my imac.i switch it On but only the apple logo came and waiting for so long.I tried to start from the very beginning,installed the DVD installation that was originally came from imac..it works and i have now the latest version of Leopard 10.5.6...then .8 thru updates. My problem is i cannot re-install my SNOW LEOPARD that i purchased from retail store..proceeded to install in my imac but everytime it ends with 'FAILED-pls clean the disc" i did the cleaning but still the same,:installed failed!-The installer could not copy the necessary support file",i tried booting from the disc holding C down but no luck at all. I'm on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8
still on Adobe CS4, i initially had problems getting CS4 to see my installed fonts when upgraded to Snow Lepoard, googled the problem, tried several different things for hours - something worked not sure what exactly but CS4 started seeing all of my installed fonts.
Now all of a sudden, they are not showing up again, i have not downloaded anything, installed anything, moved anything - were all there and working last week, and then this week they are not.
I have 1060 fonts installed - work for an agency with hundreds of different clients so need a lot of fonts. Am not using any font manager - just fontbook, is that the issue? all 1060 fonts are showing up as installed in Fontbook....
I have some fonts in HD>library>fonts, and also fonts in user>library>fonts, could this be the issue? is it best to have them in just one place? if so which folder is best to have all fonts in?
I know indesign has its own font folder - which is now where it seems to be reading fonts from, and illustrator is reading its fonts from somewhere else - only about 30-40 are showing up there, system fonts folder i'm guessing?
How can i get indesign and illustrator to read fonts from my actual font libraries?
any help is much appreciated! Our graphic design team of 2 are the only ones on macs so all our IT support guys are PC based and never know anything on how to fix mac issues so i'm on my own with this issue!

If you are managing fonts with font book, then all should be well. Something else is going on. Try installing Onyx and use that to delete all your caches including your font cache. You willl need to restart your computer after clearing your caches.

Clean install of Snow Leopard fails

Dear all,
As the title says my current issue is that I'm unable to perform a new installation of Snow Leopard after performing a single-pass secure erase of the Mac partition of my hard drive. However, some background to the problem is probably useful.
My troubles begin after attempting to transfer files from an USB stick to my Macbook pro. Drag/drop or copy/paste in finder resulted in nothing happening. I ejected the USB drive (which flashed to let me know the drive itself thought it had been ejected) however the USB stick did not disappear from Finder. Further attempts to eject the stick using finder did nothing. Attempting to reset Finder produced the well known "The application Finder.app can't be opened. -10810" error (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2135129&tstart=45). After reading through that thread and trying some of the suggestions I eventualy had to resort to a hard reset of my macbook. After restarting the macbook ran very slowly for a couple of minutes before producing the same Finder error as before (though no external drives/devices were involved this time).
After coming up against the same problem again and again I decided to verify and repair the drive using the OS X installation cd that came with my macbook pro. The hard disk itself seemed ok (S.M.A.R.T: verified), which I expected as I have Windows 7 running under bootcamp on a separate partition. (As a quick aside, Windows 7 was and still is running fine, and in fact I could successfully access and open all the files on my Mac partition from within windows. This allowed me to grad up-to-date copies of all my important files before taking more drastic action.) Verifying the mac partition resulted in a message saying the disk needed repairing. Attempting to repair the disk initially resulted in errors saying a clean install was required, though the repair succeeded on my 4th attempt. This repair failed to fix the problem and I was still getting the very slow running leading quickly to the same Finder error.
Eventually i decided my only option was to perform an erase and install of Snow Leopard. Initially I simply erased the partition using Disk Utility after booting from the install disk (default option) and then attempted to install Snow Leopard. The install failed repeatedly, alternating between 'An error has occured in the installation process' and 'Unable to install supprting files' error messages. I also tried repairing the disk after erasing and then installing with the same errors. I then performed a single-pass secure erase on the Mac partition (again from Disk Utility via the startup disk), verified the drive (finding an unassigned node error), successfully repaired the drive (twice, just to make sure) and attempted another installation, which again failed with the 'An error has occured in the installation process' error.
So I currently have a formatted Mac partition which refuses to accept a new Snow Leopard install and a fully working copy of Windows 7 running under bootcamp on a separate partition of the same disk. Is there anything else I can try other than reformating the entire hard drive and losing my bootcamp installation?

try this idea: Do a leopard install to an external disk then do a Disk Utility "restore" function to that clean partition. So you restore from the external to the internal partition. Should leave Bootcamp untouched.

iStat Pro shows GPU diode temp at 66 C, CPU at 48 C, Fan rpms is around 1000
Any ideas somebody ?
The hard disk has been previously checked with state of the art techniques that have confirmed that the hard disk drive is in perfect condition.

I have restored this
from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.

Most commonly used backup methods
There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.
