Install freeze in VirtualBox

I'm currently in the process of installing ArchLinux 2009.02 i686 in VirtualBox on a Lenovo SL500 ThinkPad.
Installation, seemingly freezes up during the package installation step.
Any Ideas?
Much appreciated thanks.

I can confirm this, I'm installing arch in virtualbox and I'm at the installing xorg phase, and every so often I have to ctrl-c and redo the pacman -S xorg because arch (or pacman) just freezes up in the middle of the download. No lights blink or anything so I know something just froze.
EDIT: there's a ticket currently on virtualbox's bug tracker about this issue. http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3511
Wow, that's a serious bug in that ticket! But it's about the host (windows) rebooting because the guest "does something", that seems to be something completely different then the guest hanging during installation.

Itunes 10.3.1.55 update on Windows XP install freeze.
I've tried to remove everything, restart PC and try a new install.
It fails at the same point, while copying files.

I too am having a very similar problem with cover artwork in Itunes version 10.3.1.55 for my Windows 7, 64 bit computer. Certain Artists or Albums cover art will not show up and also when I try to manually add my own cover to the album it does not save. I can however, view with the coverflow option but its useless without all the cover art. I would greatly appreciate any help with fixing this very annoying problem.
I've looked into the direct x suggestions and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Thanks anyway, Polydorus.

  • Installing arch under virtualbox - cannot open default display & stuff

    hi!
this is not my first time I try to install arch under virtualbox, and the results I get are the same.
Installation was pretty obvious: installed arch, added user to lp,wheel, games, video, audio, optical, storage, scanner, power, users groups, installed xorg (all group), installed virtualbox-guest-utils, added vboxvideo vboxsf and vboxguest to /etc/modules-load.d/virtualbox.conf. Also installed mesa and xf86-video-vesa.
Then I edited .xinitrc and added there /usr/bin/VboxClient-all line.
In result, when I try to launch X by typing startx, desktop changes resolution to a bigger one, then blank screen and the resolution changes back to previous, displaying the following:
If I try to launch any de (like bspwm or xfce4) I het a message saying "Can't open the default display".
The weirdest part is that if i change user to root, I can startx and the ugly twm will start, but if I try to launch de, I get the same error message.
Now, what have I missed during the installation which in result gives me what I get?
    Thank you.

Trilby wrote:Please post your actual .xinitrc.  The output in your screenshots indicates that X exited normally, without error.  In other words, nothing went wrong, it did what it was told to do, you just likely have not told it to do what you want.
good thing is that i actually installed xfce4 and uncommented the corresponding line in the .xinitrc and the xfce4 launced successfully. Maybe I was frustrated because under root I got something, and under user - failures.
The bad thing is that when I want now to launch bspwm with the following .xinitrc
I get a completely black screen with no response

  • Purchased recovery disk Vista for Satellite A205S4607 install freezes after files are copied

I purchased the recovery disks for Vista for Satellite A205S4607.  I had XP professional installed, but I could not find the drivers needed so I decided just to buy the disks.
I insert the disk, hold down C as it is booting.  The cd runs, and copies over the files, but once it gets to the status bar, the install freezes.  I let it "run" all night and it never came to an install screen.
    Any suggestions?

It sounds like it's likely a hardware failure in the laptop itself. Were you having problems previously?

  • FF4 install freezes win 7 during reboot and can't uninstall or reinstall

I upgraded to FF4 and it requested a reboot. Upon reboot, Windows 7 freezes up and repair or restore is required to get back into windows. If I try to reinstall or uninstall, the install program informs that states that I have to complete the previous install first and request I reboot. If I reboot it freezes windows up again. Therefore, I can't complete the installation or uninstall the FF4 to try a clean install.

The registry keyFactoryPreInstallInProgressin HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup was defined.

It also crashes on with Fedora 11 beta, so maybe this is 2.6.29-related.

Anyone an idea? Which bugtracker should I use for something like this....

I get the exact same thing
    VirtualBox with VT-X

    Crashing my whole pc.
    Vmware runs fine.
    I havent tested anything else..
and yeah the recent kernel started the issue.

  • Install freezes as soon as it starts

I just tried to install OS X Mountain Lion, but as soon as it starts the install, it seems to freeze.  It says continuously "Time remaining:  About 34 minutes" but the blue line isn't twisting and moving to show progress.  Seems frozen.  I have tried pressing the power button to turn it off, wait a few minutes, then press power button again, but when it comes up, it starts install over and freezes at the very start, with just the smallest sliver of blue on the far left of the measurement that tells how far along the install is.
What is UP with this, and why is the install hanging up like this?

If you are waiting three hours and the progress bar is unchanging, then you have a problem.
If you simply see it freeze and immediately label the install broken, I recommend being a little more patient. Progress bars have a tendency to be less than helpful when indicating the actual progress of anything.
When installing the system there are gigabytes of data that must be moved and processed. You should expect the install to take about thirty minutes of real time, and you can expect the progress bar to be wildly inaccurate.

  • When i upgraded to itunes 10.4 the install freezes during intallation

This first happened when i was prompted to upgrade to the newest version of itunes, when following the promts on screen the install of itunes freezes. There is no error code or warning comes up on my screen, it just freezes during the installation. it happenes after quicktime has been installed. i tried removing all itunes and associated programs and downloaded the latest version and tried installing again but it freezes every time.
any ideas on what the problem could be?

Just tried install again but it freezed at the same point after 'copying new files' the status bar gets to around 95% and stops.

Unable to install Crystal reports 2008 on server - Windows Server 2008 standard. This is required moving forward for troubleshooting purposes.
The installation freezes when determining disk space requirements.
I have tried copying the installation files locally to the server, but same issue occurs.
I have confirmed I am a local administrator, and there are no policies preventing installation.
I have installed this same software on other servers before.

Thomas's reply also worked for me!  Here is the cut/paste excerpt from the link he provided that was the filnal solution, so you won't have to go to that link an read the entire post:
go back to initial phases of the installation and add french into language packs.
    then pick custom installation.

  • PS CS6 64bit New Install Freezes on Opening on New Win7 64bit Workstaton

    Hello All,
Just installed CS6 on my new workstation and Photoshop; it freezes upon opening.
Every other program I have installed has worked flawlessly, including the rest of the CS6 Suite and Lightroom 5.
Both Windows and the Adobe Suite have all available updates already installed.
Computer is a new HP Z420 Xeon Workstation, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, 16GB Ram
    Thanks for any help

    Solved!
I was able to get ahold of someone at Adobe who had just faced this problem with another customer a few days ago and discovered the cure mainly by accident.
On some computers, with a brand new install, the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box opens up and then the application opens on top. The application is frozen waiting for the user to click to answer the dialog box but it is hidden in the background where the user can not see it. To solve the problem, the user needs to click on the PS icon at the bottom left of the screen. This causes a drop down to appear and the user can click on the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box, bringing it to the top where it can then be answered. Once it is answered, it does not appear again so, from then on, Photoshop opens normally.
This was one of those problems I could have spent a heck of alot of hours trying to resolve. Luckily I got ahold of the right person at Adobe.
