Install freeze on 6.0.1?

When I try to install iTunes 6.0.1 (firewall and AV turned off) I get through the beginning install screens (next, I accept, next, etc) but when the install setup status screen comes up with the status bar it says "iTunes Setup is performing the requested operations". However, the bar never starts to load, there is no hard drive or CPU activity. It just sits there. I just got my DRM fixed so I'm afraid to uninstall as it might screw me up again. Anyone see this before?

I ran into a slightly different version of this problem: I got iTunes 6 installed, and it completely froze out my iTunes to the point where I had to uninstall iTunes and then do a system restore to a week and a half before I updated before it would let me re-install the version that came with my iPod. Now I'm afraid to upgrade to iTunes 6 for fear of the same thin happening. BTW, the computer iTunes is installed on was a week old when I tried the upgrade.

Itunes 10.3.1.55 update on Windows XP install freeze.
I've tried to remove everything, restart PC and try a new install.
It fails at the same point, while copying files.

I too am having a very similar problem with cover artwork in Itunes version 10.3.1.55 for my Windows 7, 64 bit computer. Certain Artists or Albums cover art will not show up and also when I try to manually add my own cover to the album it does not save. I can however, view with the coverflow option but its useless without all the cover art. I would greatly appreciate any help with fixing this very annoying problem.
I've looked into the direct x suggestions and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Thanks anyway, Polydorus.

  • Purchased recovery disk Vista for Satellite A205S4607 install freezes after files are copied

I purchased the recovery disks for Vista for Satellite A205S4607.  I had XP professional installed, but I could not find the drivers needed so I decided just to buy the disks.
I insert the disk, hold down C as it is booting.  The cd runs, and copies over the files, but once it gets to the status bar, the install freezes.  I let it "run" all night and it never came to an install screen.
    Any suggestions?

It sounds like it's likely a hardware failure in the laptop itself. Were you having problems previously?

It is possible to click the red "abort" button but it wont stop the installer, instead it must be killed from task manager. The process called DPINST.EXE seems to be the culprit. It leaves the following message in the C:\WINDOWS\DPINST.LOG file:

    Finally found the solution:
The registry keyFactoryPreInstallInProgressin HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup was defined.
After deleting this key, the install went smoothly.

  • Install freezes as soon as it starts

I just tried to install OS X Mountain Lion, but as soon as it starts the install, it seems to freeze.  It says continuously "Time remaining:  About 34 minutes" but the blue line isn't twisting and moving to show progress.  Seems frozen.  I have tried pressing the power button to turn it off, wait a few minutes, then press power button again, but when it comes up, it starts install over and freezes at the very start, with just the smallest sliver of blue on the far left of the measurement that tells how far along the install is.
What is UP with this, and why is the install hanging up like this?

If you are waiting three hours and the progress bar is unchanging, then you have a problem.
If you simply see it freeze and immediately label the install broken, I recommend being a little more patient. Progress bars have a tendency to be less than helpful when indicating the actual progress of anything.
When installing the system there are gigabytes of data that must be moved and processed. You should expect the install to take about thirty minutes of real time, and you can expect the progress bar to be wildly inaccurate.

  • When i upgraded to itunes 10.4 the install freezes during intallation

This first happened when i was prompted to upgrade to the newest version of itunes, when following the promts on screen the install of itunes freezes. There is no error code or warning comes up on my screen, it just freezes during the installation. it happenes after quicktime has been installed. i tried removing all itunes and associated programs and downloaded the latest version and tried installing again but it freezes every time.

  • Crystal reports 2008 install freezes on disk space req.

Unable to install Crystal reports 2008 on server - Windows Server 2008 standard. This is required moving forward for troubleshooting purposes.
The installation freezes when determining disk space requirements.
I have tried copying the installation files locally to the server, but same issue occurs.
I have confirmed I am a local administrator, and there are no policies preventing installation.
I have installed this same software on other servers before.

Thomas's reply also worked for me!  Here is the cut/paste excerpt from the link he provided that was the filnal solution, so you won't have to go to that link an read the entire post:
go back to initial phases of the installation and add french into language packs.
    then pick custom installation.
    don't play with anything.
    and click to next...

  • PS CS6 64bit New Install Freezes on Opening on New Win7 64bit Workstaton

    Hello All,
Just installed CS6 on my new workstation and Photoshop; it freezes upon opening.
Every other program I have installed has worked flawlessly, including the rest of the CS6 Suite and Lightroom 5.
Both Windows and the Adobe Suite have all available updates already installed.
Computer is a new HP Z420 Xeon Workstation, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, 16GB Ram
    Thanks for any help

    Solved!
I was able to get ahold of someone at Adobe who had just faced this problem with another customer a few days ago and discovered the cure mainly by accident.
On some computers, with a brand new install, the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box opens up and then the application opens on top. The application is frozen waiting for the user to click to answer the dialog box but it is hidden in the background where the user can not see it. To solve the problem, the user needs to click on the PS icon at the bottom left of the screen. This causes a drop down to appear and the user can click on the "Help Adobe Products" dialog box, bringing it to the top where it can then be answered. Once it is answered, it does not appear again so, from then on, Photoshop opens normally.
This was one of those problems I could have spent a heck of alot of hours trying to resolve. Luckily I got ahold of the right person at Adobe.

    Tank you for your help
    Christian

I've gone ahead and done that and I still get the same results.  I also moved things out of the Application Data folder one by one to test those files as well.  A couple of times I could actually use Photoshop, but when I'd quit, it would stop working when I re-opened it.  I checked the Windows Application Event viewer again and found this:
Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 12.1.0.0, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.6010, fault address 0x0004b104.
I'd like to clarify that I am by no means a Windows user, and that I am only running Photoshop on XP for work, so bear with me on that.
    Thanks

  • X86 1/06 cd boot to install freeze

I'm trying to install the x86 1/06 version of Solaris 10. It boots from the CD into GRUB just fine, I pick Solaris default to boot too and it goes to a screen that says "SunOS Release 5.10 Version Generic_ etc etc"
theres a prompt but it just stops/freezes. After several hours it sometimes gets to a prompt where I chose the Solaris 1 default agian but thats it. It does absolutley nothing after that the prompt just sits there blinking and mocking me.

okey-dokey everybody, i figured out a few steps to get this problem working.
after using trusty google (google is your freeeeeeind), i found a post just like this where one of the developers(or someone around that rank) explained the problem.
lets see if i can get this right...
a bug got through the developers when solaris 10 was released.
this bug would cause a loop of some kind, and a kernel panic, but these pieces of information are not shown normally.
    they involve the bios's acpi
luky for you, i think i have all the solutions possible
solutions (from less to more drastic):
1: try to enable acpi in your cmos (y'now the thing you go into when you hit delete by accident)
2: add one of the following pieces at the end of the kernel line when you are in grub
    acpi-user-options=0x0
    acpi-user-options=2
    acpi-user-options=0x2
i think it varies for some systems, try all three
3:go to your motherboard, or computer manufacturer, and download the latest bios update, and bios flash utility (usually require a dos boot floppy, directions are usually on the site), and flash upgrade your bios (CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS, AND CAN RENDER YOUR SYSTEM UNBOOTABLE IF DONE WRONG)
4: buy a new board or system
you cannot perform step 1 if: your bios has no acpi features
    solution: proceed to step 3
you cannot perform step 2 if: you have no keyboard,
    solution: that's quite obvious
you cannot perform step 3 if: your bios is an eeprom
solution: put the computer back in the dump where you found it.
you cannot perform step 4 if: you have no money
    solution: find a job somewhere
if it doesn't work still, you're hooped (i think)
    hope this helps
    (sorry to bug you all)

  • Win 7 install freezes I975Xa-YDG/T7200

I have tried installing the Beta and RC versions, 32 and 64 bit, none of which will get beyond 1% "Expanding files" before the system locks up completely. Even simply booting from the DVD and doing absolutely nothing once the blue screen appears, will result in the system freezing after ~5 minutes.
I have disabled every option possible in BIOS, and swapped out nearly every piece of hardware possible, yet nothing has helped.
The system I am attempting to install to is a second PC. My primary system works perfectly.
The system in question: (it's an oddball, for sure)
    AOpen I975Xa-YDG Mobo (975X/ICH7) Socket M ATX (BIOS 1.10)
    Intel T7200 Core2Duo (Mobile CPU) EM64T 2.0GHz 667FSB 4MB
    2GB DDR2 667
    ATI HD 4650
    WD 640GB SATA
    LG SATA DVD-RW
XP installed and works fine, after installing all the extra drivers.
I have tried swapping the RAM into various DIMMs, as well as different sticks. No change.
I have swapped video cards with my main system (HD4670) with no luck.
The only item that had any effect, was swapping in a IDE DVD-RW, and that only allowed it get to 13% expanding files before locking up, one time. Repeated attempts resulted in the same 0-1% progress before having to do a hard reset. The IDE DVD-RW was the one used to burn the DVD's, as well as installing on the primary system.
Both the Beta and RC installed and work fine on my AMD 790GX/6000+ system, from the same DVD's that fail in the 2nd system. I have even reinstalled after having many failed attempts on the other system, just to rule a bad DVD. (4 bad DVD's would be extremely unlikely, yet none will work in the 2nd system)
I have been trying, to no avail, since the Beta became available, but it seems nothing will allow Win 7 to install on this rather unique system configuration. The only successful thing to occur, has been killing the original install of XP, and that reinstalled without issue.
    Truly stumped.
BTW, I ran the Win 7 "Upgrade advisor" on the system, and it returned no issues other than a minor driver issue for the Realtek HD audio. I have the same Realtek HD audio chipset on my AMD system. It works fine in Win 7.

I know that this board should work, but sometimes there is a moment in time where it hits you upside the head to say "Ok, enough is enough"  I have had issues with (as I have said in these forums before) with certain mainboards.  So I have stuck to the bigger manufacturers, Asus, Intel, Foxconn (they build for Dell and Intel and many others) and sometimes even BioStar.  I have never used AOpen products (although I know that contract themselves out too like Foxconn), and would have thrown the board out long ago on a situation like this.  Maybe it is time for that?  Unless you have a circuit testing setup, you may never understand why it isn't working.  The board I had troubles with didn't have any popped caps, burn marks, heat issues or any other problem that was viewable or testable.  But when you make, say 100 systems and 30 come back because of corrupt data issues, you have an BIG turnover issue.  If a smaller company like mine gets 5% back in warranties, it's a liablity.  I know this is a long winded reply but sometimes there isn't always a way to know why a board is bad.  If it takes 3 hours to figure it out, you can buy another one for the same labor costs.  My advice (after spending am hour on the boards and sites looking for a socket M motheboard is abandon board and processor.  Cheap combos are out there, I sell one for $150.  How much time have you spend reloading the os over and over, how much is your time and sanity worth?

  • Windows 7 on Pavilion a6500f--Clean Install Freezes

I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on the Pavilion a6500f.
I am installing to a newly formatted drive partition.
All goes well untill the very end when the setup program says it is completing the installation.
Then the computer freezes/locks up.  No movement on the screen, no mouse response, etc.
I am guessing it is some problem with driver for video or audio, etc, but don't know how to proceed.
Nvidia has WIN 7 drivers on their website, but how would I integrate/slipstream these into the install?
Just wanted to add: This is 64-bit version of WIN 7 Pro, final release paid for version.
I noticed another person had exact same machine and install problem using RC version back in June 2009 with no resolution.
