Install Grid COntrol on Linux 5.2 (Tikanga)
We have Oracle 11g on Redhat Linux 5.2. I tried to install grid control 10.2.0.5. According to Oracle document, I need fist install a full installation 10.2.0.3, then upgrade it to 10.2..0.5. I downloaded from Oracle the 10.2.0.3 grid control software, and tried to install. Have some problems and questions:
1) Is it on the right track to install 10.2..0.3 and then upgrade to 10.2.0.5
2) are these versions of GC good for manage Oracle 11g database
3) when I install 10.2.0.3, I got error message right away:
[oracle@cchdb Disk1]$ ./runInstaller
Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
Checking installer requirements...
Checking operating system version: must be redhat-3, redhat-4, SuSE-9 or asianux-2
Failed <<<<
It appear not support redhat-5. What is the right file I need to download from Oracle.
Many thanks.
I saw a couple of therads here install Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.3 on Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5.2 64bit seccssfully, like the post by yakub21 titled "Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5 64bit and Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.3 Install".
I just cannot understand why I got error soon when I run runInstaller. I got error message

Linux - Installing Grid Control repo into 10.1.0.3
There are several metalink forum notes discussing problems with trying to install Grid Control on linux into any database 9.2.0.4 to 10.1.0.2 and in fact there is a patch that discusses the same problem but is only available for 10.1.0.2 or 9.2.0.4 but I don't see anything that discusses 10.1.0.3. Can I take the patch for 10.1.0.2 and use it for my 10.1.0.3 database?
Hmm Yes your problem is with the installer and RHA 3.
Are you using the new 10.1.0.3 Downloads? Surely this doesnt hit the bug (which is from 9.2.0.5 to 10.1.02)
I've managed to install 10.1.0.2 RDBMS + patch upto 10.1.0.3 on RHA 2.1
Our 10G OMS has been round for abit I'm afraid and is on RHA 2.1. So I cant help I'm afraid. -

2.1 Install Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2
Installing 10g Grid Control Release 4 requires any previous releases of Grid Control, that is any 10.2.0.x.0 installation, and upgrade to 10.2.0.4.0 release. If you do not have a previous release, but want to have a 10.2.0.4.0 Grid Control environment, then first install 10.2.0.1.0 Grid Control (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows), and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4.0.
- Download Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 Grid Control from:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html
Refer the directions provided to download and unzip the product, and install 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows).
- Installing Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 Grid Control:
The fast and recommended method is to perform a software only installation of 10.2.0.1.0 (10.2.0.2.0 for Windows) and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4.0
Download for version 10.2.0.1 is on the same site.

The line "skipping bad jar, '/u01/binaries/wls/wls1035_generic.jar'" is the one that's worring me. Can it be corrupt? Or it is something else?
Thanks in advance. Its too early to conclude the issue is a bug with out looking into the logs. For the same reason i requested you to open an SR so that we can have a look at the logs and identify the cause. If you are Oracle employee then you can share the VM details else we need logs to debug this further. If any one from your company can open an sr and share logs then that will be helpful. Can you also check if the shiphome that you downloaded is all correct and checksum/byte matches to what is mentioned on OTN.

System not started after installing grid control
HI,
I have installed grid control 10.2.0.1 on 11g r2 on rhel5.After installing grid control, whenever system get booted, it got hanged and saying
after starting up the listener
sql>ora-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109:could not open parameter file '/raczone/init%s_reposSID.ora'
sql>disconnectdfailed
opmnctl:starting opmn and all managed process...
CRS-4124: oracle high availability services startup
crs-4000:command start failed, or completed with errors>Hi,
Thanks for the reply!!!
I have installed 11g grid infra on 2 nodes and then try to install 10g grid control on node 1 but when i am booting my system it got hanged and throw an error:
sql>ora-01078: failure in processing system parameter
LRM-00109:could not open parameter file '/raczone/init%s_reposSID.ora'
sql>disconnectdfailed
opmnctl:starting opmn and all managed process...
CRS-4124: oracle high availability services startup
crs-4000:command start failed, or completed with errors>
then i have to forcefully bring down the system and started the linux in a single user mode and thereover i have to move or rename the dir to some other location, then only system get started.after starting up the system i have to again move or rename the grid control dir to org location.
So my question is which file or dir is forcing system to startup the grid control on boot? -
Does any one success to install Grid control 11G (OEL x86_64)/Virtualbox
Hi all,
I'm trying since 4 days to install Grid Control 11G with these following specifications:
1) Weblogic 10.3.2 (OK)
2) Database Repository (11.2.0.2) OK
3) Java version : /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_18
4) Operating System Oracle Linux x86_64
And the last news: all this under Virtualbox
Some one can share his experience with us for this purpose.
Thanks in advance

How to install Grid Control 10g Release 3?
Hello,
I need install Grid Control 10g Release 3 for Linux x86_64 on SUSE 9, and I need some tips about this instalation.
I need registry 3 database, 1 DB is 10g and the others are in 9.2.
Can I help me?
Thank'sIf you installed the 64-bit SLES-9, you are on the only platform that has a full install of 10gR3 Grid Control available:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html
Everyone else must install 10gR2 fully, then patch up to 10gR3.
Run runInstaller to start installation
- When asked for "install type" option, choose "Enterprise Manager using New Database" option
- Complete installation as per install guide
- Install the 10gR3 agent install on any additional servers that require monitoring.
Load and execute orarun to enable the correct kernel options if you not done so already. It can be downloaded from www.suse.com/oracle. Comment out any IPv6 entries from /etc/hosts. The O/S should be setup similar to the AS 10.1.2 install doc for SLES9:
http://ftp.novell.com/partners/oracle/docs/iAS10gR2_sles9_install.pdf -
Where to install grid control in RAC
We havea three node RAC of 11.2. Our server boxes are redhat linux 2.5, each has 30 gb memory. Now want to install grid control, and we have the following questions
1) How much impact is on the RAC if install the OMS on one of the nodes?
2) How much impact is on the RAC if install the Management Repository on one of the RAC databases?
3) Is is necesasry to instal an agent on each of the RAC node?
Thanks. One direction I see happening with Oracle product-related directories is
ORACLE_BASE - top for all Oracle related directories
ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory - master inventory
ORACLE_BASE/grid - top for the three homes mentioned
ORACLE_BASE/crs - top for Clusterware ... must be owned by root
ORACLE_BASE/product - all other Oracle product software
ORACLE_BASE/oradata - all databases mount points using OFA
ORACLE_BASE/admin - all database admin info
ORACLE_BASE/logs - redirect for all logs
This might be useful. -
Installing Grid Control - new instance - then db server?
Linux 64 bit system. We plan to dual purpose a Grid control instance on the same Linux server as a reporting database server, running Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4, GC at 10.2.0.5 (the reporting db may or may not be managed under this grid control instance - other servers will have agents deployed to be managed by this Grid control instance). Neither have yet been installed. I'd prefer to have Grid Control running on it's own instance completely separate from the reporting database, in separate homes. Is this possible? Also, would it be better to install Grid control first, in its own home, then install the other database instance in it's own home? Or vice-versa? Or does it matter? If there's a document or note that covers this, I would be most appreciative if someone could point me to it.
Thanks!
KellyThe Grid Control Repository database can be in the Same HOME as the OMS, however the database version for the GC repository may not be the version you want. I almost always setup a HOME for my grid control respository database sep. from my OMS home. This serves 2 purposes. 1 the security patches for my database and my database version can be kept up to date sep. from my OMS. Also allows me to sep the OMS from the database onto different servers much easier later.
I would recommend using a sep ORACLE_HOME for GC repository database from the OMS. This has made my life simplier in the past as the database version in the OMS binaries is usually a few revisions behind and I like to keep my DBs on the latest patch set for support purposes.
The means that your server will have 3 homes
1 for GC Repoistory Database
1 for Reporting database
1 for OMS
At least this is the way I would do it, unless really stapped for disk space for the additional homes. -

Susan JohnHi Susan
Are you using a X11 emulator like Exceed ?
Or let me know if you are using another X11 emulator.
then try this:
Solution Description
Exceed 6.0.1:
- Run Xconfig (Start->Programs->Exceed->Xconfig)
- Double-Click "Video"
- Set
Server Visual: PseudoColor
- Reset Server as proposed by Xconfig
Exceed 7.1.0:
- Run Xconfig (Start->Programs->Hummingbird Connectivity V7.1->Exceed->Xconfig)
- Double-Click "Screen Definition"
- Set
Server Visual: PseudoColor
- Click OK
- Double-Click "Protocol"
- Uncheck "Use 32 Bits Per Pixel For TrueColor"
- Reset Server as proposed by Xconfig
Otherwise directly on Solaris please control that :
Check if the monitor has minimum 256 color.
Run the following command from the Operating System command line
COLOR=`/usr/openwin/bin/xwininfo -root 2>&1`
if [ `echo $COLOR | grep -i depth | awk '$2>=8 {print "good"}' | grep -c "good" ` -ge 1 ]
then
echo "Adequate"
elif test -z "$DISPLAY"
then
echo "DISPLAY is not set"
elif [ `echo $COLOR | grep unable | wc -l` -ge 1 ]
then
echo "Cannot open DISPLAY"
else
echo "Need at least 256 colors"

what's the result of that command?
Are you able to open xterm or xclock without any issues?

Install Grid Control and use repository within a DataGuard configuration
Hello,
I need some information if anyone has experience in the following
We have severel database running in DataGuard standby configuration.
I want to install OMS 11.1 and use the repository in a primary and standby configuration.
My configuration will look like this:
host 1 Primary Repository database
OMS service 1
host 2 Standby Repository database
OMS service 2
During normal operation i want to have 2 OMS services running.
Whenever a failover is necessary, i want to active my standby database and run OMS service 2.
Can this be a working configuration?
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
BenHi.
As far as I know, the dbconsole installed with the Oracle database applies for only one database on one server. The information accessed by the dbconsole relies within the sysman schema inside the actual database. For a database environment with 10 databases, it is possible to install grid control and manage all these databases despite version and OS. And I think that grid is a good solution to such an environment.
The grid installation itself is a application server installation, and I suggest if possible that you separate the rdbms server and the server that contains the grid control.
The repository database the grid control uses can either be installed in the 10g environment or in the grid control environment (server). You can place the repository in a new database in a separate ORACLE_HOME from the actual grid control application server.
Good luck.

Trouble with 10g after Installing Grid Control
Main problem: after installing Grid Control and rebooting, I can no longer access my databases.
I have 10g installed on a fairly decent Windows XP machine. It was running okay, but I had two Oracle database instance processes running at 200mb of RAM each (of a total of 1 GB of RAM), so it was a bit bogged down, as is to be expected when running Oracle as a server on Windows.
I then installed Grid Control, which seemed to go okay, and another database as well. But once the install completed, and I gained access to the Grid Control version of the OEM for the first time, that's when things got wacky. Connecting to any OEM instance started taking anywhere from 2-10 minutes, everything was bogged down considerably, etc. I tried shutting everything down and rebooting, but now things are worse. OEM is timing out and not finding servers, listener is timing out, etc. I've tried manipulating a few things in Net Manager (I noticed that my LISTENER section didn't seem to contain any data at all, and my databases weren't listed in there either) with no result.
I've also had trouble with "host credentials" and being able to administer the databases within the OEM, even after implementing a fix I had found to add my user name to a "log on as batch job" local security policy.
Finally, I noticed that after installing Grid Control, when I run "sqlplus", I now see "Oracle91 Enterprise Edition" instead of the "Oracle10g" it used to show (and I never had anything but 10g installed on this machine!).
Here's what happens when I try to access my dBs:
-When I try to launch the OEM connected to any of the 3 databases I created (which were previsouly running), the browser just times out with "page cannot be displayed".
-When I run "emctl start <ANYTHING>" I get file/path not found errors, and a file path with both forward and backward slashes (starting after the "agent" directory):
C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\agent/<...etc.>
-When I try to test a connection to a service in Net Manager, I get this error:
ORA-12557: TNS:protocol adapter not loadable
I had to manually add my listener info and databases info(under Service Naming) in Net Manager, but everything appeared fine in Oracle Directory Manager (unfortunately, that doesn't help much, since this is just a general info tool).
I am nothing near a DBA and my knowledge is limited, so I apologize for not being more consise, but I'd be glad to elaborate if someone could tell me what they need to know.
Thank you,
JohnYes; thank you both. Although I had 1 GB physical and 1.5 GB virtual memory configured, running Grid Control seemed to completely kill all available resources.
I have removed GC and its related database and applications, and I can again conncet to my databases via Database Control. Thank you.
By the way, another issue has arisen, seemingly in the aftermath of installing GC: my OEM Database Control instances now time out after about 60 seconds, logging me out each and every time. I have cookies enabled, but this doesn't seem to be the trouble. Is there a Web setting somewhere that will kick users out of the instance at timed intervals? -

Error installing Grid Control 11g
Hi. I'm trying to install Grid Control 11g without success.
I'm using SuSe Enterprise 10 sp3, already installed weblogic 10.3.2 and created a database instance for repository without problems.
The installation process fails when reaches the 'OMS configuration' step. Here's the last part of the omsca log file (log says to check the 'omsca_20110209122055.log' file for more info, but it points to itself):
