Install help; ACR 5.4; intel imac

Hi--I'm using PSE6 on iMac (Leopard) and downloaded ACR 5.4 and instructions on Adobe site say go to:
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/FileFormats
to copy the Camera Raw plugin
but I don't see a 'Plug-Ins' folder inside Library/Application Support/Adobe so I'm kind of stuck!
(I'm following these instructions)  Hopefully, I'm being clear enough.
Thanks.

EDIT:  Solved--silly enough; just had to be in root folder as instructions state (ie:  double click on hard drive icon & then navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats; there is no access to the Plugins folder from a regular user home folder, even if you are an admin for the system)

See my edit--self solved the issue.

  • Help transferring to new intel iMac

    Hello,
I will be getting a new intel iMac in the next week or two, to replace my failing revision A iMac G5. My problem is that the old machine will not be here anymore when the new machine arrives, and I want to make the transition as smooth as possible. I will have a complete backup of the G5 on an external firewire drive, and was wondering if I can use the migration assistant to update from there? Would there be any major problems with preferences that are transferred from the G5 to the intel? What are some of the problems, or quirks I should look out for? Will my Epson Stylus Photo 960 still work? I'm sure the HP Deskjet 970 Cse is no longer an option. Will M$ Office work ok in Rosetta? I know that FCEHD will need to be updated, but that's about all I really need to worry about right now, the kids games can be replaced/updated all in due time, (slowly.)
I know it's a bunch of questions, and I appreciate any and all advice.
    Thanks,
    Eric.

    Eric,
Surprise! both the Epson and the HP 970cse are on the list as having new universal binary drivers already installed inside the Tiger OS that will arrive on your iMac Intel.

  • Can't install logic studio on my Intel iMac

I have logic pro 7.2 installed on my intel iMac, which now runs maverics. However I now want to install my logic studio upgrade but I get an error saying that power pc applications are no longer supported. How do I get logic studio on my machine which clearly should work as it is built for intel macs when Logic pro 7.2 runs fine!

The following thread contains the method that uses Pacifist to achieve an installation of older Logic Pros on a Mac with more modern OS X versions when the installer no longer works...
I am assuming the LS upgrade is to LP8?

  • Problems installing VMware and parallel on Intel imac

I have just bought a quad core i5 iMac and tried to install vmware but it tells me it can only install on an intel based mac, but it is an intel based mac, anyone got any ideas why its not recognised as an intel mac?

    You're welcome anytime.
    Glad to be of help.
Yes, with Parallels it is also only the latest version 7 that is fully Lion-compatible.
Such a "dubious" error message is up tp Parallels or Fusion to correct.

  • Install Leopard on new 27" Intel iMac

We're still a CS3 house, no funds to update all the hardware and software to enable us to upgrade all our users to CS4 ... until late next year. In the meantime, everyone is running Leopard (G4s, G5s, and up).
In the meantime, however, we've purchased several new 27" iMacs, all of which come with Snow Leopard, which we cannot downgrade. I spoke with an Apple tech today, and was told that I could partition the hard drive to install Leopard and Snow Leopard, but I don't know how to do this. Since the new iMac will NOT boot to the Leopard DVD, how do I get Leopard onto the second partition? I've created the partitions and Snow Leopard is running on the smaller partition. Migration Assistant will move the users, apps and files over to the other partition, but not the O.S.
Can I simply just copy the Leopard System Folder from the old QuickSilver (which the iMac is replacing) onto the partition on the iMac which I want to run Leopard? I know this used to work in the olden days ( ... sigh), but I'm doubtful that it's that easy these days.
    Thanks for your help.

I understand how the budget is the budget--and that it will only stand so much.

Unfortunately, the tech gave you bad advice. You won't be able to run Leo on your machine.

Unfortunately, no. The good old days are gone. You won't even be able to run Leo on an external drive.

  • Finder quits constantly - help please! (i7 Intel iMac, 10.6.7)

    I've got an Intel i7 iMac, 27" with 8GB ram / 1TB HDD running Snow Leopard 10.6.7
Since I bought my iMac, Finder constantly quits on me. I can have two folders open, either external HDD and MacHD, or two folders on the MacHD and when i'm dragging and dropping image files, Finder will just close and reset itself. In the course of using it over the past hr, it's reset about 20 times.... Everything stays mounted on the desktop, just the folder closes and reopens again...
Also, when I use thumbnail view to view image files (quite large files), randomly and for no reason, all the images in the folder will pixelate and not display correctly, until eventually Finder resets itself again. However once reset, all the images stay pixelated until I reboot the Mac from scratch!!!
I've tried numerous things, such as creating a new profile, doing a disk repair, verifying permissions and even an Archive and Install - but still the problem persists!! It's driving me mad....
Any thoughts on what could be causing these problems and any idea how I can stop them from happening?
    thanks
    Gary

I would contact AppleCare again and let them know what you have attempted and what the result was. Also I would recommend buying AppleCare to extend the warranty, you can find it discounted by buying from Amazon or LA Computer company or other authorized Apple resellers.
If you have an AppleStore in your area  you can also make and appointment with a Genius and they can look it over for free and give you some recommendations.
As a last resort doing a full erase and install is an option. However please make sure your system is backed up using Time Machine so you can easily restore your data.

  • Installed WinXP on Intel iMac: No sound device!

I purchased a 20-inch Intel iMac a few days ago. I installed bootcamp and WinXP, but there was NO SOUND!
The control panel told me there was no audio device. So, I downloaded from Intel website, the "Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC". I got the error message " This audio device is not supported by the board"
I tried to install couple different audio drivers, but nothing seems to work so far. If there is any advice/suggestion, I would greatly appreciate!
    Urgently need help.

Also, with a new Mac you have 90 days of free phone tech support & 3 years of same if you purchased AppleCare.
You can also check out Chat with a Support Agent. The online chat support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Installing an existing copy of CS3 to new Intel iMac

I want to install CS3 on my new Intel iMac (moving from my almost defunct PPC G5 tower) which will run Snow Leopard.
I understand using the migrate feature may not be a good idea.
Problem is, I have the CS3 upgrade disc. I do have my original CS full version.
Will the CS version install on an Intel Mac? I was planning on installing CS
and then upgrading with my CS3 disk. Will this work? If not please suggest another method.
I have PS7 and CS full install disks and CS2 and CS3 update disks.
    Thanks

You should only need the serial number from the version you upgraded from. If you went from CS to CS3 then have the CS serial and disk handy.
I don't remember if the installer wants you to pop the CS disk in for verification or not.

  • SilverKeeper backup doesn't work correctly with Intel iMac and 10.4.8

I use SilverKeeper 1.1.4 to backup daily to a LaCie drive. But it will no longer do automatic backups (that is, wake computer from sleep at 6am before I start the day) since I migrated from PowerBook G4 to new Intel iMac 24". It only starts the backup when I come and wake computer, not by itself, which it had done before...The SilverKeeper people have been unable to help me.
New Intel iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Could very well be that SilverKeeper's scheduling function no longer works with 10.4.8. Let me suggest alternatives that do:
    1. Deja Vu
    2. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    3. Synchronize! Pro X
All are universal binaries. You can find them at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.

  • 10.6 will not install on my 20" intel imac circa 2007....HELP

I have a 20" intel imac that I purchased new in to 2007. It has the 2.1x (can't remember and I'm at work, sorry..) intel core 2 duo processor and 2G of memory. I have tried 2 separate 10.6 disks (one 10.6 and one 10.6.3) to upgrade my imac from 10.5.8 to 10.6 in order to use my new magic trackpad and both disks say "OSX cannt be installed on this computer". Please help. I have browsed on the forums around the net and have tried to find what the problem is, I have tried running the install and booting the computer from the disks and neither worked. I am not very proficient with programming or the behind the scenes of my mac, but I think I have managed to reset the PRAM , which was a suggestion on a forum, but still no luck. Can someone help me out. It would be greatly appreciated!

Intel imac 2009. Grey screen with question mark folder. Changed harddrives 3 times now. Tired 5 keyboards on all Usb ports and a hub and keyboard wont boot to startup or safemode of anything but hub gets power. disc drive wont eject or accept a disc cuz keyboard commands not being sent to computer. Keyboards must be connected directly to the USB port, not through a hub.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Need Urgent Help Cannot install Mac OSX 10.6 on 20" intel imac

I recently purchased an intel imac an intel mac pro from an auction. When i purchased the macs i was told that no operating systems will installed and i would need to purchase and install mac osx10.
I purchased the mac osx10.4.6 family pack from the apple store online.
i put the new disc in the mac and restarted holding down c.
for some reason nothing happens and i get folder with a question mark.
I have tried this several times but nothing seems to work.
I am a complete novice with macs and migrsting from pc.
    thanks

You cannot buy a retail version of Tiger that will install on any Intel Macs. You must have the original installer discs that came with the computer. You should not have purchased the computers without them nor should they have been sold to you without them.
The only option you have is to call AppleCare or go to a local Apple store and see if you can purchase the discs needed for each computer (there are different versions for each model.)

  • Intel iMac G5, black screen during erase and install -- PLEASE HELP!

My sister's Intel iMac G5 seriously has been a lemon, it has had SO many issues. It's now 2 years old, and has been rather slow for the maybe the last year, but over the last month or so it has gone way downhill, and it literally takes an hour to boot up, and 4-5 minutes to do anything (open an application, look at a photo in iPhoto, etc.). So, we've been trying to "erase and install" with her install discs to hopefully give the computer a clean boot and see if it helps at all. She has already backed everything up.
She started the erase and install last night, and it was going ridiculously slow. This morning when she woke up, the blue progress bar had gone about half way across. Then she went to get her kids ready, and when she came back in it looked like the computer was rebooting itself (gray screen with apple), but then the screen turned black and she can't do anything on it. Has anyone seen anything similar to this before?
We have had so much trouble getting this to work (we tried an archive and install a few days ago, but it gave her an error at the end). For about a day we couldn't even get the computer to boot up at all, but then miraculously yesterday morning it booted! Please help, I've converted her to Macs but if I can't get hers fixed she may never get one again!!

Does she have the Apple Hardware Test CD/DVD?

  • HELP: Intel iMac does not accept Tiger install DVD

A friend bought a used intel imac w/o any of the restore discs. He bought Tiger and wiped the hard drive but the computer will not start up from the Tiger disc when holding down C. How can we install Tiger onto this computer? Any ideas?
    Thanks!!

An intel Mac will only boot from the installer disk that came with it. It's an intel Tiger installer disk. You can't use a ppc Tiger installer disk. So, he needs to get the disks that came originally with the Mac. Or, wait for Leopard.

  • Intel iMac with 10.5.8 - Grey Screen of Death but worse please help!

Okay, this has happened three times now in six months, and I'm about to go out of my mind. Everytime it's a little different but basically:
My iMac becomes unresponsive, whether by a system lock up, or I wake up in the morning (like this morning) to a black screen with the white light still on, as if it were asleep. Nothing I do wakes the computer or otherwise makes it respond, so I hold the power button down for a few seconds and it shuts off.
Now, when I boot up, I get a grey screen with the Apple logo with the spinning black/grey pinwheel.
Inserting a CD does nothing. In fact, now my only install CD of Leopard is stuck in the slot-loading drive. I've tried everything I can to eject it: hold down eject on boot, left mouse button on boot, option on boot, commandoption+pr, command+v, etc. etc. etc.
I'm a software developer for OS X and have extensive hardware knowledge, so I kind of know a bit about what I'm doing.
The iMac will not boot off of a CD. It doesn't even recognize the CD. I have an external USB 2.0 hard drive with a current Time Machine backup, but I don't think those are bootable.
Anyway, in the past, to resolve this issue, I've had to take the iMac apart, put the internal hard drive into an external enclosure, and mount the drive onto my MacBook Pro. Interestingly enough, when I do this the drive mounts perfectly fine and shows all files exactly as they should be. So it's something to do with Leopard destroying it's boot record, or some other system configuration.
Even worse, I cannot simply reinstall Mac OS X from the laptop, because the installer says the hard drive needs to be formatted before an install can occur. So either way I'm losing all my data (even though as I said I have a current backup).
Well this time I haven't taken it apart yet. But the install CD is stuck in the drive. Even if I got the hard drive out, and mounted on my MacBook, my other install CD is too damaged to use, so I MUST get this CD out of the iMac.
    My questions are:
What do you do when the grey screen of death occurs, and the computer won't even boot off of the CD?
What do you do to get a CD stuck in an iMac out? Especially when the iMac is in the grey screen of death mode?
What in the world is causing this to happen EVERY 3-6 MONTHS??!
Someone please help... I'm going insane.

Hi I am having the identical problem with my 24" intel iMac 2007..... Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I'm on round 3 now and with a completely blank grey screen and it won't start up from the disk 1.. I also have diskwarrior and techtool pro as well as the osx leopard and snow leopard disk... The HD is new.. Replaced by apple 3 months ago.. Don't know the cause the first time this happened about 9 months ago.. 2nd time, 6 months ago it never rebooted from the office for mac 2008 critical update... Did a clean install after backing up to TC... Took it to apple replaced HD even though it appeared ok, they checked all hardware and I ran techtool pro daily ever since. Last week software update had several updates avail. Office for mac being one of them.. I updated and have never booted since.. . I swear to never ever use another Microsoft product as long as I live if I can just fix this once more... Help me please
