Install iLife 08 AND iLife 06 ?

I like all of the features in 08 except the some features in iPhoto are not supported by other applications yet (Shutterfly.com exports). Is it possible to install the 08 version and keep a working copy of 06 ?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes, you can have both versions running. However, you have to be careful not to open a library with the other version or it will make it unavailable to the original version. You should launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed so you can choose the correct library to open.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Gray G4 disks for installing Tiger and iLife--usable? legit?

Hi. I "waded in" to this forum to look for the answer to my question. I got all the way to page 7 with no results before I decided to post this question.
I have seen on eBay what the sellers say are "full installs" of Tiger and iLife 06. But in order to use these (gray) ibook G4 disks, you have to have a G4 ibook. Unless—
that is, if you have a Mac that is capable of running Tiger but is not an ibook G4, you can use these disks along with a 3rd disk—included—called "Adapted Universal Install DVD".
Has anyone had any experience with this product? More important—are these things legal?

Not true unless the iBook computer build is the same as the install package was or is intended for. The install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model and build specific and cannot be used to install Tiger on another Mac unless the model and build are identical.

I've never heard of a disc called "Adapted Universal Install DVD" but I don't recommend wasting your time trying to save what amounts to a few bucks only on claims this Tiger install package will work on your Mac. If it doesn't work (and I don't believe it will), you will be out the money spent via eBay on false claims and have to spend additional money purchasing a Tiger retail install package.
If you want or need to install Tiger, don't waste your time on this and spend a little more money up front to purchase a Tiger retail install package.

  • Can I install Leopard and iLife 09, but keep iPhoto 05

    Hi,
I've tried looking for this answer and have come up empty. Can anyone tell me if I could upgrade my system to Leopard and iLife 09, but keep certain iLife 05 programs like iPhoto 05 and iMovie HD? The new box set is a good deal, but the new versions of those two programs sound worse than the old ones. iPhoto 09 seem to be a space hog with multiple copies of every picture, and iMovie 09 won't even run on my processor speed. I was also worried that iLife 09 programs might be too powerful for my older Mac and hang it up, but iLife 05 would be unsupported on Leopard and also get hung up. Anyone have any thoughts on this subject?
    Thanks,
    Ed

iPhoto 09 seem to be a space hog with multiple copies of every picture
iPhoto '09 keeps no copies - it will, just like iPhoto 5, have either two or three versions of a photo - the original, a thumbnail and if required a modified version
For this you get non destructive editing and always have the ability to revert to the original (the digital negative)
iPhoto '09 does take a lot of CPU resource - I have a 2.1 GHz G5 and it does bog down from time to time (the 8.0.3 upgrade made this much worse - I'm hoping that 8.0.4 or what ever improves the CPU needs)
And the feature set of iPhoto '09 is amazing compared to iPhoto 5 -- unless you have a memory shortage, or a disk shortage I would expect your 1.8 GHz G5 to handle iPhoto '09 acceptably - I've seen no one say it is worse that iPhoto 5 or 6 - an very, very, very few people have gone back to '08 (the report - I suspect that they stick with '09 for the most part since it does so much more)
Just the new format books with laminated photo covers and photo dust covers are reason enough to upgrade for me (and lots of others) - samples of the new book layouts can be seen at Liz Castro's web site - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • Iphoto wont open after system upgrade and iLife install

I installed Leopard and reallized i had to also buy iLife because the old version of iphoto was not supported by the the new operating system. Installed iLife and everything works exept iphoto. It acts as though it is "loading library" and then a pop-up window shows up saying:
"The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iphoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previouse versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library."
I have hit "upgrade". But it still does not open.
I have about 9000 photos saved on an external drive.
I have repaired permissions as well as trashed iphoto and re-installed.
I read similar posts and am tempted to create a new library with library photo manager but am affraid i will lose some of my pictures.
I should include that because I couldn't open after the os update, I went into the my photo folders through finder and added new pix that I needed to get off of my camera. I've sinced trashed those folders.
    Any ideas?
    THanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Thanks for the heads up on the out of date screenshot of BatChmod. It's been updated now. If all you your efforts to get your library updated and running fail you might try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It creates a new library based on the data in the AlbumData.xml file and leaves your current library untouched. Here's how that would work:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

    Aarrggghhhh, you in Australia, gotcha!
Merchandise prices are in U$D on all links I posted.
Amazon does shipping globally - see more here for AU shipping rates (in U$D)

You can sign up for an account with them, being the largest online retailer in the world, they take all major credit cards and/or PayPal account as well.
If I were you, Id do some research on Australian online stores for iLife package before going with Amazon, maybe you could find it cheaper there. But given the bad shape the US Dollar has been in, you might also get a better deal with Amazon, because U$D is so dirt cheap these days!
I got my iLife 11 on Amazon. I buy Apple hardware on Apple's refurbished store, parts on OWC, and software on Amazon

I purchased a MacBook Pro, used, and although it has Mavericks, ilife and iWork are not installed, the seller must have deleted them (or never installed them?) When I go to the app store, they show they need to be purchased. I thought they were included? How do I reinstall?

I installed Mac OS 10.9.4, but did not get iLife and iWorks. How can I obtain these? Somebody talked about redemption codes, but I did not find any extra information. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance and best regards

If your computer shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, install them from the computer's original disks.
If your computer shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID used to register the computer, click on the Purchases tab, and download them.
If neither of these is applicable, buy them from the Mac App Store.

Does your Mac meet the requirements?
    Lion 10.7 System Requirements
        •    Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor (most models released since late 2006 - early Intel-based Macs with Core Solo or Core Duo processors aren't compatible)
        •    2GB of memory (recommend at least 4GB -- and ideally even more, as you'll see benefits in many computing tasks)
        •    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended) for Lion download from Apple App Store; or Leopard 10.5.x if using Lion on USB drive

  • Can I install iWork '09 and iLife 11 onto OSX 10.9.5

    Hello members,
My first post asks if I can install iWork '09 and iLife 11 onto my OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks?
I purchased a new Mac Book Pro 2.5 Ghz i7, and the iWork and iMovie apps appear to be trimmed down from the previous versions.
Is it possible to have the previous versions run side by side on the one Mac Book and are there any specific installs that need to be made?
I have the original discs of iWork and iLife.
    Thanks

I have both iWork 09 and iLife 11 installed on my Mavericks machine; iDVD works (it actually - sort of - still works in Yosemite with a few mishaps here and there). I am also still using iMovie 06 HD and iMovie 09 with Mavericks (iMovie 06 no longer works in Yosemite).
I am also still using Pages and Numbers from iWork 09 as I prefer them to the current app store versions.
Having said all of that, I do not know if the installer for one or both will still work in Mavericks as my copies have been installed since Lion - I've had one software (Final Cut Express) which will run in Mavericks, but has a PowerPC based Installer, so it can't be installed unless you manage to copy every associated/necessary file over. But, it is worth a try. If you want to try it, be aware that if you've installed the app store versions, then it'd be best to uninstall the new versions first or you'll probably get the "a newer version is already installed" message. You can reinstall them later.

  • Help -- installed iLife and iPhoto suddenly inaccessible!!

    help, help!
I installed the new iLife and immediately my iPhoto is bunk. when i open the application it says "loading photos" with a little circle going round and round. and round and round. for hours if i let it. nothing else happens. can't import, can't see my library, bonzos.
I tried REinstalling iLife, and that didn't work.
    any suggestions? what happenned?
    thank you,
    Olivia

    Olivia,
don't worry, you are not alone. there are a lot of people here that can help you.
I just want to be clear on a couple of points.
-What version of iPhoto did you have before and was the library working good before you installed iLife 5?
-You installed iLife 5 from the DVD
-you tried installing iLife again from the DVD
-Are all your iLife apps loose in the Applications folder?
-You would have known if you had Keyword Assistant because you have to download it and install it yourself.
-no need to register to make it work
-I will give you one thing to try first, it's always the first thing to do when encountering problems with an application. Drag the iPhoto Preference file to the desktop, or delete it.
    Preference file
Launch iPhoto and see if it loads.
    - You can also hold down the Option key when launching iPhoto and choose to open your library. Navigate to where your library is and choose it.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer and then choose it.
-If that doesn't work, you can launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys. This will force a rebuild (if you can even get it going I don't know) Choose the first 3 options first and do the rebuild (if you even get that far) If that doesn't work, choose all the options. If that doesn't work, check out this page and see if there is anything else you haven't tried.

  • Why are iLife and iWork apps not installed on my Mac?

Recently purchased a used iMac late 2013 model and met the seller at the Apple Store to factory reset the mac. Well that was done succesfully but upon my return home and unboxing the iMac once i logged on and went to look for iMovie app it was nowhere to be found. I looked for the other apps from iLife and iWork and they were nowhere either. I tried the search tool and nothing came up and when I went to search for them in the app store thinking I just had to re-download them they were not FREE for me to install.
Isn't iLife and iWorks included with every mac for free? CAn someone please help me get these if I am entitled to them for free or explain why I have to pay for them? TIA.
    -Freddy

They are free for the initial owner and if he accepts them at the app store, then they are permanently tied to his Apple ID and password. Their licenses are not transferable - subsequent owners must purchase the apps if they want them. Here are some excerpts from the licensing agreement:
    B. If you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled by Apple on Apple-branded hardware, in order to use
the Apple Software on more than one of the Apple-branded computers you own or control under the
Usage Rules, you must log in to the Mac App Store and associate the Apple Software with your Mac
App Store account. If you choose not to associate the preinstalled Apple Software with your Mac App
Store account, you are permitted to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single
Apple-branded computer at any one time. Please also note that by choosing to associate the
preinstalled Apple Software with your Mac App Store account, you will also associate any other Apple
software applications that also came preinstalled by Apple on your Apple-branded hardware at the time
of purchase (excluding OS X, Safari, and system applications and tools).
    and:
Apple Software obtained from the Mac App Store is not transferable. If you sell your Apple-branded
hardware to a third party, you must remove the Apple Software from the Apple-branded hardware before doing so.
If the initial owner does NOT associate the software with his app store account (in other words, he does not accept / install them), then he may transfer his license rights to a subsequent buyer.

  • Software update and iLife help not working in Admin account

For the last few weeks (maybe since iLife 11 was installed) software update and iLife help has quit working on the single administration account on my iMac. All works fine on the secondary accounts.
If I try to use software update it says everything is up to date, even though I know there are updates available that can be seen if checking from a different account on the machine. In iLife, if I try to access the help files it tells me I need to download them. I click to download and after a few seconds it takes me back to the front help page and I then go through the entire process again but the help download never happens. On secondary accounts the help files work no problem.
I've tried many of the tips for deleting helpfile plists, but nothing seems to work for me.
Can any kind person list for me everything I should look to delete or move in the account to get these things working again?
    It would be much appreciated!

Since the issue is specific to your original user account, you can proceed in two ways. One is to log into your new account, make a list of the preference files (plists) located in /username/Library/Preferences/, including any in the ByHost subfolder, log back into the original account, move everything on that other account's list from the original account's Preferences folder into a newly created folder on the Desktop, log out and back in, and see if the problem goes away. If so, you can copy the ones in the Desktop folder (one at time) back into /Preferences/, restart, and see if the problem returns. If so, you've identified the corrupt/conflicting one. Continue with all of them until isolating the bad ones. That'll save you the trouble of resetting preferences.
The second way is much more detailed and I'll not burden you with the steps unless the above doesn't fix the issue.
