Install ios5 on iphone; backup/sync/restore fail

I seem to have lost all my data, last backup was corrupted by space shortage?? Why tell me after backup??? Warning before would have been nice!
Anyone who had the same problem solved?

Update to 10.5.1. With the new verson the problem seems to be fixed.

On your iMac launch iTunes and at the top next to the Apple symbol click iTunes > Preferences > Devices and tell me what you see. You last sync should be there showing only a device name. If you have an older backup it will be there as well the difference is it will be the device name with a date and time stamp. Sync and backups are two different things and there is a chance iTunes made a backup the first time you hooked up your iPhone 5.

  • IOS 5.1.1 will not install on my Iphone 4S. It fails to verify download

IOS 5.1.1 will not install on my Iphone 4S. It fails to verfiy the download and fails to install.

After many attempts to download through iTunes, I tried the direct method via Wi-Fi and it worked!  First, reset the iPhone (hold the power and Home buttoms until the screen goes black, then keep holding until the Apple logo appears).  Second, dismiss all other applications  (hit Home twice, then press and hold any icon at the bottom of the screen until they blink and display red "-" signs; then hold each "-" sign until the app icon vanishes).  Then go to Settings -> General -> Software Update. It took me about 5-6 minutes via Wi-Fi.
For what it's worth, I'm using an iPhone 3GS and had 5.1 installed prior to the 5.1.1 update.  My iTunes is on a Mac G4 running OS 10.5.8.  I don't know why the iTunes method didn't work, but even if it had worked, it would have taken half an hour or more to download the file.

  • IPhone 5 firmware restore failed (unknown error 1)

  • Just lost most user-installed apps with iPhone 4 sync

I just plugged in my wife's iPhone 4 (iOS 6, Mac OS 10.7.4, iTunes 10 -- not 11 yet!), received a message I've seen before about finding items on the iPhone that weren't on iTunes and did I want to transfer them, and thinking that they were tunes I had deleted on iTunes recently, said no I didn't want to transfer them back to iTunes. (This has happened before and I had to re-delete the stuff I'd deleted from iTunes previously.)
Then the phone synced, and lo and behold, I think every single user-installed app on her phone has disappeared. I can't find any record of them on the Apps tab in iTunes, they're just gone!
After some research that yielded no help, I decided to restore her phone from an earlier backup, but the only backup that was available was not dated, and when I restored the phone to that backup, it was in the same state as before -- no user-installed apps!
Doesn't iTunes store multiple backups from which you can restore your iPhone? Shouldn't I be able to restore her iPhone from say, yesterday's backup and get back all those apps?
She wants my head, mates, and I don't even know *** happened?
Please advise, if you have any...
    With thanks,
    Dustin

You should be able to go to the App Store on her iPhone, click "Updates" in the lower right, then "Purchased" on top, and see all her purchased apps there.  You can restore them from there.

  • IPhone Backup not restoring correctly

Before I updated to iOS 7 I've created a backup in iTunes and restored my iPhone 4 to iOS 7 (because I had not enough space for an Over-the-Air Update)
after this I restored with an iTunes Backup after few hours it stops, all Photos were synchronized but 5 Apps and 70% of my Music Library weren't synchronized
If I unplug my iPhone and plug it again it will try to continue the Backup Synchronization but will fail at the same point
on my iPhone I cannot download Apps or Updates
I've already tried to restore it again
In the iTunes Log Files I've found in the "MDCrashReportTool.exe begins" bracket something that is maybe interesting:

Your backup is obviously corrupted or your internet connection is bad. Regardless, something is definitely wrong...your phone is not going to restore. Eject your phone, then:
See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, select setup as "new".

  • Iphone Backup for restore missing

I backed up my Iphone a couple of days ago before deleteing al my photos.  When I went to restore to get them back my phone was automatically backed up by itunes.  I went into the restore area and it only shows the backup I did today with 2 that were done last year.  Can anyone help me?

It's sound like you itunes has automatic sync on...if so when your device sync earlier it replaced the backup you orginal made with a new one...the first thing I would do if turn it off
    Try this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Even though this says iPod it works across the board for all devices....Honestly the next best thing for you to do what be reset the phone (erase all content and settings) and try restoring from an icloud back if you have one...if you do have icloud backs you want to pick one that was made before the sync happened...if you don't have a backup of the information the new device had you before either itunes or icloud you won't be able to get it back http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US

  • How can I remove the encryption from the iPhone backup without restore

I have not lost any data yet, I recovered it from icloud, but I cannot remove the encryption check and restore from I cloud at the same time, if I restore then the encryption returns...
please don't ask me why I forgot the password i did the setup 3 years back and now i have no idea what I put ,,, its surely none of the passwords I usually use, and I have been trying to figure it out for two weeks now averaging 20 passes a day,,, you get my frustration....
I guess apple should provide an option to remove the encryption requirement for future backups with a simple Apple ID / Apple pass and for god sake delete all the encrypted backups for all I care, but don't keep us trying for another 3 years ... pleeeeeaaase

I have just taken a look at the general posts here and I do understand that you are a top contributer and the noticeable part is that most of the questions are really very basic...
please understand that I have done my research and have done lots of trials including a bruit force run of 3 days to try and get this overwith, obviously posting this question here means that i have failed, and that I'm looking for a more positive response from the apple community ( rather than the usual "Give Up" statement ...)
thanks wjosten for your understanding ...

  • Can't activate after installing iOS5 on iphone 4..PLEASE HELP!

Went to update my iPhone 4 on Thursday, 14th. This is a phone that I have been using without any problems since the release of the iPhone 4. At this point I am using my PC (I have also tried on my Mac), so I download the new iTunes 10.2 or whatever the latest one is, then I download the iOS5 for my phone, then update.  Well, it gave me an error half way through and said that I needed to restore.  That fine cause I just backed eveything up, so I hit restore and everything seems fine until it trys to activate. Here's what come on the iPhone screen:
    Welcome Screen
    Select a language - english
    Country or region - US
Location Services - Enable Location Services
    Wifi Networks
Activation your iphone (it may take up to 3 minutes to activate your iPhone)
Activation Error - Activation request could not be completed.  If problems persists, please contact customer care.
In iTunes it has a similiar error that says: "We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time.  Please try again later, or contact customer care."
I called Apple that night and talked to someone for about 2 hours and tried everything he knew to try and fix the error with no resolution in the end.  He ended up transfering me to his supervisor and I talked to him for about 30 minutes until he said he would have to talk to someone else the following day and call me back.  He did call me back the next day, but only to tell me that they were already working on it and it should be resolved by Saturday night. He told me to keep restoring it every 2-3 hours and eventually it will finish activating.
Well needless to say, it still still wasn't working by Sunday, so I called them back and talked to another supervisor and he said there was nothing he could do and that I just have to keep trying because they are already working on it.  That guy was kinda rude so I just decided I would call back Monday and get someone else.
Well, on Monday I called AGAIN, and get a supervisor who said he was aware of the problem, but that it should have been fixed the middle of the previous week.  He said he would e-mail the person who was working with the problem and see what else I should do.  He also said he would be calling me back today (now Tuesday, 18th) after I get off work and tell me what that guy says.
I have tried all these things on both my PC and Mac: restarting the computer, restarting itunes, restarting the iPhone, restoring the phone (like 100 times), reauthorizing the computer, restarting my internet (but it works fine for everything else), taking the SIM card in and out, connecting my phone to the internet and try activating without the computer, and calling AT&T (not a problem on their side).
I don't have an apple store anywhere close or I would just go there.  I am getting so tired of dealing with this crap, and not having a phone (this is day 5 with a brick for a phone).  I am just wondering if ANYONE can help me at all!! I am desperate and will try anything, PLEASE HELP ME!!!

has anyone solve this problem? i upgraded my iphone 4 to 5.1.1 and now i can see only ""We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time.  Please try again later, or contact customer care."
i tried mani sim card, laptops, wifi. but for 7 days the problem is still exist....
    Please help me!!!

  • IPhone backup from restore -- only restored apps

I did a backup last night .. and i tried to restore from backup .. all the apps were restored but wallpaper, pictures, text, ringtones, and everything else was wiped out... any clue as to what is going on ?

There may be a problem with the backup, which stores a significant amount of data.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
iTunes content is not included with the backup - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, ringtones, or 3rd party apps. All iTunes content on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer. The same for all photos transferred from your computer.

  • I can't install iOS5 because the backup suddenly interrupts when I'm transferring my apps.

The backup starts normally, synchronizes the iPhone and then it tries to transfer an app (the name is Lucky Cat), it reaches immediately 1/4 of the loading bar, remains still for two second and then disappears, simply returns the apple without reaching the end of the loading bar. If I try to update it, it tells me that my purchases have not been transferred. The backup results done anyway, and in my app list on the Mac there's Lucky Cat.
There has been a period when I used another email to buy apps, because I've deleted my first email. I've already tried to log in on the iTunes store with both the emails, and it continues to behave like that.
What can I do? Can I just update it without the risk of losing anything?

Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
Now, uninstall Bonjour from Control Panel.

  • Problem (-1) when restoring from backup after installing iOS5!

Made a backup before installing iOS5, now I can't restore it. I have repeated the "continue restore" probably 25-30 times, I have unplugged, restarted and rebooted until my face turned blue, I have tried everything I could find on online communities, and everything has failed so far. The data I had on the phone (contacts are on my computer, same with music and mail) is to 90% expendable, but it's that last 10% that I absolutely, desperately need! Silly me, I thought making a backup actually let you keep the backupped stuff...
APPLE, SOMEONE, please help, because I am at my wits end! It's baffling how a reliable company like Apple can release something like this, an update that somehow wipes out everything you have on your phone. I am begging you, give me my phone back!
"Couldn't restore because an error occurred." This is straight up Windows crap, it's things like this that made me switch to Apple seven years ago, for chrissakes!

    Getting the same problem here..
“The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).”
I have not jailbroken the iPhone, i only have dozen or so apps, synced it every other day. tried the DUF mode before connecting it to the pc.
also, i tried downgrading back and restoring with the following ipsw packages: IOS 4.3.2, 4.3.4, 4.3.5 and 5.
different error code appears with each ipsw. that didn't work either!
in the last attampt it got through the whole progress bar (so it might now be a problem with the firmware), but then it err and gave me the same massage.
I thought those things only happens to Blackberry

  • ITunes and iPhone 4 sync issues with Windows 7 64 bit

I am getting several errors with sync'ing iTunes to my iPhone on windows7 64bit. I reinstalled iTunes, I did a repair on iTunes, even tried a RESTORE on iPhone, but it gives me so many errors one after another after another.
    1. Some of the items were NOT copied to iPhone "iPhone" because one ore more errors occured.
    2. Attempting to copy to the disk "iPhone" failed. An internal device error occured.
    3. The iPhone "iPhone" can NOT be synced. An unknown error occured (0xE8004006).
    4. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. The required file can not be found.
    5. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. A duplicate filename was specified.
    6. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. An internal device error occured.
These errors keep appearing one after the other.
I have fully uninstalled iTunes and ALL Apple programs from my PC, rebooted, disabled antivirus/firewall software, etc.
I have tried changing time zones.
I have created a new user account on same laptop and still have same issues with iTunes.
Restore fails with error "Unable to read file or file is corrupt".
Yet iTunes works fine on a 32bit operating system of Windows 7.
The problem is that I upgraded my laptop and the new laptop is Win7 64bit. I have ALL the newest drivers, and I checked to ensure it was not a BIOS or CHIPSET driver causing issues. All windows updates are up to date and current.
I have been trying for over a week with every piece of trouble shooting I can find to make this work.
Any help or further information would be VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED.
    Thanks in Advance

I too am having the exact same issues on the same laptop! I spent an hour last night with "supervisor" in tech support who didn't solve my problem but did close the ticket (210757099 for any Apple people that might read this). Thanks a lot Ben!
I have seven ipod/iphone/ipad devices so I am very familiar with how to sync. In the last few weeks, version 10.2 of iTunes (I'm up to 10.2.1.1) has gotten less and less reliable in successfully sync'ing to the devices. It started out with my 3GS, but my iPhone 4 was fine. Then I got an iPad2 and now NOTHING will sync properly. Every time I plug one in (or press the sync button) it wants to do a restore from the backup made the last time it sync'd. It does that, reboots the device and sync's.
    I've gotten a ton of errors, here's a sample.
iBooks couldn't be installed on my iPhone unknown error 0xE800000C
Textie couldn't be installed on my iPhone, unknown error 0xE8000013
"failed required file not found" - This is one of my favorite error messages. It demonstrates how Apple is becoming like Microsoft. It is 100% accurate and totally useless. It would be helpful if it told me the NAME of the file that was not found...
    unknown error 0xE8004006
"duplicate file found" - Again, in true Microsoft form, it didn't tell me the NAME of the file that was duplicated.
I tried everything discussed in the following thread but it did not work.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2401822
Stopping the enhanced USB controller didn't work. Mine is the Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller (version 9.1.1.1020).
A few days ago I got hundreds of errors in a sync. When it completed, a dialogbox came up asking if I wanted to send this crash report to Apple, I said yes. So, crash reports are now automatically being sent. You can see evidence of this in the %appdata%\Apple Computer\Logs directory.
This section of the log looked interesting because it says it couldn't connect to USB mux port 32498
