Install iTunes 9.0.2.25 hangs

I am trying to install iTunes 9.0.2.25 after disabling Norton Internet Security. The iTunesSetup was downloaded onto my desktop (have done this several times, using different computers onto an external hard drive so I don’t suspect a corrupted download). Have also tried downloading to my downloads folder with same results.
It hangs while installing at this status point "Status: Publishing product information"
Error Message: “An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32,publickeyToken="1fc8b3 b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x8007054F.”
Operating System: Microsoft Vista Home Premium (last updated on 25December)
Have plenty of free RAM (approximately 1GB out of 2GB) and plenty of hard disk space.
I removed previous (corrupted version due to missing files) and tried a clean install and got the same message. I tried the installation on several User accounts on this machine with same dismal results.
Any suggestions????

Since the previous posting I tried Uninstalling iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, and Apple Mobile Device Support (ie most Apple applications on my computer). I did not find "Apple Application Support" to uninstall. I kept Bonjour (which was installed 8months ago so I assumed it wasn't the problem). I also deleted all iTunes folders in the "Program Files" folder and did not find an "Apple Application Support" folder to delete.
I emptied the recycle bin, restarted the PC, disconnected from the internet, disabled "Norton Internet Security". I got the same error message when I reinstalled!!!
Then the installer does a rollback. Eventually QuickTime installs, then iTunes installs "successfully". When I click "Finish" I get the following error: "Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run iTunesHelper. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again". When I try to launch QuickTime I get the following message: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail."
So I tried installing AppleApplicationSupport.msi
1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose "Open with WinRAR".
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose "Repair".
Unfortunately Apple Application Support shows up in the "Programs and Features" list for uninstalling, Change or Repair, but eventually the install hangs again at the original status point: "Status: Publishing product information" and thens attempts to roll back the install (removing "Apple Application Support" from the "Programs and Features" list.
Is there another way to get a clean install of "AppleApplicationSupport.msi"?

  • After installing iTunes 11.0.4 sync  hangs

I have re-installed iTunes 11.0.4 cleanly (removed all Apple software from Windows 7 system and cold booted). Since the original install of 11.0.4 I have not been able to synch my iPad 2. iTunes hangs just after it starts the second step, Backup iPad. I have tried killing the Apple Mobile backup exe in Task Manager, that did not help. I have observed the following: first start playing a playlist; then try synching the iPad; the UI for iTunes no longer responds, but "The Band played on". [I assume the music player has spawned a separate thread that does not block the UI].  I have also cold booted the iPad, with the same result. One other experiment, last night I clicked on the button to do a manual backup and that ran to completion, go figure.

OK I think I fixed this problem, but it makes no sense. The usual synch mechanism was still failing, for giggles I tried selcting the Option "Sync with this iPad over Wi-Fi". This is silly and unreasonable because my desktop only has a wired LAN connection and no Wi-Fi. That of course did not work, but once I unselected the option and plugged the iPad back into the USB port, I was able to sync. Go figure. I will try additional sync in a few day and with the iPhone before declaring victory.

  • Trying to install iTunes 10.5 but wont install and it just seems to hang for several hours and do nothing.  Need help cos otherwise I cant update to iOS5 on my Iphone 4.  Thx

I have tried many times today to install iTunes 10.5 in order to update to iOS5 on my Iphone 4 however it just wont work.  I have a MacBook Pro and when I use the software update it says that I have already downloaded iTunes 10.5 but when I go to install it and it says it is writing the files and the bluw bar is working its way across the page and then becomes very very slow and and at the last millimetre it seems to just hang there and do nothing.  I even left if like this for several hours and nothing progressed.  I have since tried to update via the iTunes program and the same problem happens.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rick,
by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.
    Success,
    Peter

  • Installed ITunes 8 - entire music library lost - hangs if I try to add fold

I just installed iTunes 8 after having been prompted to do so.
When I first opened it the app started to render my album covers, and then stopped.
I was curious about the genius feature, so I enabled that, and it said it was active, but then nothing showed in my music library at all -- no covers, not a single track.
I tried re-adding the folder where I store my music, I get a processing message, but then it just hangs.
I ended the task, tried adding a single song -- that song added successfully, so I added one more -- also OK, and they could play. So I tried adding the whole folder again - hangs.
    End task again.
Re-open - the songs I added manually aren't there anymore. Every time I add a song, it shows temporarily, then when I exit and go back in the whole list is erased again.
At the file system level the folder where it stores all the info about music is COMPLETELY EMPTY: \\server\users\myusername\my documents\my music\itunes\itunes music\
That folder used to have hundreds of folders and files? What the heck happened? Where are my files?
Is this a bug or just some weird issue on the x64 version of Vista that happens when you have my documents folder re-direction turned on? This wasn't a problem with v7.x

Copying the old iTunes Library (from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder) didn't work for me. iTunes went through its typical "Updating iTunes Library" routine the next time I launched, and any attempt to add a folder of files to my library still returns Error 13014.

  • Installing iTunes hangs on "creating shortcuts" - help!

    Hi...
When I try to install iTunes on my IBM Thinkpad, it installation hangs on "creating shortcuts". I can see that MSIExec.exe is running at 99% when this happens. I have to hit cancel on the installation and the software does not complete the install.
I have tried numerous versions of the iTunes software, I have deinstalled my antivirus software, and I can install other software without any problems, so I know that the install shield works OK. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • After I install itunes my windows 7 - 64 bit machine will not boot and I have to use Restore  to boot with a date before I installed itunes

After I install itunes on my windows 7 - 64 bit machine it will not reboot and I need to restore to a date before itunes was install.  How do I fix this?

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

  • Missing CD/DVD drive after installing iTunes w/ Windows Vista

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 laptop. The problem I am having is when I install iTunes my CD/DVD drive disappears. The drive is listed in the device mananger but it is corrupt ( yellow triangle). I can restore the drive by going back to system restore before iTunes was installed. It was sugested by Toshiba that I wait for the Windows Vista/ iPod fix. It has been sometime and there has been no word of a fix. I just bought my laptop in march and my iPod last month and I can not use it unless I load all of music one time and do a systems restore and loose it. It has become very fustrating as all the hot fixes do not apply to Vista but XP. I really need some support from someone. Microsoft charges 95 bucks a hour ( I think) and Toshiba says it is a Apple/Windows problem.

  • Cannot Install iTunes 9 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit

    Okay, here's the situation:
I was an early adopter of Vista, in its 32-bit form. Ran fine, lasted a long time. Needed more memory, so installed Vista 64-bit a few months back as part of an upgrade to a larger boot disc.
Initially, the version (whatever it was) of iTunes installed and worked okay, but after an upgrade of Windows and iTunes (done at the same time) killed the whole thing. It installed correctly, but when I ran iTunes, it would hang.
I know about relatively short hangs while trying to connect to the iTunes store, as well as the potentially hours-long hang during the 'gapless playback' process, but these hangs were for more than 12 hours in some cases, and required that I manually end the program.
About a week ago, I decided to go back to XP Professional because several updates had created an unusable environment for iTunes, even with deleting everything Apple and starting over multiple times.
With a clean Windows XP Professional 64-bit install, I thought I might have a chance. Turns out, I was wrong.
I downloaded the latest iTunes 64-bit package, only to be told this is for Windows Vista 64-bit only. Fine. I downloaded the latest iTunes 32-bit package and was greeted with a message that suggested I download the 64-bit version. Are we sure Microsoft didn't buy Apple somewhere along the line? This is not the sort of nonsense I have seen in about 15 years experience with Apple products.
Next I looked for any tricks or tips that might help me do what I wanted. I learned Orca is more than a Sea World attraction, and many other new things. At the end of the day, I cannot find any way to successfully install iTunes 32-bit or 64-bit into Windows XP Professional 64-bit.
Is there anyone that has successfully installed the latest iTunes (32- or 64-bit versions) into XP Pro 64-bit without hacking, cracking or smacking their system? Anyone? If so, I would love to hear how it's done.
It's painfully obvious that Apple never tested this O/S or they might have fixed the problem before releasing iTunes 9.
Although my iPhone contract ended about two months ago, I'm not rushing out to get a new phone until this problem is resolved. Currently it is essentially a paperweight as I have no access to some application updates that will only complete when it is tethered.

Follow the directions here.  But the problem is that the I-tunes installer calls for the wrong file name so… if you rename the file named “AppleMobileDevice64.msi” to “AppleMobileDevice.msi” it should install.  When it says “iPod service failed to start…”  run this patch then click “retry” it’ll work fine.  Merry Christmas from Lokie!
P.S. Please repost the patch thanks

When downloading itunes 10 in windows xp, I get the following error "There is a problem with this Windoes Installer package. Aprogram run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." - any ideas on how to proceed?

using MSICUU2.exe didn't help me.  But,  the new replacement app did:
      http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
I fixed my problem like this:
    Here's the deal -
    1.  can you install itunes via the APPLE SOFTWARE updater?
I couldn't  so I downloaded ITUNES and tried to install it that way.   Hence  I got the same error hang as you.  Nothing worked,  (Multiple attempts at uninstall reinstall,  stopping of Services,  Reg cleaners  etc..)
    2.  If answer is NO to #1 you must fixe the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE Program.
OK  so I couldn't find a Download for this.   But:  if you have WINRAR,  open the ITUNES.EXE and extract the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI file.  Execute the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI separately.   And you will not be able to install it and have a similar issue as per your Itunes install.   This of course leads you to believe that the Itunes.exe  install is also installing all of these components including the applesoftwareupdate silently.   It must BOMB at that portion of the install and you are done.
    3.  Your goal now is to get the applesoftwareupdate installed.   How do you do this.  Well -  here is what I did.
      a.  downloaded and RUN a PC  Installer FIX it tool from Microsoft.  This is a replacement for the older MSI fixer they used to use.
      http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    b. It will list programs to attempt to fix.
      choose  AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
    c. Once it is done,  then reinstall apple program updater using
    AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
Finally it should install since the Microsoft tool appraently fixed corrupted installation files in your registry for this application.
(Please note:  that I also disabled any apple related services such as BONJOUR or IPOD DEvice RUN:  services.msc to get there -  although this man not be necesarry.)
Hence Launch this APPLE UPDATE SOFTWARE (Click the ICON in your Start menu)  it should list ITUNES
select ITUNES from here and it will update.
KEY HERE is to ONLY UPDATE APPLE Stuff via the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE program.  If that program is not working fix it.  Then Bingo.
I am sorry to see folks having this problem for weeks.
APPLE,   Spread the word.  PC's can get corruption in the registry on your product should the update be stopped or computer shut off during an update.  etc...   Please improve your software updater program to check for invalid registry upon launching the app.  This will prevent people thinking it is an APPLE issue.  It appears to be a problem on your PC's registry settings for the APPLE Software update.

  • Installed iTunes 7.1.1 and now won't play any CD/DVD

    thank you kindly.
i find it a bit difficult to track down info for the ASUS motherboards at ASUSTek. so perhaps try using their ASUS Navigation utility to determine if there are any BIOS or chipset driver upgrades available for that model. here's a link through to their download site for the utility:
    ASUS Navigation Wizard
if you still get the bad behavior from CD/DVD drives after doing any updates indicated at Asus, let's check on your other componentry too.
i had a look at Samsung, and there's a newer TS07 firmware available for your SH-M522C.

  • ITunes Error 7 (Windows error 127) after installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows

After installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows (latest build), I get an error pop-up saying:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes
    Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I've gone thru the uninstall, reboot and reinstall process three or four times now. Still nothing.
Furthermore, after clicking okay to the error, it continues to pop up on it's own every 45 seconds or so.
There was one other error I came across after trying to launch iTunes after installation.
    See both error messages here:

Brilliant. Thanks a lot. I've wasted a couple of hours on this nasty bug, & trying all the other suggestions across various threads again and again.
I now find I had the same registry entry hanging on, despite uninstalling & wiping everything again and again. Having now deleted this key, (I don't even have an iPod), & iTunes 11.1.14 now opens at long last.
But WHY is this bug not fixed? Enough people are suffering with this across the forum. WHERE is Apple support on this?
It should have been added to their page at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
    by now, why hasn't it???
    It's not good enough!

AHA! This entry for iPodService.exe still exhisted.  So I had no folders on the PC, no installs on the PC and no services running.... BUT this was still in the Registry.
Step 5 - Delete only the Registry entry above.  NO REBOOT
    Step 6 - Reinstall iTunes64.exe
