Install KDEMOD, cant find a battery monitor applet

Hi there,
I'm new to Arch... I've been an Ubuntu user for about two years now. I was attracted to Arch one very specific thing:
Rolling-Release... It just sucks to be stuck with the same old apps when everyone else (including the windows crowd) has cutting-edge features. So this just rocks in my book. I read that stability in Arch is good enough despite being extremely up-to-date so great.
While doing my research I of course tried gentoo... Which I dislike so much after being left without a computer for 2 days straight while emerge downloaded, compiled and installed gnome. I have a slow connection (200mbps)... Maybe if downloads where asyncronous to compiling it would be slightly better.
I'm also in love of apt-get. That's way I wouldn't give any distro a chance if they didn't offer a GREAT package manager. Pacman surpasses my expectations, I might have found a new love lol. It's lots faster than apt-get for installing programs, and so far I haven't got dependency errors.
Now KISS just rocks... for some things. I enjoyed a lot working on my .conf files. I had done a bit of it on ubuntu but there it is pretty much authomatized. As I said, I like it because it gives you more control and forces you to gain some knowledge of the system. And KDEMOD is awesome beacause of it, no bloat alright!
BUT: Where's my frigging Battery Monitor???!!! I live in fear my battery will die on me anytime... I usually consult it via /proc, but still, that isn't good enough. I think there should be a kdemod-utils-laptop or something to provide this kind of things... Any suggestions as what to do???

darn it, my first post should've been something better lol
Well the package in kdemod is called:
kdemod-kdeutils-klaptopdaemon
It works now

p.s i have no experience in apple imac's at all never used before, but im kinda windows nerd so computers i understand but this imac make my insane, cant seem to find any solutions anywhere on the WWW....

Your HD may be crashed, so you probably should use the oringinal install discs to run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode. If error codes appear this confirms a hardware failure. In addition you cannnot repair the HD using Disk Utility from the startup disk, you have to use the origninal Install discs that shipped with the computer or the most up-to-date version of OS X on a disc that you have.

  • IPhoto has dissappeared off my laptop. Says it is installed, but cant find it. All photos gone

iPhoto has dissappeared off my laptop. Says it is installed, but cant find it. All photos gone

Do a Spotlight for "iPhoto.app" and see what yo get. If that fails download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "iPhoto.app" in the file name.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If the application is hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

I have PSASE and it works fine on my machine. Installer and Uninstaller both work fine and I haven't noticed the same issue as you are seeing. Logging a bug with Adobe may help. You can use the following link:

  • Dbca failure (9i install, Solaris64):cant find oratab, and ORA-27102 out of memory

Trying to install 9i Enterprise Edition on Solaris 9 (64 bit), get two messages during running Database Configuration Assistant:
    "/var/opt/oracle/oratab file not found"
    followed later by
    "ORA-27102 out of memory"
    1. I searched the entire system (all drives, directories) but no such file oratab.
    2. ?
    What to do?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Yes, the missing oratab problem was solved by running root.sh
Had been missed on first install attempt.
    Thanks for your help!
    Hi,
i think is some problem with installation coz oratab is a file created by root.sh and updated by the Database Configuration Assistant when creating
a database.so you required oratab in /var/opt/oracle in solaris as database configure assistance lookup there for oratab.
either copy this file from somewhere and try or try to reinstall.
    reply me the following question:
1)which user and group you use to install oracle
    2)check is root.sh avilable in your $ORACLE_HOME or/and in $ORACLE_HOME/install/util.

  • Battery Monitor

Hi everybody, I'm using Arch in a brand new laptop with a Mobile Intel 965PM/GM Express Chipset and I cant get the battery monitor to work.
In my KDE Control Center, when I try to turn this on, this message is shown:
Your computer seems to have a partial ACPI installation. ACPI was probably enabled, but some of the sub-options were not - you need to enable at least 'AC Adaptor' and 'Control Method Battery' and then rebuild your kernel.
I've loaded battery, ac, thermal, button and processor, but still not working
Do I really need to recompile the kernel? Is there any solution to this?
    Thanx a lot in advance.

OK, this is how I compile kernels (sorry, too lazy to type it all out again, so I'll just paste what I've posted before in another thread):
    1) Update abs ("sudo abs" or run "abs" as root)
    2) Copy the kernel26 directory from /var/abs/kernels to my home dir ("~/Sources" actually)
    3) I use the script from this thread (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=34815).  Make sure you configure it appropriately, choose appendname etc., and make it executable.  Then just run it from the directory where you copied your kernel to (in my case ~/Sources).  It should make a new directory called kernel26-"appendname".  Enter that directory.
    4) If you want to add custom patches you'll have to edit PKGBUILD file manually, otherwise just run makepkg.  The script changes the PKGBUILD so that you'll enter kernel configuration menu before compiling starts.  Make your changes and make sure you save your configuration when choosing exit.
    5) While the kernel compiles you can edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst to add entries for your new kernel.  The relevant filenames will be vmlinuz26-"appendname", kernel26-"appendname", and kernel26-"appendname"-fallback.
    6) run sudo pacman -A kernel_package_name
That would get you a custom compiled and custimized kernel from current... You will need to do a bit more, since your goal will be to build a different version.
It would be probably good to read what the wiki says about ABS and makepkg, so you get the sense of how it all works, I would probably also check out the wiki on how to downgrade packages...  PKGBUILD is essentially a set of instructions for building from source, so it will take care of everything from downloading sources to making a package that can be later installed with pacman.  You would have to edit the PKGBUILD created by the script in the above example to tell the script which version of sources to use and such, and probably also fix things like md5sums, versions of patches, or even get rid of some patches if they are not important for you.  It takes a while to figure all the details out, but once you learn the procedure it's all very easy.
You can also look up the differences between different kernel PKGBUILDs using the CVS part of the website.  Here is a link to the differences between the current and the last 2.6.21 kernel PKGBUILD: http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcv … f_format=h

    Hello,

LibInventory(3.4.4):Consistency check failed for base package LibCommon
There is LibCommon3.2.1 and LibInventory3.4.1 currently installed.

    thx for hints, Steffen

for LMS 4.1 there is  LibCommon.RME51.v3-2-6.zip available perhaps this is what you need.
    Release Date: 06 Feb 2012
    Release: LibCommon(3.2.6)
in any case, you have the option to list the dependent packages with the cli tool: PSUCli, see the documentation for details:
NMSROOT\bin\PSUCli.bat -p product -pkgVersion -src dir {-all |PackageNames} (On Windows)
NMSROOT/bin/PSUCli.sh -p product -pkgVersion -src dir {-all |PackageNames} (On Solaris)

If you are using a Mac, simply hit Command-Spacebar to bring up Spotlight Search.  Begin typing the name of the application and when you see what you are looking for, press enter.  You should get a hit by the second or third letter you type.  Great way to launch apps on computers that you are not familiar with.
Windows 7 and 8 should have something similar.  I think you simply press the Windows key and begin typing.  Press enter when you see a match.
Both Mac and Windows search tools can be customized to search for applications, files, emails and so forth.  For Windows, look for Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.  For Mac, go to Preferences Spotlight.  Turn off items you know you won't need to speed up searches.
