Install ldap server problems

ok, maybe here its the right place to post my question:
i am trying to install sun one directory server, and othe ldaps as well, on my windows xp home edition notebook that uses a dsl connection, with no domain name, and i am having trouble doing so.
i installed the same server (and other ldaps) on my windows 2000 with no problem, but this 2000 machine is on a domain network.
maybe the domain is what is required. i am not sure though. i am new on ldap, please help.

Typically, installing an ldap server will require a fully-qualified domain name and a static IP address.
You are probably using DHCP to obtain an IP address since you mention that you are at home and on DSL.
You should refer to the installation guide for Directory Server. Docs can be found at docs.sun.com, search on the product name, titles only and you should be able to find the right one for the version you are using.
If you are mainly doing this to evaluate tools and servers, you might want to try the new version of Sun Java Studio Enterprise (6 2004Q1), which bundles the directory server (and other useful Sun Java servers). This product will be released at the end of this month.
Watch this web site for an announcement soon (~ 3-29-04) http://wwws.sun.com/software/product_categories/application_development.html
The full product name is Sun Java Studio Enterprise 6 2004Q1 (although Windows XP Home edition is not
a supported platform). Typically, you would probably find Win XP Pro to have more of the networking features necessary for installing and using servers.

  • After Installing Application Server - Problem connecting to my Databases

    I have 10g installed on my Windows server, and have no problems connecting to my database(s). After I install Application Server 10g, I am no longer able to connect to any of them, as if the TNSNAMES.ORA file is no longer configured correctly. I am training myself on these applications. Anyone have any suggestions what is happening behind the scenes?
    Thank you,
    Daniel Nadler

    After deploying a jsf application via the web interface of the application server enterprise manager I tried to connect to the 10g database - and it failed with the same error as yesterday?
    I really don't unterstand what is going on. I would really appreciate it if someone could point me out where to start digging for a solution / unterstanding of the problem.
    Quoting this thread (installing db on same server as AS): 10gAS and Database Server on the same machine
    >
    Yes, you can do this. Here are some guidelines:
    (1) Make sure your system requirements are sufficient to handle the application server and the database. The recommendation is to add the AS system requirements and the DB system requirements together.
    (2) Install each product into its own Oracle home. For example:
    - Oracle Home 1: AS Mid-tier
    - Oracle Home 2: AS Infrastructure (including Metadata Repository)
    - Oracle Home 3: Database
    (3) If your AS installation includes a Metadata Repository, make sure that the
    Metadata Repository and the database use a different SID and global db name.
    (4) It is possible that the Metadata Repository and the database can share
    port 1521. Review this information before you start your AS installation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/win.1012/install.1012/install/reqs.htm#CIHEBFDG
    The installation guide under (4) tells me that I don't have to worry since I use a new listener version.
    To complete the confusion: on my virtual test machine oracle 10g and oracle AS 10g work fine side by side?? Perhaps because I did a Standard Edition install of the database (on the real machine I used Enterprise Edition)? Is there a way to figure out what kind of install I did?
    Lots of questions, any help or links are really appreciated! Thanks in advance!
    ------------------ EDIT -------------------
    Whoops, I might had a problem with a not correctly shut down database (just shutted windows down without killing the instance - didn't know this wasn't ok). Still evaluating the issue. But to say the least, it seems the application server has nothing to do with my problem :)

    How to configure LDAP server...

    You'll have more luck in the forum for LDAP: Oracle Unified Directory (OUD) & Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition/Sun DSEE
    I suggest that you also include more information in your posts about what you've already tried to do and why it doesn't seem to be working. Simply asking "how to configure LDAP" isn't going to elicit many responses....You need to show you've actually attempted it yourself.
    Also, you'll always want to include the versions of the software you're using.

    You most likely skipped the step of starting the installed server prior to trying to access admin URL. Please check this document:

    You can start the Administration Server in either of the following ways:

    Your error indicates that your step 3 was not the correct thing to do.
    local.ldaphost
    is for the "configuration" ldap server. If you've not replicated/duplicated the o=NetscapeRoot tree from your originally installed LDAP server, then the server is rightly complaining that it can't get its' config information from the failed over ldap server.

  • The LDAP server is unavailable after installing KB2868725

    After installing the KB2868725 Windows Update, a strange LDAPs connection problem occur.
    Context : we have a C# web site (.NET 4.0) that perform an LDAPs Bind operation over LDAPs. The web server is not on the same domain (bind operations are perform again multiple LDAPs Server), and the code work like a charm more than a year.
    So after installing the KB2868725 Windows Update we get a “System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.LdapException: The LDAP server is unavailable.” exception from the same application. When we uninstall the update, the error stop.
    The problem is present ONLY over a SECURE connection.
    We have multiple web server in production and every server where the KB2868725 Windows Update is not installed are working perfectly.
    We build a test application with this simple code, work fine on “non-KB2868725 updated server”:
    void BindLDAP()
    LdapDirectoryIdentifier ldi = new LdapDirectoryIdentifier("example.com", 636, true, false);
    LdapConnection ldapCnn = new LdapConnection(ldi, new NetworkCredential("myUsername", "myPassword"), AuthType.Basic);
    ldapCnn.SessionOptions.VerifyServerCertificate = new VerifyServerCertificateCallback(Validate);
    ldapCnn.Bind();
    private static bool Validate(LdapConnection connection, X509Certificate certificate) { return true; }
    Stack trace:
    System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.LdapException: The LDAP server is unavailable.

    at System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.LdapConnection.BindHelper(NetworkCredential newCredential, Boolean needSetCredential)
    Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    We tried to change every connections settings, change .NET version (2.0, 3.5 and 4.0), build the test application directly on the server and nothing work.
    If we use others LDAP tool (like http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963907.aspx) the problem also occur : “The server is not operational.”
    Moreover, if we installed these updates the problem also occur: KB2574819, KB2830477, KB2871997, KB2592687.
    We can’t install any Windows Updates, that’s a problem. We would like to find a solution, please help us ;-)

    Hi,
    The server is configure to get the Windows Update from a WSUS server. Those updates are downloaded from Microsoft.
    I follow these steps:
    1. Uninstall Windows Update : KB2574819, KB2830477 (KB2857650) and KB2913751;
    2. Perform a LDAP connection test : work perfectly;
    3. Install Update KB2574819;
    4. Perform a LDAP connection test : not working (The LDAP server is unavailable.);
    5. Install Update KB2830477 (KB2857650 is include in KB2830477 update);
    6. Perform a LDAP connection test : not working (The LDAP server is unavailable.);
    7. Install Update KB2913751;
    8. Perform a LDAP connection test : not working (The LDAP server is unavailable.);
    The problem here is we can’t install KB2574819, KB2830477 (KB2857650) and KB2913751 on our productions servers because of the connections problems (install process work fine, is the effects of these Windows Updates).

  • Problems getting Web server to connect with LDAP server.

    Hi,
    What edition of Win 2K are you using (Pro/Server/Ad Server). The problem could be your DNS settings only.Ensure which machine is your DNS Server is running,is it on NT? if so change it to win 2K server.
    Delete your LDAP machines A record from DNS server and add it again. This will solve your problem.

  • SunOne 5.2 LDAP server / Tivoli WebSEAL 5.1 problems

    Does anyone have experience installing Tivoli WebSEAL against the SunOne LDAP server?
    I've noticed that, upon attempting an install, I get an "unexpected error" from Tivoli.
    Also, the 7 ACIs that the install creates are destroyed when I restart the LDAP server, even though the install suffix "secAuthority=Default" remains.
    IBM Tech Support directed me to ask Sun, so I'm wondering if I have something set up wrong in the LDAP server, maybe the wrong plug-in enabled or something?

    Hi Samuel,
    I faced quite a smilar problem when I was installing Sunone Dir. server 5.2 on my solaris system, which already had 5.1 software.
    Had posted this problem in the list earlier.
    Discussion pointed that the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable needed to be set to point to the new libldap50.so directory(which us serverroot/lib).
    I copied all the *ldap50.so files in serverroot/lib to the my standard lib directory(/usr/lib) and it worked for me.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!

  • Getting problem while installing Sql Server 2012

    I am using Windows 8 in my system. I am trying to install Sql Server 2012 in my system .
    But i am getting following error in the final.
    The required MSI package 'D:\SQL Server 2012\x86\setup\sql_engine_core_shared_msi' doesn't exist.
    Please, help me quickly.

    Hi,
    You post same question 3 times. Please avoid this practice on Forum, I
    have merged the same thread  into this thread . Thanks for your understanding.
    In addition, as other post, you can copy the missing .msi file from the complete and unbroken installation media to your MSI package path. Then run as administrator again. And also check if your account has read and write permission for your installation
    media saving path. If the error still exists, you can check the SQL setup logs (Detail.txt and summary.txt) for analysis.
    There is similar issue about installing SQL Server failed due to miss the required MSI package.

    Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues.
    The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS on your Mac will override the router settings. Try either of these;
    OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Google Public DNS
    8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
