Install Leopard with boot camp on snow leopard.

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and have a piece of line 6 hardware that is not compatible. Updated drivers are taking forever to come out and I need to use this hardware. I'm wondering if it would be possible to use boot camp to install leopard from the installation disk included with my macbook so that I can boot to it to use the line 6 device.
Any help would be appreciated.

The easiest way is to use Disk Utility in the Utilities folder to create a 2 partition set up. Disk Utility will be able to do this without erasing your existing information.
- Select your volume the one with the disk size at the top
- Click on Partition
- Change the Volume Scheme to 2 partitions
- Answer any messages and such
I am sorry since I have mine partitioned with BootCamp for my Windows 7 partition, I am unable to describe all of the steps as BootCamp locks me out of performing the rest of the steps.

Installing windows with boot camp

i have a legal windows xp cd with sp2 in good condition and i am trying to install it on the 35gig partition i made with boot camp, however every time the installation gets to 53% during the copying files phase, it cannot copy a certain file and stops. i tried skipping the file in the installation to no avail. i am running out of ideas if anyone knows what might help.

Are you running Leopard or Tiger? This is posted in the Tiger forums. I believe the only version of Boot Camp for Tiger was a beta version for which the license has expired, although [this MacWorld article|http://www.macworld.com/article/61249/2007/11/bootcamp.html] says existing partitions made before the end of the license will continue to work.

Archive and install question with boot camp

Hi I have 10.5 and boot camp running right now on my mac. I would love to go back to 10.4 because everything that I use my computer for runs like we all know better. Do all I need to do is do an archive & install? will boot camp still work afterwards if I leave the boot camp partition alone? Could I then delete the (Previous System folder) it makes once everything is A O K ?

We all do not know this. All three of my Mac run better with Leopard.

You are in uncharted waters with BootCamp. I suggest making a complete block-by-block clone of your HD before degrading to Tiger. Most times, to install Tiger you have to do an erase and install. And you may need to use the Leopard DVD to erase the HD since Tiger may not understand the Leopard OS on the HD.
I have Tiger running on the bottom of my TM harddrive, in its own partition as a dual-boot system. Works OK, but it's nowhere near Leopard in performance. I rarely use it.

Problems installing Windows with Boot Camp

i am having this strange issue with boot camp. i have my windows 7 install dvd and go through all the standard boot camp procedure's, but once its finished partitioning the disk and restarts it just opens up to the apple logo on a grey screen, no spining logo, no status bar, nothing! ive left it for 6 hours on this screen 2-3 times now and nothing is happening. when i turn off and on again it just goes to a black screen telling me to install a bootable device and press any key. BUT THE INSTAL DISC IS IN!!! its driving me insane!
windows was burned to a dvd using disc aid and the .iso copied over fine and was verified and everything. the machine im trying to get this to run on is a 15 mbp 2.66 i7. the optical drive has been replaced with a 120gb ssd and there is a 1tb internal sitting in the hdd bay. i dont know if that has any relavance to this issue? i boot osx 10.7 (mountain lion) off the ssd and am trying to boot camp my hdd, but that couldent cause issues could it?
ive had a look around the other disscussions and fourums for 4 days now and i think i have seen nearly every bootcamp related youtube video there is! AND IT STILL DOSENT WORK!
if any one has ANY idea or sugesstion on how i can rectify this issue it would be greatly appriceated.

"You can't do both boot drive and storage drive on the same drive.
A boot drive requires (all data off first) it to be formatted GUID and OSX Extended Journaled, then OS X installed, then option key at boot to select that HD OS X boot drive, then BootCamp proceedure ran and install into the partition it creates on the HD."
THANKS AGAIN, i think im getting closer to a solution, i really dident think that simple old bootcamp could become so complicated!.
so i couldent (boot off the ssd as normal) and then create a seperate partition on the hdd of about 30gb, install osx on it, boot from that (with the optical bay back inside), create a thrid partition on the hdd via bootcamp then instal windows?
its just that erasing and reformating the hdd sounds a bit scary, its taken months of getting the permissions and fixing rouge ubd processes all right so everything works perfectly and seamlessly together with the ssd+hdd combo
"You can replace the data back into OS X on the HD and use that as extra storage, but your main use OS X user(s) needs to remain on the boot SSD.
To do this you need to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the OS X boot partition of the SSD to the blank/empty of data HD, this will copy all the Users accounts accuratly so you can access them from the SSD.
As you can see here, I can access the same user folders of my cloned partition from the original partition, no "-" minus signs on the folders as I'm the exact same user.
I am currently booted into Macintosh HD and accessing my same named user folder on the clone on Macintosh HD 2.
So basically OS X on HD will become your new "Storage Drive"
this is pretty much exactly how im set up at the moment! with the user account and applications on the SSD and libarys like iphoto, itunes etc are on the HDD and i symlinked some others like the downloads off to the hdd aswell.

Com port failed with boot camp and snow leopard - Please help!

Hi. I have been a very happy leopard and macbook user for the last couple of years. This week I upgraded to a macbook pro with OS X 10.6 snow leopard. I set up boot camp with Windows XP SP3as I have a couple of windows only applications that I need to use and they both need serial port. I had a Keyspan USA 19-QW serial adaptor that worked fine with Leopard and my old macbook. I installed the driver that came with the Keyspan adaptor. Now when I plug the adaptor into the USB slot it finds new hardware and says it is ready to use and the adaptor is listed in my ports as being on COM3 in device manager in windows but when I try to run the programs I get the message 'the selected port could not be opened. Either the port is in use by another application, or the port doesn't exist'. I'd be very grateful for any advice you can give me to solve this problem. Do I need to buy a new adaptor? Is this a settings or driver issue? I'm a user and not a techie person so please can you leave me easy step by step help. Many thanks. Karen

None. Windows is a separate purchase.

That refers to the Boot Camp drivers for Windows, not Windows itself.

Can I partition my external hard drive so that one partition is for Time Machine and the other is to install Windows with Boot Camp?

I have a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB USB 3.0 external hard drive that I currently use just for Time Machine backups. Is it possible for me to go into Disk Utility and create a new partition on the drive so that I may install Windows 7 via Boot Camp? Or since I am already using it for Time Machine do I have to keep it only for Time Machine?

You must install Boot Camp in your internal drive because Windows can't be installed in an external disk and Boot Camp can't do that

Cant install windows with boot camp

I had a new hard drive put in my moms macbook. I had the old drive cloned and then put on the larger hard drive. I want to install Windows in bootcamp, I did this before on the old hard drive with no problem. Now when I try and run bootcamp I get this message:

I went into disk utilities to see how the hard drive was formated and it appears to be extended (journaled):

It has to be formatted using GUID - your second shot shows "Apple Partition Map" (APM) instead which won't work.

Newbie Questions About Installing Windows with Boot Camp

The only reason I want to use Windows is to be able to download games from the internet that are not made for Mac only for PC and I have a few questions:
1. Doing all this installation will anything made for PC work?
2. I only have Windows XP will that work? And then do all the SP updates after it's installed?

Nearly anything. There are some Windows programs using hardware dongles that don't run.

You need a Windows XP CD with at least Service Pack 2 (SP2) incorporated.

Three things about this offer are, at least to me, very suspicious:

There always has to be a sticker, that one puts on the computer on which the Windows license is installed and a COA label as well.
"VOLUME LICENSE INCLUDED"
A volume license, from my understanding, was only sold to companys, who install Windows on a larger scale (hundreds of computers) and for that purpose are given only one license-key for all installations.
Usually this is known as a'corporate license'.
All in all, I would personally stay away from this offer. It simply doesn't sound legal to me.
4. After everything is installed do I have to use an anti-virus?
When running Windows a decent Anti-Virus software is a must.

Restart with the Option key held down, or use the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences, or the Startup Disk control panel in Windows.

Have him call AppleCare and get a new set. If his system goes south that's the only way he can do repairs, check his hardware or reinstall a new OS. Those disks are gold. (not really gold, just a metaphor).

Can I install Windows on my iMac 27, 3TB Fusion Drive, late-2012 with Boot Camp 5?

Hello. When I first opened the Boot Camp Assistant app, it said it could not work with the 3TB fusion drive. With the updated version of Boot Camp, the option to install Windows appeared. I tried to install Windows 8, but the loading bar stopped moving. I waited for hours, but it still did not move. I decided to quit the app, and re-open it, in order to try again. It crashed, and would not open. So I restarted my system and when I did that I noticed that I had about 1GB or so left of storage. This shocked me, because the disk was just suddenly filled for some reason. In hopes of fixing this I used an app called 'CleanMyMac' to try and recover the disk space. And as I thought the disk space returned to normal. However when I went to Disk Utility and clicked 'repair disk' it said this...
There is only 1 partition, so the Boot Camp process did fail.
I don't know whats wrong with my system though? I would like to install Windows, but I'm worried that I might recieve errors again. I have not got Apple Care, but I'm playing on buying it soon, due to it being almost a year since I bought the system.
Maybe I did something wrong when trying to install Windows with Boot Camp? I don't know, but if possible can someone please tell me if I can install Windows and if something is wrong with my system.

With 16GB, it will try to create 16GB hibernation file, 24GB page file, and need 20-30GB for the OS, plus room for temp, cache, applications, 9GB just temp to install SP1 update(s).
did you create 80GB or larger partition?
also, some macs with ssd + hard drive have issues, and of course you need Windows 7 64-bit home premium (Pro to use more).

VMware Fusion vs. Parallels (with Boot Camp) -- help please!

Hello. I have just reinstalled Mac OS X (Leopard) on my MacBook and am looking to install Windows XP SP2. I will be installing a Boot Camp partition -- I know that much -- but I also want to use Parallels or Fusions so that I have the option of running the Boot Camp partition within OS X. Somehow, over my years as a Mac user, I have acquired both of these applications (Fusion and Parallels), and I was wondering if anyone has any information on the differences between the two. Two questions:
1.) As I just mentioned, I'm just looking for any information on the differences between the two apps -- what features one offers that the the other doesn't -- why I might want to choose one over the other -- and so forth.
2.) Since I have both apps, would it be possible to have both installed at the same time? In other words, could I have both Fusion and Parallels installed on my computer, and then, when it comes time to open Windows, choose which app I want to open and use? (not sure there'd be any point to this, but just in theory, could it be done?)

Although I've never used Fusion before, I've installed Parallels with Boot Camp partition three or four times before on this computer, and it has always worked great for me, so I know I want to use Boot Camp. And as far as the application goes, sounds like I'll be using Parallels, mainly because it's what I'm used to. That Wikipedia link was exactly what I was looking for -- I had checked Wikipedia before I posted the topic here, but I didn't find that comparison page. Anyways, they look about the same (Parallels and Fusion, that is) for anything I'd be concerned with, but where there were any differences, they seemed to work in favor of Parallels (except for Linux-related features, in which Fusion seemed to have the upper hand, but I don't use Linux). No success with Boot Camp

I have been using VirtualBox with the original release of Windows 7. I thought that I would try out the Release candidate and install it with Boot Camp. I have an internal drive to dedicate to this. So here's what happens.
I have downloaded the Windows os file and burnt it to a DVD using Drive Utility at its lowest burn speed. I am pretty sure that this disk is ok as the windows installer starts up fine.
I created a windows partition on an empty internal drive which shows up on Drive Utility as an NTFS drive. I fire up the Boot Camp app and it asks me to insert the install disk for Windows. The installer starts up and I select the disk, making sure to select the correct one, then select the option to format it. The blue donut whirls around for a few seconds and then I get the following dialogue: "Windows cannot be installed on this drive because of error 0x80300024." I may not have the wording correct but the error code is right.
What does it mean? Can anyone give me a clue where to go from here. Thanks in anticipation.

I thought that the DVD I burnt might be faulty, so I tried using the known good one that I used with VirtualBox.
Same result, different error. I got as far as the same screen on the Windows installer. I clicked on the "Format" button, the little blue donut whizzed around for a few seconds again. No dialogue showed up and I thought, success. But when I clicked on the "Next" button, this text appeared with a yellow triangle to the left: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See setup log for details."
How can I see the setup log? Other than the DVD, the only other difference between the two attempts was the drive. With this second try, I chose to format the whole drive with Boot Camp, rather than split the drive between Mac & Windows.

Win7 won't install, black screen - boot camp

Hey, I have burned a win7 .iso file to a dvd and was going to install windows with boot camp. After the partition was done my iMac (24-inch, Early 2008) restarted and the screen went black with a white line blinking in the upper left corner.
Does any one know why it won't start the installation?
