Install memory modules on E205-S1904

How do you access the modules? They are no where to be found under the keyboard.

Look for a compartment on the bottom of the laptop.

  • Memory modules and hard drive not recognized

I removed and reinserted the factory installed Satellite L505D-LS5007 laptop hard drive and memory modules just as practice for installing a hard drive upgrade and an 8GB memory upgrade. The problem is obviously with the memory and not with the hard drive.
After the first practice try, one memory module was recognized. Also for a few seconds after the first practice try, I ran the PC with the battery installed, but no memory installed. I did not look in the User's Guide first to see that I should have removed the battery before removing the memory.
Now the System Indicator Lights for the HDD Activity and Memory Card Reader do not light up. The PC turns on and the display is solid black with no messages.
Before buying new memory modules, what possible ways might there be to get the PC to recognize the factory installed memory modules and hard drive again?

When troubleshooting, I always change one variable at a time. I would hate to miss a solution by being in a hurry. In this case, you may have damaged either the RAM or the RAM slot. I would stick with the Toshiba specifications for the RAM, making sure it is the correct size, speed and type recommended. I also recommend that when you replace the RAM that both modules be from the same manufacturer, size, and specification. Try one RAM module in one slot and then the other. And then try both RAM modules in both slots. After the testing you should be able to figure if this is a RAM problem or a RAM slot problem.
In the case of hard drives, the real test is whether or not the Bios sees the hard drive. If the Bios doesn't see the hard drive, it's not going to work. The Bios should see the hard drive whether or not the hard drive is partitioned, formatted or has data on it. My experience has been that many Toshiba laptops will work fine with larger capacity hard drives provided they are the same speed in RPMs, have the same interfacing connection and physically the same size.
Again, prior to doing any work on your computer, make sure that both the AC power has been disconnected and the battery has been removed. Be careful out there. A blown repair job by a non-Toshiba tech is NOT covered under warranty.

  • Memory module Installation error

    Hi HP team,
My notebook is HP Pavilion dv6-6169er  P.N. QC800EA. Memory is actually 6GB (2GB+4GB). Once I tried to install memory modules myself. The problem is that the system does not boot when I turn on the laptop. CAPS LOCk button blinks 3 times and the screen appears to be black.  When I insert only one memory card, laptop boots well. This is valid for any combination of RAMs. Both RAMs and both slots work well (I verified this by inserting every single RAM to single slot). However, the laptop does not boot only when there is BOTH memory modules inserted. Please, could you help me fix this and install  both RAMs to get full 6GB?

Are both memory sticks the same brand and type?

I've got two Mac Pros that give me this message. Every time I boot them up the Memory Slot Utility gives me the message that my memory modules are installed in the recommended slots.
This started after I installed an additional 8GB of RAM, bringing them up to 16GB. 8x2GB sticks.
I checked the login items and it's not there, so what else could I be missing?

I have this problem too on a Mac Pro Quad Early 2009.

What to do??? Purchase from Apple On-Line store 2x 2GB memory module. at appears iMac does not regognice the new memory.
Mac OS X asking for pass word, still running on Snow leopard.

You probably followed these steps to install the memory: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423
Since you have an Intel iMac, reset the SMC and PRAM:
    SMC:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If the iMac doesn't recognize the newly installed memory after doing that, reseat the memory and reboot.

  • H87M-P33 bios hangs (code 99) when both memory modules installed

    Hello everyone!

    RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 2x4GB kit 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 1.5V (CML8GX3M2A1600C9B)
    PSU: Corsair CX500
Besides power button, nothing else is connected.
I'm building a brand new system. It boots with either module from the memory kit in either slot, but bios hangs (code 99) when BOTH memory modules are installed.
I tried to update bios to v2.1, but still won't boot with both modules installed.
Then I looked on the global site and found v2.2 bios for this board, which states "- Improved memory compatibility." and released on 2013-08-19, which is fairly recently. I tried to download it from download site (US, EU, CHN) but all sites give 404 error (file not found) to me.

It boots fine with a single stick in either slot. I tried flashing the attached beta bios via UEFI interface (choose the option with ME) and it updated. It still won't work if both slots are filled, works fine if either of dimm slots is filled with either stick from the kit.
ADD: I also tried putting whole RAM kit in my main machine and it works, so RAM isn't faulty.
Use a single RAM module, boot up, access the BIOS and be sure XMP is disabled.
Set the timings to 9-9-9-24, the voltage to 1.55-1.60V and the speed to 1333MHz.
Save the settings, shut down, insert the 2nd RAM module and see if it works.

  • Tecra M9 PTM91E - Can I install 3G modem and Turbo memory module?

    Hi guys,
I have this notebook, but I want install aditional mini express card, like a 3G modem and Intel Turbo memory module, but I dont have free connector.
I bought two mini express conectors and solder on mainboard. But cards dont working in notebook. I must somthing enable in BIOS or solder aditional component? Second question is, I want web cam, I have one crom old notebok which is connected across USB. Have this motherboard any free USB conector?
Sry for my English. THX guys

    hi Fab30,
i wonder how you know where to solder the components on the mainboard, some kind of magic i suppose...
if you wanna use your "self-soldered" items make sure that the chipset is able to handle it....
otherwise use a 3g-modem on usb...
the intel turbo memory... as far as i know this is a special chip on the mainboard which stores data to exalerate your os...
if you wanna use these features you have some options:
    - redesign mainboard to your need, some reverse engineering have to be done too
    - buy a notebook which has the desired features in it
in my point of view buying a new one will be easier....

  • How Many Memory Modules (1 or 2) Come Pre-Installed in HP Envy Touchsmart m7-j120dx?

I know my HP Envy Touchsmart m7-j120dx came preinstalled with 8GB of RAM.  I purchased it last year from Best Buy.  Haven't taken the back off of the laptop just yet and it's at home while I'm at work, but wanted to see if anyone can verify *how* the standard 8GB of RAM is in there at present?  Two 4GB memory modules or a single 8GB memory module?
I'm trying to place an order online this afternoon to upgrade the laptop to 16GB of RAM and I'd like to know if I need to order two 8GB memory modules or just a single 8GB memory module, depending on exactly how many memory modules are in the laptop at present to make the existing 8GB of RAM I'm running.
Thanks if anyone knows the answer to this.

    Okay, one more question...
The memory in my laptop came pre-stalled with 8GB of it, with the characteristics of 1600Mhz and DDR3L PC3-12800.
Replacement memory (16GB) recommended by Crucial.com for my system has 1866Mhz instead of 1600Mhz, and is DDR3L PC3-14900.
What was recommended has of course slightly higher specs of the memory than what's currently running in my system for an additional $23 over just replacing the memory with 16GB of RAM having the identical 1600Mhz and DDR3L PC3-12800 specs.
Can my HP Envy TouchSmart m7-j120dx actually do anything as far as increased performance in going with the 1866Mhz and DDR3L PC3-14900 memory or would my laptop continue to "dumb the memory down" to 1600Mhz and DDR3L PC3-12800 specs and not be able to utilize the enhanced specs of 1866Mhz and DDR3L PC3-14900?
Just trying to spend my money wisely.  Thanks for any additional clarification.

i have a mac mini mid 2011, this device have; 2,3GHz and 2 Gb Memmory.I want to upgrade the memory and i need the list of supported memory modules. i am from turkey.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 Mac mini supports 8 GB of memory officially, but you can install up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can use 2, 4 and 8 GB modules. You can buy more RAM from OWC or Crucial.
If you are looking for memory at a local shop, make sure you buy 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Is it right to mix sizes of memory modules in a mac mini 2012? for example 2Gb 8Gb?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can do that without any problem, always that the total amount of memory is less than the maximum memory your Mac mini supports. A Late 2012 Mac mini supports 16 GB of memory, and you can find in this site the steps to install more memory > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US#1

  • Changing memory modules in Satellite M30X-165

The Notebook has two memory modules with 512 MB each module. I have received a used 1 GB module.
Can I remove one of the 512 MB modules and install the 1 GB module to get total 1,5 GB RAM or need both modules the same memory size?

According notebook specification you can upgrade your machine up to 2GB of RAM so you can use one 1GB RAM and one module with 512MB. Important is that you use 100% compatible memory modules.
Just for your info: compatible PC2700 1GB memory module has part number PA3313U-1M1G.
Make upgrade, test it and post some feedback.

  • Matching Memory Modules?

I recently bought a new iMac G5 with a 1GB memory module pre-installed. I have added a 1GB memory module and I am wondering if there is any way for me to tell whether the memory is matched, that is, operating at a 128-bit data path. I read about matching memory here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300082 . I am mainly wondering because after installing the module I have not noticed any improvement in speed or performance. The additional module that I bought is by Crucial (part # CT12864Z40B.M16FD). The factory installed module is by Micron (part # MT16VDDT12864AG-40BD1). The new module that I received looked physically different from the original one - it is more narrow and the chips are smaller and square (vs. the rectangular chips on the originally installed module) but all of the technical specifications listed for it were the same as for the one originally installed in my system. So I donÕt know if that would make them not a Òmatching pair.Ó In the system profiler it does say that there is a total system memory of 2GB but I canÕt find any information as to whether the data path is 64-bit or 128-bit. How can I find this out?
Thanks very much for any help,
    Wade

    Hello All,
I ordered a second 1 Gig DIMM for my iMac G5 (rev. B) on Monday. My original module was a PQI brand 1 Gig with 16 chips (8 on each side).
The new one that arrived, is a generic assembled with Motorolla chips and also has 16 chips (8 on each side).
I spoke with the guy on the phone at Other World Computing (the place I purchased the original module from and the new module).
I explained to him that I wanted to end-up with a "matched" set that would provide the 128-BIT communication.
He told me that he would look up my original order, and get me a module that would match.
I mentioned to him that I had heard that the modules needed to be identical if they were to be recognized as a matched set and be utilized with the 128-BIT path.
He told me that you don't really need to go that far. He said that they just need to be the same size (capacity) and speed.
My modules do appear to be "matched" according to the Terminal Script, and the "testgbusG5us" utility I mentioned previously (see other post). So, they are reportedly communicating at the 128-BIT rate.
In my system Profiler, the original PQI module is listed as:
    PC3200U-30330
The new generic module is listed as:
    PC3200U-30440
So, they appear to not be 100% identical, but they are recognized at a "matched" set.
I haven't been able to find a translation on the Internet for the numbers after the dash. But, the limited information I could find indicates that the first number "3" in the 30xx0 number is the CAS rating.
So, it appears as though they are the same size and speed.
Anyone know what the other numbers mean?
Anyway, I thought I would post what I found for the benefit of others who are thinking about buying another module.
