Install moutain lion with no osx existing OS

How to do I install Moutain lion on a computer that has no OSX.  I am going to purchase from apple store but since they do not sell media or usb anymore how does one get installed.   Recovery does not work because the last OS on the apple was probably snow lion.  Thoughts...   I think I am missing something. Can I download on another apple put on media and boot from it

Do you know if this download can be used on more than one mac.  It it tied to user that downloaded it?  Thinking from a small office situation.  If all my computer are licensed for moutain lion individually is there any harm in using the DVD over and over.

I have just made a clean instalation of Lion, with a bootable disk, and I planned to restore my files (music, photos, etc.), The installation run perfectly, but Lion doesn't find my backup files. So, I'm about to loose all of my iTunes library, work documents (I'm a lawyer!!), my kid's photos.... How can I restore my files?? Help!!

Since you seem to be using a new disk for Lion, Time Machine will consider previous backups to be for a "different" computer.  Try doing a control-click or click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".  This should allow Time Machine to see the previous backups.
In the worst case you should be able to open those Time Machine backups and copy your documents from there to your home folder.

It would be easier to just fix whatever is making your machine slow.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.

How to install mountain lion with a different apple ID?

More information would be helpful. If you are going to use a different Apple ID, you will need to buy Mountain Lion again. If you have a computer that has Mountain Lion installed, but Mountain Lion was purchased with a different Apple ID you must use the original Apple ID to download Mountain Lion.

  • Unable to install Moutain Lion even though I have the appropriate specs

    Hi all
I am trying to download ML on to my lappy.
    the specs I have are:
    macBook
    13-inc mid 2007
Processor 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo
    Memory 3GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics intel GMA 950 64 MB
    Software MAC OS X Lion 10.4.7 (11e53)
I tried to get Moutain lion to install from the app store and it says its not compatable with my laptop - I checked the specs and from what I can see they are ok.
Can someone see what Im (hopefully) missing?? thanks!

Lion was only available as a Mac App Store download or as a USB Thumb Drive from Apple. Lion may still be available through the Mac App Store for your Mac.
If you have an Apple Retail Store near by, you could always book a Genius Bar appointment and see if they can install Lion for you if you can't download it from the Mac App Store.
Don't be too gutted, you have a MacBook it may not run Moutain Lion, but it's still a very capable machine which will hopefully serve you well for many years to come.

  • How How can i install Mountain Lion with faulty firewire ports??

Basically the firewire ports are fried on my MBP 3.1  (2007). My mac used to take hang on blue screen and take 10 mins to boot but I solved this problem by installing an ssd and deleting the following kext file...
    /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireFamily.kext
My MBP now boots in under 20 seconds so if anybody is having the same issue then there is the resolotion..
Anyway these are the steps I have taken but failed to properly install ML.
Dowloaded Mountain Lion at least 3 times from the App store to make sure the download wasn't corrupted.
I even tried making a Lion Bootdisk so I can install Mountain Lion on a USB drive (Install ESD.dmg).
I have even tried installing Lion first thinking I would take it one version at a time but gets stuck on boot screen too.
I even changed my hard drive to a new blank SSD drive to see any difference.
Each time I install Mountain Lion or Lion, everything is good until the installer has to restart the laptop.
Laptop gets stuck at the grey boot screen with the Apple logo and the loading circle. Nothing ever happens after.
I always had to use/boot to the Snow Leopard CD so I can restart the laptop back to the Snow Leopard OS and then update to 10.6.8.
I am guessing it is the ML dmg reinstalling the above file ( /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireFamily.kext ) which is leading to the same issue because of the faulty firewire ports.
Is there anyway I can resolve this because its doing my head in and Snow Leopard is old and doesnt support newer software that I would like to use.
Any help would be kindly appreciated. Thanks

    Just some thoughts.
I presume you already partitioned the new SSD drive as GUID?
Is there anything on the new drive at all yet, or anything that isn't already backed up? If not, you could try erasing the drive and then installing OS X from the bootable flash drive installer you made.
Ive tried that and yes it is GUID. Im going to get grey hairs soon and Im not even 30 lol .... yet
I am not going to buy a new logic board as its just not logical (sorry for the pun) I got the mac for free and I want to spend as little money as possible. Im running out of ideas though

  • Black screen on MacBook Pro Retina Display after installing Moutain Lion. Need Help!

My macbook pro (retina) screen went black after I installed Mountain Lion.
I got a HDMI cable to another monitor and the image worked nicely there.
But i cant get it back on my MacBook Pro! I tried taking out the HDMI cable, restarting, searching on settings configs..
    What should I do?
Are there any drivers i should install to get image back on my MacBook Pro Retina Display?
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks in advance for all the help.

That helped me finding other people with similar problems.
But there is a major difference!
-They have a black screen after they login.
-My screen is black NOW! And I'm only using my BRAND NEW rmbp with the HDMI cable to my TV!
This isnt good at all and I would like to solve it asap..
I tried reinstalling Mountain Lion, taking out the hdmi cable and rebooting many times.
    Until now, nothing!
Is my screen broken or maybe my video card has some problems?
I hope not! I just traveled from the US to Brazil and I dont want to search for an Apple Store here.
Any tips or ideas are welcome, thank you.

  • Can't install Moutain Lion?

Wnen I try to install Mountain Lion it will let me do initial install but will not reboot to vomplet install. The compter is fozen at the grey screen with an apple and a whirling gear. Coputer is Mac Mini (2010) with 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and Snow Leopard.
Tried PRAM, reformat. clean install. Makes no difference to the problem.

Even though you reformatted, make sure the startup disk ok.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click Verify Disk.
If Disk Utility reports errors, follow the instructions for repairing the startup disk here.
Also, Apple strongly recommends using a broadband high speed internet connection because at some point after Mountain Lion is installed, if you need to reformat, restore, or repair the startup disk, that is all done via the internet using OS X: About OS X Recovery
The Mountain Lion download itself is about a 4GB file.

  • Clean install of Lion with Final Cut Express

I use Final Cut Express and Aperture 3 as my main pro software.
Recently when I wiped my boot drive and reinstalled Snow Leopard I found I had to install Final Cut Express first before doing the software
combi update and then installing the rest of my software.
If I now do a clean install of Lion from a backup I have already made from the download last week, is this going to be possible to continue using
FCE4 rather than installing Snow Leopard first and then Lion on top off.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Printing problem on Moutain Lion with Cannon MF4360-4340

I installed Mountain Lion and now I am unable to print from my Canon MF4360-4340. Whenever I try to print this message pops up:Failed to read module.  Re-install.: 20600. What do I do?

If you upgraded from a previous version of OS X to Mtn Lion and had an older version of the Canon UFR2 driver, then this older version of driver is most likely imcompatible with 10.8.
So start by removing the printer from Print & Scan and then opening Finder and navigating to HD > Library > Printers > Canon and trashing the UFR2 folder, and the CUPSCMFP folder if present. You will also need to navigate to HD > Library > LaunchAgents and trash the file "jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist" and the file "jp.co.canon.CUPSCMFP.BG.plist" if present.
With all these files removed, restart the Mac and then empty the Trash. Then install the latest UFR2 v2.41 driver and add the printer in Print & Scan. This should get you printing again.

  • I Restored My Imac, But I Can't Install Moutain Lion As It Says I Haven't Purchased Lion. This Is Because I Went From Snow Leopard Straight To Mountain Lion. PLEASE HELP

So my mac is pretty much useless becuase i can't install mountain lion after a restore of my mac.
I have an imac late 2008 which i bought second hand. It only had Leopard OS X. So I bought the Snow Leopard OS X discs and installed them. I then bought Mounain Lion Straight from the app store and downloaded that.
However I recently decided to restore it for extra space. So i restored it fine and then attempted to reinstall Mountain Lion. Then a message popped up saying that 'This Apple ID has not purchased Lion' meaning that i can't now install Mountain Lion.
I then inserted the Snow Leopard disc and then it would not give me the option to install it on my hard drive and there was a little yellow caution sign on the picture of the hard drive.
I am stumped for ideas now and REALLY NEED SOME HELP
    Thanks,
    Fin

If you installed Leopard that is why you can't install Mt Lion. The system Must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion or Mt Lion.
If you only erased the Macintosh HD partition then you left the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition in tact on that system. At startup hold down the Command+r keys to boot to the Recovery HD Partition. From there erase the Macintosh HD partition and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. It should then download Mt Lion and ask you for the Apple ID that was used to purchase Mt Lion.
The Reason Snow Leopard might not be installing is because of the Recovery HD partition. To get rid of that you must First Re-Partition the drive As One Partition. Then install Leopard then SL (Or Snow Leopard from the start) and then update it to 10.6.8. Once that is done you should be able to log on to the Mac App Store and Re-Download Mt Lion.
