Install new copy of lion
What happens when I "Install a new copy of Lion" on my iMac? Does it erase the drive, or just reinstall the OS on the Mac?
Well, I suppose it depends on if you already had Lion and the recovery parition and what you are trying to do. Or, if you mean you did not have Lion, and, now want Lion.
If you merely are trying to reinstall it and keep all the stuff on the drive, as opposed to fixing some specific problem, then, just run the installer. It won't delete any of your data. How to run it depends on if you aghve a recovery partition or not, if you have a copy of Lion you downloaded, etc.
If you are trying to start over and want to start with a fresh drive, same thing, except, first, run disk utility from the installer to erase the drive. Presuming you stored off your data first of course!
If you are merely upgrading to Lion, just install it. It won't delete your data unless you tell it you want to by erasing the drive.
Of course, then there's time machine if you had it, and all sorts of variations. But, I presume you know all that.

I bought Max OS X 10.7 Lion from the App Store. However, I have found Lion to be quite sluggish on my 4+ year old iMac. As such I have reverted back to Snow Leopard.
My question, can I install my copy of Lion on my wife's iMac?
Thanks in advance.I believe I have the most RAM it can accept, 4GB. Apart from an external Time Machine/backup drive, I have another external drive with software downloads and media from friends - both USB 2 drives.
Ninety-nine percent of the things I use are stored on the built-in iMac drive.
I suspect some of the new Lion features are slowing it down (such as the ability to save versions of documents and the ability to save an application's state). Performance was fine previously on Snow Leopard and earlier.
For the record my iMac was bought in November 2007; specs are:
Mac OS X 10.6.8
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
iMac drive: 316GB (135GB available)

Tried to check on updates for CS6 64 bit - Received message saying application manager may be damaged - download and install new copy - when I try this I receive message ERROR 404 I have a PC - any help would be gratefully received - thanks - William

if that fails, uninstall ps, clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and reinstall. then use the manual updates. -
After computer would not boot and could not be repaired, I reformatted the HDD, reinstalled Vista plus all service packs and updates, recovered files from Microsoft backup and installed new copy of Firefox 3.6. Firefox will not run.
I have deleted all old M0zilla profile folders and reinstalled Firefox again to no avail.
After intallation was completed, the automatic startup just placed a small box on the screen "Import wiz". This just sat there with no activity. After I closed this box, none of the Firefox start buttons would open the program -- just the blue rotating icon for about 2 seconds then nothing.Hi,

How to use Recovery DVD to install new copy of OS and CUSTOM PARTITIONS?

I have problem with start appropriate recovery function from created Thoshiba Recovery DVD.
I burn two DVD using Toshiba Media Recovery Creator witch was preinstalled on my computer. Now I want to use it to install new copy of Windows 7 OS on my laptop. BUT I would not want to clear entire HDD. I want to format only C: partition, and leave data on my D: partition. Also I want to define C: partition size.
When I insert DVD and boot form it, some app start but display info that all partition will be removed. I can not choose another option.

Installing Second Copy of Lion on VM
I just purchased a Mac mini with Lion installed and I can't seem to simply download a second copy from the App Store. I'd like to take advantage of the new OS license terms and install a second copy of Lion in a VM to serve as a test bed for my software development work. Does anybody know how I can get a free second copy of Lion to install on my VM?

Installed New Version of Lion... Where is iPhoto??
Long story short I had a lot of startup issues with my 4 Year old Macbook Pro, I whiped the drive, formatted, and instead of re-installing from my time machine I installed a fresh new version of Lion so I could leave all my old issues behind. Everything loaded fine, I installed iWork from disk, etc... However iPhoto is gone and does not show in my app store purchases to re-download. If I am not mistaked iPhoto CAME on the computer when i bought it. Is there any way to get it back since I am previous owner?? Or do I have to re-purchase the app :-(

That is probably so. It is probably still on the DVDs that shipped in the box with your new Mac. But you did not install that version, you wiped the drive and installed Lion.
So your choices are:
a) Install the old version that included iPhoto, and upgrade to 10.6.8, and re-install Lion on top of it.
b) pay the price and buy a new copy of iPhoto, which will be iPhoto '11.
IF you will be annoyed that the tool palettes no longer "float", but are fixed on the right side of the screen, DO NOT buy the new version. -
I have recently download new OS Mountain lion on my macbook (white late 2010 model). I had snow leopard before.
On iphoto, when i was viewing my photos in a single-photo view (double clicking on a photo), i was unable to go to the next photo/previous photo using my trackpad. Only way i could do this was by pressing arrow buttons on my key board.
If i remember correctly, i was able to do this by using 3 fingers (sliding left to right or sliding right to left) on snow leopard.
I can navigate back and foward on my internet browser using two fingers. And yes, i have tried using my two fingers on iphoto but nothing happens.
I have checked my trackpad setting and everything seems to be right.
Any ideas how i could fix this?

This works here - but I'm on iPhoto 11. IIRC it worked on 09 too though.

My Daughter is currently upgrading her MacBook Pro to OS X Lion. During the upgrade the system rebooted and then stops at the OS X Utilites menu. I have installed this same upgrade on My MacBook Pro and the family iMAC without issue. Did the upgrade encounter a problem? The only options are to Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall Mac OS X, Get help, or Disk Utility.
I'm not sure how recient the backup is on the TimeMachine for her system and she is concered that she may loose a lot of updates she has made to iTunes and iPhoto.
Please help.I have 8 GB of RAM, but would that even matter during install? Performance once installed and running sure, but I questiong whether the installer would demand that much more, or why it would affect mountain lion when restoring from a time machine backup.

How can I get Font Book to install new fonts with Lion OS X without crashing?
Font Book is unresponsive using Lion 10.7.1. When I click on Font Book icon in the dock, I get "Application not Responding". Can't install any new fonts. Anyone else having this issue?
I can get to the open Font Book window if I click on Mission Control to get there, but once there I see spinning wheel, which does not stop.
Any suggestions on how to get Font Book to work well on Lion?Quick update... I removed all non System fonts from ~/Library/Fonts and deleted com.apple.fontbook.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.
Now FontBook doesn't crash when launched.
I think I'm going to use a 3rd party application to manage all non Apple/System fonts. Hopefully that will avoid any future problems. -
Not sure what to do. I've tried a system restore on my computer after the update in hopes of undoing the problem, that didn't work. I've tried to install, the new version of itunes for over two days now and I get to the point where it says "starting services" and it almost get's done and then it gives me that message " Service apple mobile device (apple mobile device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privledges to start system services." Then it gives me three options to click on "abort", "retry" or "ignore". I've tried to retry over and over and it does no good, I just get the same message. I've tried ignore and the one time it did finish installing itunes, it didn't work, I got error messages telling me that it failed to download properly and I needed to delete the program and download it again. I thought maybe it had something to do with my ipod not being pluged into the computer so I pluged that it and it's still giving me the same message. I just don't know what to do. I'm very frustrated and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I'm completely out of ideas.

Slow Boot Times after installing new SSD and Lion
Can anyone please help interpret why I'm having slow boot times? I have copied my console printout during the boot and it seems to be doing a repetitive action while booting.

First, backup your system.
Reboot your system, press and hold the Command-R keys at the boot chime to enter the Recovery HD. From there you can use Disk Utilities to erase your Macintosh HD and then reinstall Lion. You will need an internet connection and I can't remember if you'll be prompted for your Apple ID and password prior to Lion downloading. -
How do i make abackup copy of Lion with a UBS2?
I am thinking about downloading Lion, i do not have a external harddrive. So i need to make a backup copy. I have a brand new unused Kingston USB. Once i have copied the software to the USB, where do I install it from? The copy on my USB? Or the original on my desktop? If you can offer any advice on this procedure, I would be grateful because i hardly ever download, and i've never copied anything of this importance before.
When you download Lion it will put the installer in your Applications folder and present you with an 'install Lion window'. Before clicking on the install screen copy the Lion installer to the USB drive (USB drive needs to have at least 4gb of available space). Eject the USB stick and continue with the installation. Once the Lion install is finished the installer in the applications folder will disappear so you are wise to copy it first.
Edit: As a side note, from your description it sounds as though you don't have an external back-up of all the important data on your Mac. I'd really recommend getting an external and at least keep a Time Machine backup.
Legend has it that there are two types of disk drive - one that has failed and one that hasn't failed yet. Having a backup in place will save you a world of pain. I know this for a fact .
