Install OEL 6.4 on 3TB harddisk

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to install fresh OEL 6.4 (64 bit) over my new 3 TB HDD, (though in BIOS it's showing detected and seeing 3000GB, enabled all required options like onchip SATA Type set it to SATA, EFI CD/DVD Boot  Option to EFI) but unable install it as getting stuck on 'waiting for hardware to initialize'
I can see starting screen with Oracle Logo and getting 5 options as below,
1) Install or upgrade an existing system
2) Install system with basic video driver
3) Rescue Installed system
4) Boot from local drive
5) Memory test
If I choose 1st option, then DVD loads bootable files but gets stuck on 'waiting for hardware to initialize' and then blank screen with blinking cursor.
I would like to know how to use parted (as it's more than 2.2 TB) command when HDD is new ? or what is other way out to install OEL on 3TB HDD ?
(I've tried on my laptop, and installation gets start without any issue)
yours help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Manish Nashikkar

The problem is probably your video graphics adapter. I suggest the following:
While the cursor is on option 1 hit the <tab> key then add the parameter " nomodeset"  and press <enter> to start the system.
If the above does not work, try option 2.
Note that OEL has changed to Oracle Linux or short OL and is designed for server hardware. Support for Desktop or Laptop computers is limited and requires depends on open source and hardware vendor.

  • Problem installing OEL 6.1

I downloaded the 32 bit 6.1 iso and the boot iso. Confirmed the download with md5. The Dow pad was to a Winows 7 laptop. I extracted the zips with the Windows extract tool, and burned the files to cd and DVD with Roxio.
I inserted the boot cd into a Vista desktop with the plan of overwriting Vista with OEL 6.1. The install failed the media check. It said some files were corrupted. I burned another cd with the same result. I think the download was good because of md5 check. It is hard to believe I had 2 bad burns.
Is the Windows extract tool good for the extract? Any ideas?

I have successfully installed OEL 6.1. I used my Boot CD, and ignored the Media Test error messages. I put the DVD ISO on a thumb drive. The installation process on the Boot CD asked where the DVD image was, I gave it the thumb ID, and the install went forward successfully. I did down load and use 7zip, but the extract had the same Media Test failure as before. My equipment is getting old, and maybe my BIOS needs updating. The CD and DVD drives are running before the operating system kicked in. Thanks for the suggestions. I think I lucked into the solution this time.

  • After installing OEL (Free download) Need additional pluggings

I jus installed OEL (Free download) on my laptop for experimental purposes
Now I need additional "pluggings", or software, in order to compile other
applications. Where can I download additional "pluggings" for OEL??

As Paul said CDs should help and it's the best source. On the other hand, you may use the following website to find some RPMs (software packages):
    http://freshrpms.net/
You can also try to download and use packages designed for RHEL.
Although OEL is compatible with RHEL, and RHEL could use most packages of Fedora, if you don't use RPM packages designed for your distro, you would have some package dependency problems.

  • Installing OEL on pavilion dv7 4054CA failing with kernel panic

I am trying to install OEL 4.8 (5.5 gives errors too but not as details as 4.8 )on pavilion dv7 4054CA I7 4-core/8 thread laptop but the installation terminates shortly with kernel panic. I gathered the below errors from the screen:
    kernel panic - not syncing

    acpi-0352
    acpi-1134
    acpi-0691 : *** Error: acpi_ev_ype_dispatch
It looks like a CPU issue. My laptop is brand new and works fine and I want to install Linux on it.
So any one can help on this?
    Thanks.

Oracle Linux, like all Linux for Enterprise systems, was developed for server hardware and will most likely have trouble to fully support laptops or desktop PC systems. Even if you get the system installed, you may run into trouble with proper support for laptop power management, touchpad, video and wireless support.
A good alternative to run Oracle Linux, or Enterprise Linux on a Laptop is Oracle Virtualbox. It allows you to install multiple common operating systems without the need to repartition your harddrive or jeopardize your primary operating system. Virtualbox is free. More info can be found here http://www.virtualbox.org. If you would like to use Linux as your primary OS or dual-boot, better consider a desktop Linux system like Fedora, Ubuntu or SUSE office desktop - you will be much happier with it. Please note that Oracle Express will easily install and support desktop Linux, but Oracle RDBMS does only support Enterprise Linux versions and will require special attention to get installed on Linux desktops.
In order to start OEL from your computer and work-around the issue you are experiencing, you might try to specify boot parameters, such as acpi=ht or acpi=off

You will not be able to maintain your current partitions.
Perhaps this will allow you to better understand what needs to be done  http://www.mpspartners.com/2013/10/how-to-convert-windows-7-on-mbrbios-to-gptuefi/
This is assuming that your BIOS is fully UEFI compliant.
Yes, I know you have win8 so perhaps you wish to read this document http://www.google.com/url?url=http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/performance-maintenance/30201d1382725326-latest-win-8-1-iso-breaks-system-image-functionality-uefiguide-win-8.docx&rct=j&frm=1&q=&esrc=s&sa=U&ei=K8vMU7KeK-yO7Qb2-ICQDA&ved=0CBoQFjAB&sig2=3jymYselLjon44ZbELy_xQ&usg=AFQjCNH6wemwvr48C642jdRZAo0bKfy0yw
but i think this article is about for a primary harddisk? how if the situation is different, a drive not for booting but only for data? do i must process like the article said?

Help! accidentally install OSX Tiger into my backup harddisk!!
i lost all my backup files, work, my life! i have 2 HDD and one is suppose to be installed onto and the other one is my backup hdd..
what happened is i selected onto the wrong hard-disk...
is there anything i can do to recover back files that i installed over osx?
    any suggestion much appreciated

Hi Ma'e, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Installing OS X should not overwrite your files unless you chose "erase and install". If you chose "Archive and install" look for a folder on the top level of your hard drive called "Previous System".
If you did an "erase and install", If there is any chance of recovery at all your best bet is Prosoft Data Rescue. There is a free trial to see if it can recover what you need. But don't do another process on that drive until you've downloaded and run it. Also, a service that has been recommended but I cannot personally endorse is DriveSavers.

  • Archboot install cd don't detect my harddisk [solved]

I'm trying to install arch64 on my new computer, but are having some problems. The default install cd doesn't detect my harddisk, since the sata2 chipset used isn't supported in the vanilla kernel. So I've build a new one with a kernel with the mm-patchset, and edited the sata-hook to include all of the i2c-drivers. The appropiate drivers (i2c_viapro and i2c_core) is now automaticly loaded, but no device nodes are created
I fear that the arch-initscript fails to create the nodes for some reason...
This is the hooks I got on the install-cd:
    HOOKS="arch-ftp-install arch-bootmessage arch-motd arch-memtest arch-base arch-udev ide scsi sata arch-net arch-raid arch-lvm2 arch-filesystems arch-keymap"
If you have any tips or tricks how to get my harddisk detected, please let me know.

I found a solution to the problem: I just needed to include the sata_via driver on the install, and then it worked! So now i can install!!
I also needed to edit the hook setup while installing, otherwise when installing kernel the driver wasent included when trying to boot after install... A bit tricky, but possible

  • How to install preinstalled Premiere Elements on new harddisk

About 1 year ago I bought a new Sony VAIO SVE1712C5E in the Sony web shop with a preinstalled version of Adobe Premiere Elements 10. Now I want to install a bigger harddisk. How can I install this Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on the new harddisk? And where do I find my license key for it?

    o.linke
Please try the following possible solution
    The serial number part
    1. Go to the Adobe web site http://www.adobe.com, sign in with your Adobe ID and Password, go to the Search field at the top right of that web page and type in My Products.
    2. Follow the My Products link to find your Adobe Premiere Elements 10 product. If you find it, chick on Adobe Premiere Elements 10 to reveal its serial number.
    The software part
    1. Go to the following web site and download and install the tryout of Premiere Elements 10. During installation insert your purchased serial number.
Be sure to read and carry out carefully the web page's Note: Very Important Instructions" and its click "here" before all else in order to avoid Access Denied.
Photoshop Elements 10 Direct Download Links: Free Trials, Premiere | ProDesignTools
Pre-installed programs do not always come with serial numbers. This type of matter needs to be resolved at the time of purchase of the computer.
You need both installation files as well as the purchased serial number for those files to move forward. Adobe cannot help you on this type of situation.
Your last resort is Sony who probably will not be able to help you unless you have a sales agreement stating your rights.
We will be watching for further developments. I am hoping that the route that I have suggested works.

  • Having a problem installing OEL 6 64Bit using VirtualBox

I tried posting on the Oracle VM forum but noone replied. Trying here.
    Anyone have any ideas?
Just installed VirtualBox 4.2 on my 64bit laptop
I then created a new Virtual Machine with a 60Gbyte harddrive
I then used the Settings to assign the OEL 6 .iso file to the Virtual Machine's CD/DVD
I then click the Start button
I get the startup screens for OEL6 so I know the CD/DVD is seen by the Virtual Machine
I click Install or Upgrade existing system
A bunch of stuff is uncompressed as I'm used to seeing
Eventually I get the Test Media screen, I use the Skip button (the first time I tried this, I did verify the .iso so I know it's good)
I click through the Language and Keyboard setting screens
Then I get the Installation Method screen. I click Local CD/DVD as I assume the .iso is in the Virtual Machine's virtual CD/DVD
When I click the OK button, I get the message The Oracle Linux Server disk was not found in any of our CDROM drives.
I'm perplexed. Any help is appreciated.

Are you using the Boot CD to install the software? It will prompt for the installation media because it does not contain the installation packages. I suggest to check what you are using. To boot and install the system from one and the same DVD you need the standard 6.3 Installation DVD or iso image (V33411-01). When you test the CD/DVD media it will be ejected and you need to restart.

    That work.

  • Install OEL 5.0 as Guset OS in VM Virtual BOX

    Hi,
I am using WIN XP SP3 on my laptop(intel core i3 32 bit,2 GB RAM).
I have installed Oracle VM Virtual Box for XP (version 4.0.6).There i want to use OEL as my guest OS and install Oracle 11g R2.
I have never used any VM s/w prior to that, hence i don not have any idea on this.
    * I have configured OEL VM,now my question is do i need the original OEL 5.0 ISO images to be downloaded from e-delivery to insatll OEL in VM virtual box.And also do i need the 11g R2 binaries for OEL 5 to insatll it within VM OEL???
Please refer me some doc on step by step installation of OEL as guest in VM vietual box.i am a newbie to this.I dont have any idea on this. *
    Thanks.

    Hi,
if you don't have any idea google is you best friend.
Ask the question you posted here to google, and you will find a lot of good sites with information on this.
However, there is also a good guide, to setup a RAC in Virtualbox, which might answer most of your questions:
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR2RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVirtualBox.php
(Even if you don't intend to install a RAC the steps, till you install the Oracle Software, are the same...).
BTW: Found this via. google ;)
    Regards
    Sebastian

  • CS6 does not install on Mac - wrong format of harddisk - any remedy?

    Hi there,
I wanted to install CS6 on my MacBook Pro but the installation failed as the format of the harddisk supports Capital/Small letters - "case sensitive".
    CS6 declined to install.
Any other way to solve this other than reformatting the drive?

  • Glibc error when installing OEL 5.8 packages for 10g install

Hi, I have the following errors occurring when installing the pre-requisite packages for a 10g install. I'm following the instructions on
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2InstallationOnRHEL5.php
file /usr/lib/gconv/libISOIR165.so from install of glibc-2.5-81.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.5-81.i686
file /usr/lib/gconv/libJIS.so from install of glibc-2.5-81.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.5-81.i686
file /usr/lib/gconv/libJISX0213.so from install of glibc-2.5-81.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.5-81.i686
file /usr/lib/gconv/libKSC.so from install of glibc-2.5-81.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.5-81.i686
file /usr/libexec/getconf/POSIX_V6_ILP32_OFF32 from install of glibc-2.5-81.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.5-81.i686
file /usr/libexec/getconf/POSIX_V6_ILP32_OFFBIG from install of glibc-2.5-81.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.5-81.i686
file /usr/sbin/iconvconfig from install of glibc-2.5-81.i386 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.5-81.i686
    [root@oravm1 Server]# rpm -Uvh glibc-2.5-81.i86.rpm
I'm not sure what to do as the 10g install complains that the glibc package is not installed as a requirement for the db software install.

yum list glibcLoaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with ULN.
    ULN support will be disabled.
    Installed Packages
    glibc.i686 2.5-81.el5_8.1 installed
    Available Packages
    glibc.i386 2.5-81.el5_8.1 el5_latest
Should I really have the i686 version installed?
The 5.8 install includes the i686 version and the i386 version. Perhaps only the i386 version should have been installed. Am I right? If so should I remove the i686 version and how?
yum install glibcLoaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with ULN.
    ULN support will be disabled.
    Setting up Install Process
Package glibc-2.5-81.el5_8.1.i686 already installed and latest version
    Nothing to do
    [root@oravm1 ~]#
    Also.....
The install warned that the swap was not lareg enough, I recall something like 2.7GB when I have actually made it 2GB.
And the other things was ....
    Checking for shmmax=536870912; found shmmax=33554432
The instructions I followed say nothing of setting this so high.

  • Macbook pro 13" won't install OS X 10.4 after harddisk erased and dvd will not eject!

After backing up the machine, I took what I thought was the correct installation disk and booted from the CD/DVD.  I erased the hard disk using the Disk Utility.  Then I tried to reboot to install the original operating system.  After several hours I received the message:  Cannot install Mac OS X on this machine.  The computer was running 10.4.3 before I erased it.  I don't understand why the restore to factory settings didn't work.  Now I have another problem.  The CD/DVD does not eject.  Without an operating system on the hard drive, it automatically boots from the CD/DVD and will not eject the boot disk!
What do I do?  How do I get the CD/DVD out?  How do I find a good disk

Hello, hold the mouse button down while booting up to eject it.
The original Disc would be gray.
