Install of iLife 11 leaves iPhoto 09

Tried deleting 09 apps from Finder and then installed iLife 11 disc. It left iPhoto and says it won't fun on Mavericks (even if it did, I want all the new apps!).
I tried to delete it again and I did a custom install of just iPhoto 11 (it had a - next to, but I changed to a check mark and deselected the rest).
Still only find iPhoto 09 on my iMac.
Any help would be much appreciated!

You can update 9.1 to 9.4.3 which will run on Mavericks. Or get 9.5.1 free from the App Store as long as 9.1 is on the HD for the App Store to see.

iTunes in Mac OS X Tiger is outdated. Open  > Software Update to install the latest iTunes version for Tiger.
If you need iTunes 10.7 or a newer version, you have to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. First, check that your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 If it is, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After buying Snow Leopard, make a backup of your data, insert the DVD and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest Snow Leopard version. Finally, run Software Update again to install iTunes 11.0.4. If you want to install iTunes 10.7 instead, download it from the Apple website > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576

Newly installed ilife 6 - iphoto not recognized

Hello all,
I was having problems with my iphoto 4 not uploading my pictures so decided to upgrade my ilife software to 6. Everything installed fine except for iPhoto, I click the icon to open and nothing happens and now the icon changed to the paper / letter A icon. I looked at the system requirements and I believe I'm okay. Anyone have any ideas or solutions for me?

This looks like a faulty install.
Drag the iPhoto application from your Applications Folder to the trash
then go to HD/Library/Receipts and delete any pkg file with iPhoto in the name.
Then re-install iPhoto - you can do a custom install, you don't have to re-install all the other parts of iLife.
Don't forget to repair permissions.

Had to Re-install OSX Now no Iphoto

So interesting problem. I have had to re-install OS X due a huge performance loss? Anyways, I am now up and running with garage band and Imovie both installed and working. Only now I have no Iphoto?? I have also installed PSE 8 but I'd still like iphoto? I have not found it on my install disc even under additional components? Any thoughts?

Did you reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came on? The system install does not include iPhoto or the other iLife applications. If iPhoto came with the computer it will take a second install and would be on another disk looking something like this:

Unless, of course, you purchased iLife 09 to get iPhoto 09. Then you'll need to use the iLife 09 install disk.

What installed iPhoto there in the first place? Was it the same version of iPhoto that came with the Mac? Was iLife added at a later time from a Mac Box Set? You can selectively install iPhoto, and then apply the appropriate iLife update without taking it to the shop, after removing the application, or recover it from your backup.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

You have to install and RUN the iPhoto Library updater - it is installed in the utilities folder of your applications folder - double click on it to RUN it and then launch iPhoto to complete the upgrade

I also started having problems with iPhoto after installing Yosemite. Some of the Event collections lost the picture and just has a grey square in its place. When I click on the Event, it shows a white dotted lined square for each picture and if I click on the picture, it shows an exclamation mark.
Check, if you also are having a folder "Old Masters" inside the iPhoto Library package, as described by Muhamad Abdulkadir.
Ctrl-click (or right-click) your iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder , then select "Show Package Contents". If you are seeing a folder "Old Masters", copy this folder out of the library. Look inside - are the original image files of the problematic photos inside?

Make a back up now.
Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
Then go on to Option 2

The App Store does not let me buy iPhoto from scratch nor update it. I used the original Applications Install DVD to re-install iPhoto, and the icon appeared but the app could not be used because iPhoto 2.1 is not compatible with the Mac operating system OS X (10.9.2)? I thried to update manually through apple support, and a notification of unauthorized licence did not let it happen. What is this? What happened with my iPhoto? What can I do to solve this and safe my photos? I'm willing to pay for it, but even the app store say that it can't becuase it was suppousely bought through another account? Please help!

Not launching is probablay not a software issue - it is probably a data issue
No - iPhoto 2 version 2.1 is not compatible with Mavericks - or pretty much anything else - you need to purchase iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x from the App store

I always recommend backing up the iPhoto Library file under your Pictures folder first.
You can try removing the iPhoto Preference file in your User Library folder. Close iPhoto. If you are using Snow Leopard (10.6) click on Go in the Finder menu bar. Click on Library. If you are now on Lion (10.7), you'll have to hold Option key while clicking Go to see the Library selection. Once here, find the Preferences folder. In here, look for the following:
com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Move this file to the desktop. Start iPhoto and see what happens. If it is working, you can delete the file you moved to the desktop. This should not delete any photos, but will reset iPhoto as if it's the first time you are opening it (so your preferences you set may need to be set back).
If this doesn't work, let me know.
